    The carbon is only 20 % of the problem the other 80% is the ash that you can't see inside.Yes you will get a result but it will only last until you put back that 20% carbon because the chemical you bought only dissolves carbon not ash.To dissolve the real problem the ash,you need 25% hcl to 75% water,stop off the narrow pipe and keep filling and emptying the dpf every 30 minutes.The colour of the water when flushing will be dark pink (ash) .Flush out until clear. Now you have cleaned the main problem.

      Wouldn't the HCL affect the metal housing of the DPF?

    • @Pohmell18
      @Pohmell18 Год назад +7

      @@AM-dn4lk It's dilluted and theres one guy who did experiments with DPF materials.
      It slowly dissolved ash but did not react to metals. Obviously it's a 2 step process. remove carbon deposits and then remove ash.
      99% Commercial chemical cleaners just remove the carbon and not the ash itself so pretty pointless considering he took the filter out and went through all that trouble not knowing he didn't actually clean it.
      Yeah, this video is not about cleaning the DPF but just removing carbon.
      You could see at the end how bad the flow through the filter still was.

    • @cjc1103
      @cjc1103 Год назад +1

      There's some more videos by a guy who experimented with all kinds of chemicals. I'll cut to the chase: Remove DPF from vehicle, soak in a plastic tub (obviously wear gloves, safety glasses, protective clothing) (1) Precleaner commerical drain cleaner (sodium hydroxide) - removes soot, (2) Pool acid (muriatic/hydrochloric acid 32%) diluted 4:1 with water - removes ash. Soak for a couple of hours in each solution then rinse. Gets all the ash out. Pressure cleaning may help rinse but use low pressure or you'll damage the ceramic substrate. 4:1 diluted pool acid won't damage the stainless steel DPF case. Then reinstall and do a forced regeneneration.

    • @markanthony284
      @markanthony284 11 месяцев назад +1

      Yep ...totally true, if you don't tackle the Ash problem it will only last a very short time, all those so called " DPFCleaners in a bottle" are a short term fix only, you NEED to dissolve the ash for a totally clean virtually as new DPF ....Fact.@@Pohmell18

    In Germany we go on the Autobahn and drive full speed for 200 km/h to start the regenerationprocess. The DPF gets so hot, that the soot burns away. In this process no harmfull gasses occur. It's the natural Freibrennen how it is engineered to work.

    • @Lars-qp7ys

      If you DPF is full its full you can’t burn it you need too clean it because there is to much ash in it!

    Had one of these 204s with DPF issue. Dealer said it needed a new one! Friend took it to me and I put it on Star. There is a way of forcing DPF regeneration in the car which requires Star and driving the car to a certain temp + over a certain speed for 20 mins or something like that can recall details just now.
    It worked - Car regenerated it's DPF same day on a test drive and didnt bat an eyelid after.

      I'm on my 12th year with the same diesel equiped Ram and have never had any work done on the DPF. It goes weeks between highway trips and have never even seen the DPF regen light come on. The truck is supposed to regen about as often as the range of one tank of fuel.
      Apparently some owners of the 6.7L Cummins have had particulate filters get full to the point where the truck won't regen (not sure how they get to this point). The solution posted on line is to drive the truck in a gear that has the engine over 2,000 rpm and after a time the truck will start to show the DPF filter level go from 100% to 90% to 80% to 70% at which point the regen will start. There are also reports that extended use of the exhaust brake can make the DPF filter level drop.

    Such problems only occur when driving short distances. My Mercedes regenerates its DPF after exactly 1000 km and everything is fine. The vehicle now has almost 300,000 km with the first DPF and I know people who are still traveling over 800,000 km with the first DPF. The problem is the people who buy the wrong car. Diesel is for people who drive long distances.
    Active DPf regeneration can only begin after 10 km. Then another 20-30 km are necessary to complete the regeneration. if someone constantly drives less than 10 km, they
    definitely have the wrong car. The DPF is full again after a few weeks.

    Your mileage doesn't match between both diagnostic screens (0:46 & 5:55). It seems that you have a 2nd car where you want to show us the "cleaned" DPF.
    On the other hand, ash content is very important it shows how much ash remains in the DPF after all the regenerations.
    In this case a forced regeneration would also "clean" the filter.

    You're doing it wrong!! You should wash it in reverse flow, from exhaust to turbocharger. The way you did it you removed only soot which is not a problem, noncombustible ashes are still clogging dpf and are the main cause why dpf loose capacity and need more frequent regeneration.

      I don't know about the Mercedes diesels, but the Cummins, Powerstrokes and Duramax run great with the DPF core removed. You have to trick a couple of sensors or add a tuner to avoid a check engine light. I unplugged my EGR valve in the closed position and have a check engine light that is on all the time. Since I'm used to ignoring the TPMS warning lights it doesn't really bother me.

  • @adelestevens

    A quick note about DPF problems...
    Don't assume the DPF filter is blocked when the warning light comes on.
    There's one thing you must check first.
    Always.. check the air filter!
    True story........
    We had a Honda accord idetc and it was always kept fully serviced by Honda dealer (at considerable cost) , when one day the DPF light came on.
    Honda regenerated the system (£175)
    It was ok for a month and the light came on again ,Honda regenerated the system a second time for another £175 and warned that if it happened again we would need a new DPF filter for over £1k.
    At that point I decided to have a look myself and started at the air intake.
    The filter paper was like a black block of goo coated with dust...even though it had supposedly been changed twice by the dealership!
    One new filter later and a run up and down the local fast road...light went off and car came out of "limp mode".

    Hello, I noticed that you were doing all of your cleaning in the same direction as the exhaust flow. I would have guessed you would want to be doing all the cleaning and rinsing in the opposite direction of the exhaust flow, to effectively be BACKFLUSHING the filter - am I missing something or do you think it makes no difference? I'm getting ready to do this on my TDI and never done it before, but logic would say to backflush rather than forward flush...?

    • @mercmantips
      @mercmantips  4 года назад +4

      Yes you are correct it will be more effective if you do it the opposite direction of exhaust flow, but on this case the opposite direction of the DPF has a long exhaust pipe which is curved, so the jet wash wouldn’t be as effective opposite way, thats why i done it this way because i can get in really well with the jet wash..

      Agreed. I own 2 Cummins, one pre-emmissions M11 and an early emissions ISB (no DEF). The M11 service intervals are twice that of the ISB and I don't have the issue of soot being pumped back into the engine (no EGR cleaning). I have since disabled the EGR system on the ISB and it runs cooler with noticibly more power.

      The dpf pressure sensor is very common, but the dpf can get blocked if the engine does not regenerate the dpf, which happens when driven in town too much and not on the motorway, as long as you take it for a good motorway run often, the dpf should never give you problems..
