    Hey papa taco!! Great video. I like both the polishers for sure. Both unique with throws. The m15 pro did a quicker job. I don’t have the eye like Fab does cuz they both looked similar in results to me. But yes, the m15 pro wobbles a little more because of the throw. Same thing threw me off at first after I used my maxshine m8s which is a really nice polisher as well which wobbles less than m15 pro 2.

    • @PapaSmurf918Detail
      @PapaSmurf918Detail  4 года назад +1

      Thanks Jason!! Yeah the wobble I'm minor but it's a sacrifice with the long throw. Not a big deal to me though. The M15 pro did yield a slight difference in correcting. I didn't notice until I watched closely in the video. Very minor though. 1 more pass would have made up for it👍

    Papa very nice video! Spot on about the 5” backing plate you are the first person I ever saw mention that. - I think 5.5” pads are perfect size. For smaller areas I use griot mini G8.
    If you haven’t tried them, check out the Lake Country HDO pads. They were made specifically for long throws. I love the dual layer for stability - only thing is pricier and is it makes it harder to clean (you can’t just squeeze them).
    I heard that griot was going to add the variable speed feature to the g9 but they just haven’t gotten around to it yet. Griot also gives you lifetime guarantee against defects. I’m not knocking the maxshine, it looks to be a great value like a lot of their products.

    • @PapaSmurf918Detail
      @PapaSmurf918Detail  4 года назад +1

      Thanks man! Appreciate that! Definitely feel the 5.5 inch pads are perfect! Having the G8 is perfect for all the tiny areas and body lines👍. I have not tried the LC HDO pads yet. I did just pick up the LC Microfiber finish pads. Looking forward to testing em. I'll look into those pads! Price may be higher but if they work well it will be worth it. Yeah, I heard they were supposed to do that on the G9 V2.. but like you said. Haven't seen it. I have my eye on the new Boss g15 and G21 though! Maxshine isn't a bad polisher considering price! I just did a washer modnand swapped out the grease on my M15 Pro. Made a big difference. Looking forward to testing it as well!

    I know this is an old video but this is still a relevant topic: the stalling on the M15 Pro. I honestly think it comes down to the bearing that allows the backing plate to spin. On my 15 year old porter cable the backing plate spins super easily. Turn it with your finger and it just spins. My M15 Pro however has a much tighter bearing. I think thats killing it. You can kind of see the same thing if you watch closely in this video. When you're dry firing those buffers off the panel - as soon as you stop the MaxShine, the backing plate stops. When you shut off the Griots the pad keeps spinning for quite a while. Sad that a bearing is keeping the MaxShine from being a much, much better machine.

    • @PapaSmurf918Detail
      @PapaSmurf918Detail  8 дней назад

      Absolutely a relevant topic! And thank you for watching! Yes. Free spin should be there 100% I think quality control comes into play as well, my replacement unit I still have is a beast! Since then I've moved to shinemate which is an absolute great unit... still have all my maxshine, and griots as well. Cycle through em here an there but 85% of time I grab my Shinemate ex620... when I need a shorter throw I'll grab my G9 from griots. 🤙

    • @Apophis-en9pi
      @Apophis-en9pi 8 дней назад +1

      @@PapaSmurf918Detail Do you recall if your replacement M15 Pro spun any better? I'm actually about to do my first correction with the M15 Pro II. If it doesn't work out I have other buffers I can fall back on. But I'll be pretty disappointed. I'm really excited to use the M15 Pro.

    • @PapaSmurf918Detail
      @PapaSmurf918Detail  8 дней назад +1

      @Apophis-en9pi yes it did. And it's a powerhouse. My only con that I don't like is that the air vent vents directly into your hand.. I hold the head with my left hand lol. But I believe that maxshine has come a long way since my video was done. I like to think the quality control is much better. 👍

    • @Apophis-en9pi
      @Apophis-en9pi 4 дня назад +1

      @@PapaSmurf918Detail Did a little more research and I think they changed bearing suppliers as the bearing is now a feature listed on MaxShine's website.
      I'm LOVING the M15 Pro Series II, but I just found out the EX620 5/15 is literally the same price. Kind of regret not getting the ShineMate, but so far the M15 Pro has been ok. The bearing broke in quite well after about an hour of use. Really only bogs for me on sharp curves. And honestly that's the machine telling you to back off, pretty sure any long throw DA would stop rotation on the areas it's doing that for me.
      I might reach out to them about possibly trading up. Are they still the same company?

    • @PapaSmurf918Detail
      @PapaSmurf918Detail  4 дня назад

      @Apophis-en9pi that's great to hear! Yeah, I believe they are the same company but ti my knowledge they just kept going through people an management that it was taking a toll as they weren't getting established... hey, my shinemate still stalls... all DA polishers do. Your right it's telling you back off and as well hey I'm stalling to save you. Forced rotation is the way to go or rotory if your worried about stalling 👍👍👍

    Congrats on 900. I subscribed. I’ve been watching I guarantee 100s of different ppl over past couple months and you are the only one I subbed to. It’s great to meet someone honest and not just saying stuff from being sponsored. So my question is, for someone getting started in this would you recommend the g6 or g9?

    • @PapaSmurf918Detail
      @PapaSmurf918Detail  4 года назад +1

      Thank you SO much! I appreciate that!!! So, if your just getting started out buying your firstpolisher, I'd recommend the Griots G9 ( they don't make the G6 anymore, the G9 replaced the G6 👍) or another good starter polisher for under 100 bucks is the Maxshine M8s. I love my G9 and I think it's a fantastic entry level polisher👍 for sure snag up a 5 inch backplate and swap out the 6" that comes with it. Pick up some orange foam pads and black foam pads from them to go with it. Your going to want the 5.5 inch pads to accommodate the 5" backplate. As far as compounds and polishes. You can start with the Griots complete compound/polish. Or whT I started with was the Meguiar's Ultimate Compound/Polish. Play around on the paint and have fun! Just keep the polisher moving and don't think to much about hurting paint! Foam pads ( in general ) are pretty safe. 👍🤙 any other questions feel free to ask man! Take it easy!!✊

    • @PapaSmurf918Detail
      @PapaSmurf918Detail  4 года назад

      Sorry I didn't see you had replied again! So as far as pads? So Lake Country Pads, buff N shine pads, and rupes pads are all fantastic brands to choose from. I recommend foam only to get your feet wet and get some time with a polisher. But, I think you will learn VERY quick. Once your comfortable then bump up to microfiber cutting/finishing pads, I love the Buff n shine urofiber 50/50 pad. Teamed up with 3d One hybrid compound and polish it works very well on softer ( Japanese) manufacturing clear coats.. the harder clears tend to need more aggressive on the cut BUT when cutting heavy you will most times micro marr the paint and leave it hazy.. that's when you swap to your foam pad. Foam pads are great for finishing down after your heavy cut to remove marring and clear up that haze👍👍

    I have a Shinemaster M8S and it has really worked well for me. I will be doing some buffing using mainly an AIO polish with the M8S but have been considering upgrading to the better Maxshine in the near future. I have the big Dewalt rotary polisher that I have used once with excellent results but I'm too skeptical to use it on a customers car unless it is a disaster car. I might even sell the Dewalt to fund my next polisher. I sure would love to get ahold of the Dewalt cordless buffer but it's a bit on the expensive side.

      Thanks man!! Ummm.. if you have stickers on the paint I'd put some tape ( I use the blue 3m tape ) over the stickers just in case. As far as emblems I've never had a problem with them.. you don't wanna go like over them purposely but you will be ok. Some are sharp and could tear your foam pads if you stay up against them to long. Hope that makes sense. I've gone over my Honda emblem before when applying a sealant.. soft pad but your not putting much pressure down. If your polishing or correcting just be mindful of badges and what not. 👍

    What’s up brotha. I happened to stumble upon this video and I gotta say it’s been a huge help. I was in the market for a DA Polisher and I believe I found the one (G9). I have 4 cars and I want to ceramic coat them all myself. In order to do that I have to do some paint correction. Hence, why I watched this video 😅. I'm still confused as to what type of pads to use. Some say wool pad some say foam pad. Is it like foam for compound and wool for polish? See I'm not very good at this but I'm willing to learn 🤙🏻. If you have any insight or any tips on helping me out that'd be great. Love the vid and keep up the great work man.

    • @PapaSmurf918Detail
      @PapaSmurf918Detail  4 года назад +2

      Glad my video was helpful man!!! Appreciate you taking the time to watch. As far as pad choice goes, it all depends what type of paint your working on, how bad the defects are, how thin the clear coat is ( although you need a paint depth gauge but if the car is older chances are it may be thinner ) there are lots of factors to consider. You always want to start least aggressive method first.. don't want to jump straight into heavy cut if not necessary. That way you preserve as much of the clear you can. Its VERY thin as is. Id start out with a polish of your choice and a polish pad. Do a few passes and check your work. If your happy with the defect removal you were able to achieve then stick to that combo👍 if not, you could either bump up to a more aggressive foam pad like a correction foam pad ( will be more dense and feel slightly more stiff ) and try that with your polish.. check your work and so on. If your still not happy then move to a compound ( which is more aggressive than the polish ) and try a few passes with that and then check your work. It's a process and you may need to do a few test sections ( always choose a different test spot that way your not mowing down clear in 1 spot 👍) before you actually find the combination your looking for. Then get the car done👍 hope that helps man. Feel free to pick my brain anytime bro. I'll be doing a livestream today the 14th if you get this in time. 2pm PST. Great way to ask questions and get quick answers across to you an my subs✊✊✊ take care man!

    How about the density of the lacquer on the car. What I mean is how many times can you do this to your car without cutting down into the paint on the body of the vehicle. Because I know when you use compound isn’t it taken off the clearcoat from the car. Any suggestions and comments on that you can fill me in on thanks. Great video I learned a lot from this morning I feel a little bit more comfortable in buying the product the G9 that is and then doing my own detailing.

    • @PapaSmurf918Detail
      @PapaSmurf918Detail  3 года назад

      So every car is different in terms of Clearcoat thickness... having a paint depth gauge is key to knowing.. I've been ok cause I tread lightly.. the test hood I honestly don't care if I burn through lol. That's what it's for. But, the goal is to start least aggressive to help preserve the clear. Cutting as little as possible to achieve your goal. Don't chase scratches that are deep. If you can feel it with your nail it's not going to polish out. It can be made better though and less noticeable in some cases. Appreciate you tuning in and if you have any other questions don't hesitate my friend!

      Thanks for subscribing! Anytime you polish you wanna make sure you wash and decontaminate the paint. If there is protection on the paint that is fresh then I usually like to use poorboys world strip down to help get the protection off the paint. After, I follow up with a decon of iron remover ( not always needed ) then I clay the vehicle using a clay towel or traditional clay. I just find the clay towel/mitt much faster. The reason is to get the paint as bare as possible. The contamination, if not removed will cause a bunch of issues in the polishing stage such as marring and your pads will be full of it and it's a never ending chase of WHY on earth can't I get results lol. As far as wax. That's totally up to you as there are MANY forms of protection. Most common are spray sealants. Silica spray sealants are easy to apply and are pretty durable. For example. Griots 3-1 ceramic wax is a great one found local at autozone. It's around 22 bucks and is a great product. 👍 Hyperclean Sliq is another one. Turtlewax ceramic spray coating another one. Just a few I named I've used with good results. Now when time to polish don't jump into a compound. You wanna start with a polish and polish pad and do some test passes. See what you get then adjust accordingly 👍. Check out my polishing 101 video I have. Not to far back in my vids 🤙🤙

    So I'm looking at buying my first polisher. It seems the shorter throw is easier to manage for beginners from what you said and what I've read elsewhere. Any reason that you didn't compare the M8Pro v the G9? That seems more apples to apples. Could that have changed your opinion?

      Glenn, I'm my experience the 9mm throw on the G9 isn't any harder to manage than the 15mm throw.. now the 21mm yes. There is a bit of a difference.. but I think the main thing reason I'd recommend a shorter throw is slower defect removal.. which will give you more time to get comfortable underneath a polisher 👍. There was no specific reason I didn't choose the m8 pro I just don't own one. Also, the G9 and M15pro were the 2 polishers that were " talked about " a lot. Hope this helps!

    Hey i just ordered a Griot's G9 polisher as I am a complete beginner in the paint correction world and wanted to try a DIY paint correction and ceramic coating. What polish and compound/pads would you recommend for white paint with a good amount of swirls. White honda accord and im looking to have it nice and prepped for a ceramic coating

    • @PapaSmurf918Detail
      @PapaSmurf918Detail  4 года назад

      Brindan, so if you have never done any kind of polishing before I'd start off somewhere I'd be safe. General rule of thumb you always want to start the least aggressive method first. You want to remove the least amount of clear coat you can while still achieving the defect removal your happy with. There are tons of variables man. But when it comes to a coating the paint must be perfect or as perfect as your happy with. The only way to remove a true coating is by abrasive as polishing off. With that being said, Honda clear is in the softer side so you won't need much. It's up to you if you want to do a 1 step polish or 2 step compound then polish. I have been absolutely loving the Rupes Pads.!!! For that white Honda paint I'd probably go with a Yellow Rupes pad and team that up with 3d ONE hybrid compound/polish. I feel that would be a great starting point. Do a test section and check your work. If you are happy with the amount of defect removal you got then stick to that combo!👍🏻👍🏻 if you need more cut you could step up to a slightly more aggressive pad if you wish. However don't go chase scratches you want to leave as much clear as possible 👍🏻. Hope this helps! Also, I highly recommend getting the 5" backplate with your G9 fitted with the 5 inch Rupes Yellow pad 👌🏻 let me know if you have any other questions!

    • @brindan1609
      @brindan1609 4 года назад +1

      PapaSmurf918 wow thanks so much for the thorough reply. I’ll definitely take your advice on the rupes pads. As far as the polishing/compound. I initially planned on using a 2 step with meguiars 105 and 205.. what are your thoughts on this? But I know 3D makes some good stuff so I might have to try that out too. So just to be clear. With that 3D one step, I’d be able to use the yellow pad or something more aggressive if necessary and then go straight to the coating?

    • @PapaSmurf918Detail
      @PapaSmurf918Detail  4 года назад +1

      No problem man! I'm not sure as I have not used the Meguiar's 105/205. I have heard great things though so if that's what you wanna go with I'm sure it will work out just fine👍🏻. What year is your Honda if I may ask? And has it ever been polished before? Have to ask cause the older it is the thinner the clear may be. If I was going to 2 step a Honda it would all depend how bad the defects actually are. You may be able to throw on some 105 on the yellow pad and do a few passes and be surprised at the outcome! It all depends what type of clear your on. Is it hard? Soft? Had it been painted and all that kind of stuff. I know your new to this so I want to stay away from microfiber pads. That would be my go too for a 2 step. Cut with Meguiars Microfiber cutting pad and finish with white/yellow Rupes Foam pad👍🏻the thing about 3D ONE is you can use it to cut with your cutting pad.. then just switch to your finishing pad and still use 3D One as its ability to finish is outstanding.
      Really there are SO many variables man hahaha. I can recommend pads and polishes/compounds but its up to how comfortable you are in the process. It's tough cause I know your coating it and you want it to be perfect. But perfect may come at a cost of possibly compromising your clear. I say 3d One and Rupes Yellow pad and see what that can get you. It may be safer to just IF needed maybe do an extra pass or 2 instead of bumping up to more aggressive. I really hope this makes sense man!
      I have a video on2 stepping a black 16 Honda accord and well as if you go back a little further a Blue 14 accord.. both different paints.. the blue was much softer than the black... check em out if you want👍🏻 as well as the BRZ polish video... extreme soft paint.. just so you get an idea and what not.

(Its a spray polish) I also grabbed oberks system there compound and polish with there microfiber pad and red foam pad for there polish and I grabbed koch chemies compound and polish with there cutting and polish foam pads. I picked up the lake country 4000 pad washer so I dont have to get a shit ton of pads but Im setting up test panels and practicing and getting familiar with the process and the g21 was gifted from my boss it seems like its so powerful on speed 1 and is like a chainsaw. I think its too much power for a beginner and heavy as shit but granted on gelcoat (boats) at work im running it while on a ladder but gelcoat is more forgiving than paint. I appreciate your knowledge man. Ill contact yea in the near future!! Thanks again!! oh yea the g8 or g13 for a small polisher, what do you suggest?

      Hey man it's no problem at all! ✊️🤝 all those polishes an compounds are ALL great. It's good to have variety as well. Test sections are your best friend! Whenever the time comes just start out with a polish and light foam pad and sew where that gets you. Don't jump right into that purple wool pad right off bat👍 if the polish and foam pad are not getting you the defect removal you want then try just bumping up to cutting compound but stick with that foam pad. Do some passes and check your work. If still isn't getting you what you want, then bump up pad. 🤙 I like to start least aggressive that way you leave as much clear as ya can! Your absolutely correct about gel coat! That stuff is rock solid 😄 test panels and practice is perfect man you'll have a blast and get some fantastic results 🤜🤛 Now, G8 or G13 I'd say G13 for sure. I love the G8 but that lil bit of extra throw will help with results.. just keep in mind the smaller throw is easier to get precise up to a line, the longer throw will be a lil more difficult. All in all both would be just fine, if I had the Chance I'd grab the G13🤙

      Haris, yes. My original m15pro started to stall bad. Contacted and they couldn't fix so they upgraded me to the m15proII and it's muuuuch better. Still, my shinemate is powerful.. it will stall still but nowhere like my m15pro did. Appreciate you taking the time to watch!

      @@harisyoung4110 that's to lube the backing plate just in case pressure pushes it to hit the shroud on the machine.. that could cause stalling. They also include a washer to bring backplate away but I did both and didn't help.
