    Here is what you'll need!
    Blueberry Curd Tart
    Servings: 8
    INGREDIENTS
    Tart Shell
    1 cup walnuts
    1 cup all-purpose flour
    ½ cup powdered sugar
    ½ teaspoon cinnamon
    ½ teaspoon salt
    8 tablespoons (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
    Blueberry Curd
    1½ cups blueberries
    1 tablespoon water
    2 large eggs
    2 large egg yolks
    ¾ cup granulated sugar
    ½ cup lemon juice
    2 teaspoons cornstarch
    3 tablespoons unsalted butter, cubed
    3 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
    8 kiwis, skins removed
    PREPARATION
    In the bowl of a food processor, add the walnuts, and pulse until coarsely ground.
    Add the flour, sugar, cinnamon, and salt, and pulse until finely ground.
    Add the butter and pulse until the mixture comes together and holds when compressed.
    Press the mixture into a 9-inch round tart pan. Prick the bottom of the crust with a fork. Freeze for 1 hour.
    Preheat the oven to 350˚F (180˚F).
    Bake for 20-25 minutes.
    Add the blueberries and water to a medium saucepan and bring to a boil over high heat.
    Reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer until most of the blueberries have burst, about 5 minutes.
    Strain the blueberry mixture through a fine-mesh sieve into a small bowl.
    Add the blueberry juice, eggs, egg yolks, sugar, lemon juice, and cornstarch to a medium saucepan over low heat, whisking constantly.
    Once the mixture is warmed through, add the butter, 1 tablespoon at a time, whisking until melted and incorporated.
    Continue whisking until the curd begins to thicken, 5-8 minutes.
    Strain the curd through a fine-mesh sieve into a bowl. Whisk in the olive oil.
    Pour the blueberry curd into the par baked tart shell, and bake for 15 minutes.
    Chill the tart in the refrigerator overnight.
    Slice the kiwis into desired shapes and arrange on top of the chilled tart.
    Slice and enjoy!

    Two-Colored Woven Pie
    Servings: 8
    INGREDIENTS
    Beet Compound Butter
    1 beet, stem and leaves removed
    18 tablespoons (2¼ sticks) unsalted butter, softened
    Beet-Colored Dough
    2 cups flour
    2 tablespoons sugar
    ½ teaspoon salt
    6-8 tablespoons beet juice, ice cold
    Plain Dough
    1 cup flour
    1 tablespoon sugar
    ¼ teaspoon salt
    10 tablespoons (1¼ sticks) unsalted butter, cubed, cold
    3-4 tablespoons water, ice cold
    Filling
    3½ cups blueberries
    2 teaspoons lemon juice
    ¾ cup sugar
    ½ teaspoon salt
    3 tablespoons tapioca starch
    1 large egg, beaten
    1 teaspoon water
    2 tablespoons turbinado sugar
    PREPARATION
    Preheat the oven to 400˚F (200˚C).
    Wrap the beet in tin foil and place on a baking sheet.
    Roast for 1 hour, until fork-tender.
    Wearing gloves, peel the beet skin.
    Add the beet to the bowl of a food processor and pulse until smooth.
    In a medium bowl, add 3 tablespoons of the beet puree to the butter and use a spatula to mix until evenly colored.
    Transfer the beet compound butter to plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or until very cold.
    Make the Beet-Colored Dough: in the bowl of a food processor, add the flour, sugar, and salt, and pulse 2-3 times.
    Add the cold, cubed beet compound butter and pulse 8-10 times until butter is pea-sized.
    Transfer the dough to a large mixing bowl, and gradually add the beet juice, 1 tablespoon at a time, mixing with your hands until the dough comes together.
    Knead the dough on a work surface, and divide into two even discs. Wrap in plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator overnight.
    Make the Dough: in the bowl of a food processor, add the flour, sugar, and salt, and pulse 2-3 times.
    Add the cold, cubed butter and pulse 8-10 times until butter is pea-sized.
    Transfer the dough to a large mixing bowl, and gradually add the ice water, 1 tablespoon at a time, mixing with your hands until the dough comes together.
    Knead the dough on a work surface. Wrap in plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator overnight.
    Add the blueberries, lemon juice, sugar, salt, and tapioca starch to large bowl and stir to combine.

    Looks like using beets to dye the pie dough and create that intricate weave pattern was a waste of time. looks nice before it's cooked, but afterwards, you can hardly tell a difference in color

      @@thoughtyness I'd do food coloring too. It's more efficient. Most of the contents come from vegetables anyway. Not like you're eating led with mercury.

    I just realized something. People who comment on tasty videos expect them to make the food perfectly and judge them so harshly. However compared to other cooking channels they are more forgiving. Why is this? Is it because Tasty is a company or do people just love to hate on them so harshly? The people in Tasty are.....*drumroll please* HUMAN! Meaning they are not going to be perfect no matter what title they have. However most of the viewers believe that they should be perfect and judge them harshly. Some recipes in Tasty are a bit Werid in my opinion however it still inspires people to cook. Which is what I think the main point is.

      Little Miss Acey She said before she used raspberry powder and the color was more vibrant so if she was looking for that “WOW!” Look she should have stuck to it. The beet’s magenta color is completely baked out and you are left with the standard golden brown color in the end using her current method. So why even bother with the extra steps if it doesn’t even produce the desired result anyway. Seems like a waste of time to me.

      I dont know if that was the same pie, i think they showed the same design but different pie wirh straight up regular crust. She definately added beet powder because thats the color of beets. Beets are used to color naturally in a lot of stuff and the color never disappears like that. It would be hard for that to even happen because it dyes and stains stuff way more than other fruits can.

    There's a reason why she takes photos of the pie dough, not the cooked pie. It's just aesthetic. Looking at the baked product, it looks too heavy and the dough sinks. But that bottom may be soggy too. Eh. You do with your own time what you want, I guess

      You can blind bake the bottom and it will make it crispier and more cooked before putting the filling in.

      +bugsgamer -- They probably do, just not on camera or it was edited out. The point is to demonstrate the steps, not show how to get every drop out of the bowl. On a lot of cooking shows, the final result is already made, the host is simply showing us the steps they used to get it into the oven. It saves camera time.

      I don’t think the beets were entirely pointless.
      What’s more than likely happening is that the lighting isn’t conducive to the colors, or that she didn’t do an egg wash before putting it in the oven; no egg wash would leave the entire dough more of a brown crisp, a pure egg white wash would add virtually no color and lots of shine, and a heavy cream or dairy wash would give it a touch of shine.
      Maybe to enhance the color she could’ve used two types of egg washes before she put the two colors of strips on, or she could add a touch of gel food coloring to the dough. And probably soak the dough in the fridge overnight in the beet juices.

    Honestly, forget the fancy colors or patterns, the weave alone on that pie was beautifully done. And the tart was so smooth and a perfect color. It looked amazing even before adding the fruit!

    Since our kids have grown and moved out, we don't really need to cook a 9 inch pie for two people, so I got a couple of 6 inch pie plates and started making half-recipe pies. I bought pre-made crusts and figured out that if I center the crust and trim the excess carefully, one crust is enough for a small pie. I cut excess crust (with the big round hole in the middle) into circular strips, quarter the strips, then use them to make a lattice top crust. Since the strips aren't straight, the middles bow out and ends come together at four points at the outside edges of pie. Hard to describe, but it looks cool!
    P.S. if you do this, use the straighter outside strips across the middle, then use the rounder inner strips as you go further out. The roundest inside strips should be used to make the outermost lattice strips.

    If you wanted the vibrant color of magenta why use beets? The color is baked out and you are left with an ordinary golden brown crust. The raspberry method that you said you used would seem to work better for color, so why not stick to it. This method seems like a waste of time for literally no result. Its cute when it’s pre-baked, but it’s inedible at that point, so no one is going to appreciate the beautiful magenta color when they see the final result.

      What's wrong with the taste? The blueberry filling would cover it up anyway. Also, the colour is up to you! Personally I think that if the colour of the dough is too bright, it can look suspicious and very unappetizing (like America, what's your deal with neon food colouring on cupcakes and desserts? That's terrifying!). But if you enjoy that, then go ahead and change it up!

      Cakey me depends from where. if they only have access to mass produced/out of season berries/fruit, then yes this fruit pie looks flavorless. but if anyone's tried the best kind of the fruit, we know that sometimes the natural sugars are enough to make its own syrup :3 but seriously idk what they do but strawberries from korea taste like strawberry syrup

    My grandpa loves blueberry pie so I made the woven one for Christmas and everyone loved it and I was the best blueberry pie I have ever had. It was really hard though because it was the first pie I had ever made and I was only 12 at the time but it was super fun.

      No you're not, I too was a bit irked that there was literal lumps of flour that had not been kneaded in.. I guess she is still learning.

      The lumps are usually butter and are supposed to be there! Trust me, a pie that isn't fullly mixed is a million times better than a pie dough that has been completely mixed.
