Love that Conan can take the time to pronounce Jason's last name correctly.

The interviewer for Jason’s Austin City Limits radio performance kept pronouncing it wrong so at the end Jason said “Oh it’s Isbell like ‘nipple,’ not like ‘nip-pell.’”
The interviewer asked “Oh but is that just your southern…?”
And Jason replied, “That is just…myyy last name.”

Always liked Conan. But we always missed Letterman Leno & Carson because we enjoyed late night tv back in the day and they were the best. Was a very big fan of Joan Rivers and was devastated when she died cuz of a doctor's negligence for a simple operation. Fummy as all hell and so Jewish cool.

Seen Jason and the band several times now in Scotland plus an acoustic set with his good lady Amanda Shires. Never been disappointed and can't wait for the next time. A fabulous talent.

Best song from a brilliant album, brilliantly played. But still diminished by the absence of Amanda Shires. I know she had the best reason not to be there but she is so integral to the sound now.

Loved this guy from the Drive by Trucker days glad to see that he still puts out amazing stuff.

safe to say that getting kicked out of the Drive by Truckers was not the worst thing that ever happened to Jason; indeed, it might have saved his life. Not sure that is what Patterson had in mind, but it seems to have worked out that way.

is it me, or does Conan's reaction at the end seem totally fake and robotic? (hey. great to see you. congratulations., etc)

Talk show hosts are always phony.

I had a totally different take on this... Conan very supportive of musicians, bu there is only so much to be said when they're at the end of the show.
Also guessing, but I had interpreted the "Congratulations" was offered as Isbell was soon to become a father. Amanda Shires was pregnant on their last appearance on Letterman (in May) and this Conan appearance is mid-Aug.

ah good point and I didn't think of that. Still, his goodbye on this one seems more rushed than usual for talk show hosts.

I think Conan is a fan. He talked about printing out lyrics of an Isbell song(Last of my kind iirc) and playing it on his guitar on his podcast. Only watch Conan on youtube and listen to his podacast but from what I hear he is very supportive and appreciative of comedians and artists, specially those he like.
