$10 can buy you a LOT of good food! What other places do you want to see my take this challenge?! 💰💰 Or maybe I should try spending $100? $1000? $1,000,000?!?!?!
(I'm not going to spend a million dollars on Junk Food)
100 sounds like a good idea and if you ever do 1000 mabye with a guest or two
$100
get a co host and give them $10 as well and see who comes up with the best food
Well, I guess you can't go wrong with going to Osaka. Or even Hiroshima, with their okonomiyaki!
There's that fellow food RUclipsr who tries to spend $100 on food in south east asian countries and fails again and again, falling way short of the budget each time even though his channel proclaims it's the best ever. What a scrub, amirite? Well, you can probably succeed at spending $100 in Japan, and it would allow you to take on the more exiting expensive dishes, but then you'd possibly miss out on showing off the exciting cheap stuff. Maybe copy those other shows where you try a couple meals at different price points and rate if it was a worthy experience, or just show off recommendations for different budget price points ($1, $5, $10, $20, just splurge; or going by some review aggregator $$$ ratings?), maybe vs. or cooperating with a co-host?

LoL, almost spit out my coffee when I saw that Mr. Affable poster
Love the subtle humor you put in all your videos
Cheers Mate ! The team loves making me look the fool and I don’t mind as I am a bumble bee all by myself
1:58 really had me for a second hahaha
Happy to entertain!
That was really affable.
Lol how I did I miss that!
The production of these videos is impressive. You have a great team.
Amazing team. Can’t praise them enough! I swear by it. United we stand stronger
Absolutely wonderful take on the food challenge! Would be really cool to see more 10$ videos, but also perhaps a few 100$ aswell to see what kind of yummy foods that certain areas can offer!
And as always impecable editing with lovely vibes in the video!
I like where you are going with this
1:58 Can't tell if the "Japan's mr affable" on top is real or not lol
It’s real in this video for sure
I would definitely love to see more of these challenges, but also different tiers or variations to them (50 dollars, 100 dollars, desserts, vegetarian, etc.)
We hear you for sure. I loved the challenge and want to do more
Always appreciated the editing on these videos very much. Nice to finally "meet" Paul through the Van Gang!
LFMAO it was like a real bad version of Lord of the Rings. I couldn’t stop laughing 😂
@@RideOnTimePH Yes please, the video is going to explode with these 2
This is a channel I could never unsubscribe from
Thank you TOMODACHI
Shoutout to Paul, for all your great work! Finally got see/hear from you during the Van Gang live stream :D
BoooM he good at his job
Loved this video format. I think a good idea might be to do a few videos in one region of Japan, then do a wrap up "What To Get With $10" video like this one.
Also, good on you for helping Abroad In Japan get on the health track!
He is doing really good!
This is one of things I love in Japan, cheap delicious food everywhere. You just walk down the street and you'll see a window or small stall, it cost a few bucks and it will be one of the best food you ever had.
It’s true that you can get real lucky here
That edited frame of "subscribe to junk food japan" at 10:27 on the wall really caught me off guard! So cool!
He’s good that editor Paul… BoooM happy Easter egg hunting
Love me some street food! That was also how I kept my trip to Japan pretty cheap, the occasional nice meal but I mostly lived off street food and konbini snacks (and some fried chicken haha)
Fried chicken in Japan is actually really cheap
@@JunkFoodJapan yeah, my favourite was 7/11 spicy chicken, didn't understand the Family Mart hype
i miss the 7/11 onigiris every time i think of japan :(
I'm Japanese and I'm pretty new to your channel but I immediately fell in love with you gussying it up with the random store clerks' remarks with extra spiciness like "Are you deaf?" which I can vouch for being 200% accurate as non-literal translation😂😂😂
That’s so cool that you found me. Welcome to the channel TOMODACHI and yes I am kinda LOUD
I cackled when I saw the Mr Affable banner, hahaha love the editing of your team. Awesome content :)
Thank you 🙏 Paul is having a lot of fun editing that’s for sure
genuinely felt kind of lonely after about 3 weeks of no vids, but i get it, it's not easy to make these. so no pressure to make them quicker. really I'm just glad nick's back to poorly describe flavours again :)
LMFAO 🤣 I say what I feel about the food
im loving the editor's sass lmao. adds so much to the video
They have their fun them boys
i always watch your videos while eating dinner or else im going hungry watching you sample all that food!
You got that right!!! @Chema
Another great video! Cant wait to go to Japan
Thank you 🙏 and I hope you make it here soon
Another great episode!
Cheers! TOMODACHI
Awesome as usual, Osu !
BoooM
this is so good; keep it up!
Will
Do Sir
It's actually kinda cool you speak English to them and they understand+talk back in English. Helping to kill the stigma that Japanese people don't really know English.
Most actually do have basic skills
2:04 - Just laughing quietly at my desk about the Chris banner in the background 😂
it was so smooth I had to go back and double check it !
Love the energy you bring to the videos, this may be my new favourite channel to watch 👍👌 Love all the little short blerbs that pop up through out the videos too, they often make me laugh 😅👍👌
Also loved the video you did with Sharla, she's awesome, also another of my favourite RUclipsrs..
I'll definitely be tuning in to see what you are up to next 👍👍
You are welcome to the Channel TOMODACHI
The little Chris Broad Easter egg was great 🤣
Right I loved it! and there are more in there too
2:19 I think I saw the ever best subtitle translate in my life 🤣
Lol 😂
Loved the little ad of Chris sitting out of sight
Yeah Paul is quite clever in the editing room
One of your best videos so far I think! It was great to see all the different kinds of budget-conscious food in the area to help in vacation planning.
It was real fun to explore the different things to buy CHEAP in Sendai, where should I go next ?
@@JunkFoodJapan I'd love to see Sapporo and Fukuoka! Also Osaka to see how well that budget works there
Awesome, definitely wouldn't mind seeing more of this :)
I hear you and I agree this format was fun
I had to rewind to 10:27 again to make sure I was reading that new sign right! Nice touch!!
OMG 😱 I needed to double check that Easter egg myself ! LOL 😂 he’s good
Love the vids, keep up it up!
Thank you 🙏 and we are here to stay
4:28 it was innovative. I was impressed….😂
Happy Easter egg hunt
I love your show man!
Heeey ! Thank you 🙏 and welcome to the channel TOMODACHI
2:00 nice Chris Easter egg
BoooM happy egg hunt
Great video!
Thanks ! and feel free to help us grow by sharing it.
It was an easy-to-understand food report! movie thank you
Thank you. Please come back for more food stories
You made it to that burger stand! It was sold out when I went there and the next time I'm in Japan I've got to go and try it!
It’s worth a go for sure. Even just for bragging rights
Another slam dunk video!
BoooM
My only improvement for this video would be a counter somewhere, even periodically showing how much you spent. It would be nice to see how much each item costs and how much value it had.
We thought about it…
I totally laughed at the Mr Affable "banner" in the background of the market section
Happy Easter egg hunting
Awesome video good sir!
Osu! Thank you TOMODACHI
Excellent episode. You are know how to find awesome food items. A lot of research ??
You got that right ! The team is relentless
Great post..!
Thank you and welcome to the channel
Kudos to the editor for 1:57.
Yeah for sure
It is quite interesting seeing how much you food you can get for $10 on the other side of the planet, and yet since it is a small amount of money it keeps it relatable, as we call all compare it smaller purchases we make during the week around the same cost.
Great comment. And welcome to the channel TOMODACHI
Street food, the real junk food. 10/10
more of this please.
You got it !
Love the hidden banner
Me too, I was so impressed when I saw it the first time
Another great video Nic, thanks for giving a budget-centric view on delicious food, I've always viewed Japan as being hyper taxing on your wallet so these kinds of insights into cheap delicious food arew invaluable! Also, I'm trying to follow Chris' example and lose some weight (which I gather you have a key role in helping him achieve), I know it's rather against the Junk Food idea but would you consider doing a ""weight watchers guide to japanese food" or something that helps highlight maximum flavour minimum calories for a visitor to Japan on a (reasonable) calorie budget?
I think this is a great idea!
Great video as always. Love the editing in this episode as well as the previous ones. I do have 1 question though: have you ever thought of doing an episode on "Family Restaurants"? This is because I am always curious if they are even considered junk food as they are just everywhere according to what I've heard about them. If you have done one before or have one on the way, please ignore my question.
Also, I saw you help get Mr. Affable into shape for his charity cycle streams across Hokkaido. Nice work!
So it’s a tricky one, the big places can be hard to film in. But I do see us getting into family restaurants at some point when the channel gets big enough. Right now we are still a young growing channel with so much potential. So feel free to help grow it by sharing and commenting. Mr. Affable is doing good 👍
I love Sendai, and I never knew they had a morning market. It's on the bucket list.
If you want cheap eats the Matsunoya Tonkatsu near Sendai station is incredible.. and so cheap
Did you just say Tonkatsu? I am on my way
@@JunkFoodJapan Just checked street view, and it is literally next door to the taiyaki restaurant in your video!!
These videos are making me hungry
Me too
Absolutely more!
Yep I hear you!
oh man croqet? Sounds divine! Deep fried mashed potatos!😋😋
Mmmmmm mmmm mmm 😋
Nothing makes you want to visit a place like nice scenery and good food. UMAIII!!!
ITADAKIMASU
haha nicely put together mate
Yeah it was a real fun video to shoot
Was that Chris doing a David Attenborough impersonation? It was a REALLY good impression!
LoL 😂 no it was not Dr. Broad but our brilliant editor…
Hmm, I'd actually like to see you do some more rare challenges or maybe even cooking ones. Like making/using authentic miso (like in the fat salt acid heat) episode, or maybe going the discovery route with how Japan originally got its salt.
Interesting… I like challenges
Sendai is awesome! My fav city I've been to in Japan, for sure.
I do find myself going back time after time
I'm really enjoying you videos, Nick. This was another great one. If not sure if it was an easter egg or an actually banner in the back ground, but did anyone else catch it at the 1:58 mark?
Easter egg for sure ! There are quite a few here and there on the shows. Paul is quite the creator
love the easter egg at 1:58, japans mr affable indeed.
See if you can find the other 🥚
@@JunkFoodJapan you mean the sign on the wall at 10:28 saying viewers to subscribe? Or was there more than those two?
2:00 haha. Nice
Happy Easter egg hunting
Enjoy the video! I hope you also go to festivals and events and get the food and drinks there. Like the snow festival they have in Hokkaido I think
The snow BBQ in Hokkaido looks fun for sure
YES! Do more 10$ challenges!
You got it!
Food looked good. The fired tofu at the end would definitely need the toppings to add flavour. Looking forward to future food budget, both cheap and expensive, videos.
Me too !
Love the mr affable sign
Nice one! I caught it too the first time I watched the edit. It looks so real !
But does the food make me more affable? 🤣 Great video as always!
There’s only one affable
I liked the Abroad in Japan banner LOL
Happy egg hunt
That burger looked a bit sad but the tai-yaki on the other hand looked so appetizing. Amazing video as always!
Thank you! I should have gotten the cheeseburger 🍔
Forgot you knew the Chris Abroad guy. Haha. Another great video Nick. I felt a bit of comedic dissonance listening to the croquette lady and reading the subtitles. Made it funnier for me.
Happy to grab your attention. Feel free to hang around for more food stories, next one is gonna be epic
@@JunkFoodJapan can't wait
I really like Sendai, a nice city with a nice vibe.
Also, I had some really delicious grilled cow tongue and cow tongue soup, yes, it sounds not so delicious, I thought so too, but I was wrong.
Go down to Kagoshima and have some delicious kurobuta!
Mmmmm mmm 😋
crazy how much that was, and then considering, the exchange rate recently has been hovering around 1:130-140, so you could buy even more o_o
More food makes me happy
A trip to Japan will be expensive, but not because of food, apparently.
All those street foods looked positively yummie and "nearly-healthy".
It was a fun day
I loved the mr. affable banner on top the street. UMAI 10 dollar food
Nice one ☝️
All that market food looks great! Surprising how much $10 gets - one day gyutan another day deep fried croquette😋
It’s just fun street food
Looks good
Lots of fun Food to find for sure
$10 got you a lot man! I wish I was there to try everything you got :D
It was really fun challenge !
When I saw that this video is in Sendai, I expected a cameo from an affable YOOTUBAH, zunda shake and street food treats, and was not disappointed.
I see that you too, also eat the taiyaki head first. How about doing a 1000 yen challenge in Hakodate or Fukuoka?
I am down for it for sure
Awesome vid, Nic! Keep’ em coming. I’m heading up there next month. Love eating in Sendai! Do you have a favorite restaurant there?
Matt! A favorite place…?!? I know too many but depending on what you are in the mood for? I highly recommend the yokocho, just jump in and bar hop around. There are some fantastic yakitori and even RockNRoll places there. It’s such a cool place close to Kokubunji
@@JunkFoodJapan I always head straight to Izakaya Cho Cho but definitely want spend more time exploring Ichibancho. That's my heaven. haha
You gotta do a Sapporo vid next! Sendai reminds me so much of when I lived there. Got so addicted to Sendai during Covid when we couldn't travel overseas.
Nice one
Thank you 🙏
Yeah, zunda shake is surprisingly good. The freshness and umami of edamame beans make the shake tastes better. IMO zunda shake is the best shake in the world.
It’s the best milk shake I have ever had that’s for sure
Would love more $10 challenges in different areas to get what around locally!
You got that right! Can’t wait to get out there shoot it all
not 10 dollars anymore! 🤪 love your videos, greetings from Kyoto
Thanks 🙏 feel free to hang around for more food stories
Van Gang for life
Who?
1:58 nice banner mod haha 😄
Easter egg found
Keep up the good work 👍✌️
Will do my friend
This video really makes me wanting to visit sendai just to eat for a day. Btw who saw that advertisment for Japan's Mr affable in the morning market? 😁
I did ! And a few others have commented on it. Brilliant little Easter egg
I hate myself for watching your videos when I'm hungry!!!🤒🤒
OK, that is just funny, but seriously! Go grab something!
@@JunkFoodJapan As an adult, there are quota for junk food intake now, so my best option is to watch you in envy!!
Could love to see a how much food you can get for $10 all around different parts of Japan
We shall explore more options for sure!
@2:03. Lmao
BoooM
I miss Sedai. Being over 10o years since I lived there many things have changed and yet it seems as I remember it... 😅
It’s a nice place with nice people for sure
@@JunkFoodJapan I wish I could go back someday. There are personal health challenges preventing me from just going even before the current situation making it practically impossible.
Oh and if you're still in contact with Chiaki from Imagination, you have to get her to do a video with you 🙏🙏🙏 You two were the best presenters, you both made the show so fun and both worked so well together 😊
Yeah that is going to be really hard as she is an anchorwoman on a 5 hour lives show all weekdays. But if our channel get's big enough it would awesome to have come on the show. I really miss that show we had so much fun
red bean taiyaki(idk if I spelled that right has very specific and strong taste if you rarely eats sweets chocholate for example you may like it but if you are like me and cant live without eating every single in the world I personnaly think you wont really like(I personally wasnt able to take more then 3 bites), maybe I had bad one and everyone has different taste but I am personally cant stand it(no disrespect for japanese people or culture I just wanted to leave my opinion about taikay for somene who hasnt tried it.
p.s. awesome video
I don’t like Taiyaki that’s for sure. Loved your comment and welcome to the channel TOMODACHI
@@JunkFoodJapan thanks I am one of first viewers and always enjoyed this channels vids. 100% my favorite food channel.
I had taiyaki with custard filling at Awa Odori. Was not much of a fan of that one, so anytime I see taiyaki I shy away, but that green tea one, and the anko... mmmm. Alright alright, I'll give taiyaki another chance next time I'm in Japan.
Also I like seeing how absolutely cheap all these foods are! Incredible you can eat ALL THAT for $10 : D
$10 in America will get you one burger and some fries, maybe a candy bar. That's it. If you get the right place maybe 3 or 4 tacos. But that's just one meal. Here you had a milk shake, 2 croquettes, 2 taiyaki, a burger and fried tofu. That's about 2 meals and a snack.
It was quite the fun challenge! Wanna see more ?
@@JunkFoodJapan yes, absolutely! Especially in more rural areas too! Away from the city, I wonder what neat little cheap hole in the walls could be found
Should've gone to the Abroad In Japan studios for some cheap ramen
I hear he can't cook?
Now time to do $10 in Tokyo. I think it can't be done
Challenge accepted!
Was expecting Chris to walk
by
He almost did LOL 😂
at least now I know the value of it. Arigato!
This is a fun challenge, planning on doing more for sure
@@JunkFoodJapan Kept doing it. So fun to watch, even the narrative also cheerful. I hope one day you do halal food review in Japan.
1:58 Japan's mr affable
Happy Easter egg hunt
