    Glad that you have a good quality mic - you can definitely hear the difference between your fair vs bottom deal - even in the first 4 player hand you dealt, and continuing into practice. When you were talking about the sound, it was exaggerated, but you can definitely still hear it in your regular technique. The video is great for those wondering what to listen for.

    I hate when creators of sleight of hand technique videos feel they have to apologize for being in-depth causing lengthy videos . There are a lot of nuances, flash cover ups, little hacks that each person finds that may offer better performance and lastly when to use and not to use certain moves that are important to cover in a sleight of hand tutorial.
    Your videos are fantastic and always on point. Regardless of length! 🙌

    I would recommend keeping all fingers on either side of the top corner. And using a minimal move when pushing the bottom card off to then retract the fingers to the corner instead of down. This will get rid of any finger flash.
    Also try, if you are able to, second dealing with the same grip. Fair, second and bottom deal.
    Last thing is not to lift the deck, as shown in the video as that may expose the bottom card. Instead tilt the deck in the direction in which you are dealing, so tilt right if the deck is in your left hand. Look at Ricky Jay bottom dealing and you'll understand the tilt.
    Just some of my own methods but either way great tutorial!

  • @jonathanjeong

    Question: If I move my 3rd and 4th finger to the bottom edge of the deck, how do I thumb out just the top card without the cards fanning out sloppily (regular top dealing) I would have used the 3rd and 4th fingers to help keep the rest of the cards in place while I move the top one with my thumb.
    Thanks for the tutorial @cardmechanic. I think this is great and the right level of detail.

    • @CardMechanic
      @CardMechanic  4 года назад +2

      Thank you! When pushing out the top card with your thumb, you are still going to be using your third and fourth finger to keep the rest of the cards in place. This does require practice but I’m sure you will get it down!

    • @vi5ionary
      @vi5ionary Год назад +1

      I have the same problem, and HAD the same problem with Daniel Madisons tutorial. I’ve ruined two decks trying to learn this from Daniel, and now another deck of cards is thrashed after working from this video. It’s illogical to say I need to use 3 and 4 to push down/out the card, while at the same time holding the pack in place with the same fingers?! There has to be a crucial detail I don’t see here. Even after weeks of training this, I don’t see any meaningful progress or useful insights. What’s happening is I either mangle the bottom card, which btw goes into my palm instead of out, OR the top and bottom cards stay in place and all cards in between slide out in one big mess.
      It’s rare that I don’t get something like this AT ALL, usually I get an ‘Ah, like this!’ fairly quickly, but not here. 😔

    There are other methods for this move in case people find one too hard, they can try another.
    I don't pull bottom card free, just slide it out on fingers of dealing hand, that way my ring and little fingers stay still, and are not moving up and down the edge of the deck.
    I just do things weird lol.

    Your biggest mistake is using the Erdnase grip. I’d recommend either a master grip or a classic mechanic’s grip. Your rhythm is a bit off. Try practicing with a metronome to get the rhythm down correctly.
    You’ve got an exaggerated waving motion in your deals which is also a dead give away. Try watching the way you normally deal cards and try to mimic those motions as close as possible.
    You’ve still got some knuckle flash which is still visible even with the motion of your hand. Try to reduce the finger movements as much as you can.
    There’s some noise when you’re dealing, start slow when practicing and experiment with different ways of taking the card out in order to get rid of that different sound.

      I'd like to ask a very important question! I've seen the bottom grip performed with 3 fingers at the bottom, " The middle doing the pulling ". In terms of the the cleanest way to do it, What is the best technique to perform the bottom deal? With the Middle pulling down or the ring finger pulling down?

    • @Alpysf
      @Alpysf 5 лет назад +1

      RazzerRaw well, what you are referring to is either the mechanics grip or a variation of it (e.g master grip). When you use an erdnase type grip, you usually need to bend the ring and/or pinky to be able to push the card off. But if you’re doing a push off from the mechanic’s grip, you wouldn’t really need to bend your fingers that much, and the possibility of this finger movement being seen reduces to a large extent, specially if you use all 3 fingers for the push off action.
      And for your question about the “best way to do the move” I can say only one thing: there is no best way. Every hand shape is different. The best way to learn the best bottom deal that works for you is to get as many references on the move as you can find (and I don’t mean different youtube videos. Actual books). When you spend at least a few months with each technique, you’ll get an understanding and would be able to develop your own technique which is unique to you. I personally have really long fingers, and because of that, I literally can’t use an erdnase grip push off due to the huge knuckle flash, and my mechanics grip push off is not as motionless as I want it to be, or as people like Richard Turner can do because of their hand size. I prefer a strike technique (both on erdnase and mechanics grip) as there would be far less finger motion, but when the need arises, I would usually do a seesaw bottom deal if I have to do a push off.

      @@thespecuber1319 that’s not true. The whole reason behind keeping the cut card on the bottom while dealing is because the bottom deal is imperceptible when done properly, even to those who know the move

      @@patrickjohneby1306 its not that its the grip everyone who will do a bottom deal will have a loost grip on deck with bottom two fingers laid loose almost straight otherwise you cant take the bottom card out. Look closely next time you will be able to spot it from front, but yeah from top i guess you could fool someone MAYBE.
