    the story of Lapp is honestly one of my favorites in all of souls, maybe even ever. your sole "friend" who's been with you, one way or another, through each of the games, always up to his usual tricks, always persisting. yet, finally, he was able to reach the true end of the world, only to lose himself. We see a Patches that is perhaps the original Patches, before he saw the corruption of the church, an honest, helpful man who wants nothing more than to discover the truth, to discover himself. He helps you, and promises to be your friend even after he recollects himself.
    It is only by your actions that he's able to remember his past. And, like the good old times, he kicks you off a cliff... except this cliff leads not to a pit, but to the way forward. Patches and Lapp have both acknowledged you, just as you have come to acknowledge them. You part ways, not through betrayal or death, but with purpose, a goal to end the rein of the gods and the corruption of the church, to fully unveil the truth.

But the treasure he mentions is actually there, and there's no trap waiting for you.

  • @Rangrok1k
    @Rangrok1k 7 лет назад +117

    Not sure if you found her, but Shira most certainly does not approve of you waking Filianore. I'm not sure if you can trigger this after the boss fight at Filianore's Rest, but if you hug the right edge of the area you'll find a small ruined structure. Walk into it, to the far end, and Shira will "invade" your world (similar to Vilhelm's entrance in the painted world) and face you. Afterwards, go back to Shira's house and the door will be open, and you can claim her armor set.
    Also, if you hug the left wall of the same area, there is a dual greatsword Ringed Knight. Kill him for a Titanite Slab.
    Oh and Alva invades near the Black Witch Set, and Moaning Knight not-Eygon invades in the Shared Grave. There is a Silver Knight invasion, but I see you found it by your weapon choice against Midir.
    EDIT**
    Lastly, just stumbled upon this, but the stone humped hag in the Dreg Heap dies on her own if you progress far enough into the DLC. I'm guessing it's once you beat the boss at Filianore's Rest.

    • @alexhamilton7090
      @alexhamilton7090 7 лет назад +3

      Moaning Knight is definitely Eygon. He gets referenced earlier by one of the Locusts and he drops a blindfold, referencing Irina. At first I thought he might be Morne, since it is Morne's armour, but then I realised he was using the Moaning Shield (hence the name) which was unique to Eygon.

    I think at the end, Patches for once wasn't trying to kill you. At that last point he was instead teaching you a lesson. In DS1, Patches kicks you off a cliff to your death. In DS2, his reincarnation (Pate) tries to trap you if you help him survive. In DS3, he tries to feed you to a Giant and locks you in Firelink to fall to your death. But at the end, he doesn't try to kill you. He kicks you off, to an area he knows you'll survive. He's Patches, he doesn't make mistakes like that if he wants you dead.
    He tells you that every age has the greed of men, perhaps taunting you for falling for his trap one last time. He says he is devoid of all worldly wants, then laughs. But... I don't feel it's a smug laugh. It sounds almost bittersweet. He then sighs and tells you that maybe that's just how humans are. He says he'll put you into his prayers, but not smugly or with the chuckle he's always had, but solemnly. As if letting something go or saying goodbye. He mockingly wishes you a fine Dark Soul, but not to mock you, but to mock what feels like the City itself.
    We saved him from his hollowing, and he promised to remember you as a friend. And he does, he remembers you, this undead who's lasted so long, trolled and killed so many players, he truly remembers you. And then he's gone, all that's left is the memory of his last ruse against you, one last prank to pull, one last undead to scare before he calls it quits. Aside from that, we get his armor, the last thing he left us as a reward for surviving one more time.
    So at the end, he was trying to tell you to not be so greedy, to think a bit more, to trust a bit less, which is the best lesson anyone can teach us in this hellish land, even if it's just a bit too late to matter.
    Patches truly is one of the best friends one could have.

      +Berg Electron Lapp still shows up in the DLC even if you kill him in the base game, so there's no reason to assume that they didn't simply come back to life like us, keep in mind the DLC takes place in the far future though. Weirdly enough we never even know the circumstances of Emma's death if the player doesn't kill her himself. A circle apears below her resembling the offensive spells used by those crawling clerics in the DLC, so she may have been killed by them?

    Comes on now people, it's obvious what's happening. Primordial serpents have been profiting off of mans struggles from the start, you can see almost serpent like symbols on Gwyns armor. They're turning themselves into dragons through the power of souls.

    of the Undead. Its habit of devouring prey

    Just want to point out that the egg imagery in the Fillianore sequence is remarkably like the quote in Demian “The bird fights its way out of the egg. The egg is the world. Who would be born must first destroy a world. The bird flies to God. That God's name is Abraxas.” Now Abraxas is a deity meant to encompass both light and dark, both chaos and order, so in my mind this is a subtle commentary on how maybe the cycle is broken, that rather than have gods who fight to rekindle the age of light or create an age of darkness, the God in power is one beyond the cycle of light and dark, instead encompassing both in one.

    Right when I gave the painter girl the blood of the dark soul, I knew the series has finally come to an end. I decided not to give my name up since the dark soul isn't about me, it's about all of us. For we have all dived and played in From Software and Miyazaki's painted world called the dark souls series. What a wonderful video game series that is dark yet holds hope for humanity as a whole. The real world is foul and broken, we surely have all come to this conclusion. It's the painted worlds from our imagination that gives us the drive to tackle what we call life everyday. Thank you From Software for a wonderful gaming experience that far exceeds any other during this generation.

    Did anyone else figure out that the Old Piligrim Woman is actually High Priestess Emma? In the description of her ashes it says that she was "a wet nurse of royalty", and if we consult the description of the Priestess Ring, it reads "The High Priestess also served as the prince's wet nurse". And just in case you need further convincing, take a look at the ashes' picture - there's a certain ring on one of the fingers :)

      They said that Midir was raised by the Gods (Gwyn) and made vows to protect Fillianore (his daughter) and consume the dark. For he is "immortal" (I assume ageless, still die by stabbing). Also the gods "punished' the pygmy lords by creating their own city hidden at worlds end containing them and their knights who were so close to the power of the abyss, (since humans came from dark their power also comes from the darkness). SO to me it seems Gwyn kept a dragon egg after the battle against the dragons, raised it. Placed the Ringed City on top of the location of the first flame. that's just my thinking. Really amazing to see old places melded with the new from the countless ages. Like earthen peak, anor londo, etc. And how they've changed or see it completely taken over by a different force and twisted in their vision. Alright I'm done typing.

      It's interesting because she wants to create a cold world, which could mean a world without fire, but it is born of blood, so it is possible the world of Bloodborne was created here. Although I don't think I'd want that world to be named after Dat Boi, the character I just beat the game with lol.

      I'm thinking It's Fraampt, considering there's titanite in his mouth. He's known to grind titanite down for you in DS1. And now we know angels are part of the religion of the Church of Londor, who follow Kaathe. So, I'm now rethinking the Serpant statues in Lothric castle altogether.

      There's actually a lot of potential narrative to be gained from that room.
      First of all, there's statues of -a- Primordial Serpent, whether it's Kaathe or Frampt or something else is up to you, but also there's a symbol prominently displayed in this small church that resembles the same symbol that the Sword of Avowal resembles (you see this symbol in multiple places throughout the ringed city, primarily buildings that are the most submerged in the abyssal water), which might possibly link it to the Sable Church.
      Then there's the fact that little church is actually kept secret behind a secret passage...WITHIN a temple that has a monument to Gwyn giving the Pygmy a crown.
      All of that says quite a bit about the situation.

    @tamral31 7 лет назад +98

    I've been trying to decipher what the Man-Locusts are talking about during there little speeches about the dark, and as far as I can guess right now they appear to be talking about various NPCs.
    "One was a wayfaring knight, on an endless, forbidden search.
    Only the Abyss granted closure, if not reunion with his beloved."
    - Most likely this refers to Alva, considering his later appearance within the city and the nod to him being "Wayfaring". Likely the Abyss granting him closure refers to his taking comfort in Zullie, a dark witch.
    "One met the dark with learning. But in the end, learned his knowledge was wanting."
    - This one is tricky. I personally think this is referring to Aldia, who attempted to understand the Dark but only came to appreciate the futility of the curse as a whole ("Beyond the scope of light, beyond the reach of Dark... what could possibly await us?"). This also could be referring to Orbeck or Logan, both of whom responded to their being cursed by adventuring out for knowledge, and both of whom met their fates because of it.
    "One poor girl slew her own kin, but even so, was embraced, enveloped by the Abyss."
    - This is most likely referring to Karla, as the Dark Edge sorcery described how it was "passed from mother to daughter" and "the young girl [if this is indeed Karla herself] never swung it more than once", presumably to kill her mother.
    Other than her, another girl who we know slew her kin would be Seiglinde, though she is as far as we know completely unrelated to the Dark, so unless something happened to her after the events of DS1 this seems unlikely.
    "And so, she lived in fear. Of the dark, of the things that gnawed at her flesh."
    - Obviously Irina, though what is interesting is how the locust claims that "The Abyss has spawned no such creature". Indeed, the insects that we assumed to be haunting Irina are from the Deep, not the Dark, so I wonder how Irina is being affected by them, unless the two forces are more related than even the locusts know.
    "And so, despite his weighty armour, he lived in fear. Of a delicate thing, little more than a girl."
    - Given that this line is from the same locust as the previous one, we can assume this to be Eygon, who also appears later in the DLC. I wonder if he did in fact live in fear of Irina, or lived in fear for her. I always knew he cared ( ˘ ³˘)♥
    If not him, this description could also apply to several characters from DS2, including Raime, Alva and Vendrick himself, though none of them match up to the whole statement as much as Eygon does.
    What's really interesting about all this however, is how the locusts even know about these people. Have the become almost legendary figures throughout the ages? Can the Dark share experiences between it's creations in the same way you talk about how demons do in this video? Very odd.

    • @Droopah1

    • @SaintMarianne
      @SaintMarianne 7 лет назад +25

      I thought the "Poor girl who slew her own kin" was Sirris, since the locust also mentions a "Sunless Sky" and Sirris slew her own grandfather.

    • @tamral31
      @tamral31 7 лет назад +4

      I could totally see that, I completely forgot about her! The only issues I could see with that would be that Sirris has no direct connection with the Abyss, and that the Locust also talked about how she did not find comfort in the moon, which would be a little odd for an acolyte of Gwyndolin. Then again, Sirris is not an active Blade of the Darkmoon according to Yorshka, so maybe she left the order at some point to seek her grandfather? Would her death then be her being "enveloped in the Abyss"?
      EDIT: The specific quote is "Twas a comfort that neither moon nor sunless sky had afforded her before", which yeah, is pretty clearly about Sirris. I suppose that her apparent envelopment in the Abyss must just refer to her taking her own life after the end of her questline, but it was that specific description that made me think it'd be Karla. Guess the Dark ain't picky?

    SPOILERS: Was anyone else disappointed with the ending? Like, there wasn't even a cutscene or didn't wrap up much lore at all. I loved the final fight though for sure, but the fact that you're just left there and it's over without any indication feels weird. Like there should've been at least one final cutscene to send the game off.

      Rolando Carlos Manuel Yeah, that's true. I mean at least it is SOMETHING, but it just felt like an odd way to wrap up the souls series, ya know? Having one final badass cutscene with your character realizing that the world is already dead would've been really sick, but I guess it's dark souls fashion to do it this way.

    I'm the only one sad about the lack of resolution on the "painting a new world" quest?
    You destroy the ringed city, Gael kill what it seen the Royal pygmies, you kill Gael and get the blood, than you go give the Blood tô the girl and all we get is:
    "yeah thanks bro, now I'm gonna paint a new shitty cold as fuck place"

      Personally I felt happy and satisfied. No matter what kind of painting it is, it will still give shelter and comfort to any being that cannot find a place in the outside world.
      And I was honored that she asked to name it after me, but I chose not to give her my name. I'm just a single fragment of the dark souls, of little import or worth. What's important is that we did in fact recover the Dark Souls, and with its power, we can all rest easy.

      I don't think that Gwyn simply took the first flame and moved it to other place, Gwyn had to link the first flame at the first place where it born, and that should be the boss area of Gwyn and Soul of cinder. That's why Gwyn left Anor Londo and returned to the place where he found the first flame and his Soul of Lord.

    +VaatiVidya Did you notice the striking similarities between the ringed city and the city of Londor while you were playing through the dlc? The small Envoy Banner states that Gwynn gifted the ringed city to the pygmies who took the dark soul, who would later become hollow and as Yuria states, Londor is a city of hollows. Another large resemblance to this is that we're told that Londor was founded around a church, and we find the same thing in the ringed city, with the church of Fillianore being at the center of it all. And by far the biggest thing I found during my time playing that hints at me that the ringed city is or is related to Londor, is that if you use your binoculars to look at the tops of the towers from the wall at the start of the area, you can see that the symbol from the Sword of Avowal is all over the ringed city, on the tops of all the biggest towers. Just something I thought was kinda neat ^^

    • @castform57
      @castform57 7 лет назад

      I caught on that the ringed city is indeed londor but I had a constant feeling that it might have been built on top of oolacile.

    • @roningunslinger4511
      @roningunslinger4511 7 лет назад +4

      It's strongly hinted at in game that Farron Swamp is actually where Oolacile used to be, by the prescene of the talking mushroom corpses, Elizabeth's corpse, Dusk's set next to said corpse, and the Oolacile magic scroll all being found there. And another thing pointing towards the ringed city being Londor that I only noticed a few minutes ago, is that there are little figures of Sister Friede carved onto the door going into the church of Felianore

    • @420Ruger
      @420Ruger 7 лет назад +3

      KittyGirl 586 The ringed city is Londor and it also seems to be every other world in dark souls including earthen peak Ds2 and original firelink shrine Ds1. A lot people aren't getting all the refrences because they never played the other two.

      I believe it was the old pigmy lady at the start of the dlc who says that you are at the place where all the great empires go when they lose their might and power.
      This was what she said:
      "At the close of the Age of Fire, all lands meet at the end of the earth.
      Great kingdoms and anaemic townships will be one and the same.
      The great tide of human enterprise, all for naught.
      That's why I'm so taken by this grand sight.
      This must be what it's like to be a god."

    • @Redcloudsrocks
      @Redcloudsrocks 7 лет назад +1

      Well..the demon prince area looks a lot like firelink shrine and..below that far below..in the dark waters of the ringed city, you do find the white trees and items from Oolacile.
      You also turn into a humanity sprite if you use chameleon, It's very possible that it is oolacile

    can you do a final video please. explaining in a fool proof way the entire gist of dark souls up to now. I really still don't understand this game. I get the lore on some parts but I mean the main story like about the dark soul (what is this when was this in play in dark souls 3) I thought it was about linking a fire.
    where is ringed city set because Gael is roided up in the final boss fight. is there a time skip or something. why is patched here... please explain this.

    • @youngbobbyhill1911
      @youngbobbyhill1911 7 лет назад +3

      themanwhohasnohead to be honest I have no idea about the main lore either but I can answer some questions for you. gael went to the ringed city to find a dark soul for the painter girl to make another painting and he found the pygmy lords with the blood all dried up so he wants to finish this and he kills and eats them to get the blood of the dark soul and he gets all cracked out and it ruins his mind and since he is mad and all screwed up he tries to kill you to get your part of the dark soul and the ringed city is all the civilizations all collided and smashed together kinda like those buildings in the back of the kiln of the first flame by the way I recommend looking stuff up because I am still confused as hell on this and the main lore of how everything came to be in souls. it is so obscure or maybe I just need to git gud at lore

      @THIZZAVELI 7 лет назад +11

      A super duper long ass time ago huge ass dragons ruled the earth. Lesser forms of life were around living in darkness and hidden places. There was this powerful force hidden somwhere(the one piece, all spark, the force, ambrosia, the god tree, the odin force, the infinity gems, the holy grail, cosmic egg, lol you get the point). One day 4 lesser beings found it. They all got a piece of it(They call these pieces of it's power "lord souls"). They all became super powerful(gods). They became gods of fire, lightning, and death. But the last lesser being took it's lord soul and vanished. A long time after that they decided that the world belonged to them. So the gods and a few of their offspring decided to take out the dragons cause they were in the way. They had a long war but the battle was even. One day a funny looking picked on and bullied dragon double crossed his race. He joined up with the gods and told them their weakness. End of the age of dragons, it's now the age of fire( aka GODS). All was good until one day the leader of the gods discovered something that disturbed him. He discovered that the 4th god who vanashed, lord soul was the most powerful. The king was a gready bastured and over the many years became paranoid. He thought that one day he might overthrow his kingdom. He eventually found the missing god and tricked him into being his underling. He gave him and his people a city(the ring city) and acted as if they were equals. He left one of his daughters(Fillenor) there (to secretly keep them in check) who was looked upon as a goddess. But this was all apart of the paranoid kings master plan. The ring city was just a trap to isolate them(if you are a naruto fan, they are basically the uchiha clan lol.) He feared that lord soul so much he felt it was evil. So he named it the " DARK SOUL!!!!!!!". 1st he spread nasty rumors about this "dark soul". 2nd he put all kinds of fail safes in place like darkeater Midir etc etc. He even tricked his daughter(R.I.P) into being a fail safe. Saying he would come back for her(he didn't). 3rd he put a curse on them that basically linked their lord souls(THE DARK SOUL) power to the gods. Last, he sacrificed most of his power and that became the final piece of his trap(the first flame). Basically It created "the matrix"(yeah, the movie) for the people of the "dark soul". A never ending loop of bull shit to keep them enslaved. A random person(champion lol) would be picked and they were sent on a epic quest to "link the flame"(Give a piece of their power to the paranoid kings trap) so the world doesn't end. This goes on for ages, while the gods sit back and laugh. Actually the world wont end, the world = the gods remaining top of the food chain. Eventually the trap finally fails and people finally get out of the matrix. There were other ancient beings that were around back during the age of dragons. Who were secretly helping the people of the "dark soul" behind the scenes. Those funny looking long neck creatures with floppy ears. later it was revealed that the god with the "dark soul" was the ancestor of HUMANITY!!!!! End of the age of fire(gods), hello to the age of "darkness/dark"(HUMANITY!!!!!).

      LOL it's crazy how this game was set up. You have to learn the story piece by piece. You have to actually read every item description, talk to every NPC, read signs, look at statues etc. etc. It's easy once you've played DS1 & DS3 up NG+5. There's still some little things I left out too. No need to play DS2, that was a side story.
