- Hey Everyone,
Welcome back to the RattleKings channel 🐍👑 I filmed this first week in January, it was such a cold morning, it actually made me contemplate why i chose bricklaying for a profession... But i'm no quitter and i cracked on.
So here is a short video of me topping off a gable. 💅🏻

With regard brick piece or just a lump of pug, my bricky of old always said that the build is stronger by using the two as it is so easy to knock off a lump of pug as opposed to separating a brick from the mix in a bond! In a gable end with imposed wind load and fire stability requirements, the build in and around the ladder area is far better the way you’ve done it here! Quality still matters, you’ve been taught well, learnt well, so continue to practice your knowledge well too! Bravo young lady! Cheers...PS hope you’ve got your Damart thermals on!?
Great stuff keep it up love what you do 👍
She is a brick layer but still I thought characteristically girly. That is good. Be what/who you are. 👍
Cracking jobkeep up the good work 👍
Great stuff 💪
Good job. Tough in that kind of weather but you got it done
Seems to know what she’s doing eh? Great work...Go Girl!!

Excelente trabajo 👏 👍 💪 👌
nice work
just curious why you're laying bricks when its -6? +2 and rising is standard, also not seeing any wall ties in that gable? nice brkwrk tho, shame it maybe taken down
hey, it was -3 and real feel -6. it was rising and didn't lay straight away. It's not a site, it was a private job. There was wall ties in the gable you just need to look a little harder. It's strapped in too. It wont be coming down. Appreciate all your comments but please don't give back handed compliments.
I thought exactly the same thing.
scott never ..there are wall ties on the first course she laid if you pause at 1:03 on the right hand side you can clearly see one of them but there should have been more 6 course above which I can't see any.As for the laying in -2 as she state she didn't start laying straight away.....and maybe she used cement antifreeze.Bulk bags can be covered up at night to prevent sand from freezing and if possible when using bags I keep them inside overnight,I have on very rare occasions used boiling water to defrost frozen sand if the temperature has frozen it overnight but it's above 2 in the morning and it's still frozen just to get a start. It's the same in the afternoon not laying too late in the day as it can freeze when you go home so if possible best to cover the work up.
Can I ask what compo mix you are using, looks like lime.
It looks cold; we had -14 here last week in Canada
Darcie it looks like the handle on your keystone forged trowel hasn’t been pushed on properly that s why I assume you have the tape wrapped round it . Just put the trowel on a wall with the handle facing up and give it a few taps of a rubber mallet and it will set the handle fully home . That’s what I did with my one .
Awesome work! I'm a bugger for leaving my profile holes😂 is that a 150mm cavity 😨
Yes 150m cavity! The customer wanted it to be really well insulated. Saves on energy in the long run 😁
@@rattlekings
With the 150mm cavity do you use longer wall ties, also what cavity insulation used. Is it mixed fibers sheep wool? not the usual foil back foam insulation.
Be interesting if you went into different bonds and when you apply each one.
Nice tidy work👍
I have genuine questions that's unrelated to brick laying I was just curious about it! When you go on big buildings site is there a female toilet do you have to use the mens? I know on smaller sites the have portaloos but when it's site toilets what do you do? I know it's random sorry I just wandered as I never seen a woman's toilet on sites? Maybe that summit that needs to change?
With smaller sites there is a portaloo, and its a shared toilet. But on bigger sites they have males and females toilets. I have been on sites with no toilets before! Nightmare.
Rattle Kings Shit!
@@rattlekings oh ok fair enough that's not to bad I guess I hate using portaloos and why to they always turn up to empty them when it breaktime and everyone is eating lol
Great job hun
Is there any need to use brick ties when doing these gables?
@@martin2466 It was a genuine question as I clearly hadn’t seen, hence why I asked the question…
I think I would just fill the gable end holes with "muck", unless there is a regulation that forbids this? They are out of sight and it must be cheaper and quicker than messing about with bricks, even if they are offcuts.
Its such a hassle filling in the little bits. I’m not sure if its a regulation or not. If i had it my way i’d just fill them with mortar too 😄
I thought that was funny when you threw the level down, I do believe that’s fine bam.
Love the videos just remember to wear safety glasses next time you use a hammer and chisel. You only have one pair of eyes. Stay safe!
You’re cool as fuck bro
They might think you are the "pancrack", with the camera.
Laying bricks in minus 6 centigrade? That's a no no
Anything less than 2 degrees and rising is a no no, minus 6 is just mental. That mortar will not have set correctly even if covered up, let's just hope the brick was dry at least.
it was -6 real feel, -3 actual temp. i didn't start laying straight away. What the boss says goes. If he tells me to do it in the cold, i do it in the cold. And to be honest its not the first time i've laid in freezing weather. my dad literally built a fire under the cement mixer once to melt the ice lumps from the sand. No houses have fallen down.
What boss says its ok to lay in -2 ?, Shocking !!!. Standard is +2 to start knocking up muck, we wait til its + 3 and cover up with hessian at night. If its -6 , i aint coming in.
Good morning, 🌞,working working girls , 👏👏.👌 🏠, very good job s, bricklayers, thanks you, miss, me same jobs England, ,👏👍Kompany MDS, groundwork, ?

Hi i am a female on my 40s wanting to get into bricklaying - just started my level 1 course in evenings at college. How easy is it to get initial jobs once qualified ?
Try and jump in with a gang, experience is everything, and you really learn on site. Also, keep yourself fit, particularly your core, a good core is vital to keep your back from injury.
Just go and talk to people working on jobs it's. Stay fit like the other commenter said and keep thick skin and pay close attention. You'll meet many ass' on the jobsite but just let your work do the talking. How is it going. Do you get into the trade?
