@@DEEDZ_z The level of magic and level of character in presenting the act is very disproportionate. His magic is real, his presentation is a wannabe mysterious cool guy. The way he smirks as he goes along is a lack of focus which tells me the magic is done by an invisible friend of his.
Would be hilarious since they were turned away from audience to have them turn back towards the audience at the end of the act and they are both 9 months pregnant.
Man was good, no doubt. But after looking at the video frame-by-frame in SVP, the marker went into his red vest. It happens right after he moves his right hand up to his left hand, then quickly pulls it back. In that instance, he dips it into his vest where it is likely lined as a giant pocket (so to speak). Then pulls out a separate marker from his pocket shortly after.
@@NN13K0 It's so good because anyone with basic knowledge would think he palmed the marker with that motion. So it's like misdirection specifically against magicians.
Agreed, it is fine to try and figure out the trick. But to proclaim you were not completely baffled on the first take. Would be a lie, less you are a historian of the magical arts.
You have a point. But telling the audience that the spectators are chosen at random as a lie is a pretty disrespectful. 5:45 proves it. holding a signed card in his mouth. While holding the ziplock bag with a pointer finger and flipping it to his index finger clearly shows that there are more than 2 signed cards in play. Completely set up. He deserves great credit for the performance. A great magician. But really? Lying to the audience like that? Pretty big low blow.

I have watched this multiple times. Easily one of the most beautiful magic tricks I have ever seen and some of the best slight of hand bits that is out there.
Robert Headley While the whole deck trick is great, the placement of the card in his vest is very easily seen in his misdirection at the 3:44 mark. Watch the hand holding the deck, not his obvious misdirection.
I’ve watched this routine so many times and not to figure it out but because i just absolutely love this routine and it’s effect. Shin Lim is either a magical wizard or an alien with technology that we dont have. Shin Lim just wanna let you know you are my favorite magician man!!

I've watched countless breakdowns of this performance from multiple youtubers...but when shown all together like he does, it is simply amazing and truly "magical" no pun intended, just no other way to describe it.
The original form is called card tricks. Magic is just a filler to make it seem unreal. It’s not actually magic. Over the years the term magic is just used in dumb sentences like yours. “This is magic at its purest” elaborate because that makes 0 sense.
@@Whocares-ew9op we all know “magic” is a form of entertainment. Not everyone cares how it’s done because that really ruins it. As long as your entertained by “magic” there’s really nothing else that matters
I went back to watch that marker disappearance at 3:25, in slow motion, a least a dozen times, and I'm convinced that's actual, real magic. It just straight-up vanished. Like, one frame it's there, the next it's gone. Dude just deleted that marker. Absolutely mind-blowing. Well done!
I think he places it on the back of his right hand. Notice how he keeps his palm straight moving it back down towards his pockets. At the "vanishing point", the motion seems to point to the marker going over the top of his fingers on his right hand and falling right on the back. Maybe one side of the marker is sticky or something. Whatever it is, that's crazy timing and dexterity.
@@Shalnn I don't think so. The shot after it cuts to a different camera, but it's continuous, and you can see him move his hands out of that position and show the other sides. I think he has to put it in his shirt; you can see him move his hand closer to his shirt when he vanishes it, but the fact you don't see any movement of his vest is bizarre. Still not sure, but yeah, it's a well deserved win for him.
There is like no other way than back palming the marker. But the idea of that is just insane. Like back palming a card is already hard enough and only possible through bending it and being paper thin. A marker is NOT paper thin so yeah...... idk
I've seen it at least 15 times now, and I am able to catch a few things here and there. I have an idea as to how some of the stuff is done based on some of the stuff that I have caught, which may be what Penn references to when he talks to Shin Lim about his performance, but the performance still blows me away even now. And even with the stuff that I have seen, as Penn himself said, I still have no idea how in the world Shin Lim vanished the marker, especially the second time he did it. He is truly one of the best magicians in the world right now, and I hope he does well on AGT this year!
After watching countless magician's acts on Fool Us, this one by Shin Lim is by far the one that captures that sense of mystery and awe of something truly unexplainable. While knowing that it is all merely slight of hand, there is a sense that perhaps some real magic was witnessed, even if for just a moment. Shin Lim is the true magician's magician.
What's so strong about this is instead of using one trick to perform many variations, he used many tricks to perform one act. That's amazing! We really couldn't keep up because there were so many being thrown at us.
I do not believe I have seen card work done this beautifully...ever. I worked for two different illusionists as an assistant in my younger years, and still don’t know how they did some of their tricks. This man has a unique style, and a stage presence that commands attention without being brash. His introduction of smoke in such lovely subtle ways added more mystery to an already staggering routine. He deserves all the success the future will bring. Flawless ness does not come by whim...but by great dedication and work. He has clearly been paying his dues. Respect.🖤🇨🇦
It actually wouldn't matter if you knew exactly how he did every part. It's the skill in doing it really well that matters, and that takes endless practice.
Ian I agree with you partly, but this isn’t exactly true. Most of these sleights are pretty easy, but it’s the beautiful routining and choreography, and the genius psychology in each trick.

david blaine is fake... the stuff he did in the past are well known tricks.. the stuff he does now is a mixture of magic and stunts e.g. sword swallowing etc.
Unlike other acts I saw on this show, this one doesn't have to be 'figured out'. This was 'magic' in its simplest form, and watching him perform was a great treat! The no-speaking part just added to the beauty of the act, very well done sir, can watch this for hours!
none of them have to be figured out but some people like to. Honestly, personally I love figuring out tricks....I appreciate them MOST once they are figured out. But I agree some people really shouldn't figure it out because it really ruins it for them and they loose touch with how it's artistry
Yeah, no shit. I tried the same thing, his slight of hand is just too good! Especially on the cards in the ziplock bag. I know how he did it, but even at quarter speed you can't see him doing it!
If I replay each trick several times, I can figure out how a few of them are done. But I'm still completely confused by many others. This is an incredible performance. And he's easy on the eyes, too!
This is 100% thee most graceful, beautiful card magic I have ever seen. The music, the no speaking, the smoke, it just all comes together beautifully. Love it
It’s such an incredible performance. If you watch it enough times, sure, you can see some of what goes where, when he puts stuff in his mouth etc but it’s more in the way you do it. The music was a beautiful choice. No reason why more magic shouldn’t be more like this.
@@adamnugent2137 all part of being a class act. I just stumbled on him today and this performance solidifies him as fantastic imo. now I need to binge his stuff haha
the first pen vanish is obvious, he just slips it into his jacket, the second one he just holds the pen lid between his fingers whilst his fingers are bent forward then flicks his fingers back so the pen is behind his hand and then drops it behind his leg. looks cool but quite easy to figure out
If it was so easy as you say then I am sure Penn and Teller would have caught onto what he was doing, but as they said they had no clue as to how they vanished the marker.
The deck transfer trick at 3:38 - 4:40 is explainable. First he starts with a full deck and draws the autographed 7 out with his right hand (left on your screen) & twirls it to create a distraction, then with his left hand (right on your screen) he cuts the deck by hiding most of the deck in his red jacket (you can see him pushing the deck in with his fingers) as he does this he makes the deck appear like it was a full deck the whole time by using a trick card that is hollow on the inside & can compress and decompress to create the illusion the deck is full or not full. So at this point you think you see a full deck when really its about 1-3 real cards and one trick card that makes the deck appear full in its decompressed stage. Moving on, Then he puts his hand over the deck and compresses the trick card creating the illusion that the cards vanished when in reality there weren't any cards present (just air). Then with his right hand (left on your screen) he grabs a new deck & tucks the autographed 7 under the deck for some slight of hand he will do later whilst keeping the trick card in the opposite hand. Then he blows the trick card that's in his left hand (right on your screen) shakes it and releases pointer finger so the card can decompress & appear like a full deck, while also with his opposite hand he simultaneously tucks the deck he picked up earlier in his palm with slight of hand while revealing only the autographed 7 & making the deck appear to be flat. Creating the illusion he transferred decks in mid air without physics. He then puts the trick card back in the pile & once again decompresses it. Trick Done. The takeaway is this guy is legendary and has god like slight of hand. Even when you understand how he did the trick, it may take a lifetime to replicate it. If this were done in person I would of surly missed it, Meaning the Magic was achieved.
Yeah his tricks (at least the ones here) are simple in principle but expertly executed. You can pick up on how all of them are done after watching it twice, but his showmanship makes me not want go with the it. Great stuff
I think its retarded when someone does 100 magic tricks rather than ONE FUCKING MAGIC TRICK...then if the boys don't know all 100 then they are fooled :P
wolfafe It is slight of hand nothing is going on but the speed in which he does the trick. It is such a great trick but at 4:28 you can see he has 2 decks of cards out, one on each hand.
ells5656 I am aware that it's about the speed of your hands, but still it was really impressive that i ended up watchin' like a zombie and just repeating "so cool"
As someone analytically minded, who likes to pick apart and figure things out... It was so much art through performance magic, and the music is used so well that it left me simply wanting to have enjoyed it with absolutely no desire to figure it out. That was truly moving in the least expected way. Amazing!
It's not even,, "Respect the trick" It's more like "Respect the artists creation" Even the greatest painters used familiar mediums: shapes, colors, techniques... to create a masterpiece. This guy is a Matise, Red Period. AmiRight?
Emory Blake to this I say, we may see beauty in another's creation, but take care in your endeavors not to relish in anothers path of glory longer than is necessary to encourage them, while realizing the next step in your own path.
The bit about the marker is always my favorite part. I know it’s an old video but as a fellow musician whose playing has suffered from wrist injuries as well, your routines always remind me of what I loved about studying and performing music.
I'm not so sure he did fool them, but the performance was just so amazingly beautiful, they had to reward him somehow. And rightfully so. I've seen this multiple times, and between the magic, the music, and the lighting, it is perhaps the most ethereal (and difficult) card magic performance you'll ever see.
Thomas Sikes No they probably did, just because if no one on the I internet (who can watch this as many times as they want at different speeds) can figure this out. Some of the world's best or not, they were fooled.
Now those guys are in an extremely difficult position. Because there are certain standards that most individual tricks are varriations of. An experienced pro will know all the standards and also the usual ways of making them into new tricks. So the pro will know a trick even if they don't see it. But as magicans they know also that this is wrong, that you can't know without seeing for with magic you cannot even know with seeing. This act consisted of many standards I guess from the reaction at 9:15. BUT! So yeah he did not fool them in any detail, but the overall effect was something they felt they could not easily explain or reproduce. I am sure as hell the marker was a standard well known and easily recognized by pros, so it was probably respect for the show, not for the single tricks. Still does not mean he did not fool them at all.
An amazing display magic, an alluring stage presence. Funny thing is, the marker sleight of hand tricks seemed to me the most obvious (and they were still killer). All of the other movements were so discreet that even slowing down the video I can't make sense of them. He's a brilliant combination of skill and showmanship.
the first time he vanished the marker, it was very obvious what he did, especially when you see where he takes it out from after; but I can't figure out how he vanished it the second time
+Raymond Chin I think I have figured out he vanishes the second marker. if I am right then the trick won't work if he faced the camera: First he attaches the marker to the back of his right hand (with his fingers bent inwards), when he moves his hands apart he opens his hand so that the marker is hidden by his fingers, finally he moves his right hand below the table to remove the marker.
+Raymond Chin also after he vanishes the marker he keeps his index finger on his right hand bent inwards which I think is so he could remove whatever held the marker in place.
its not that hard :D once u have a trained eye and know the fundementals :) but i know a good magic trick when I see one, and alot of preparation and practice was put into this. one of my favourite card magic tricks for sure.
Just want to take a moment and express how the music (in film or any theater piece) is overlooked so much that adds to the performance. That music the whole time is just a complete build up to his final act. You can even hear it in the audience halfway through...they applaud shortly when expected, but they are there sitting on the edge of the their seats. Every single note, and every single movement of Mr. Lim is building up to the finale. His performance plus the music score is the package that makes this entire performance work.

Just saw this. I could see most of his tricks, just watch his hands carefully and always. If he's right hand is hyper active, the trick is on the left.
Honestly, I feel like this collection of tricks, “the dream act”, is a performance that P&T were perfectly fine with being fooled by. The creativity, the execution, the presentation, were all amazing. Ever since I saw this, it lives in my head constantly. I don’t any other performances have done this. There’s never a trick that I’ve been like, “I will pay every cent I have to learn this”. I’ve used some aspects from this, such as breathing smoke, in my case vape, in my own tricks. I’ll get a spectator to pick a card, then tell them to write it on my vape, then hit it and when I exhale have the card come out as well. When I want to show someone what beautiful card magic, or hell even beautiful magic in general is, I show them this video. Not only was this an amazing trick, but also done so smoothly, and perfectly that it is the definition of beauty in magic. Not to mention the atmosphere he preforms in. Everything about this act was beautiful.
The atmosphere is huge, he’s wearing red and black, and the red and black trippy movements behind him only add to his performance. I’ve seen better illusions but I don’t think I’ve seen a better performance.
I seen this years ago and was as astonished as everybody else. And the Hans Zimmer - Inception music works and fits in amazingly well with the magic he's doing. Completely Flawless.
Vayne main maybe they dont have a pause and advance frame by frame .... all you idiots think its so easy to see but on the momment with all thats going on , i dare you little smart asses to catch something live. Magic was never meant to be on video

When I watch Shin Lim though I can think of ways to do many of the tricks he does, but he does everything so smoothly that it's all just theory. I can't find any obvious palms or anything like that and all of his movements are so fluid. It's nuts.
This is the only magic performance I've ever seen that was so lyrical and moving that it brought a tear to my eye. Just beautiful. I used to buy tricks to learn how they were done and I've spent a lot of time reading about the craft of magic and card manipulation but with Shin Lim I don't even care how he does them all, even though I can tell some of it, because it's more rewarding to just sit back and let this artistry touch the soul.

Legend has it that after all these years, Penn is still looking for Shin Lim's marker
Hell yeah I would be looking for that marker too
Man was good, no doubt.
Did he look in his back pocket?
@@NN13K0 It's so good because anyone with basic knowledge would think he palmed the marker with that motion. So it's like misdirection specifically against magicians.

The shot after it cuts to a different camera, but it's continuous, and you can see him move his hands out of that position and show the other sides.

the first pen vanish is obvious, he just slips it into his jacket, the second one he just holds the pen lid between his fingers whilst his fingers are bent forward then flicks his fingers back so the pen is behind his hand and then drops it behind his leg. looks cool but quite easy to figure out
If it was so easy as you say then I am sure Penn and Teller would have caught onto what he was doing, but as they said they had no clue as to how they vanished the marker.
Great explanation!
Yeah his tricks (at least the ones here) are simple in principle but expertly executed. You can pick up on how all of them are done after watching it twice, but his showmanship makes me not want go with the it. Great stuff

I'm not so sure he did fool them, but the performance was just so amazingly beautiful, they had to reward him somehow. And rightfully so. I've seen this multiple times, and between the magic, the music, and the lighting, it is perhaps the most ethereal (and difficult) card magic performance you'll ever see.
i agree he truly is outstanding

You can even hear it in the audience halfway through...they applaud shortly when expected, but they are there sitting on the edge of the their seats. Every single note, and every single movement of Mr. Lim is building up to the finale. His performance plus the music score is the package that makes this entire performance work.
I have watched this at least 10 times over the years. No matter how many times I watch it, I am always left speechless. It has been great watching Shin evolve over the years to where he is now.
Same.
My dad use to do magic tricks like this all the time except instead of using cards he would drink heavily and beat my mom in front of us
Finn Halladay wtf?
Finn Halladay LMAOO
nice trick
Same
Finn Halladay this is such an offensive copypasta for people like me.. that actually had a bad childhood yk.. grow up and stop copying dumb peoples jokes and stop beeing dumb
This performer is so amazing and beautiful that I don't even want to know how it was done. It was just so incredible with the timing and the music and the silence of the performer. Great act!!
true dat
It was perfect!!
“Yeah, but where’d the smoke come from?”
GOB
I’ve watched in amazement hours upon hours of magic. I’ve attempted to exhaust the magic available on RUclips.
I have never seen anything come close to this guy!!
Bravo sir! Bravo!
Then you haven't watched enought... Go look Juan Tamariz.
Every second, every beat, every move of your hand, every special effect is so smooth, so incredible

Who else is watching this after 4 years and thinking how awesome this was
Me
Toats me HAHHAHA
4 years ago it was truly AWESOME;now it's just nice..
Just saw this. I could see most of his tricks, just watch his hands carefully and always. If he's right hand is hyper active, the trick is on the left.
I remember watching him win AGT season 13 and also the AGT the champions as well
Honestly, I feel like this collection of tricks, “the dream act”, is a performance that P&T were perfectly fine with being fooled by.
Well said!!
wait is it actually called the dream act? That would explain the Inception theme playing lol
The atmosphere is huge, he’s wearing red and black, and the red and black trippy movements behind him only add to his performance. I’ve seen better illusions but I don’t think I’ve seen a better performance.
@@thatdsiguy8919 yes. Shin lim sell it on his website i think.
I seen this years ago and was as astonished as everybody else. And the Hans Zimmer - Inception music works and fits in amazingly well with the magic he's doing. Completely Flawless.
the music just takes this act to a whole other level, amazing
@nusic Han Zimmer - time
legends say, penn and teller still thinking about how he vanishes the marker
@JUB G he ment the second time he made it disapear
Idk how they didn’t figure that out it was super easy
@JUB G lmao no....just no
Vayne main maybe they dont have a pause and advance frame by frame .... all you idiots think its so easy to see but on the momment with all thats going on , i dare you little smart asses to catch something live. Magic was never meant to be on video
i saw what he did with the pen on both occasions.. I think they did as well but because the whole act was so beautifully put together they felt he deserved the win
The Inception music always makes me emotional
I thought it was from Interstellar?
Le Schtroumpf nope it's Inception
Emma Sivan ah my bad then
Emma Sivan what is the soundtrack from 2:30
Because you have a vagina. You can't even control the most basic of human emotions.
I've read a few of slight of hand books and met some magicians at conventions that were super good and learned some cool stuff from them. When I watch Shin Lim though I can think of ways to do many of the tricks he does, but he does everything so smoothly that it's all just theory. I can't find any obvious palms or anything like that and all of his movements are so fluid. It's nuts.
My Fool Us marathon just ended with a bang. Damn fine work Mr. Lim.
dennis h
i dont care what you say this shit is 100% real magic
Skel etor yeah, and god exist right...
Then its now shit is it???
Skel etor Well obviously it is not "real magic" there is no such thing. It is sleight of hand among other things.
afrojavix Denying the existence of God further opens up the idea that magic is real than it does in helping to deny it
Skel etor Hey i recognize you! What do neutrino and i have in common?
This is the only magic performance I've ever seen that was so lyrical and moving that it brought a tear to my eye. Just beautiful. I used to buy tricks to learn how they were done and I've spent a lot of time reading about the craft of magic and card manipulation but with Shin Lim I don't even care how he does them all, even though I can tell some of it, because it's more rewarding to just sit back and let this artistry touch the soul.
He’s not the best sleight of hand of all time, but this performance as a whole might be the best.
@@dfetz3 I don't think there's any such thing as the best of all time with regard to this skill set (I could nominate a number of people for that title and make an argument for each - and see other people vehemently disagree ) but you and I would appear to agree that this performance is about as good as it gets.
This is one of my favorite acts ever. I'm not usually into card tricks, but as person, who loves sleight of hand tricks, it's so well done and without all of that talking and babbling. So beautiful and elegant.
