    Most of the audience have no idea that Nicholas Pettas (older guy) was a fierce and fearless K-1 (professional marshal arts) fighter standing against far bigger champions and other world class peers. A kind of legend in Japan. Anyway the golden rule regarding fish & chips is that you must start eating it within 60 seconds of it being out of the deep fryer. You will not be disappointed insofar as this rule is met particularly in Japan where fish of all kinds with sushi-grade freshness is available wherever you go.

It's not that he won all those bouts but his fighting spirits were certainly most inspiring.

    It's just past 10:00am in the UK, Playing this video I really want fish and chips! The Hobgoblin looks like a chain of pubs in the UK called Wetherspoons, the pubs are named after interesting places and events in British history. Glad to see that Cider is beginning to make his way into Japan. I live about 30 minutes away from where Thatchers is produced in the UK (Somerset) it's nice to see it featured. I'm glad you enjoyed the Great British staple that is fish and chips, the fish batter sounded fantastic! Yet another great video!

    • @giantrobot67
      @giantrobot67 8 месяцев назад +18

      Hobgoblin is the name of the beer brewed by the whychwood brewery in Witney Oxfordshire, where I live, I'm guessing that this place has permission to use its name, they produce some really good ales and beer, I would definitely recommend trying their Ruby beer 👍

      I get why you think that but it looks a lot better to me than most Wetherspoons and the quality and size of the food looks a lot better too. I won't ever eat in W'spoons but I definitely will go to that place when I'm there in a few weeks (I'm staying nearby) and will try all 3 of those meals - on separate visits! I just remembered I've been to the Hobgoblin before but I didn't eat anything that time.

    Fish and chips used to be served in newspaper, it started in the second world war because of paper rations, but by the mid 1980s it was decided it was unsafe for the food to come into contact with newsprint without a greaseproof paper liner. Nowadays they're mostly served in plain paper. I think some places used fake newspaper wrappers for a while? I miss it, I remember the smell of newsprint blending with the vinegar adding some extra aroma to the dish.

    You'd think that, in a country like Japan, they'd be able to get Fish and chips right every time. They've got great fish, they know a thing or two about deep-frying thing in batter, and the potatoes are quite nice too! But I guess that you can find bad places anywhere. At the very least the food in the last two places looked quite delicious!
    I shudder to think how much effort it must have been to burn all those calories, though, hahaha.

      Just from the vibe of the drinks menu being 4x the size of the food menu and the fact that it came out so fast, you just know they don't actually want to serve food there lmao. For all we know the cook only works the early shift and they just keep the food under heat lamps or in the microwave until some unknowing poor soul orders it.

    Neat, cod isn't the most popular fish in fish and chip shops in australia (probably because of a lack of cod?) Here when you go in and buy fish and chips, 90% of the time you're eating Flake, a local term that covers a few different fish, but mostly it's shark meat.

    • @angelaortiz939

      Cod is cold water fish so probably has to be frozen and shipped a long way to reach australia. In the UK there is also haddock in the chip shop which is a better fish than cod, it has better flavour and is less mushy. I have had frozen fish fillets using new zealand Hoki which had large chunky flakes and was just like cod, it didn't look like Flake looks in the videos I've seen

    • @Whitewingdevil
      @Whitewingdevil 8 месяцев назад

      Yeah Hoki is different for sure, pretty popular frozen fish here since we don't fish it locally.@@wullaballoo2642

    Wow, really interesting to see the Hobgoblin! It was literally a pub in central Oxford, the sign outside with the green colouring and yellow lettering looks just like the Oxford pub had as well! The pub is still open today but it's been renamed as the St Aldate's Tavern, I assume because they dropped the Wychwood partnership. Cool to see the name survives in some way. Also, as someone from England I especially appreciate 15:49 with "Now you can get your bollocks in a bottle"
