One of the things that scares us most, is getting stuck in our comfort zone. Part of the reason we decided to take this journey into the wilderness was to force ourselves out of our comfort levels, and this week we really put ourselves to the test. We did that by trekking through the snow for 24 hours to find a tent that gets hot, hence its very apropos name, the "hot tent." We're going to spend the night in freezing -25 degree weather in the rugged backwoods of Canada. And for that to work, we need a place to lay down, shelter from the elements, heat to avoid hypothermia, food, water and a place to go to the bathroom. Thankfully we had Tal and Mads to keep us company (if you missed it, watch how they surprised us here: • There’s Someone In Our... ). The tent may seem simple in its construction: canvas walls, zipper front door, sleeping pads on the roof, a cast iron stove that will keep us alive, hardwood floors, and a small pantry with the essentials (are playing cards and popcorn essential? We think so)! As anyone who's ever camped before knows, having a raised floor can make a world of difference from the elements and potential critters in the woods. And since we had our cameras set up, it turns out that we weren't alone (if our short brought you here, watch until the end)! After a quick testosterone boost by chopping wood, we were ready to make our vegetable stew dinner and settle in for the night. The key to keeping a hot tent, well, hot at night is to keep lots of kindling around to quickly feed the fire when it starts to go out. We use birch when we can because it's super light, easy to peel, and basically paper in its most natural form. We were running low on water, but the great thing about being in the snow with a cast iron stove, is that you can always boil what's around you to have more to drink! But just as we were falling asleep, we got awoken by an uninvited guest--a Eurasian ermine, also known as a stoat, which is a type of short-tailed weasel! While they look cute, they can hunt prey up to 10 times their size and have vicious teeth. And like us, this ermine had friends in the woods because we ended up seeing at least 3 more! It was hard to fall back asleep knowing they were in the tent with us, but thankfully we made it through the night and are stronger for the wear. What's something you've done recently to step outside your comfort zone? Comment below!

I am on the path to regain a healthier life! Yesterday I worked out 1.5 hrs and that’s twice as long as I usually do. I just keep thinking 🤔 try to be consistent daily exercise and eat as clean as possible. My teen is a Vegan 🌱 and it’s helped me try new recipes. Adventure down under my house 200 feet down under the cliffs … scary but beautiful… Rock Climbers Paradise. Daniel Boone National Forest. Third Top Climbing Area in the World…Near Red River Gorge AKA Climbing The Red. You Go Girl ♥️👍🌈 It is amazing down there. Unbelievable! Out of my comfort zone because so I couldn’t go all the way. I did go a ways alone but like I said scary Bears and wild creatures down in the forest. They gave the rock walls (they is the forest service) back to the land owners after the Rock Climbing coalition’s took it too court , so now I own some beautiful rock climbing walls.
It’s like going down into little red riding hoods forest, you think the big bad wolf is behind every tree. Or was that the three little pigs who faced the wolf? Anyway It was out of my comfort zone.❌

Stepping out of your comfort zone is normally called an adventure. Without adventure, you would be bored out of your mind. It is embracing the unknown and being willing to experience it. Look at all the things you had to learn to do in building the cabin that were out of your comfort zones. This is what makes your channel so loved. It is an extra special adventure when you get to share it with great friends like Tal and Mads not to mention the rest of the pack. Thanks for the adventures. May you share many more too come.

Being an avid animal lover, I have to say that my favorite part of the video was watching those beautiful little ermines. When I lived in northern MN we had them too...dark brown during the summer months, turning white with a black tip on the tail in winter. I often saw them when working outside in my garage. I had one come in one day searching for whatever and I didn't even bother him . He walked up and perched on my boot, looked up at me and then went on his merry way. We also had one sneak his way into Home Depot when I worked there and he created quite the stir for some of the employees. But I still remember looking down my nail aisle as he poke his head out from between a couple boxes: him almost laughing at the hub bub he was creating.

Jaz, I almost commented last time you talked about eating raw potatoes!! I’ve eaten them since I was a kid and I’m 58 now. Every time my Boston Irish Catholic mother would make mashed potatoes -which was every Sunday in case you didn’t know!!-she’d give me some pieces of raw potato.
And now on the few times a year I make them, I always eat a few. Raw, white potatoes are particularly delicious. Crunchy with a naturally good flavor. I eat them straight up plain cuz they have a naturally salty flavor to my tastebuds when I eat them raw.
Glad to have found another raw potato gal. My husband looks at me like I’m inhuman when I do it!! 😂 I love them!! 🥔🥔❤️❤️

@@Vanwives Thank you for the warning. I have heard the same info over the years -and similar things about not eating raw cookie dough or cake batter. Not to dismiss the wisdom of being very careful about what we put in our bodies, but I do think the safety issue comes up when you ingest larger quantities than we do with a few raw potato bites or a few finger licks of dough. That being said, probably better to be safe than sorry. We can still be tatertwins in spirit! Sorry that was the best I could come up with! Stay warm & well-nourished! 😘😘

These hot tents... can be huge, hot, and kitted as much or as little as you want.
you can go as small as 8x10 with them or right up to 16x24... (seriously, there are cabins smaller then that). And when you get into the 384 square foot area... you can actually break them up into "rooms", including a full bathroom.
now kitting them out, with things like propane hot water on demand heaters... you can make a bathroom with composting or cassette toilets, sink, shower, and even bathtub.
They can be double or even tripple walled" where you have an inner liner, outer canvas, and fly. This provides great insulation, plus, the frames are often heavy wood or steel. their snow loading is able to take really bad snow and ice events.
Wood stove for these are often "massive" they are not the little tent camp stoves people use, these things are BIG, ranging from 60 to 85 pounds +... with 8-12 hour burn times, putting out massive amounts of heat so you are safe even in -40 temps.
