After years of escaping the winter and going to warmer weather, we've finally embraced the changing seasons. And with spring around the corner and many renovations later, we've almost made it through… we can't wait! Living through -20 degree weather has made us appreciate the sun and not take seasons for granted. We find ourselves basking in the sun every chance we get, even 10 minutes at a time with a hot cup of espresso in our hands! The sun shining through our windows and our new walls up makes us feel so happy and grateful just to be alive and able to share this journey with you! And speaking of, this week is about bringing you along with us as we take a break by taking off our work pants and put on our workout shorts. BUT just as we're getting hopeful that spring might finally be here, we got visited by an uninvited guest: Old Man Winter! Yes, he popped in for a surprise visit and if we're honest, he may be overstaying his welcome a bit. How do you tell winter to leave, while still being polite? It's almost April! But despite our objections, we still made the most of the storm: snow angels, sauna and jumping on a snow-covered trampoline?! All said, we have a lot to be grateful for. We've gotten to be so good at plumbing, chopping wood, making pizza and now we have arsenic-free water! Not getting poisoned is our favorite pastime! But most of all, we're grateful for each other and you! Did you guess what we were building at the start of the video? Comment below!

Our Journey! How did we get here?
In the winter of 2019 we moved in to our self built van full time to begin living, working and travelling Canada. We quickly fell in love with chasing our dreams of adventuring off the beaten path, living off grid and being self sustaining. We drove our van thousands of miles through various countries-Canada, USA, Mexico & Guatemala. All of which we documented here on our channel, be sure to check that out! After many years on the open road we found ourselves 15 acres of remote woods on the East Coast of Canada where we are building a homestead and renovating our fully off the grid cabin. We are diving into this chapter of our lives in no experience, we're so happy we can bring you all along as we learn to do it all with our own two hands. We are taking a break this week after having project tunnel vision (drywalling lol). Slowing down and taking care of ourselves was a good decision with SPRING around the corner… so many big projects we’re looking forward to!! A lot of you say how we inspire you to pick up a project or get something done but we hope we can also inspire you to slow down too 💛 Also cannot believe we had arsenic in our water but excited to get it tested and show you the results. How do you tell winter to leave, while still being polite? 🤣
As a fellow Canadian, I have to admit I’ve had a few choice words at winter this month. Clearly, winter doesn’t give a damn!

I took a break this weekend after two months of working on my online business. Big time tunnel vision (editing and creating books). I was working every single day, all day long...that my work became garbage. I needed to step away from it. Walks, cooking, cleaning. No planks for me, ( I can only last about 25 seconds, man I loathe those things!) I agree, walking away, refreshing and renewing ones mindset only makes you a better worker. I'm on a break.

I just realized they sell parts for Gorilla carts. The front frame piece on mine is rusting and it only costs $15 for a new one. Make sure you get a dump cart but don't go so big that you can't lift it to dump it when it's full. Enjoy your break! 👋

I lived in New Mexico back in the late 60’s. A friend of mine had an older brother. That bro had purchased an old ranch house which had been neglected for years. The two brothers & their Dad & Uncles had spent years refurbishing & expanding the house. I only saw it a few years after completion.
After watching you two work so hard on your place with the power tools, generators, sauna, solar and improving the water….it makes me reflect on the changes in technology & new ideas such as the Internet that just didn’t exist all those decades ago….

A little woodworking advice ladies. When you screw it the side of plywood, eventually it will fall apart . The screws are not being screwed into solid wood. The screws will pull out in time . When doing that , use angle iron brackets that you will screw into the face of the plywood.

Isn't it amazing to have your own water source? I have water from a mountain spring behind my house. Clear, cold and safe water straight from bedrock in to my fauset. You had arsenic and iron, i have calcium and copper that needs filtering out. Done easily and it taste so good. Spring has sprung, and April weather is around the corner, wich means, all weather at the same time and you need to hold on to your hat. Sun is shining, make coffee, get out and get blasted with hail, sleet and snow, and then back sun sun again within 5 minutes ;) April for yah! Thank you as always for bringing the energy, the positive vibe, and the spirit high. Love you guys! 💛

Ladies, you bring a smile to face with every video you do. You are great examples of how everyone should be. Not taking life overly serious, except when need arises. You know how to take a break and recharge when you need and know it's time to step away for just a little bit. Take it from this sixty year old dog, you have a great start on knowing when to break and have some fun and relax, it took me a lot longer to realize it. But now I just enjoy life and not worry about what the day or next day may bring. You two have a great love for each other and can share lot's of laughter daily with each other, and you work great together on projects. Think Spring, it's closer than we think.

As I want to use a wood stove, just like yours, I wonder how long it takes to heat it at the proper temperature (around 90 celsius, as a proper finnish sauna should be). You need some well deserved decompression time. Let your body and mind rest and repair and let your heart and soul feed off the amazement of what you have accomplished already. Leading a life of self sufficiency is no easy task but the feeling at the end of the day , knowing you can do it is an extremely fulfilling one. I'm a builder over here on PEI and know all to well about needing decompression time after a hard day's work. My family is so happy to find your channel and you have inspired us to turn our little Bayside cottage into our.full time home. We are not as off grid as you but want to harness the sun , the wind and our love to make a more simpler life for us.

I love that you got to enjoy at least 1 day of early spring. The look on your faces was so sad the next morning, but you quickly bounced back and made play time out of it. Rolling in the snow with bella and izzy and Crystal bouncing on the trapoline just laughing and having fun. It was so nice to see you sit back and enjoy some good food. After your hard day, it was nice to see you enjoy the sauna. And Jazmyn jumping in the snow; holy crap girl. That was a nice exercise program you got going there. Like Jazmayn, I would have cried too if you broke one of those jars. Maybe something less breakable next time. I loved Jazmyn and bella having fun with the banana. The runway you "built" for Chrystal was a great idea to help get her back in her running shape. Anyway, I love you all and look forward to more fun videos.

I surely hope you guys planted tons of bulbs last year all over your property. If not maybe this year you can plant tons of them all over even along for favorite walking paths so you'll see pops of color come spring, summer and fall depending on types of bulbs you plant. Don't forget those ever blooming lillies. They all come back year after year and spread. The deers and other animals normally won't eat them. But you can always add mint and lilac which will be a natural deteriorate since they don't like the smell

@Vanwives there is still time never to late to start. Once you get the bug it never ends. I know I have over 400 different types of bulbs, 60 different types of lillies and a rainbow amount of roses, mums that you plant once and they come back year after year and brighten your day and I normally don't have to do anything except prune the roses early spring time so bushes will produce tones of new branches and roses. Love my pride roses and black roses

You need to open your eyes when getting morning sun first thing. Don’t look at the sun, don’t wear sun glasses or try and get it through a window but your eyes need to take in the sun to help with your circadian rhythms and health.

Hey just an idea, that wooden box you built, if you're sitting on it, you might want to reinforce the back, with plywood if only half the back, because of stress from sitting it, or put triangle corners in the corners
