My husband and I have eleven children.I thought I was the only mother who fed my children Hamburger gravy. At the time it was a very budget friendly meal. That's when hamburger was .99$ a pound. That was in the 1990's .You're the first I have seen on RUclips to make this. I was thrilled to see you make it. 🥰

It’s so funny watching you cook. I was so happy that you used a spatula to scrap out every last drop of eggs. A girl after my OCD heart. It drives me crazy to see people cook and leave half of the food in the bowl. I guess it because my grandma taught me how to cook. She was raised in the depression and didn’t waste anything.

OMG, some of the chefs on the cooking channels drive me crazy not scraping out a bowl! Between that and never touching the food with their hands (best tools in the kitchen), I’ve written off shows ten minutes into it, I can’t tolerate watching it. 😊

Hamburger gravy is what we always called poor man's SOS. For sweet and sour pork, I add a eighth of a teaspoon ginger and a tablespoon or two of apple cider vinegar. I had no idea I could freeze the hamburger gravy. Seems like I learn something new everytime I watch you.

My dad is a retired truck driver (and Air Force Veteran). I used to love going on the road with him. I'd spend my summers with him in the truck, driving all over the US. Truck Stops have upped their health game, because I remember those greasy buffets! They were always delicious, but not good for the body that's for sure. Those burgers and breakfast sandwiches look so delicious!

I would gladly be your "sous chef", would wash all the dishes and make you coffee as needed! Thank you, thank you so much for sharing all of your knowledge, delicious dishes and joyful cooking with all of us! God bless you and your family, always! Sincerely, Mrs. Meggie Ulrich, San Diego, CA

I'm truly happy to hear that you're getting a stove with more burners. You will just love it! I, too, went to a little rural school and we had fabulous lunch ladies. There were only two women and most classes probably had 15-20 kids. I loved hamburger gravy over a scoop of mashed potatoes. They also made beef gravy from cans of meat that the government gave them. It might not sound good but most of us really loved it, I love hearing your stories.

My grandma was a Lunch Lady in the grade school in Falls City, Oregon. She taught me to cook on a woodfire cook stove. She used to say cookin with and old stove like that was it was like drivin a stick shift, you operate that you can operate anything. She was chief cook and bottle washer up there. They didn't have the lunch menu's you see today so Gramma made her own based off the Salem/Keizer School Dist. template at the time. But all her stuff was homemade and in my stuff in storage I have all of her recipes. Over 100 people attended her funeral. Mostly family but there were the kids that grew up on her cookin at the grade school and when she cooked for them at Camp Kilowen that attended as well and they all told their stories. They all called her Aunt B.

I raw packed pork loin and canned it, for quick shredded pork sandwiches, on days I didn't feel up up cooking. I also canned BBQ sauce to put over the shredded pork!
I did the same with chicken, but added carrots and onion, to have a base for chicken pot pie or chicken n noodles soup! I was so glad to have it to put into a crockpot, with chicken stock and noodles, when I was down with COVID for two weeks!

Renea. I went to a brand new two story brick school building for 12 years. All the grades were in one building. There were 25 in my graduating class. Our lunches were great. My Mother was one of the cooks in our cafeteria all during my school years and beyond. No prepared mixes all was from scratch. Great meals. I woked in the lunch room from 7th grade till I graduated. First helping with the dishes and later counting. The money for the day for the lunches. When we worked, we got our lunches free. I got to keep my lunch money. I am 88 now.

Just watched a video on energy saving appliances…one was an oven, then a crock pot and third a instant pot….
Winner was the instant pot….cheapest way to cook…I have an 8 qrt and a 12 qrt which I use almost everyday. Large batches in 12 qrt and it can hold two chickens. They’ve have been a blessing whenever I need a fast meal or heat up left overs.
Tougher cuts of meats cook tender. A dozen of eggs no problem. A 5 lb bag of potatoes done in 6 min…..Squash done in no time..I love mine❤

Could you do a video about how many weeks or months you freeze your foods for, for instance the egg, sausage and cheese muffins you’ve made and burgers, and mashed potatoes, pies, and other foods. My school was much like yours. My Aunt used to work in the kitchen and some of the best recipes she made at home were school recipes cut into at least eighths for a large 'home' recipe! But the food was so yummy! My no bake cookie recipe came from her, that was the first place we ever had those! I live in a bigger town 10 miles from home now and the difference in the meals when my son went were huge (he was my surprise baby 12 years after his sister!). All pre-made meals now. They were a blessing when schools had to close though by giving meals out, even all through the summer.

Seeing you wearing your apron makes me want to thank you for the link. My apron like that came yesterday and it is fantastic. I can put it on and take it off without help...arthritis. Thanks again.

I found a little meat market where my grandkids live and oh my goodness how much better the meats are than what I've been getting at the grocery store. Sales occasionally too.

I grew up on hamburger gravy. It was not served or at least I don't remember...we only had hot lunch in elementary school and junior high which were in the same building. High school was in a different building and we had to bring our own lunches.
But my dad loved hamburger gravy and mom made it often....yum!!

The lunch ladies at my grade school made baked spaghetti.
I have been making it for years.

Love hamburger gravy. I like to have it over fried potatoes, and sometimes green beans. I haven't had it in quite awhile but your video has made me hungry for it again.

My daughter's boyfriend is a truck driver and every couple weeks he has me make a bunch of blt sandwiches, but I pack the tomatoes separately so the sandwich doesn't get soggy. He gets a bunch of fresh fruit cups and celery and carrot sticks, apple slices and sometimes meatloaf sandwiches. He is diabetic so he said it helped him eat better. I'm taking one of your tips and making a few meat loaves to put in the freezer, also cooking up a bunch of meatballs and a couple pans of lasagna plus 5 pounds of taco meat and 5 pounds of chili meat. I love having meals that are easy to put together. I love seeing all the things you make. I never thought to make muffin sandwiches for the freezer. Thank you for all the videos!!

The Iron Skillet LoL or a Denny's,, or pizza and chicken wings. Or the rotisserie bar, hot dogs, hours old breakfast sandwich or hamburgers unless you were lucky enough to be there when they brought out fresh ones. They have improved some with salads and fruit, and tuna sandwiches, some even have fried chicken, mashed potatoes green beans,.Hubby still prefers me to cook his meals, every once in a while he'll go in for rubber steak dinner, and instantly regret it, Covid brought about a lot of changes for them unfortunately. But I don't mind cooking for a couple of days to make sure he's eating healthy.Hes out 3 to 4 weeks at a time. Thank goodness for mini fridge and, microwave and air fryer/ toaster oven and the all important coffee maker.Thank you for all you do and share xxx
