Would you be more willing to buy it if it had a battery pack?
powering a 1000W motor with a battery pack would require a massive battery to power for any reasonable amount of time. Hopefully battery technology will make a big leap forward soon so that we could have that!
*Please* review the new Adam's Swirl Killer cordless! At about $250, half the price of the Flex, for the same package, I'm very curious how it performs. Real world battery life and charge times and performance compared to the corded version. Adam's claims it actually has a bit more balance and even power than the corded brother. Next to no in depth quality content of cordless DAs out there.. 😔
@@jdisdetermined If you do a bit of searching, I believe that you could find the tool that Adam's bought, for a lot cheaper. When they came out with that cordless orbital it only took a few days for a couple of folks to find it on a Chinese wholesaler site (i.e. Alibaba). From what I recall, you can get that tool for about $40. It just won't have the Adam's name on it, and I think it is a different color.
@@mattmiller1585 oh thats a bummer..😔 so they just buy the units, rebrand and package and spike the price?? 😲
@@jdisdetermined Yeah, it's fairly common in the industry. GG does all of their own design, so you won't find one of those tools on a wholesaler website. I would like to see what kind of capability that cordless tool had, though. I'd want to see if it bogged down under pressure.
After watching about 10 videos on the G9, this is the only video complaining about vibration.
I think you were getting more vibration do to working on a panel that didn't seem to be sturdy or supported well. The door looked like it was moving around very easily. And ya I'm glad it doesn't have a variable speed trigger. I would rather set my speed and lock it down. Alot easier then trying to hold a trigger at a certain time for a long period of time. Looks like an amazing product for the price
Put that door on a car actually mounted and I bet it won’t vibrate....
Exactly!! This is not a accurate way to demonstrate a tool in a real world situation for people viewing this video.
Why does it vibrates in different positions?
Sooo a quick update here, polished out a large suv, the results were amazing. As far as vibration? Almost none at all. We used 6 in pads.
Would u recommend it?
@@weeklygamer3607 Yup!🙂
I agree I bought it used on 5” backing plate no vibration at all
What pads you recommend for moderate defects and finishing pad?
@@nyquil07na38 go rupes blue wool pad for swirls and stray scratches, then go a rupes polishing pad for polishing. The blue coarse cutting compound by rupes is amazing too
I have the G9. I used it to remove deep scratches, and apply finish. I can operate it one handed. Does it vibrate-yes. Does it vibrate too much-no. This is my first machine other than the $25 ones. I’m satisfied.
It’s def a huge upgrade from a $25 machine.
My only complaint is the speed control dial is too easy to bump while working. Multiple times I was startled out of the ‘zone’ because of an accidental dial bump.
I have one and I love it. I used it to polish a boat and dropped it in salt water and it still works lol
Just bought it. Can't wait to use it.
Hey Jimbo. Just sub'ed. You were right. I just got the G9 today and opened it and did a test run. It vibrates like hell from speed 4-6. Returning it. Incidentally I also have a TorqX and it seemed a lot smoother than the G9.Some here say their G9 had no vibration. Note, I never changed the original pad or anything to off set the counter balance. So I might have gotten a bad one. I think MaxShine actually makes this for Griots to their specifications.
Used mine for the first time today. The car? My car. Low mile 2014 CLS 550. The job? Clay and wax. Used the 6” to both apply and buff off the wax. The vibrating honestly didn’t bother me. It’s just one car. Was a little puzzled by the fact that it’s not forced rotation. But it got the job done with a little pressure. You do have to gauge your downward pressure indeed to make sure it doesn’t stall. Just like you said. I now know I’ll need a 3” plate for detail work. The 6” is too big for anything but big open spaces. I’m happy with it though.
Jimbo, I own this machine and I can say with confidence that this machine has hardly any vibration, I believe what your feeling is that Adams pad
Agreed. Either that or it's bc he is polishing a panel on a flimsy stand. You can see the door wobbling without the polisher even on.
TonyTheTechnician I know, so unfair to the g9
@@zacharycifers5016 agreed. I think it's a great polisher especially for the price. And not having a variable speed trigger doesn't bother me at all. It's got ramp up speed so that's great. Plus I can lock it in at the speed I want. I'm not detailing a car while holding the trigger half way the entire time lol. Overall I think it's great.
TonyTheTechnician I think it’s a great machine as well especially for the price
I had the G9 for over a year and I agree with you. It vibrates a lot after doing an entire car, but it does provide a lot value for the price.
True!
Have you tried the different weight backong plate screws the machine comes with? They're there specifically so you can tune the vibration out, by changing the weight of the backing plate assembly.
@@BigBear-- What? I have bought this twice and never saw any screws?
@@TechCrazy sorry you're right, I don't know what I was thinking. The new G15 (and G21, I think) are the ones that have the balancing screws.
@@TechCrazy still, you could apply same method/idea to the G9. Either add a washer, or grind some off the screw on the backing pad to adjust the balance. I haven't tried this, just thinking out loud. Or you could drill out various sized holes, or multiple small holes out of the counterbalance - to adjust for vibration...or do the same for the backing pad.
Sooooo I just picked up the G9 about 2 hours ago legit! Just turned the tool on in the garage and briefly tried it, and I Found find very little vibration. I think this machine's going to be awesome for correction work.
Maybe Jimbo didn't eat his Wheaties and his forearms were a little weak from Jack Daniels the night before ?
@@samueladams584 or Jimbo may be coming out with his own polisher soon.... just a wild guess
Mine works great. I use it everyday as a professional detailer. There is no reason to go nuts buying super high priced equipment to apply products.
Don’t get caught up in the “ I need high priced stuff to achieve results. GO SLOW BE PATIENT AND RESULTS WILL COME.
Great review. Thanks. Ive got mild carpal tunnel and was eyeing this over the CG Torq 10fx….UNTIL your comments about the vibration.
Is it considerably more vibration than others in the $150-$225 range?
Any low vibration models you would recommend? Thanks in advance.
You are the only person on about 100 people that says to much vibration it has a little vibration and the pad don’t stall it is a great tool 😎
Forget your hands going numb... my brain is going numb watching this video. I'm pretty sure a battery back would completely throw off the balance of the machine.
I live in tacoma washington and that store is awesome
Do you suggest the G9 or the Griot’s 6 inch polisher for someone just getting into polishing and paint correction. I’ve heard both are great entry level machines, which do you suggest?
have to fix my paint after the detail guy buffed the car and left scratches all over my perfect paint which had a few minor marks i ask him to remove, so sad went from perfect paint to scratched up clear coat , any advise would be appreciated living in Japan S15 Nismo edition upgraded version owner in a lot of pain..... love your vids watched over 40 hours worth and had to like every one of them.. wow that rattle in this polisher is a bit hard....
Do you think it’s better than The previous version
How does it compare to the previous model
Great for begginer!! Very affordable and way to start. I learned from the torq QX. Great for 1 steps with Fast correction cream. Finishes down good. I'm sure this one would be great too
For sure. Well said
I'm confused...you complain about the vibration, yet mentioned nothing about the different weight backing screws that it comes with, specifically for the purpose of tuning any vibration out of the machine. Particularly when changing to different size backing plate. What gives?
Maybe it vibrates, but any company that will give you a credit against a new machine to return an old machine (10 years old) is getting my money and loyalty. Griot's.
valid point for sure.
What's the benefits of variable trigger ? New and looking for my 1st polisher. Does the 5" and 6" back plate come with ? Will a 3" fit ?
I stopped asking myself which is the best for my use and I just came to realize that it would be best to get the Rupes mark III 15mm and end that debate here. I’m very happy with my purchase
I see that Renegade box in the background my bro... #teamrenegade🔥
Did you try it with the original 6inch plate and pad combo?
Modifying the bplate that the machine was intended to use will make it vibrate more for sure
Good to know.. I'm trying to decide on my 1st polisher and little tips like this help
Very good point many polishers need modification to switch backing plates but this machine is actually designed to work with both 5 and 6 inch backing plates.
Maybe vibrating because you're using a pad that is not part of the system? Ruper also vibrates if you don't use their pads.
Jimbo, is that the 5” backing plate designed and balanced specifically for the G9? Also, does it have the same vibration with the 6” backing plate that comes with the machine?
Yes it’s a griots branded backing plate.
Griots lists the 5" VENTED ORBITAL BACKING PLATE
ITEM# 10555 when searching their site for G9 backing plates. Please confirm it is the 10555 as griots has stated their other 5” backing plates may cause vibrations when used on the G9.
I think it’s balanced and works best with a 6” plate.
Auto Detailing Podcast Are you using the Griots 10555 G9 5” backing plate?
Seems like a good machine for beginners, I am wondering about backing plate and vibration
I'm curious if the vibration is just on test hoods or do you also get a lot of vibration on the vehicle as well. Vibration is a big deal for me due to some minor nerve damage. I'm looking at a Rupes as well but the price tag is a bit hard to swallow but I will if it makes that much of a difference. Thanks for the video.
It’s a big difference honestly
@@autodetailingpodcast Thank you
Have you tried a Rupes pad and how that changes the vibration?
I was going to ask if the vibration was less/same/more with the 6" backing plate, but I'm late to the party
It is the same
What do you like/recommend at the same price zone?
Jimbo which one of all the polishers u have used it’s the least vibrating?
rupes by far
Did you switch the backing plate to a 5in ? If so what brand
Does it vibrate more or less than the Porter Cable.
Can you put a 3” backing plate on it like you can the GG6?
trapcracker
Not recommended. Watch the recorded live stream from Griots Garage. They answer this and other questions.
I'm not sure what vibration you feel I have tried the polisher I thinks the vibration is more than tolerable. way less than other even higher priced polishers
Jimbo, I was just getting ready to get the G9 until I watched your video. What stopped me in my tracks is that you said it vibrates a lot and I am trying to find the best polisher that doesn't vibrate. I'm 65 and am tired of vibration. Which polisher in your experience has the least vibration? Thanks ahead of time.
I am a novice and have only tried a few cheep (HF ect polishers). I am 68 and was also worried about vibration on my first personal SUV detail. Spent 8hrs with various 6in pads and compounds. Couldn't believe how little vibration there was, a good bit less than the other polishers I tried. There is just something about the balanced, dampened feel of the G9. Sure there is some vibration and it might not quite be up to the standards of a $600 unit but it just didn't feel like I was manhandling a clunky tool all day, no numbness at all. My back on the other hand!!!! I can't blame that on the G9, it's relatively light. Very happy with purchase. I believe Griots has a money back guarantee.
Great vid! How does this compare to the TorqX polisher that is roughly the same price?
I’ve never tried the torqX
Good question. Maybe someone will do a comparison
I’m trying to decide between this and torqx as well. Torq is on a pretty nice sale but not as good warranty
How does this polisher compare to the max shine M8S? What are your thoughts on this polisher versus the M8S for a beginner?
I use the M15Pro professionally. I’d suggest getting a 15mm throw over 8. You’ll be more efficient with less physical effort. 21mm are great to flat large panels but I find a 15mm throw to be the best all around
Hey Jimbo,
Just wondering what your thoughts are on Adam's spray compound? Thanks!
I like it. I have a full review coming next week
@@autodetailingpodcast Thanks alot, I cant wait.
Would you happen to have a link ? Because I couldn't find it
Hi Jim what did you think the g15 if you have used that
It comes with a 5 AND 6 inch backing plate?
are there any other machines that are under $250 that have soft start, varible trigger 20mm throw and don't vibrate much and get the job done as fast as the best of the best??? shurwood 3500 maybe??? thanks
Jimbo some food for thought I have heavy hands and I feel that if I purchase it because how heavy my hands are it'll counter act the vibration and it would feel a lot smoother. And I have 2 of their polishers I have the entry level I have the boss 21 and never had a problem.
The G15 has different weighted plate fasteners specific for pad size and weight. There is a chart for it under product information. Vibration is loss of balance. I’m not an engineer, but I bet it’s about the pad weight and size/thickness.
Hi Jimbo...I'm looking for a (NEW) EMPTY/REPLACEMENT BOTTLE WITH SPRAYER for P&S BRAKE BUSTER. Would you happen to know where I can get one ?
Amazon
Have you tried the new Torq 15 DA? Curious how the Griots would compare to it. I realize it is 9mm throw where the Torq is 15mm. I am more interested in the smoothness of the machine and build quality.
Having to push the stop-start button every time and ramp it up to full speed every time, is a huge pass for me on the Torx.
I think the vibration you're getting is based on pad being used.
In your opinion do you feel as if the swirl killer vibrates less?
I am not a pro by any means but wouldn't the trigger not being variable be offset by the speed dialer? Just my thoughts. Thanks
chris simon yes but new machines have a trigger that you can adjust the speed without changing the speed dial. That way if you come up to a part on the car that’s tricky or you want to slow down real quick then pick it right back up you can do so without adjusting the speed dial. It’s not a huge deal at all it’s more for convenience
@@autodetailingpodcast Yes agreed
Guess what? I bought one again this thanksgiving as it was on sale and wanted to give it another go. Same thing. Terrible vibration. Sent it back. Either the couter balance is not weighted properly or the shaft bearings are not centered. It really had my hand buzzing! Griots has some work to do here....
hows the vibration VS the GG6 & Porter Cable 7424xp?
Have the porter cable.. i polish my 2 cars twice a year so i cant justify the replacement
For the price, it worth every penny for those who want to start detailing or weekend warriors. Problem would be sorting out polishing pads
These are fantastic pads and are color coded for the different jobs you are trying to do~! Super value for all these pads~! ruclips.net/video/aUOnrLz9u_M/видео.htmlsi=un-EzSEb26QlvoHw
Have you reviewed the Adams swirl killer polisher yet?
Not yet. I saw the cordless at their shop. It has some thing I like and a lot I don’t
Your pad and viscosity of product you're using effect the vibration as well.. Didn't think about that?
How about the original one . ? I’m going to buy one soon . But as a Rookie , I don’t want to get a high end one yet .
These are great ones to start with
Jimbo you think the vibration is due to the smaller backing plate? Or have you tried the 6inch? Looks very nice.
Both are the same
Any recommendations for a machine that is a little quieter?
Pretty critical of a superb machine & product. Maybe you should try the ladies model. Lol
Do you know if it’s quieter than the Porter Cable? Working in an apartment and want the quietest DA possible. Thanks
ya its a bit quieter than a PC
I dont think theyd ever add a batt because they use are more expensive both for the battery n they have better more efficient motor as well which is extremely important when using batteries, non existant when building corded. So i dont ever see them getting a battery until that tech gets way better than it is.
It exists in 220 / 230V European plug?
I can’t for the new flex machine, I only
have rupes but the new machine from flex can be a game changer in the industry. I also like Griots machines a very good machine for a beginner or diy
Wait*
r3ktfahdle Too much vibration
Richard Vacanti what has to much vibration?
Hey guys help me out. I have been using a porter cable 7424 for a few years and I’m tired of the vibration. Which would you choose the g9 or the g15. Thanks
If vibration is an issue just go rupes or flex tbh
Let me save you 10:58min - he says it's an awesome, sturdy and balanced machine for 150$ bucks just that it vibrates a bit too much to the point where your hands can go numb after doing an entire car.
This machine is worth every penny at only $149 especially with the fact Griots will give you money if you trade in your GG6.
"Griot" is a French name. It is pronounced "Gree-oh" or "Gree-ohs" for the possessive.
The counter balance on that model is adjustable. Most of the vibration can be adjusted out. Griot's is not doing a good job of letting people know about that.
new subscriber, love ur videos!! witch machine is better this or the boss version??
limoman 412 this machine is great, I own it; there is no vibration either don’t know why he is saying it does
@@zacharycifers5016 do u use griots pads? i have heard some people say they vibrate when 7sing different pads!! witch doesnt make total sense but who knows!! thanks for responding
limoman 412 I have used a Griot’s waxing pad but that’s about it, I prefer lake country smart pads, also using a 6 inch backing plate could have something to do with it, I use a 5 inch because it’s a lot easier to control
limoman 412 also if you don’t you pad conditioner before you use the pad, that could definitely cause the pad to be stiff which would make the machine vibrate
@@zacharycifers5016 I agree I have the griots G9 polisher, I use 6 /5 in Lake Country pads. And there is zero excessive vibration.
Use with confidence!!! 😎
The cord sucks being removable always messes up an I'm very cautious with my equipment
To make it for a battery you'd need an inverter on it.
