This game is just further proof that every console since the ps3/360 generation has been aiming at least an entire resolution step too high. The devs could have targeted 720p instead, and put more focus into the game and graphics and effects while maintaining a better and more stable frame rate. Same issue with the later consoles. Ps4 pro/xbox one should have targeted 1080p, not 4k. And this current gen should target 1440p, not 4k as its resolution target for most games. The quest for 4k has led to so many awful and badly performing games, its a tragedy. A locked, solid, well made 1080p or 1440p is far better than these sad, upscaled 720p travesties that we keep getting.

They should add a motion blur slider like what they did in FF16 so that the fidelty mode looks better and people can adjust the slider according to their tolerance
Fanboys in FB groups with rose tinted glasses swear that they fixed everything and fixed lighting too and the game looks sharp after the update… I think they’re just gaslighting themselves in echo chambers..
the lack of camera motion blur is a big reason why so many people are pissy about 30fps being “choppy”, the game has great motion blur on characters etc but when the camera moves you can see jittering on background elements. good implementation of 30 requires some smart camera techniques
Ya and the patch made one of the side missions unable to be finished. The Shinra middle manager high score one. The G bike doesn’t register your high score or something. Can’t get the ribbon now.
They need to figure out how to switch this over to a custom UE5 engine and re-release it as a directors cut or whatever bc this game deserves so much more than this
The biggest thing this patch changed is breaking the final sidequest, leaving a good few portions of the game unobtainable/completable. Minor disaster given how little it improved.
Game makers are conditioning me to stop buying games day 1. You pay a premium for getting it early and punished, fool me once shame on you fools me over and over shame on me

You ran PS5 in 1080p through Retrotink 4k and got better looking results? I'd like to see that! I hope you capture it and do a video on similar circumstances that would benefit from current gen games downsampled to 1080p then upscaled.
On my LG C2, I ended up playing it at 4K graphics mode and camera speed set to 2. In LG C2 TV settings, turn on TruMotion and set de-judder to 6 and de-blur to 5. With this, I can comfortably play it with sharp graphics, smooth motion, and minimal ghosting and artifacts that I can still live with.

Guerrilla did the impossible with Forbidden West, that was truly remarkable. I remembrer noticing something really weird the first time I saw the foliage and realized that the amount of flickering was insane. I had to stop playing and wait for a patch and yes, almost 3 months was a lot of time, but the way they fixed it was really amazing. That game is a masterpiece in terms of graphics and Decima Engine is really incredible, I absolutely cannot wait to play Death Stranding 2 and if it will be worth it I will even consider getting the PS5 Pro just for that game. On the other hand I never played Final Fantasy in my life, just played a couple of hours of FF7 Remake PS5 version but never touched it again since then. I played the Rebirth demo almost entirely I think (the first hour or so) but man, the image quality is really bad.. The cutscenes are really really good but once the gameplay kicks in there's a crazy amount of softness, blurryness, pop-in and low-res texture that I decided that it wasn't worth my money. At least not in this state and at full price. I might still go back to part one since it's less noticeable but that old UE4 version is really limiting this game a lot. Imagine how good it would have been if only they had used Unreal Engine 5 instead of 4. Well, whatever.
It still looks pretty bad. Maybe if they didn’t put too much crap in the map it would run better. There’s no middle ground for this game. You get either the crisp 4K with horrendous frame rate or the Vaseline smudged performance mode that looks like a souped up PS3 game running in 800p.

The game looks like a PS4 title and performs like one too, on a much more powerful console. Most textures aside from the character models look horrendous and the outdoors lighting is terrible. In some aspects, Remake looked better. It's a shame and it's no wonder we're getting a PS5 Pro. Not that we really need it, but most developers clearly have a hard time optimizing their games for good performance and image quality and don't really know how to extract those from the hardware they're given. It really puts to perspective that 2 years later Horizon Forbidden West is still *by far* the best looking game this generation and runs circles around most other games in terms of performance. Crisp 1800p at 80+ fps while looking the way it does. It puts games like Rebirth or FF16 to shame. And a "shame" it's really all it is because Rebirth, as a game, is truly amazing, it's just the technical aspect of it that is a letdown. I'm having to put up with last gen graphics AND a choppy 30fps mode that doesn't even have motion blur.
i wish devs would make a decent effort to optimize games better or atleast maybe have 4k as a separate option to download so you don't get such insane file sizes if you're on 1080p since consoles just cant seem to get 4k 60fps, they should just aim for 1440p and 60fps
I'm sitting 8 feet away from my 65" LG TV and everything looks good. Always Performance Mode for me. It doesn't look that blurry. My sharpness settings is always been 35.
When im riding chocoback through the open world, jumping off and seemlessly in combat without a hitch, i dont notice anything negative about the visuals... No doubt its not perfect, nothing is, especially on this scale. I bet if you stand still and squint at pixels you will see lots of issues. Its a good thing we play these games and not stand still and stare at a static image
This isn’t a matter of pixel peeping to notice flaws. This game looks horrible in performance mode, even sitting far away from the tv. They should have used a competent upscaler but they obviously haven’t. The game doesn’t look good in motion or in static shots, and there really is no excise for the game to look as bad as it does. Graphics aren’t everything obviously but I think the notion that they don’t matter at all is absurd, and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is a worse game than it could be because how bad it looks. It takes me out of the immersion of the story because the whole screen looks like it is covered in vaseline. The previous game which was also on the PS4 looks far better. Still a good game but it was probably rushed out the door, otherwise I don’t see why Square Enix would release it in such a state
@@unoriginalname771 I never once said or even implied graphics don't matter. Game looks horrible? That's a big stretch. I clearly said it's obviously not perfect, but horrible? I admitted it's not perfect or anything. But I can also admit it isn't horrible like you stated it is. Also, if it's that important to you that it looks better, the graphics mode seems to be a pretty stable 30, and looks great. Play that. Nobody is forcing you to play the performance mode but you. Also...as far as the immersion comment, I played the original back in the 90s. I couldn't possibly be more immersed in this game than I am. @@JungKooksTwin I agree, all those games look better. Horizon and death stranding use decima engine, a proprietary engine for 1st party Sony games. Ghost I believe used unreal. Difference between all of those and rebirth is development time. If I'm not mistaken rebirth entered pre production in 2019, and didn't enter actual production of the game until 2020. So barely 4 years of dev time. Horizon took 5. Ghost took 6. Death stranding I'm not too sure about but I think it was 5 years too. Obviously rebirth could benefit from a little more polish. But the scale, the amount of content, all done in 4 years is pretty crazy nowadays
To be fair, you indeed didn't say graphics didn't matter, I made an assumption there based on what you said as it's the same rhetoric that's often thrown around from people who claim graphics do not matter. That is my bad. However, my main point is that this isn't a case of a game that has minor graphical blemishes. As soon as my brother and I saw the in game graphics, we both said out loud, "What the fuck?" Sitting about ten feet from the tv, and we see an ugly, overly soft image and horrible lighting, not to mention some textures that wouldn't be out of place for a nintendo 64 title. It's one of the ugliest games on PS5 that I've ever seen. The art style is mostly great, but the image quality doesn't hold up at all. As for the Quality mode, it plays like a slideshow. It looks janky as hell probably because it has no camera motion blur. So while performance mode is very ugly, it is much more playable. I'm glad they got the gameplay of the game right, but it could have been the complete package if they gave it more time and ironed out the image quality issues in performance mode, and I'd argue some good motion blur for the graphics mode wouldn't hurt either. I'm not being absurd to point out the obvious in stating that the game does look terrible. It's really not pretty to look at outside cutscenes, which is a shame. @@d8l835
If using LG OLED: Use perf mode with smooth setting and turn on BFI to High. The motion clarity is insanely good and more than makes up for the softer image because there is no blur or stutter while in motion. It makes the action during combat also look pristine. I did my first playthrough in 30fps, and almost finished with the 2nd playthrough using this setup, it is the best way to play, IMO. Tested on an 83" OLED C1. You can also add some sharpness back into the image with your TVs sharpness settings, if you prefer. Obviously not the perfect solution, but this is my recommendation.
picture options > TruMotion@@ItzVALOR EDIT: wow, looks great actually. a lot of artifacts around character models though when moving and longer input lag due to game mode having to be off so it's not really for me. it's a nice tease of what a PS5 pro version could look like though..
Perf mode is abysmal. I'd rather play graphics mode and sacrifice fps. Its not a competitive game, 30fps is fine. They should have added motion blur so graphics is a bit more acceptable
Graphics mode is pretty stable. I haven’t played the game on my 4K display. The game is absolutely gorgeous on my hd crt in all modes. The contrast is so much better on my crt and the blacks. I don’t think square wanted to put performance mode into the game. I’m pretty sure perf mode works the same way in remake, the environments were smaller and the game didn’t have to drop as dramatically in res causing as many issues with the upscaling algorithm and the antialiasing. All in all, I think the game is great. I think square intended perf mode to more of a luxury, as the game defaults to graphics. It could be worse, graphics mode could be broken. People bitch about the camera not having any blur but I don’t have any issues on my crt lol
I just don't understand 30fps in games.. when I play breath of the wild or other 30fps firstparty nintendo game when the game is stable 30fps i have no issues with playing it, but when i turn on quality mode in rebirth or spiderman 2 it seems choppy and hard to look at. Why in some games 30fps seems fluid and perfectly playable while in others it looks just horrible ??
It's because there is no 60fps mode to compare it to. If you don't switch back and forth, your brain will adjust to the 30fps and it will look and play fluid. Rebirth, especially, as an RPG plays absolutely fine at 30 fps.
So wait, these ppl were saying not too long ago that we don’t need the ps5 pro while at the same time scrutinizing every single pixel from games like ff7 rebirth… these are the same ppl that said that the series x was the second coming of Jesus AND at the same time they’re saying the ps5 pro is not powerful enough. wtf? 😂😂😂.

I’m so done preordering games. I knew this would be a great game so I pre ordered it, but now it seems we are going backwards in terms of performance and graphics and games are launching in unplayable states. I feel like like we didn’t have this issue in 2020/2021 when new gen first released. Every big game had a 60 fps option and they looked just fine. Now half the games that come out don’t even have a 60 fps option. What the hell is going on?!
Tried 60, was to blurry for me. Played the entire game in 30 fps with boost mode on lg activated (lowers input). Worked like a charm. Preferred to have 40 tbh and a little bit of motion blur, but after a while your eyes adapt. The visuals can be hit or miss. When they are good, they are amazing to see in 4k.
I'm playing in Perf Mode (Sharp) on my 58" 4K Samsung TV: with a ~ 9 feet distance to my couch, it looks totally fine to me! (my main issue pre-patch were those strange looking facial lighting effects) Couldn't get myself to play the game with 30 fps coming straight out of Remake Intergrade with 60
As someone that plays PC at a minimum of 80fps, this feels like a decision between the lesser of two(/three) evils. Which is such a shame because the game is so incredibly brilliant. Looks as though that 60fps experience will have to wait for me till a second play through on Hard mode when a PC, PS6 or possibly PS5 Pro version comes out.

Im glad i started using my 1080p Tv again. Looks great in performance mode. The only issue was the lighting. It’s so bright that Aerith looks like a plastic doll at times. Also when going from somewhere dark to light or light to dark can leave it too bright or too dark.
Yep upscaled 4k looks flat and not as sharp... native 1080p destroys upscaled 4k people are so brainwashed by the marketing scheme off theses consoles.
I still don't understand why these kinds of games limit menus and minigames to 30fps in the graphics mode (at least the menus). Even if you can tolerate the worse input lag and choppy motion, the pause menu is horrible to navigate on the graphics mode, and you will spend a lot of time in there
I feel sorry for those who still switch modes back and forth, it’s terrible, you’ll never like any of the options I've been playing for 300 hours now at 30fps from start and have zero complains, its just game of the generation for me.
Thats because the ps5 is upscaled 4k and not true native 4k.. all the games on a ps5 will look better at native 1080p image then a fake upscaled 4k. because all games are developed for that resolution or around it.and the ps5 is only powerful enough for that resolution. When you here 4k on ps5 games its always upscaled 4k never native its 1080 or around that then a fancy hardware plus algorithms boost the image quality to 4k but doing that comes with a cost to sharpness clarity etc because it aint developed natively in 4k.. run all games on ps5 at 1080p once you start to take notice at the sharpness differences and clearness from the both you will then understand witcher 3 is a good way to test and see it..
The ps5 doesn’t render it at 1080 though. What’s happening is it renders at 900p or whatever it is internally for performance mode (wouldn’t be surprised if it was even lower in this case), the game upscales to 4k, then the ps5 downscales it to 1080 if that’s what the output is set at, then if playing on a 4k tv the tv will upscale it again to 4k. The only way this would look better is either you’re playing on a 1080p tv, or the upscaler in your tv set is better than what the game is using, which honestly wouldn’t surprise me as you can’t get much worse.
I really wish they released this on PC. Going from FF7 Remake at 4K 120+ FPS to this? I am not looking forward to it and waiting a year for a PC release is not optimal either.

Just started this today and performance mode looks terrible. I’m fine with 1080p games, but this looks way under that, under 720p even. I don’t know if it’s actually that low or what but it certainly looks it. I’ve had to switch to 30fps which is pretty bad too as on a modern screen with decent pixel response panning shots or camera movement looks awful. There’s also really bad textures even in graphics mode, like ps3 level in some cases, ground, rocks etc. We’re told its limitations of the console etc, but then I load up the Stella Blade demo and it looks way better, much higher resolution and buttery smooth. So it’s not, it’s just bloated game engines and lazy / inexperienced developers. I expected better, especially since the first game looked way better in performance mode.
Well this game came out 99% without any bugs. That is more important for me than a shitty performance mode. 30fps in this game is really no dealbreaker. It plays totally fine.
Part 3 really should be UE5 or at least the latest UE4. This is what happens when you make a trilogy, start making it in 2014 and continue to work off that old version
@@dorian6021 Performance is fine enough in Rebirth. If DF's theory about the outdated UE4 being the reason they aren't using FSR2 or TSR then UE4 would fix that. Say what you meant about the quailty of FSR2 but it is a lot better then simply blowing up the image
Did you play it? Is it really that good? All I see is a bland low res map you explore most of the time while going for random fetch quests. Am I wrong?
I get the game is bigger and more open than the 1st, but it really is a shame they basically tanked the visuals in comparisson, altho remake had some dang awful textures and looked very all over the place, like a Yakuza/Sega game, very much a up and down ride in terms of visuals across the asset range. But I can't help but think Square where told to intentionally make this game fuzzy/blurry, in order to make the best/clear version for the Pro, 100% fact the PS5 could run this game better, Square and Sony won't let that happen, same's going to happen with GTA6, get ready for that to look like crap on the base PS5.
I really regret buying this game due to its performance. FF16 was still fine. FF7 intergrade was awesome. This really made me decide never to pre-order.
@@itsmatt517 I just couldn’t do it on performance, even at 1080p it was blurry. One thing it did teach me though is I’m ok with 30fps, if I either start the game like that or give it some time after getting used to 60. The annoying thing is it’s being rendered at 1440p, so if they did no post processing it would be super crisp at 1080p.
Sure. Let's forget that the game still looks pretty good in quality mode and that the game was launched 99% bug-free.... So either people are complaining because the game needs 5 months of patching or because the game supposedly looks like crap... just funny. You can't please anyone.

Fanboys in FB groups with rose tinted glasses swear that they fixed everything and fixed lighting too and the game looks sharp after the update… I think they’re just gaslighting themselves in echo chambers..
graphics mode still the way to go, i just wish they would fix up the pop in more and added camera blur, otherwise i really dont mind the 30fps
The game already have motion blur. Camera blur just looks terrible and turns everything into a smear fest, I'm glad they didn't use it
@@SE-fq4gf usually if they have a slider , there is always some form of camera blur present even at the lowest setting. That's the argument against it
Same for me. I‘m fine with 30fps for everything that is not a FPS and FF7 Rebirthjust look unexcusable at the performance modes.
the lack of camera motion blur is a big reason why so many people are pissy about 30fps being “choppy”, the game has great motion blur on characters etc but when the camera moves you can see jittering on background elements. good implementation of 30 requires some smart camera techniques
Yes is there is more pop in while on graphics mode. Is really annoying
Ya and the patch made one of the side missions unable to be finished. The Shinra middle manager high score one. The G bike doesn’t register your high score or something. Can’t get the ribbon now.
Apparently I hear its only for the digitial version of the game that this happens after the update for whatever reason,
They need to figure out how to switch this over to a custom UE5 engine and re-release it as a directors cut or whatever bc this game deserves so much more than this
The biggest thing this patch changed is breaking the final sidequest, leaving a good few portions of the game unobtainable/completable. Minor disaster given how little it improved.

And now the PS5 pro is just an overpriced gimmick with zero changes. Stick to PC. Rebirth will eventually be ported
i wish devs would make a decent effort to optimize games better
or atleast maybe have 4k as a separate option to download so you don't get such insane file sizes if you're on 1080p

As far as no excuses? Well, you know that's not true either. There are lots of reasons/excuses. I didn't give any excuses, or excuse it anyway.
The second you step into kalm it should slap you in the face with how great of a job these guys did building this expansive world we all dreamed of decades ago
horizon forbidden west... death stranding... ghosts of tsushima.? there is no reason rebirth 60 fps mode to look like this compared to other ps5 exclusive open world games. Is it horrible ? of course not lol its just fine but it really should look way better.

Sure. Let's forget that the game still looks pretty good in quality mode and that the game was launched 99% bug-free....
So either people are complaining because the game needs 5 months of patching or because the game supposedly looks like crap... just funny.
You can't please anyone.
I cant play the game cause of the motion sickness. I wish they would let you toggle it off like 16
Toggle off what?`There is no motion blur in FF7 Rebirth... but a minor per-object blur.
@@sfk-fjordan well that's what's making me sick then
I've been playing a lot and finally switched on performance mode to see how it looked and it's not that bad. The bigger problems are pop-in and random low quality textures.
I’m not touching this game until ps5 pro is released
What do think would change with new hardware but without patches to support the new PS5 Pro?
I would say.... nothing at all. The experience will be the same as on the current console.
Youre a very perceptive one. They are playing you like a fiddle. Dee de de leee dee de lee dee lee
@@sfk-fjordan I wasn’t clear, I will wait for the patches on the ps5 pro , wait for the DF analysis and only then I will decide if I should buy the game or not.
@@latinochico The patches we are all hoping for :)
why the hell is the lighting still garbage with constant pop in all over the world 😭
