Spring is here and that means the cherry blossoms are in full bloom and its time for HANAMI season - in Japan people LOVE gathering under the sakura blossoms to enjoy drinking with family, friends, and even co-workers!
The Hanami Cherry Blossom Festival in Nakameguro has some of the best street food available too - so I thought I'd grab a few bites to eat before meeting up with the wife at the park to enjoy spring the Japanese way! ITADAKIMASU!

Seemed like a shorter video 🤔 Cannot blame you considering all the off camera live action FUN to be enjoyed at such festivals! 😅 Do they also have live music as we have in Sakura festivals in America? We have the 2 largest Sakura tree parks in America in Newark, NJ and Washington DC, with one located a 2.5 mile Jog from my home! 🤩👍 Did you enjoy listening to local bands playing traditional Japanese music or were there traditional dances? How about taiko drums?
This is not that kind of festival, but there are a lot during summers. I will try and capture some this summer

Fresh, homestyle cooked karaage is ALWAYS going to beat his sacred convenient store food! 😜 My favorite is either juicy, well seasoned rotisserie chicken like they serve in Greek or Peruvian restaurants, or juicy, flavorful, charred BBQ grilled chicken, and of course, spicy, flavorful Tandoori chicken, complete with dipping sauces! 😍👍

In November, there's the Fisherman's Festival in Hibiya Park. I went there when I visited and it was nice. Also, around that time, there was another one in Kabukicho for the sweet potatoes... ;-)

Karaage beats any fried chicken I've had. Did Angela get any takoyaki or was it consumed before you got to her? You eat takoyaki much more wisely than Dr. Broad, btw. I love this festival atmosphere! The busy stalls add so much life to the area. Street food festivals aren't really a thing here in the UK outside of big cities, unfortunately. Also, I guess festivals are an exception, but doesn't Japan have some really weird rules about eating outside or something?
Not really. It’s more a thing people try not to do in busy areas, people will always eat at the festivals

Amazing video Nick, i rarely see videos about festivals. But, I've always been curious about school festivals like the ones you see in anime. I am hoping a legend like you can get that video. No rush i can wait.
Yeah since my kids are already grown up it might be a bit tricky ? You mean the undokai school sports festival ?
@@JunkFoodJapan not really sure what they are called in japan, but it wasn't about sports i believe. In the show i watched it was like more like they built displays(such as art exhibits for clubs) and stalls (sometimes food stalls). It seemed like the school is open to the public, because they had visitors who were outsiders to the school. Sorry if I'm not being helpful.

Reminds me of the time when I was handed an entire bag of cotton candy with one scoop of ice cream, it was wild! I tend to love cotton-candy-flavoured things like ice cream or those Dum-Dum lollipops. But with actual cotton candy, the texture with the sickening sweetness is too much! #octupussy
