Did you get a new GPU? That MiG-29 looks beautiful at the beginning. I've always had a liking for Soviet and later Russian aircraft. It gives off a steam punk-ish sorta feel to it. Plus the allure of "bad guy" element a lot of people enjoy.
Hello! Still the same GPU, I'm waiting for the crypto-currency market to crash and bring the prices of graphic card to reasonable levels again 😁 Maybe it's just better editing or filters. I agree that Russian aircraft have a certain level of cool about them. The world of military aviation would be much less interesting without them.
We have recently learner that Ukrainian Mig-29s still have the 1980s radar, which is less powerful than the Russian mig-29 radars as Russia had kept their aircraft somewhat modernised. The Su-27 radar already is more powerful than the mid-29s. So it's very possible that the Su-27 purchased off Russia in the late 90s is far superior to the mig-29s purchased of Ukraine.
At the time of the war, i did read in Air Forces Monthly than the russians deploy in Ethiopia two Kamov Ka-50, the one pilot version......Tom Cooper say something, do you read about it???

Some of them did actually fly., but in a more defensive role. Apparently, one Russian Mi-24 pilot was captured by Eritreans. But as for these direct encounters, it seems they were flown by actual Ethiopians and Eritreans.
My Great Uncle was Leutnant General in Nova Gradiska '91-96. I also have high ranking Uncle '99 in the Serbian family. I spoke wit both & they told me, the MIG-29 is made to dogfight. U wait for the enemy to come close, idealy position ur 29 behind a mountain & fly straigh up, forcing the enemy into a dogfight. If 29 is used at BVR: useless.
@@showtime112 even Serbs did the same. Thy saw a pair of enemy jets & went to face them. I was told privately it was to send Serb soldiers on the ground & the enemy the same message: Air Force is flying no matter the odds. But why not do it right. They cud place the robust 29 on roads. Arm it with 2 short range AAM. Wait for the enemy to appear directly above the MIG & shoot up like a dart. Fire & disappear.
@@showtime112 I think thats gons be Russias tactic in a show down vs NATO. "Hide" MIG 29/35. Face the enemy with a SU-X, even the newest MIG-31. AA missiles seems to be realy realy unreliable, the age, the handling is a factor, and they are complex. DCS is not even close to irl, in DCS ppl just launch 10s of missiles like its free and every missile works. Even Aim9/AMRAAM In Syria failed a while back.
I am impressed by how well Eritrea did in that war being 4 years old country at that time their economy wasn't even that good I mean their GDP was 688.9 million USD at that time, and Ethiopian had every advantage to annihilate Eritrea's military but that didn't happen. the way I see it the war was useless Eritrea lost over 19,000 of it soldiers and Ethiopia lost 2 billion dollars and over 123,000 of its soldiers only the court to rule Badme belonged to Eritrea which was the main point of the war.
Basically, there should always be a better way than starting a war. I wonder how the court would have ruled had there never been a war between them. And would there have been a court to decide it.
Eritrean government's report of a total of 19,000 Eritrean soldiers dead is false. Both Ethiopia and Eritrea suffered over a 100,000 dead. Eritrea had lost this war, even though Badme was recognized as Eritrean territory, it was still unfortunately under Ethiopian control until November 2020 when the Tigray War broke out. It was a senseless war but still a humiliating defeat for Eritrea.

Ertira took one of the largest ammunition depot when they left Ethiopia, and a big part of the Ethiopian calvery That's why they managed to fight that long but over all Ethiopia didn't have a functioning army at the time too
You need to know the whole story! Eritrea gain independence because Ethiopian government were overthrown and crippled by the Eritrean government now but earlier was a rabble in Ethiopia. Rabbles fought each other over the benefits! there wasn't any regular army at time. In Ethiopia side farmers lost their life in mass!
I know that's the hot new topic but it's probably not gonna happen before the end of the war. Detailed and reliable info is hard to find so any video would be 90% guesswork.
There probably wouldn't have been any direct conflict if you mean the current situation. Ukraine would almost certainly avoid using their air force much, similar to Georgians in 2008.

Su-27 is generally somewhat more capable but if I remember well, they carried extended range missiles while the MiGs had the 'ordinary' ones. That gave the Sukhois a significant advantage in battles where the pilots were mostly shooting missiles from max range.
My country used to have MiG-29s armed with R-27 missiles, those pilots were either complete idiots or those missiles are as good as jettisoned fuel tank.
I'm guessing, Ethiopians had R-27ER missiles while Eritreans only had shorter range R-27R. Also, that destruction of Eritrean radar station played a big role because they were lacking situational awareness after that.
I'm still wondering where did Showtime 112 get this info from. These 2 videos not only undermine the work of Eritrean airforce but lacks objectivity and its completely biased. These 2 videos exaggerate the work of Ethiopian airforce despite their many years existence. As an Eritrean I was exasperated to see that the operation carried by the renowned pilot Commander Tesfatsion in retaliation for Ethiopian airforce offence in Asmara were not well presented as his bravery and mission in annihilating the Mekele airport along with the fighter jets ain't well articulated in these videos too.The Eritrean pilots Captain Yonas and Captain Samuel didn't die in air to air combat but rather by the missiles shot from the antiaircraft. Moreover, the Ethiopian air force suffered substantial damage in our 30 years and long fought struggle for our independence. Honestly speaking the Ethiopian airforce is not that competent. Otherwise our independence wouldn't be achieved if you think that the Ethiopian airforce was that strong in helping the ground offence when the Eritreans had at that time neither the airforce nor the sovereignty .But if you say that the Ethiopian public airlines has been doing exceptional work I couldn't agree more.
Dejen himself is saying that he and Yonas been attacked by ground missile batteries in his interviews and of course in the last battles of the war there was a push by Ethiopian troops so that makes you say that the Ethiopian Air force had upper hand on the skies. Since the war was held for two years, I find it difficult to understand in demonstrating that both sides had intensive battle to take Air space superiority in this period of time but regarding the last part of the war in May 12 to June 14 of the year 2000 mainly known 3rd Ethiopian offensive, it doesn't show the Eritrean resistance. I agree that the Ethiopian side had better experience, gear and apparatus. With all advantages what makes the Ethiopian fighter jets scare the Eritrean space for two years indeed topped casualties and losses.
Well, they were mostly fired from maximum range and often against low level targets. R-27 is the Russian Sparrow. Even late model Sparrows were quite unreliable in Desert Storm for example.
@@showtime112 R27's radar was bad and the scan FPS is too low to track targets and always missing target if get close. And this missile is too big and the drag makes it loosing speed very quickly. This misslie was designed to kill bombers, not fighters. And China Air Force said tha even R77 still hard to track a mobile target like fighters.
There are many external factors. They had shorter range missiles and Eritrean side lost a lot of situational awareness after the loss of that ground radar.
These are biased and narrated from Ethiopia side. You don't mentioned the Air combat 1999 when Ethiopian MiG 27 hit on the Western front by Eritrean pilot and the Mig 23 and 21 Ethiopia lost by anti Aircraft Missiles and the Helicopters destroyed and one when hit by anti Air craft the Ethiopian pilot landed and escaped, but you didn't mentioned. Why don't write the history as it is why from one side. And I am suspicious about the one pilot you are mentioning who is from Tigrai TPLF.
And another 'you are biased because my country wasn't depicted awesomely enough' comment. If I had a dollar for each one, I wouldn't exactly be rich but I'd have a couple of hundred dollars more 🤣
@@showtime112 Don't mind these clowns 😂. Eritrea's government basically tries to rewrite history to conceal its humiliating defeat in this war by making up fictitious victories and trying to make it seem that Eritrea won the war. Eritreans always get butthurt when they realize how poorly their country did in the war. This chauvinism is all because of Eritrea's victory in its war of independence, which consequently gave a chauvinistic image of Eritrea that made it look like it was unbeatable and a force to be reckoned with.

I remember the supersonic SU 27 shuttered many windows in Asmara. It is with super heavy sound
Thank you for sharing your experience!
Interesting. A conflict you don't hear too much about.
Yeah. Two poor counties, no oil.
It seems that the main advantage for the Ethiopians were ER missiles with longer range than the ones Eritreans had.
Sad to see our family fighting against each other but so is the business of war...
It's a rare occurrence 😁
At the time of the war, i did read in Air Forces Monthly than the russians deploy in Ethiopia two Kamov Ka-50, the one pilot version......Tom Cooper say something, do you read about it???
There's no specific mention of it in the book. I suppose he couldn't find any confirmation or perhaps found evidence that it never happened.
@@showtime112 Even at the time i did have serious doubts.....perhaps a "Urban Legend".
"Give me a Fulcrum, and I will move the whole world!" -Aristotle
I guess Eritreans never read Aristotle 😁
Great 2nd part!!! I also know the Internet story about the female pilot. Though I believed it was true😲 I hope you can film some combat about the Cuban Air Expedition Regiment on Angola with their MiG23's against southafrican Mirages F1
Thanks! I definitely intend to cover the F1 vs MiG-23 when we get those modules in DCS. The Mirage should be available soon but MiG-23 will probably wait a bit longer.
@@showtime112 yeah man thatd be cool. Hehe maybe you can do a test on Thirdwires SF2. Though I know that combat sim is kinda arcade.
Wow, government non-adaptivity and political myopia, combined with themselves suffering no consequences for their actions is a thing in Eritrea too.
Yeah, seems to be. Apparently, the president was micromanaging the war a lot and thinking he knew better that his generals. I think he even fired a chief of staff who disagreed with him about something.
🇪🇹 had support from western nations thats how they got advanced jets they even had Ukrainian mercenaries opertaing their jets . Yet they lost 300k+ soldiers while 🇪🇷 recieving no aids being a recent nation lost 19k and repelled a nation of 80+million ppl from annexing it.

As for population size ethiopia right now its 110 million 2nd largest in africa. While Eritrea is 4-5 million.

Thank you for the comment. The current events will be in the focus at some point. Currently, it is very hard to find precise and confirmed information but I'll observe the situation.
Yes the R-27 is that unreliable, apparently its like the old sparrow where the shooter has to keep the target locked until it hits. The very last models were fire and forget but not back here. Imteresting conflict
It seems that both sides were launching them from maximum range and missiles tend to be less reliable under such conditions.
pls post video of ethiopian female su-27 pilot shoot down his master's mig 29
That story is quite questionable. In the book about this conflict by Tom Cooper, there's no mention of it.
Still wonder what happens after landing...
Have ever create a video about Falkland war ...there was definitely a lot of fighter jet action there .
Not yet. There's the Falklands map being developed for DCS so I'm waiting for it to be released. It's not just the map but it will include many assets from that war, especially ships.
@@showtime112 that would be great 👍👍
Wasn't there some speculation that this was Russian v Ukraine pilots?
Yes, the 29 is much better at close range. It seems like Eritrean pilots lacked sufficient training to employ their aircraft that way.
At the right time order the MIG29s to fly up straight & squeez the enemy front & underneath. Maybe let the 29/35 fly slightly up & behing them, to avoid fleeing. Its such a great weapon for dog fighting. Forget long range radar for 29&35. The intended role is perfeft & has no equal.
Are these AA missiles soo unreliable, as they failed to hit even though the migs didnt deploy countermeasures.
They might have used countermeasures. Exact details are unknown. But yes, in reality missiles are far less effective than in simulations.
AA missiles seems to be realy realy unreliable, the age, the handling is a factor, and they are complex. DCS is not even close to irl, in DCS ppl just launch 10s of missiles like its free and every missile works.
Even Aim9/AMRAAM In Syria failed a while back.
Some thing is smoking in your explanation .with all the respeckt please correct it with what realy happened.
And what would that be exactly?
@@drjacob2276 the 19,000 is not wrong, go read the UN article, the government of Eritrea pays the parent who lost their sons in the war and based on that they confirmed 19,000 soldiers who died second I never said Eritrea win the war I said the court give Badme to Eritrea based the 1882 borderline and since the war was about Badme Eritrea basically win for Eritrea because those sacrifices were for noting, and about Tigray war, I don't think Eritreain got a humiliating defeat first because they were supporting Ethiopian force second when Ethiopian had full control of Tigray and when they were leaving Tigray region Eritrean force were celebrating I can send you the videos if you want it is in Ethiopian channels. it seems though your comments are from the Western media while mine is from both countries' media and the UN.
Ertira took one of the largest ammunition depot when they left Ethiopia, and a big part of the Ethiopian calvery
That's why they managed to fight that long but over all Ethiopia didn't have a functioning army at the time too
You need to know the whole story! Eritrea gain independence because Ethiopian government were overthrown and crippled by the Eritrean government now but earlier was a rabble in Ethiopia. Rabbles fought each other over the benefits! there wasn't any regular army at time. In Ethiopia side farmers lost their life in mass!

True. A bit rare unless both nations are ex-Soviet Union.

They are interesting. Although not so numerous compared to some older fighters. Thanks for your suggestion!
Russian Air Force v/s Ukrainian Air Force could have been an interesting subject 🤔
There probably wouldn't have been any direct conflict if you mean the current situation. Ukraine would almost certainly avoid using their air force much, similar to Georgians in 2008.
It actually happned in ethiopian-eritriean war. The Su-27 was piloted by russians and the mig 29 was piloted by ukrainians.

@@showtime112 Ask more specification special to the eritrean air force
The story is not accurate though.
Does this mean Sukhois are better than migs?
Su-27 is generally somewhat more capable but if I remember well, they carried extended range missiles while the MiGs had the 'ordinary' ones. That gave the Sukhois a significant advantage in battles where the pilots were mostly shooting missiles from max range.
Amazing Ethiopia❤
Both side using mercenary pilots.
Sell all your aircraft if you can't hang with the Ethiopian Air Forces...lol
My country used to have MiG-29s armed with R-27 missiles, those pilots were either complete idiots or those missiles are as good as jettisoned fuel tank.
They were not really complete idiots but rather, only received the most basic training.
@@showtime112 I'd have to think firing these missiles requires little training, but I guess they might've received even less.

Nabavili su 12 komada nakon prve faze rata, potkraj 1998.
Why not ?
Is the Su-27 that superior to the mig-29 or it was more a training difference.
ALL because the R60 missile cant damage targets. MiG-29 is much more better than Su-27.
I'm guessing, Ethiopians had R-27ER missiles while Eritreans only had shorter range R-27R. Also, that destruction of Eritrean radar station played a big role because they were lacking situational awareness after that.
ER/ETs have longer range then R variant of R27. He who shoots first always has the advantage.
@@TheGranicd That seems to have been a huge factor.
The SU-27 always was superior to the MiG-29 by design!

Am an Eritrean and am a free man . My parents died so that I can leave. full price paid
Sources are always listed in the video description. What are your sources?
Odlično 👍
Hvala na komentaru!
Moral of the story- russian missiles are crap
Well, they were mostly fired from maximum range and often against low level targets. R-27 is the Russian Sparrow. Even late model Sparrows were quite unreliable in Desert Storm for example.

@@showtime112 R27's radar was bad and the scan FPS is too low to track targets and always missing target if get close. And this missile is too big and the drag makes it loosing speed very quickly. This misslie was designed to kill bombers, not fighters.
And China Air Force said tha even R77 still hard to track a mobile target like fighters.
Aster did score that victory you just wont admit it cause shes a woman
Apparently, mig29's are great sitting ducks.
