Thanks so much … one would think that there should be some good reasons the higher the rank of the game. Trying to communicate that is the hard part … especially after talking about so many fun games.
@@The-Game-Garage I can relate - it's why I never review or attempt top 10s. I often know I like something, I don't often know how to break it down into exacting reasons why. That said, I enjoy watching others try, and found this (and the editing) very entertaining :)
Woke up this morning at 4am, checked my email quick and I was so excited to see an alert for a new video. (BTW) of nearly 100 channels I subscribe to you guys are the only one I have alerts for.) Again NEVER a disappointment. As I was watching the video KNOWING I was going to hear more about Crossroads at the end I had a thought. You guys need a Patreon so I can give you money so you have more time to work on getting out that Crossroads to everyone of us so excited for it. Heck use it to hire people to help or someone to mow your lawns so you have more time to work on the release. PLEASE TAKE MY MONEY! Another great video guys, Thanks for being Awesome!
You are so kind! Crossroads is still in the slow lane but at least it is moving. Worked on rule book this last week. Patreon is a good thought … I know just a little bit about it. Obviously we are not doing this to get money … it really is just for fun and it has to work around our other more important parts of life. I am hoping for the first quarter in 2023 for something concrete on crossroads. We will see. In the mean time your comment was encouraging and lets us know that content is far more important than frequency. Thank you!
Hey Sam and Bodie, thanks for raising awareness around lifeboat. After watching one of your other videos, I was able to reach out to the game designer through his company‘s website. He responded very quickly and told me that he has kept a personal stock of lifeboat along with all the expansions. Then he sent me the entire game! I don’t know how many copies he has but I recommend people try reaching out to him!
He has been fun to work with. He tells me he has a few things in the works and I would support him in his gaming efforts. We gave me some homework that I need to get done. I think he is a one man show which makes his customer service even more impressive.
Thanks a bunch! We don’t produce a lot but we have fun and enjoy what we do put together. We are hoping for cooler days in the desert so that we can get back to the garage … no AC … toasty warm!
Every now and then it is a choice between playing board games and making videos about playing board games. Obviously playing them has won out lately but hopefully we can make a few more videos in the next few months.
What a great and unique top 10! You both have a truly great passion for the hobby that is your own. Your opinions, game picks and discussions are very interesting and different than a lot of other channels out there. I look forward to watching every video you create! I hope you find a lot of fun and success in this RUclips venture
Well put … this RUclips venture. You have obviously picked up that we play board games for fun and then as an afterthought decided to do a couple of videos. Thank you for your kind comments.
Great list! I like when a top 10 has a variety of types of games so I'm happy with Fake Artist Goes to NY and Bohnanza being on the list (even though I personally don't prefer either of those games)! It's also really neat that your favorite game is a game you made. That'd be great if you made a PnP version of it for other people. I love all your game deluxification too! Awesome retheme of Neue Heimat and I haven't played Lifeboat but your deluxe copy looks so amazing! (also, "fun little game" while holding this huge deluxe box 😂)
This is awesome! I just found your channel and have three young kids. I’m inspired to create many memories similar to how you’ve done so with your family! Amazing video!
thank you … it is surprising even today how much fun board games have been for our family. Our next video comes out in a day or two and you will see more fun :). We are continuing to work on the DIY Crossroads game that has been so much fun for us. We are working on the rule book now. This Christmas, Bodie and the three son-in-laws all had a good time playing games! The hobby has been fun!
I really do want to make that video because of all the really good games that we didn’t get to talk about. I wonder how much overlap we would have. We just played a new one for me last night. won’t make my top 30 but I wonder if it would make Bodie’s top 30. I was surprised how different we were.
Thanks! We are glad you found us. Always interesting to me how people find our channel. We plan to make a few more videos in the near future. Thanks for your kind words.
Really enjoyed watching you two discuss your favs. The only game I have on the list is Robinson Crusoe... Haven't yet played it, because it's so intimidating! Thanks for sharing Crossroads. Very cool that you designed your own game!
King's Dilemma is Awesome! You definitely need the right group to fully enjoy the gameplay and story, but that's true of any game. I'm only at the beginning of your video, but now I'm interested in you 11-30 as well.
So true on King’s Dilemma … we are now half way through and I am impressed by how well they have been able to keep us all close … no one running away with it. Someday we will make a sequel and add a few more games … there are so many good ones.
This is the first time I watch one of your videos and you are very friendly. On the other hand on your 20 games presented here I have only one in common but not on my top 10 lol : Memoir 44 (because my top #1 is from the same author but better for me)! The world of games is becoming so monstrous that cross-overs are becoming increasingly rare between friends. We are all moving away from each other like galaxies at the speed of light lol! My top 10: 1) Command & Colors Napoleonics 2) Terraforming Mars 3) Wingspan 4) Star Wars Rebellion 5) Zombicide 6) Eclipse 2d Down 7) Beyond the Sun 8) Heat 9) 1775 10) Jamaica Plus a special price for the vintage game that started the new age of board games in my opinion: Catane!
It does feel like there are more games than I keep track of and thus the reason it’s fun to see and hear what others have found and like … your comment reminded me of how much I enjoyed galaxy trucker … another one that might make my 11-30.
Can't wait to get Moonrakers: Titan from their kickstarter that ended yesterday. Glad to see the original Moonrakers on this list. Good suggestions all around.
I’m (Sam) hoping that we can do a video of the expansions. They look wonderful! We have played one. We were going to try to get something done to help with he kickstarter but they landed during our busy summer season. Solid expansions and quite a bit of variety within them. Moonrakers is always welcome at my table :)
I would love a rule book of crossroads printed out like my copy of gaslands. I think Osprey games published that one and several others like it where you can make your own components. Like you, I love to craft my own stuff so gaslands was a hit for me and making my own miniature town and finding figures to fit it would be super fun. I currently have no need for miniature buildings but I always love a reason to have a need. My brother Garret has a copy of lifeboat that we either bought him or he got out at camp years ago that we’ve played a few times but not recently. After the first time we played I built him a boat that the cards sit in for a touch of thematics. I love adding thematic touches to games like that.
So funny that you would mention that. This past week we worked not he table of contents and I used a gaslands rule book as part of my reference material to see how they organized their rule book. Would love to see pics of any way that you have deluxified board games. It is almost a hobby all by itself … always love to have reason for the need … totally agree!
Are you asking about reimplement? I’m not sure if he did another one. I think Desert Island is similar but I’m not sure. I’m not sure I’m answering what your question was??? Let me know if your are confused??
I think it is best played the first time with experienced players. Bodie taught me to start with and the rule book does a good job of easing you into the complexities of the game. It feels like the first few plays are just learning lots of new things but that really give the game some depth.
And … really looking forward to Tabletopia this year. Several new games. The Make it Mercantile will be ready for the crafting crew and I’m looking forward to seeing how many show up … not that we really need more than a table full :)
Honestly guys... you should meet with some of the developers of TTS, armello, BGA, or other digital companies and pitch this as a video board game. I sounds like a really good type of turn based strategy, and would translate really really well as a video game. Not unlike Xcom.
That would be a hoot … I’m guessing with our schedule they will have to find us … which I doubt will ever happen … but I think you have a good point and one I have never really even thought about but video would simplify lots of things but also the physical presence of the pieces is part of the appeal and fun. I can see advantages to both with accessibility being the biggest for video.

The effort to be strongest at the end of the game means you have to bluff your way into second or third place and hope someone else is taking the heat.
