I've been hankering for a Pistol Crossbow recently as my first one and was nearly sold on the EK Cobra. I saw a lot of people mention the Redback as a great option for the same sort of money so i thought id check it out. This video convinced me in the first few minutes, the safety features are much better and its all around a much more complete package, and i'm a lefty so ambi safety appeals to me. I'd be uneasy loading the Cobra seeing the lack of dryfire safety..
One thing about the aluminium cobra is the steel side rails that come with it. Those side rails can be made so the string rides primarily on those rails. Combined with a monofilament serving the performance boost is significant. The original aluminium cobra, because of its metal body, has massive potential to be taken to levels plastic can only dream of.
It's awesome how they improved on the old cobra models they use to only have a draw weight of 47lbs now the ek archery model cobra has a draw weight of 63 lbs. Vastly improved might I add and places it in the same power category as a Tron and just below models like the alligator and tomcat 2.
Great comparison video Mike, I’ll be honest I was surprised when the older style crossbow pulled 63lbs I thought it would of been around 40 or something that ain’t bad. You could really see the redback is on another level in the power tests.
Buying a second cobra limb and doubling up has been done. It's not advices with the red back due to it's power. It could cause structural failure at 150 lbs of draw force. But at 120 to 130 it's within specs still.
My problem with the cobra is after some use the plastic rail the cocking aid sits in and runs through to pull the string back has wore away and doesn't sit anymore i need to put the cocking lever on the ground and manually push and set the string with my hands. Do not get the plastic one maybe the metal one would be better but i think it's a design flaw.
I've just bought a redback and there is a small black plastic plate that slots into the safety gear, but i can't actually see what it does. Due to health ive not yet been able to take it out and fire it yet. Any idea what the disk does? I assume its a safety feature, but not sure if it prevents a misfire when fitted or removed. Your blos are great, thnks.
Thank you for the great comparison! Bought my Redback (repeater) recently and I'm loving it! Also considering buying another two single shots for myself and a girlfirend, I like it that much! Pro's for the Reback vs Cobra, Better safety, More power, Much better sight (Cobra's are just cheap crap), Picatinny rails, Comes with a stringer for installation and it's the same price as the Cobra. The overal feel of the Redback is just high quality and rugged, compared to the ManKung mk50 thats just so much cheaper build and feel for only 20 euro difference.
Horizone redback is not worth it, very poor safety assembly which jams regularly, had two and both went the same way, Aligator pistol crossbow is much more accurate and reliable.
It’s totally the opposite. The alligator is a piece of trash, I have both! If you touch the string or shake it by accident it will shoot, the way it’s cocked is not safe. Nothing holds the string, nothing at all, it hangs on the little edge.
@@PimentaOP I have both and have quite a collection of crossbows, found the horizons safety lock very hard to disengage and it eventually jammed but maybe a faulty one, does happen, found the alligator excellent, very powerful and very accurate at 20 metres, no problems at all.
You both make valid points it depends on how you look at things. You could take the safety and the ADF out of the Redback (I recommend you don't) and it would still be as safe as it's competitors. I have heard of people having problems with the plastic safety bar breaking on the red back, but it's basically a T shape with a spur on the back mike did a couple of videos on it a while back and mentioned it wouldn't be difficult to make a replacement out of metal.
You British always have some weird weapons in many shape or form,I have one similar to these here in Chinada but they must have but stock otherwise it would be prohibited,so your crossbows are not permitted in my country.Weird Shyt but sadly true...
These are still both very deadly crossbows - DO NOT POINT THESE LOADED CROSSBOWS AT ANYBODY, or you might regret the decision for the rest of your life!
@cunnyfred9562 wdym, these are exactly for unarmored soft human targets. Not ferocious huge animals or Kevlar covered militias 😂. Recommended usage towards thieves, robbers, serial killers, school shooters the likes
This is not what you want, only one aluminum and with a Pistol grip, they are so greedy, too cheap, not eather one. Is what you want, get a pistol grip, all Aluminum
Great stuff Mike, so good to see a demo on them. Got both now. Thank you

The ek limb is stronger than the old cobra model which was around 47 lbs of draw force. View it as cobra limb 2.0 if you will.
@@citizenx3729 ah nice that’s good to know 👍
is there a way to strengthen the limb? maybe a piece of pvc or fiberglass rod attached to the forward face?

@@citizenx3729 yes I was looking for a more homemade/diy idea for my older cbp's but I think I answered my own question
Try strong rubber band... ...tension attached to the forward face...

The redback is a true 80# pistolbow if you twist the string good and tight when installing it.

Sweet bro how did you tie your string on your bow????
Great video! Thank you
Great vid man am now considering buying the redback as my first crossbow pistol.i just need to find a store that sells them 👍
Very informative. Would have liked chronograph test too ,see if claimed 235fps is accurate. Looks like It is.
Can I please review the man kun 80ib mini crossbow
Nice video!
Hey Mike how long can you keep a crossbow pistol like the redback cocked safely?
not sure mate, i'd not leave it for longer than 30 mins myself, but i sadly really have no idea.
@@WeaponCollector I've done it for longer than that myself. But it does make good sense to air on the side of caution.
Thank You for the vid, usefull!
you can actually here the difference in them
