I hope Elden Ring includes a "Vanity Slot". A place where cosmetic equipment are equipped, so that they don't take up stat increasing ring slots. For example: Silver Knight's Pendant Effect: Replaces the rolling animation of dodging with a sidestepping animation. No change in I-frames or speed, it is simply a cosmetic change.
yeah Sekiro was definitely a testing ground for future fromsoft titles seeing now how much they're taking from it for Elden ring. i think Miyazaki even said it was an experiment. still they managed to make an "experiment" be my favorite game haha.
And years later that animation (10:10) was finally put to use for Rellana. It's crazy how none of these things have been scraped and are still in FromSoft's engine all these years later.
I think Stormruler was intended for The Nameless King, the storm asthetic of the bossfight matches the sword effects. And maybe you'd knock The Nameless King off his dragon using the WA starting phase 2.
@@Simon200o Yes that is the point but the damage you deal and the fact that parrying stops the boss from doing some of his more dangerous combos makes the fight much easier than if you dont go for parries. Vaati, You're a big part of the reason that Dark Souls 3 is my favorite game I have played thus far. You showed me that the "lore" in a video game is so much more than just "adding something interesting". When I played Dark Souls 3 for the first time, I quit as soon as I entered Wall of Lothric just because it seemed too hard. The sole reason I picked it up again is because I watched one of your videos and you introduced me to the vast world that FromSoft puts in their big titles. I just want to say thank you for making me realize the beauty in the stories that some developers tell the player.
Vaati, if I wasn’t broke and my country’s economy wasn’t a joke, I would have bought all of your merch the day you released it. (Brazil in case you’re wondering)
It's really cool to go back to this video after thoroughly enjoying elden ring, and then seeing content that was repurposed and thinking, "THATS IT, THATS MY BOY"
Warning about Displate from personal experience, my poster has two small (~0.5 mm diameter) "holes" where I think the print got scratched off, but that was how it arrived. It's not noticeable from more than about 2 meters away, though.
Snake soul is now the Tree Spirit enemy in Elden Ring, I can easily imagine them with that pus of man dripping from them. They really remind me of those DS3 enemies.
Vaati my dude, you can't just recommend a movie so casually, only for me to find out one of my favorite movies of all time, to the point that for the first time ever, I bought the manga after watching it. Great video, and a great recommendation!
I wonder if the Idea for the Snake soul was derived from applying the logic of what happened to Manus' corpse in DS1 to dark serpent Kaathe. We know there was the idea he is dead from Yuria's scapped dialouge. Maybe he learned how Manus became something more after he died and tried to replicate that.
its also possible this would have linked back to dark souls 2, since from there we know after Manuses death his soul produced several "daughters" and perhaps Kathes would do the same after his death, these daughters went on to seduce and corrupt the leaders of kingdoms and ultimately bringing them to ruin, exactly as Friede did to the painted world, and (depending on how you interpret usurping the fire) exactly what Yuria is trying to do to you perhaps the snake soul would have been one of the sisters(probably Liliane since she doesent really exist in the current version) revealing her true form to fight you like Nashandra does, also of note is that Magnus had four daughters, 3 malicious while the fourth was redeemed threw the companionship of the very person she plotted against, Karlas ashes imply she either is one of manuses daughters or at least a similar daughter of the abyss, and is implied to be the person Alva was seeking, Alva is similarly noted to have found comfort and purpose in someone who once plotted against him
Some additional fun lore for Executioner Smough: in New Guinea, a tribe of pygmy’s that practiced cannibalism succumbed to a disease called “kuru.” The most noticeable symptom of kuru was fits of manic laughter. A trait we also see in the Executioner.
The way I do this is a watch your videos once enjoy the lore. Then I come back before I go to bed, close my eyes and ur awesome voice makes me fall asleep
You have the most gentle, harmonic, relaxing voice! As an (obvious) consumer of ASMR I can tell you that your voice (and especially lore videos!) are the most amazing ASMR ever, and I often re-listen to your content at bedtime to feel cozy and become lulled into a (usually DS themed...) sleep.
After revisiting these videos it's good to see that this animation 10:04 got put to good use for Rellana in Shadow of the Erdtree. Also this one at 11:38 reminds me of the Phantom Slash Ash of War from Elden Ring also

And the ledo summon turns into the summon system in elden ring lol
The Ashen Lake always reminded me of that scene in Nausicaa where you see all the tree trunks far underground
Definitely inspired by nausicaä
Yes so true
I actually watched it because Vaati mentioned Nausicaa it in the past when talking about world design!
I hope Elden Ring includes a "Vanity Slot".
A place where cosmetic equipment are equipped, so that they don't take up stat increasing ring slots.
For example:
Silver Knight's Pendant
Effect:
Replaces the rolling animation of dodging with a sidestepping animation.
No change in I-frames or speed, it is simply a cosmetic change.
Cinders mod: hello there!
oh man that Old King Doran reference went way over my head all this time! so cool, i love demons souls
If you love it so much why don't you marry it then?
So you say you love Demon's Souls... *Name every demon*
... They can both be parried. Wonder if that's another reference to him...
@@gloomylobster111 Bro, you didn't have to murder him like that.
Crazy that he was right about the jumping and sneaking in Elden Ring.
thought the same yeah :D
And the Knight Ledo summon seems like a precursor to the new summoning system.
yeah Sekiro was definitely a testing ground for future fromsoft titles seeing now how much they're taking from it for Elden ring. i think Miyazaki even said it was an experiment. still they managed to make an "experiment" be my favorite game haha.
@Scr8 Up Factz perhaps the havel follower would have had it in order to kill dragons and it would help with the fight first phase or something.
@Scr8 Up Factz havel's armor set is on the rempart of farron keep, after killing him in dragon peek you can find his set near the rock's demon
But what about the catacombs crab? We STILL don't know what it means!
it means time for crab
Limit will spend the rest of his life trying to figure it out
@@dryboneskirby As will I.

The last time I was this early Nameless King still had a name.

Its fun looking back at this video and seeing the ground work for things that appear in elden ring. Take the Leto summon item for example.
"Sulyvahn was suppose to be the final boss"
That explains his insane moveset. Always wondered why he is the guy that always kicks my ass the hardest
and ability to parry him which makes the fight way to easy once you practice it a little also would be a nice callback to Gwyn
@@konieczny3576 good point!
Sulyvahn as a character wasn't supposed to be the final boss they just ended up reusing the final bosses model and moveset for a new character
@@konieczny3576 this is the point, isn't it? When you practice a boss fight it becomes easier.
@@Simon200o Yes that is the point but the damage you deal and the fact that parrying stops the boss from doing some of his more dangerous combos makes the fight much easier than if you dont go for parries. Pontiff and Gwyn can both be almost cheesed by parrying while bosses that cant be parried like SoC or NK are much more challenging.
The fact that this game is nearly 5 years old and there are still aspects of the lore that we’re just now discovering is just beautiful. And to think I’ve heard people say that DS3 lacks in lore. Ridiculous. Excellent video. I can and HAVE binged your videos for hours and hours.
Except this is all cut content. Can't really be considered lore if it's not actually part of the game.
cannasaurus-rex I think it can
Incredibly dissatisfied with this Vaati... Old Man already told me about Anri's head... You'll be hearing from my lawyers

It's super cool to see everyone doing more branched out stuff (Liam's in school last I heard so that's pretty awesome for him) but I can't help miss the "friends on the couch" LP style feel.
I love the idea the the soul of cinder is every character you’ve played through the previous games all in one. Something from every play type. It’s a cool boss and great lore
It's all of that, as well as gwyn, he became a husk of himself by dark souls 1, his power was used in the soul of cinder, the crazy ass lightning spells. Most definitely Gwyn
@@sabastjanadams1829 yeah fuck those lightning spells 😂
I'll never be able to take the wedding scene seriously for the rest of my life
Vaati thank you so much for helping me fall in love with everything that is dark souls. You're voice is so nice to listen to. You're videos have shown me a deep world of mystery and depth. These games are so much more then just the "hard" game to die a bunch in. You put in the same effort telling these tales that you can tell FromSoftware put into these games. The entire soulsborne series is one of the most masterfully creative pieces of true human art.
The layers of the Sea of Corruption in Nausicaa also inspired the Blighttown to Ash Lake transition in Dark Souls. The lake especially looks like the "Vaults" bottom layer.
Seems like Sekiro really was Elden Rings testing ground for the jumping and stealth mechanics :O
3:25
Gundyr: So as I pray, unlimited blade works!
The more cut content in DS3 i learn about the more i feel like we really got something that did not live up to its' potential.
Just like ds2
Just like DS1 as well

Thanks Vaati, this video is way better than a "prepare to cry", i loved the intro and your attitude haha
Okay so coming back to this after Elden Ring and seeing how much stealth you can get away with while crouched/muted/invisible is kinda crazy.
I've literally just been watching loads of lore videos for the first time in ages, what a coincidence!
Sameeee
Vaati's call out about Sekiro being a test bed for Elden Ring features looks 1000% accurate now, especially because it doesn't look like they have any more follow on support for Sekiro
watching this now after the elden ring network test, it’s really interesting to see how a lot of these cut concepts and content are actually making their way into elden ring
Its crazy watching this and seeing that tons of these features in Elden Ring were actually cut content from Dark Souls 3.

Can't imagine how badass Sulyvahn could have been if he was the final boss. I can totally see him summoning summoning 4 different stands with different weapons and movesets, using ice magic and many other things.
Pedro Lacerda are you iranian, because our country’s economy is also a joke.
The idea of basing an individuals worth by the segment or context they are in is something I wish was changed

I'm rewatching this after playing elden ring and have to say the speculation about what should be added to Elden ring aged like fine wine.
I've been waiting for Maria's video for so long.
Vaati makes a joke about Maria's video.
I'm not mad, just sad :'(
It's really cool to go back to this video after thoroughly enjoying elden ring, and then seeing content that was repurposed and thinking, "THATS IT, THATS MY BOY"
10:10 Rellana buff animation. Another example of From beautifully reusing their scrapped assets
Warning about Displate from personal experience, my poster has two small (~0.5 mm diameter) "holes" where I think the print got scratched off, but that was how it arrived.
It's not noticeable from more than about 2 meters away, though.
Can't you get a replacement?
You were on point with the idea that sekiro's mechanics were going to greatly shape up elden ring's gameplay.
It seems a lot of the cut features are coming back to Elden Ring.
Fascinating to see how many of these cut things they ended up working into elden ring mechanic wise.
Snake soul is now the Tree Spirit enemy in Elden Ring, I can easily imagine them with that pus of man dripping from them. They really remind me of those DS3 enemies.
12:39
Player: "What!? You can turn into my wife?"
Anri: "Ahuh huh huh!"
And so he never did release that lady Maria prepare to cry video...
1:03 funny seeing this after playing ER.
" Experimented with crouched, stealthy movement. " *Glances over at Elden Ring*
Maybe he learned how Manus became something more after he died and tried to replicate that.
its also possible this would have linked back to dark souls 2, since from there we know after Manuses death his soul produced several "daughters" and perhaps Kathes would do the same after his death, these daughters went on to seduce and corrupt the leaders of kingdoms and ultimately bringing them to ruin, exactly as Friede did to the painted world, and (depending on how you interpret usurping the fire) exactly what Yuria is trying to do to you
perhaps the snake soul would have been one of the sisters(probably Liliane since she doesent really exist in the current version) revealing her true form to fight you like Nashandra does, also of note is that Magnus had four daughters, 3 malicious while the fourth was redeemed threw the companionship of the very person she plotted against, Karlas ashes imply she either is one of manuses daughters or at least a similar daughter of the abyss, and is implied to be the person Alva was seeking, Alva is similarly noted to have found comfort and purpose in someone who once plotted against him
That future souls painting is literally hellpoint now.
Gwyn's wife is obviously Solaire, how can you not know that?

The way I do this is a watch your videos once enjoy the lore. Then I come back before I go to bed, close my eyes and ur awesome voice makes me fall asleep
You have the most gentle, harmonic, relaxing voice! As an (obvious) consumer of ASMR I can tell you that your voice (and especially lore videos!) are the most amazing ASMR ever, and I often re-listen to your content at bedtime to feel cozy and become lulled into a (usually DS themed...) sleep.
ASMR makes me feel paranoid is that normal?
1:18 I'm guessing this is what the elden ring stealth will be like. That is if they haven't just used up all their stealth gameplay in sekiro.

Okay, we need to display Dark Souls 2's animation in this program, so we can see how truly shit the hitboxes in that game were
11:58 id imagine it's an item similar to the carving item where it would play the giant call and summon ledo.
I was playing through NG+5 and happened to look at Black Hand Gottard in front of the Archives. He's not dead, his eyes are blinking.
After revisiting these videos it's good to see that this animation 10:04 got put to good use for Rellana in Shadow of the Erdtree. Also this one at 11:38 reminds me of the Phantom Slash Ash of War from Elden Ring also
