Final fantasy 7 rebirth could easily run 1800p 60fps on standard PS5 with razor sharp image quality yet the devs simply didn’t wanna put the time and effort into optimization which is a very sad trend that so many devs are following this generation. Last Gen XboxOneX was already doing native 4k and Ps4 Pro 1800p and games were razor sharp as we never had blurry games last gen as that crap started with this generation where devs seem as though they’re not fully optimizing anymore like they always did in all previous generations. Modern upscaling techniques and frame generation have allowed devs to skip thousands, and thousands of hours of performance, and visual optimizations, and it seems that’s the problem ! If that were a first party title, the performance mode would look like the current quality mode and never drop a frame. Sadly we are expected to pay money for a Pro to compensate for bad optimisation in games. Coming from the PC space, I've 30 years experience of that....

It already was for me, but then I make it a point to play the Remake project games for the first time in 30fps Graphics mode. The upscaler artifacts were pretty atrocious sometimes even then, though, so I’d say the game sorely needed the extra attention there.
Wow that is one heck of an upgrade. Although sadly you could put a picture of a dog turd in the left-hand half of the screen in place of the OG PS5 footage, and people would still comment saying "I can't see the difference, the Pro isn't worth it".
This game is literally the main selling point for me to buy the Pro. I just got the platinum a few weeks ago after struggling through the last few chapters on Hard mode and the vr challenges. Yet, I’m hyped to start a fresh run on the Pro and experience the game how it was originally designed to be experienced.
There actually is kind of an "FOV slider" in Rebirth, you can choose how far the camera from the player is during exploration and during combat (separate ones). 3 settings are offered numbered from 1 to 3 with 1 being closer to the player and 3 being further away. It makes a difference.
Tinfoil hat theory, did Sony require poor visuals to have one title that clearly shows PS5 PRO as a worthwhile upgrade? They said it themselves, there's technically no reason for the visuals on base PS5 to be that bad.
Yeah it was really just outdoor areas that were bad, which, I get is a lot of the game. All cutscenes and indoor areas looked amazing even in performance mode.
I was on chapter 2 and I couldn't continue playing because of the poor image quality. I was playing on my LG C1 65" and it just looked too blurry. I'm so glad that I've waited so long to play it and finally with the PS5 Pro, it's going to be amazing.
@@jcdenton868 I tried the Fidelity Mode but the combat in 30fps felt wrong. Especially when playing Remake in 60fps and then switching to 30fps in Rebirth wasn't easy. I'm glad I waited, can't wait for the Pro.

This game is so poorly optimized that it’s laughable
@@merathe9391 yea generally I don't recommend turning off motion blur if playing 30fps. I don't actually mind 30fps motion fluidity that much after my eyes are adjusted but some more demanding action sequences I did change for performance mode momentarily because of input latency.
Game looked horrible on my 55 C1. Biggest disappointment of the year. I stop playing it after chapter 8. The maps, mini games, and story were unplayable.
This game has just lazy optimization all over it it should have not looked so blurry on base ps5 when you have big open world games like horizon forbidden west looking way better at 60fps on base ps5.
Nice, going to replay ff7, stellar blade, rise of the ronin, spiderman, hogwarts and ragnarok on my pro soon. First descendent also getting a pro version. And all the upcoming games. Are spacemarine 2 and silent hill 2 also getting pro versions soon?
It's like they said, Unreal4 and open world doesnt usually run well. But going to unreal5 at this point would costs Square Enix to consider. PS5 Pro is the solution whether people comes to terms with that or not
I'm guessing I'm probably the only one on this forum saying this, but I really don't think performance mode looks that bad. It's not the best or cleanest, but the output doesn't prevent me from enjoying the game nor does it severely detract from the beautiful (imo) presentation of the game. I'd definitely take an fsr implementation and do certainly think the pro does an amazing job with the image quality, I just won't pay 800.00 for it
I would and I’m disappointed at myself over it. This game just does not look good on a 55 in 4k display, and the perf is extremely choppy on the fidelity mode, even more so cause I always turn off motion blur
@@merathe9391 I'm on a 43inch 4k display. I guess I'm so used to 1080p that it doesn't phase me much. But mileage will vary for sure. Some may hate it. The ps5 is def capable of more, but it's still a stunning game
I suspect that Johns issue with the FOV being claustrophobic is related to his TV being a massive 77 inches. On my 32 inch monitor it doesn't feel tight to me really at all.
Beleive it or not, the Sony TV setting “Reality Creation Engine” completely fixes the blurry image problem with FFVII Rebirth performance mode. I have a 77” Sony A80J OLED TV with that setting. I was about to give up on the game until I stumbled on that setting and realized that turning that one setting on and up to 60-70/100 it not only eliminated the blur, it legit upscales the image. I was baffled at how a TV setting could do that to a rendered game in real-time. It is so legit it even makes the quality mode look better IMO. So yeah, if you don’t plan to get a PS5 Pro and happen to have a newer Sony TV, look for that setting and give it a try. I’m telling you, it takes the game from hard to tolerate blur to perfectly fine to the point you really won’t even think about it anymore.
If only the Pro could fix the garbage trophy lists of certain games, like FF7 Rebirth here. I wish there was a toggle to banish forced replays on ever increasing difficulties, or tedious collect-a-thons, or tacked on garbage modes like wave survival. That would truly offer a transformative experience, as opposed to simply not buying games I would otherwise enjoy if only the devs didn’t butcher the trophy lists.
first game is 40 hours long, second game is 120 hours long... assuming the third is 120.. you are looking at around 300 hours of gameplay to see the end of the story. have fun
They say most nornal people dont beed a PS5 Pro, but I'm a genetic freak and I'm not normal! As soon as the Pro was announced I had a 141 2/3rds% chance of buying one, and once you add Rebirth to the mix the odds of me not buying one drastically went down!
I'm wondering if he had his glasses on when he was playing or was he trying to watch it with his glasses off and it looked it more blurry then it actually was
This game definitely made me wait for a PS5 Pro, but the final decider for me is the Alan Wake II announcement of a 30fps Pro mode including RT for the first time on consoles. I'm not a framerate maximalist and it means that Sony will let the choice up to developers to make what they want with the additional features and power of PS5 Pro.
I havent gotten around to this yet even though I'm a huge final fantasy fan and loved 7 remake. Feeling vindicated holding off on it now haha. This is gon a be my first game on the pro I think, cant wait
I'm looking forward to firing this game up when I get my PS5 Pro. I finished Disc 1 on my PS4 PRO but i decided to wait till i secured the 5Pro before continuing the journey
The game looks great with the PSSR (and it'll probably be the first game I play on the Pro) but I was wondering if the Pro isn't capable of running the game at native 1440p (at least) and 60fps, saving GPU usage for other improvements. Some other developers are presenting more options regarding the extra power and not necessarily with the PSSR, which makes me think that there's still a lot to learn from this technology and we'll probably see it in future games, post-Pro launch. At least I hope so. I just wish these new options were given to the players to choose instead of playing a fixed modification made by the developers.
Isn't there a FOV setting? I mean, it's not really called "FOV" but Camera Distance and it kinda does the same job. Unless John wanted even more than what the game offers at max distance.
Pro looks good, but I still have an issue with the ps5 and pro doing that very obvious step up in resolution a certain distance away. Can't put it into words, but on GT7 for example the barriers change a certain distance away, like shading is added.. What's that called? And are we stuck with that effect forever for all future game systems?
What i like more about the pro patch is the more visible pop in i cant stand games with long draw distances.I love all the foliage drawing instantly every few feet. This is nonsense developers are lazy people look at the foliage drawing distance its horrible.
Yo 8kgamer, unrelated to your comment but i see that you have your youtube comment history invisible, as in when i click on your pfp i can't see your comments on other vidoes, how do i enable this feature?
I ended up using Trumotion on my oled when it released. The blurriness of performance was painful and the stutter at 30 FPS was still bad. The increase in input lag didn't bother me and the artifacting wasn't that bad
"You wouldn't buy a Pro just for this game". Oh you fools, you sweet, sweet, beautiful fools. That's EXACTLY why I'm buying a Pro. And it's not even my first time playing it.
Why would Square Enix care how many PS5 Pros Sony sells? And if their goal was to sell more PS5 Pros, why didn't they simply release the game with the PS5 Pro? You need to tighten your tin-foil hat and come up with a better conspiracy.
I believe they said the game will get the ps5 pro support in an upcoming patch, I have a tiny bit of hope the work they did in implementing pssr for the pro might mean they would revamp the original taa for that update but I also fear they won't touch it lol
Im actually kind of annoyed how much better it looks. Id grab one, but the thing holding me back is part 3 and whether the Pro would be able to run it at 60 with good visuals given they are considering UE5.

I play my ps5 on a 1080p tv, and I couldn’t play it at 60 due to the blur. It doesn’t look like 720 to me even. I got the pro and and gonna upgrade a 4k oled.

Don't miss this one if you like RPGs, open world games, or JRPGs specifically. One of the greatest games of this generation, easily.
This game will finally be worth me playing.
It already was for me, but then I make it a point to play the Remake project games for the first time in 30fps Graphics mode. The upscaler artifacts were pretty atrocious sometimes even then, though, so I’d say the game sorely needed the extra attention there.
November 7 🎉Let’s go let’s go 🤩
Wow that is one heck of an upgrade.
Just pre-ordered my pro, havent got this game, but will pick it up later. Nice to know i'd have a superior option to play on.
There actually is kind of an "FOV slider" in Rebirth, you can choose how far the camera from the player is during exploration and during combat (separate ones). 3 settings are offered numbered from 1 to 3 with 1 being closer to the player and 3 being further away. It makes a difference.
Love the direction this chanel is going, The young and the restless of gaming tech, doing 1000 episodes saying the same thing
Good call out! It's getting boring already. We know DF is all in on the pro already, so it would be nice for them to move on already.
People keep clicking.
@Cryptic0013 not for long they don't
It feels like I am seeing less and less haters now when release date in looming in the horizon 😃
It's incredible how many people are falling for this tactic to sell you the pro
What do you expect from console people? There's a reason they pay for online subscription 😂
Yeah, it's baffling how showing games running better on the Pro makes people interested in buying one. What a nefarious tactic!
Tinfoil hat theory, did Sony require poor visuals to have one title that clearly shows PS5 PRO as a worthwhile upgrade?
They said it themselves, there's technically no reason for the visuals on base PS5 to be that bad.
Next level glaze. FF7 is just fine on the 5
Get some glasses mate, cause it really isn’t. The fact that I can see major diff on RUclips of all places is actually saddening
@@merathe9391 noticed but they make it seems like it’s unplayable. No one is really looking for that small stuff overall but do you
Yeah it was really just outdoor areas that were bad, which, I get is a lot of the game.
Played on C3 in 30fps mode through the whole game. It was perfectly fine. Gonna probably buy pro but will not play this game again.
@@jcdenton868 I tried the Fidelity Mode but the combat in 30fps felt wrong. Especially when playing Remake in 60fps and then switching to 30fps in Rebirth wasn't easy. I'm glad I waited, can't wait for the Pro.
@@jcdenton868props to you cause I couldn’t go past chapter 4. Granted I was a bit occupied due to work but playing it just gave me a headache. I usually turn off motion blur and after watching this vid, made me realize that this is one of the few minorities of a game that performs worse with motion blur off.
I bought a PSP for Crisis Core, I bought a PS4 Pro for Remake, and now I will buy a PS5 Pro for Rebirth.
This game has just lazy optimization all over it it should have not looked so blurry on base ps5 when you have big open world games like horizon forbidden west looking way better at 60fps on base ps5.
It's the now patented Square-Enix expert optimization of throw it out and hope for the best.
Meaning - 0 optimization.
Nice, going to replay ff7, stellar blade, rise of the ronin, spiderman, hogwarts and ragnarok on my pro soon. First descendent also getting a pro version. And all the upcoming games. Are spacemarine 2 and silent hill 2 also getting pro versions soon?
No John, when someone asks if you wanna do something, you say "Yeah man, I wanna do it".
I think we need to stop begging for a PS5 Pro to fix an issue with this game that the developers should have fixed a long time ago.
This is not a pro thing, this is a 95% of devs in every game thing.
All that happens is devs expect players to bruteforce their lack of optimization.
Let's hope that the third game in the FF7 Remake trilogy is going to improve these issues.
It's like they said, Unreal4 and open world doesnt usually run well. But going to unreal5 at this point would costs Square Enix to consider.
PS5 Pro is the solution whether people comes to terms with that or not
If it were $599 with a disc drive the comments would be different.
@@mikesaintjulesmusic I bet the amount of negativity is always constant. People would find things to hate.
Soo... Can someone explain to me how SE is capable of changing upscaling solution for PS5 Pro and unable to change it for base PS5 to FSR for example?
The ps5 is def capable of more, but it's still a stunning game
people keep dancing around this one, but 67% more compute units places it right at the vanilla rx 6800 at 3840 compute units.
I wish I had waited for my hard mode playthrough for the Pro but I'm glad I have the platinum trophy for Rebirth.
If I buy the pro. It will be almost specifically for this game.
& you'll get the benefit of great performance on future next-gen cross-gen titles.
Give us og ps5 folk a 40hz patch. Please digital foundry, bring it up and talk about it!
What will a 40hz patch solve? Increasing the resolution by a little bit will not fix the blurry mess caused by the bilinear filtering.
I played quality the whole game
I played an hour of rebirth on launch day after deciding to leave it to one side and wait for the pro to come out .
Can’t wait .
Gives me hope that DLSS will really clean this game up on PC
Yes for sure. Pretty sure they used FSR1 on PS5. So dumb lol.
Regarding the FOV, there is a camera distance option that may help with that.
I won’t be buying a Pro until Part 3 in a few years, assuming it doesn’t launch simultaneously on PC 🤞🏻
first game is 40 hours long, second game is 120 hours long... assuming the third is 120.. you are looking at around 300 hours of gameplay to see the end of the story. have fun
wish they would release a massive update like they’ve done with remake to fix low res textures and lighting also
When is the game coming out on pc
8:53 "You wouldn't buy a Pro for this game" well this game is so big, that I felt I have played 5 games in this 1 Game 😄 totally worth Your money
Wasn't this from weeks ago? Keep thinking there putting out new videos on the pro
I think they've both spoken about the game on Pro separately, but I think this discussion is new
They say most nornal people dont beed a PS5 Pro, but I'm a genetic freak and I'm not normal! As soon as the Pro was announced I had a 141 2/3rds% chance of buying one, and once you add Rebirth to the mix the odds of me not buying one drastically went down!
I'm curious about power use, thermals, fan noise and Returnal game
I have the game in my backlog and the pro preordered, excited to finally play it in a couple of weeks.
😂
Amazing video, thank you Digital Foundry, i found the video to be informative and i'm hopeful for a PC release.
It certainly looks compelling but I’ll be saving a high-fidelity play through for PC where I’ll be able to do much more than the Pro can.
Aerith dies at the end of Rebirth
@@HFranklin You think I don’t know that? What kind of asinine comment is this?
@@HFranklinwow thank for spoiling the game. That i didn’t play
We have to stop pretending raw power is the solution for beautiful graphics and flawless performance.
The only motion blur a game should have is "off"
I havent gotten around to this yet even though I'm a huge final fantasy fan and loved 7 remake.
@@Gustaviustwinkelberry Hey.I haven’t noticed thanks for letting me know.
I loved that game. It was fire. How u get to chapter 9/10 and just stop. Thats wild.
Brainrot.
You're the fool in this situation. They don't expect reasonable people to buy an upgrade for one game.
I wish FF16 would get a PS5 Pro mode, that could really use it. Glad I waited on progressing in FFVIIR and getting a better experience with the pro.
The texture popin is still crazy and takes the immersion away + i get the feeling they messed up the ps5 Version on purpose to sell more ps5 pros 😮
Why would Square Enix care how many PS5 Pros Sony sells? And if their goal was to sell more PS5 Pros, why didn't they simply release the game with the PS5 Pro? You need to tighten your tin-foil hat and come up with a better conspiracy.
I'll be doing trophy cleanup with the pro. Newgame+ related stuff mainly.
These 2 games do look much better
As a VR user I wonder will there be a jump in PSVR2 quality the way version 1 was enhanced by PS5
The image quality on base PS5 is absolutely unacceptable! *Both* Performance and Quality modes! They must be thoroughly addressed and properly fixed!
It's been since day 1 only played 5hrs... still waiting at this day the ps5pro since the leaks to play FF7 rebirth...
I played it on a 1080p TV and it definitely didn't look as bad as it does on a 4k screen
Never played the game before, buying a pro and am looking forward to playing both the remake and rebirth on it
I believe they said the game will get the ps5 pro support in an upcoming patch, I have a tiny bit of hope the work they did in implementing pssr for the pro might mean they would revamp the original taa for that update but I also fear they won't touch it lol
I've been holding off on playing rebirth to play on ps5pro also 😅.
Wasnt going to bother wirh the Platinum on this game, but I will be on the Pro for sure.
Jon: you wouldn’t buy a ps5 pro just for this game
Me: 👀😅🙃
Im actually kind of annoyed how much better it looks.
Id grab one, but the thing holding me back is part 3 and whether the Pro would be able to run it at 60 with good visuals given they are considering UE5.
You just had to tease me again by showing the 30th Anniversary PS5 Pro that I wasn't able to get, because my bank blocked the transaction during checkout, thinking it was fraud. 😭
I’m waiting for the pro. I could not stomach the performance mode and I don’t like 30FPS. Knew a pro was coming out and was happy to wait.
If I ever want trustworthy detailed tech reviews I go straight to you guys first, and because of your tech reviews on the pro I have mine coming at launch
I play my ps5 on a 1080p tv, and I couldn’t play it at 60 due to the blur. It doesn’t look like 720 to me even. I got the pro and and gonna upgrade a 4k oled.
Better to add some ray tracing and use PSSR instead of native 4k, probably hard to see any difference between upscaling and native for most people anyway.
