- Henry Buckley and J.J Harding from Jobs Post Ltd are looking for a 10% share in exchange for a £50,000 investment. Their company is a direct marketing company in London that focuses on leaflet distribution with a twist.
An international sensation, Dragon's Den features entrepreneurs pitching for investment in the Den from our Dragons, five venture capitalists willing to invest their own money in exchange for equity.

I don't think expansion is what they were looking for. They were growing, they needed someone who knows how to better manage 200+ employees with systems and a person whose face they could use for marketing. So low share and money is what they wanted, and they got it

That guy was smooth when one of the dragons asked if he was only good at sales and he said "I'm excellent at everything I do". Really said it with confidence, and I think everyone in the room believed him.

If we were excellent at everything then we wouldn't be making mistakes which are impossible to avoid and help to improve our lives. The more mistakes you make the more success you can have.

Anyone familiar with this industry will tell you that a major issue companies run into is non delivery of the leaflets.

Can someone explain the business better to me? They jog through the city and put ads in mailboxes? How is that different than sending an ad to all of the homes thru the regular mail?
Usually companies don’t mail ads through the post office. They hire people to go around distributing leaflets because it’s cheaper. The business model these two are pitching makes very little sense though because:
(1) they’re not going to force their workers to run, and if they do nobody will want to work for them. Who wants to be forced to run around all day for minimum wage?
(2) Running from door to door makes no sense. Houses are usually close together, so you’re going to run for 2 seconds from driveway to driveway before slowing down and respectfully walking up to the door? And if they’re planning to distribute these leaflets in London flats, nobody will want to run around in the high-rise buildings.

Why is it always 33 and a third %? Can't they just say a third of the company?
Because a third of the business doesn't really exist, it would be 33.333333333333 going on forever. So they say 33.3%.
@@PortlandMan though in reality the Dragon’s say they want an equal share so they actually do want 33.3 recurring. 33.3 would give the Dragon slightly less of a share than the 2 guys. It’s all pedantics though I suppose.

Peter's not wrong though. With four dragons making offers at a range of 20-33%, there was definitely scope to negotiate. I'm surprised they didn't give it a go.

It always annoys me when they don’t ask any of the dragons to adjust their offers. They may have got the others to come down to 20 or 25%

Yeah, Deborah made a super competitive offer and I think they worried she might withdraw it if they tried to negotiate with the others. Negotiation seems to go a lot smoother when the offers are closer in value, because when one Dragon is offering a standout deal they tend to get huffy when their “generosity” is ignored. Asking for such low equity compared to the others makes me think Deborah knew her portfolio wouldn’t be able to compete, but a lot of entrepreneurs will take less experience over giving away more of their business so it’s a fine strategy on her part.
The company liquidated in late 2021.

There is no innovation in logistics, regardless of which 3PL is tooting this self-aggrandising PR bs. Amazon boasts about its Prime Next and Same Delivery, however, a hefty portion is thanks to low waged multi drop couriers from Eastern Europe who work 10-12 hrs a day for £140-170 (including mileage compensation). Every single one of these couriers are 3 strikes away from going into administration. The consumers are dazzled by the glossy front end design and those in the industry drink the koolAid, that’s how climb the ladder.

Discouraged that making sure employees do A job reached this level of distrust . Not blaming Employers . Perhaps , Parenting , or Lack of Values taught in Society ? Self Worth confused with Self Absorbed ?
One of the common complaints from dissatisfied clients is that they don’t believe their flyers got delivered, because they either got no new business from a distribution or people they know in the target zone claim they never received a flyer. The company is just covering themselves for that kind of complaint.
They should have brought Deb down to 10%, then she would have countered with 15%, deal.
