    It's interesting how final fantasy 7 seems to be the perfect game for a remake. Not only because it's insanely popular and came out at a where 3D graphics were not quite up to snuff yet, but also because it starts off in a city before opening up to the larger world which allows square chance to create the first game and get the engine/ technology ready to do the more expansive parts of the game. It really is turning out to be an amazing project

    • @COOLFRIEND

      Except they didn’t get the engine/tech ready. There are still loading elevators and other “environmental loading” segments that make the world feel disjointed. In fact it seems like they didn’t fix any of the technical problems remake had.

      How does this even work? 40 Hz is just slightly less choppy than 30 Hz, A 60 Hz monitor can do 40 Hz just fine and it'll feel the same as a 120 Hz one.

      No, this is not it. The PS5 has hardware to allow 60 FPS on pretty much any game.
      What we need is developers doing different stuff other than just "yeah let's just lower the res until we hit 60 FPS".

    @DigitalFoundry Can you cover how the game handles 1080p? I'm curious if it's possible to play 60fps at native 1080p under any circumstances or if the performance mode will only run at 60fps with lower resolutions that upscale to 1080p or if the quality mode will only run at 30fps and hit a native 1080p. Mostly asking for Streamers as so few bother playing above 1080p and it seems like running at such low resolutions there should enjoy a decent compromise where you see 60fps with no further downsides aside from the resolution.

    • @yuriloki64
      @yuriloki64 7 месяцев назад +2

      The game doesn’t care about your screen resolution. It will just use the designed resolution on each mode (performance/quality) regardless of your image output… that’s something that it is completely out of our control on consoles. In other words, no performance gain if your screen has lower resolutions.

    • @qwert_au
      @qwert_au 7 месяцев назад +1

      what yuriloki said
      The game will render internally at a predesignated resolution and then scale the image to your output resolution (what you set your TV to); so that means literally 0 performance impact by changing the output resolution.

    Hopefully the statement Sony made about wanting to release more titles and exclusives simultaneously on PC at launch holds true and comes sooner rather than later. Having to choose between fairly good visuals and choppy gameplay or inconsistently ok/bad visuals with still not even consistent framerate even only at 60 fps is a pretty poor set of options. Having to wait years for it to come to pc so we can actually play it with an enjoyable framerate and great visuals is genuinely sad.

    The graphics mode is running at 30fps but the in game animation is not. All character animation is updating at under 30fps, roughly around 1x - 2x fps only. That's why it looks so lagging when playing in graphic mode compare to Remake. All real time cut scene is fine, only in game animation is problematic. I believe this is owing to the new "terrain action" where developer updated the animation system in rebirth which make animation not updating in time. Hope digital foundry can look into it.

      And it's weird. It's at a point that doesn't require much loading. It takes about 30 seconds to load between rounds in Chadley's battle simulator. It shouldn't because the only assets being swapped are the enemies. Loading from the title screen to the open world of Junon takes 10 seconds, so it makes no sense why swapping enemies would take 30 seconds. It just seems like poor optimization like the door that never loads in ff7remake for the PS4

      FF16 for all its faults is a masterpiece of engineering, they made their ambitions not too large and delivered on a well designed game. That's what CBU3 does. FF7 Rebirth is way bigger in scope and pushes things to the limit with many more problems;@oKingdom

      @@Bahamut998 did you not read the 2nd part of my comment??? It takes 10 seconds to load from the title screen to Junon but takes 30 seconds to load between rounds in Chadley's battle simulator. Not going to Chadley, not loading up the first battle but only between rounds. Everything else is 10 seconds or less. Fast travel between Junon less than 5 seconds. Opening menus 1 second. Etc. It's an optimization issue.
      Like Oliver mentioned in this tech review, FF7REBIRTH is an Unreal Engine 4 game like Remake was. The thing about Unreal Engine games is that they've been known to have poor asset streaming unless the games are optimized. It's why Cloud's door never loaded up the high quality texture in the PS4 version of FF7REMAKE. Or why in so many games during the PS360 era during cutscenes high quality textures would load during the middle of cutscenes.
      FF16 pushed the PS5 harder than ff7rebirth. It doesn't have RT features like FF16 or Forspoken, which have RT shadows, which pushes the PS5 more since RDNA 2 has weak ray tracing. It's also why FF7Rebirth can have a stable 60fps in performance mode, while in FF16's performance mode fluctuates between 45 and 60fps.

    After playing Rebirth demo I needed to remind myself how Remake looks onf PS5, and it looks...awesome, besides some bad textures here and there it looks great, runs smooth and clean. So if Rebirth is being made on PS5 excluisively, whats going on then? It does look a touch more impressive from the technical side, but the image quality is so much worse...its as if they cant be bothered with optimization at all, just went straight to PS5 with same engine and just started developing as fast as possible without a concern about the performance, and thats what we get a PS4 four year old game looking better than a ps5 exclusive.

      It was like you said. Fast development + bigger scope of the game (open environments in comparison to small ones in Remake) and you have the answer why performance mode looks considerably worse than Remake. It's a bit dissapointing but it is what it is, i rather play the game faster than wait another few months until the optimize ione graphic mode for PS5. Those who are bothered can always wait for probable fixes for performance mode, wait for PS5 Pro version or PC one, or just play 30 fps (it looks quite good).
