- The product is the brainchild of British inventor Chris Haines, the Safe-T-Light is a rechargeable LED torch that switches on automatically if the electricity fails. Chris seeks £95,000 in return for a 10% equity stake.
An international sensation, Dragon's Den features entrepreneurs pitching for investment in the Den from our Dragons, five venture capitalists willing to invest their own money in exchange for equity.

Who would have thought Einstein is actually still alive and running an emergency torchlight company
Was literally scrolling looking to see if someone would comment on that😂😂😂😂
Einstein had much better hair!
Einstein could not even hold a candle up to Nikola Tesla!!!!
Cheers.
I thought it was Des Lynam

“Well if the power goes out, I’d just have my indentured servant ride a bicycle to power a generator wouldn’t I?” - Peter Jones, understander of the common man
And the reason this indentured servant is indentured is because Peter owns 420% of all his companies and his grandma
🤣
😂😂
;-D
So when the power goes off, this thing turns on automatically, and is fully charged.
Meanwhile, Peter is stumbling around in the dark, trying to find his light, which has dead batteries because it's been sitting around for a year.
You should have been selling it to them, you'd have done a much better job than this guy, he's a lousy salesman.
or just takes his iphone and uses flashlight.
@@teaja211 that’s if he finds his iPhone first
@@cekojuna6930 there are smartphones with indicators. My samsung has one.
Same thing I said. Peter is missing the point.
Peter Jones completely missed the point - it's a nightlight but mainly an always-fully-charged torch that is instantly locatable and available.
Totally. Looking for a torch when the light suddenly goes out and you haven't had to find one in a long time is quite a pain in the behind
No I think he got that just fine, but like he said, there's already nightlight like that, Peter said he has them and so do I. They stay plugged in and always charged, but I can unplug them and walk the house with them
@@MineSpeak44 This. There's no point in investing in the product because there are already products like it that will do the exact same thing without having to plug it into the wall. It's ultimately unnecessary. Definitely too much of a risk to advertise in different countries.
He didn't "miss the point" of the product. His point is that it's too easily overshadowed. You're basically paying more for this product when something similar already exists and is more convenient.
1:25 Richard writes "need light to find torch in the dark"
Peter completely misunderstood how it worked which really annoyed me since he didn't even fight it
Dragon's Den should take Peter's puns and add them to the end of random episodes just to confuse everyone
That sounds like a terrible idea and for that reason I'm out.
not the brightest of ideas
No they should not

Sad to see what's happened to Basil Fawlty. He's not been the same since Fawlty Towers closed down :(
This is the comment of the day for me. 🤣
I was thinking Albert Einstein
@@williamhumberhawk8187 I was thinking John Cleese and Albert Einstein fused together.
Don't Mention the spanish market ! He mentioned it once and i think he got away with it !
I like the way Chris manages to stay calm under scrutiny.
He seems like a lovely man. I’d love to be his friend and go for a walk in Richmond park with him and get an ice cream.
Maybe get a hotel room with some baby oil too

For the last two months I have been completely engaged into Dragons Dens ... I just can't pull myself out of this , I have huge exams coming up but I'm just gonna say to my examiners , " I'm out "
Good luck with the exams 👍 💪
Same! Cant stop watching them. Hopefully my business exam goes well 😅
Good laugh 😂 😂😂😂😂
how did the exams go?
Absolutely a great product for a specific market. My elderly mum would have one in every room.
I can see a bit of a design flaw, though.
Most wall sockets are close to the ground, except in the kitchen. So if you're elderly or have physical disabilities, you have to reach down quite far to pick up the torch.
My mum wouldn't be able to do that, for example.
Peter: "i've got concerns with this product, and for that reason, i'm doubt"
I've seen these used in hotels around the world for at least the last 7 years.
So either this is a really old pitch or it's not such an original idea.
I do think the dragons missed the point about the light turning on automatically during a power outage. Rather than you fumbling around to find it and turn it on, in the dark.
This episode is probably 15 years old at the least.
If you think Deborah Meaden looks like that now then you need to go look up some pictures boa..
Its old when its the stairs and not a lift up to the dragons
This episode was recorded just after Jesus Christ was born. You're late mah dude.
@@bobbobbinson1841 Boa?? You into snakes bruv??
Let me just say this. We have similar, smaller torches like this here in Florida and we’ve got them around the house. They were invaluable when we had our power cut through hurricane Ian. The power went out but the torches were fully charged and still provided light for us to find them then use them around the house. The ones we use aren’t battery operated
I'm glad you mentioned that. They are common here in Japan too. Countries that experience natural disasters have a need for these items. Earthquakes, volcanoes (even if far away, ash will short the power), hurricanes/typhoons...we have all of these in Japan and far too frequently.
Des Lynam’s looking well these days!
Haha.. was just about to comment the same, but you beat me to it :-D
Thats a great product actually we have purchased something similar and with diff sizes larger and smaller, its very helpful during power outages
Agreed great product, but trivial to copy so not a good business unless you have stout IP protections.
Which this guy obviously didn't, since you and I both have a bunch of them, and none of them made by "SafeTLight".
@@moredots He knew that and was trying to cater it more towards elderly people , that's why he went with the " Safetlight" approach
I was wondering what Des Lynam had been doing since he left Motd
If I were Peter and I looked back on these episodes I would be ashamed at how snide and arrogant I was.
And rich and successful. He should definitely be ashamed of these things.
@@BertBobRobert Doing what he set out to do. Which is be Mega rich and self important.
He actually achieved his dream. However, his aim wasn't to be kind and nice, so, yeah, he's successful at what he wanted to do.
We have torches in our pockets now, how times have changed.
I'm holding one right now, lol
It's not meant for you, it's for old people who mostly wouldn't have a smartphone, or even if they do they might not be able to use the torch function.
@@thunderb00m It's also a 10 - 15 year old pitch 🤷🏻♂️
@@thunderb00m Old people managed with candles during the war and blackouts and they have plenty of time on their hands to prepare for this stuff , its not gonna finnish them off if the lights go out lol
This guy held his ground well and raised excellent points, and his product is great for certain people too.
I feel very happy for this man.
Peter/Deborah/Theo/Duncan/Richard was the best Dragon's Den panel lineup ever
:)
You left Jenny out.

7:39 - 7:40 = Peter Jones is like "Don't even think about making an offer Deborah".
Seems like his own product has damaged his eyes-he won't stop blinking! ROFL!🤣🤣🤣
Peter always seems to miss the point of products. This has plenty of advantages over a simple battery powered night light. But he was too stubborn to change his view.
I just can't get over the fact that Des Lynam has gone from the BBC to lighting up a tent
They seemed to have failed, it is out of stock on amazon and no posts from him since 2020, also there seem to be very many similar products offered instead in Amazon
Yep I've got a bunch, not made by this company. Plug in emergency lighting with removable flashlight is pretty trivial to design and produce.
He had a great idea (if he was the first), but with nothing to protect it.
If you Google safetlight you can see they are very much still around just the design has changed
@@sunmoonstar124 Not really no... they have a very badly designed website that doesn't even have it's own domain name and it's copyright is from 2010 he licensed it to one company in 2008 but then was selling it himself up to 2019 on Amazon and then nothing, with stock not expected to return, his deal with the dragons fell through by the way and they never invested
@@wynwilliams6977 With wind up torches and smartphones battery power getting better and better this kind of " Tech " is just old fashioned , gimmick if anything.
Peter was taking utter bullshit
This thing works on a sensor that recognizes the darkness ( no light input ) and glows automatically... you don't have to go to it and touch it to switch it on ...
I guess the entrepreneur got totally unnerved by Peter's stupidly rude behavior...
I just bought one of these for the server room at work.
10:54 they need a night light on those stairs "take care", almost final words.
Such a calm bloke. Reminds me of Des Lynam
Are Richard and Theo saying that you can't trust the Spanish? 😂
When it comes to bussiness or work , no you cannot , unless you have an extra year and 6 months to hand for waiting. lol
I liked the product, once I had a power cut and I couldn't find my torch and when I found it the batteries had died.
That's just bad planning though isn't it , if you can leave a torch somewhere you remember , whats stopping you leaving a few extra batteries beside it lol ?
Jones and the Fetus are so pointlessly aggressive at times. And Jones totally missed the point.
“The Fetus” lol.
“Jones and the Fetus” sounds like an amazing band.
Was wondering what Des Lynam did after Match of the Day.
I was trying to work out who he reminded me of...
Enstein.
These, or a variation thereof, are pretty much a standard feature in condominiums here in Japan. I'm not sure whether they are a legal requirement or not for condominiums (aka 'mansions') above a certain number of households or not, but they are common. You won't necessarily find them in small rental apartment buildings (usually less than 10 households). Actually, Richard is wrong. These kinds of products will sell more in countries that experience natural disasters like earthquakes, which is one reason why Japan fits them.
He’s got that Des Lynham look about him. Lol
Looks like a had a rough go John Cleese 😆

Living in the English countryside we're always having unexpected power cuts and are unable to find a torch in the dark obviously! Would love one of these tbh
