I'm pretty sure that the serpents in the courtyard are a more developed version of the pus of man, it's the only thing from Lothric castle that resembles a snake.
Weavester _ this man has got the shit down
Yeah that seems logic
Thank god I'm not the only one who realized this. That was literally the first thing I thought when seeing them, and I was shocked when Vaati didn't mention it immediately.
That is a very good point yo
gj man, honestly feel stupid for not being able to point it out xd
"Middlefinger Kirk"
Damn Vaati, tell him how you really feel.
Lol
:(
Vincent Nguyen haha I loved when he said that, great little statement that adds so much to the feel of the video

Middle finger Kirk... it all makes sence now😂

Only a day?
holob, u guys can beat it ?
wtf? every time i see this type of comments i feel more like a god of some sort defeating all bosses in max 2nd try (most of them i beat first time tbh)
Dang, if you can't beat midir then you will never in your whole entire life will be able to platinum hollow knight.

That's his name in Japanese. It was changed for the english version (for obvious reasons)
I wonder if there's a player online with the original name posing as him. X-D
They should have kept that name, it suits him perfectly in the edgiest (thorniest?) way
Guessing it's not an obscene gesture in Japan
i would say that patches wasnt screwing you over, because later you can summon him for the spear of the church fight which indicates that he really meant what he said about being your friend this time.
Yeah. Thief, tramp and liar or not, he genuinely does seem to have some sort of code of honour. He does save Greirat, after all, though he goes out of his way to make sure Greirat doesn't know it was him. It seems likely to me that the only reason he kicked you, here, rather than just showing you where you needed to go, was for the same reason: he didn't want to damage his reputation. Even at the end of the world.
Patches is fucking weird.
Snowskeeper Ferenczy Not only that but his final piece of dialoque felt a little somber to me. It sounded like he was laughing at himself and not our player, like he knew what he was saying was horse shit. Not only that but he did kick you into the right direction this time. I believe Lapp was the type of person Patches used to be before the world and time pretty much ruined his spirit and sense of self.
Cream Muffin he even drops one of the siegbrews at the earthern-peak bonfire. like a last goodbye gift.
lol and if you return to him outside of the dlc he just acts like nothing happened
This takes place in the future.
did you know in the room in irithyll were smoughs hammer is theres two picture hinting the dlcs since the release of the game
I thought we could access Ashes Of Ariandel by this painting, just like in ds1
we got hints even before that, you know the crow transformers guys right before the first bonfire where you met horace? they can drop the scythe which itself talks about the painted world in the item description

if you beat gael in the ringed city dlc before entering the painted world gael will be gone and the scrap of painting will be on the alter with a small candle stick on it to hold it in place
footprinter2 woah
well, that kinda indicates ringed city events isn't really the future. cuz if you kill gael in the future, why would he disappear from the past??
"Time is convoluted" Don't question it.
footprinter2 I had a simular comment, and someone replied that he already started his journey to find the dark soul of man but still needed your hand in the events of Ashes of Ariendel so he left the scrap for you to find
H20_Inferior interesting but he doesn't disappear when you beat ashes of ariendel he stays there till you kill him in the ringed city
Did anyone else become super depressed when fillianore just instantly became dead once you touched the egg?
no
Old Memes Never Die she was so pretty and pure and selfless and i had to touch the fuggin egg ;-;
Yeah man, u aint alone.
Old Memes Never Die just pay her gods to restore her humanity she's just as hollow as your character just more trippier like it cost 15 million souls to restore my character imagine how much it would cost to fix someone who's been killed by littlerally everyone who has ever laid eyes on her own let alone how many times they've said her name
Jacob Murphy She doesn't have humanity. She's not a human. She's a GODDESS.Wtf are you talking about?
Daniel Antony goddesses are just humans just souly the soul of the human
#21: Gael's messages are unique. In addition to the normal orange soapstone appearance, they have the same sort of skull-flames coming off of them that he does in his second phase. This would seem to imply that, even at the start of the DLC, before he reaches the Ringed City, Gael has already been heavily corrupted by the large number of human souls he's consumed.

majestic bob If you saw he was trolling there because those little shits deal the Holy Zero Damage.
Nah son
My strange theory with the egg is that its Gwyn's attempt at keeping time frozen in the age of fire, but with the egg slowly cracking, time started to become convoluted, unstable. Constantly trying to anchor back to the egg's Age of Fire but kept getting more unstable the more broken it got, and once it fully broke, time was no longer anchored to the age of fire, so it fastforwarded to what the world wold truly be at that point in time.
that is actually a good theory
Gilmore Mizzi I kind of wish Miyazaki went full nuts and once the egg broke, the entire game world would be irreversably turned to ash. Every bonfire teleport brings you to a remote plain of ash miles away from each other.
Cokemonster brings a new sense to the phrase open world
Cokemonster brings a new sense to the phrase open world
Which begs the question, "how did the egg get cracked?" and how in the hell did Gwyn get his hands on it? Filia nore has been locked in the tower for literally thousands of years and not woken up to crack the egg,why is an egg that so powerful it can anchor the passage of time so fragile that it can be cracked by overall wear and tear over the ages? Perhaps another theory to coincide with that one,is that the egg is containing a large amount of humanity, thus shepherding the humans into an endless age of fire that may never end? This still needs work though,i saw your theory a few months ago and have been working on a more in depth theory,as to what the hell the egg is,why it cracked because of the passage of time when it is meant to anchor time in place, and why has the rest of the world gone on into time? Perhaps the egg is there as a fail-safe should dark-sun Gwyndolin die ( or otherwise fail in his duty),and the illusion is broken.Maybe it's there to maintain the illusion a bit longer,so that others may link the fire after Lord Gwyn. (this is pure speculation on my part, and i'm new to dark souls theories and lore,so forgive me if i broke some of the lore right there, I used to play the games for fun and never cared about the lore.)
The pilgrim sitting at the Dreg Heap, is that the same voice as the woman during the opening cinematic?
Yes, indeed.
Actually not sure, but I thought the same.
So... Yes, indeed.
In my head canon, the Dark Souls series is a bunch of people sitting around a bonfire, waiting for, and dreading, the moment it finally ends.
As they wait, each person tells a story. They recall old memories, old stories from long ago. They speak of old gods and heroes without really understanding their true importance.
Every once in a while, they'll find a few pieces of garbage, a ruined sword or broken shield, and try to remember what they meant to their original owners. They spin tales of grand kingdoms and legends, not really knowing if they're really telling the truth.
Eventually, the fire finally fades away, and nothing remains.
David Hong

@@davidhong1934 is this yours?
There very similar but I could tell there a slight difference. It could still be the same girl so how knows.
This is pretty late, but I just found something.
The eclipse the player sees in Lothric Castle only appears after Yhorm and Aldrich are killed.
However, I killed Friede and went to the Dreg Heap before Yhorm and Aldrich were dead. The eclipse then showed up in Lothric even with both Lords still alive.
Does this mean we triggered the supposed "end of the world" early?
or u time skiped
@@RickyAura your a wizard
@@JimmyPizzaDelivery I'm a what?
If you kill Emma to enter Lothric's castle earlier, the red eclipse is also shown while you are in the castle, but disapear once you've leave it until you defeat Aldritch and Yhorm, which makes no sense if you considere it "lore accurate" instead of just laziness. So... it may be just laziness from the devs in the Dreg Heap
Time is convoluted.

Wow he got me good
Kaca I got so excited I couldn't wait to go check it out and then he tells us there is nothing there I may shed a tear or two because of it. I haven't been this cucked my whole life.
I noticed that you included nothing about the fight with Shira, and I'm wondering if you missed it. It's honestly one of the most missable secrets because of the fact that it occurs at the very very end of the world, immediately before you fight Gael. If instead of marching forward, you turn right you stumble upon a ruined cathedral. If you walk to the rear of it, you engage in one of the most interesting and emotionally charged npc invader style battles that exists in the souls franchise.
Well, you can either fight her before or after defeating Gael, the only thing you need to activate it really is touching the egg, I tried fighting Gael before Midir and her summon sign disappeared.
There's also a ringed knight if you go to the left which drops a titanate slab.

Kinda weird how the end of the world where you fight Gael looks like an ocean floor just with out the water. Remember how Aldrich dreamed of the future and instead of dark he or she saw a sea. Idk just thought I'd point it out.
FRIYE-BOY_672 he
Wow, that's a great find! Maybe Aldrich simply misinterpreted his visions, maybe that Age took place.
But wait: "When Aldrich ruminated on the fading of the fire, it inspired visions of a coming age of the deep sea."
Maybe the Age of the Deep Sea was never about water and instead about ash? About a world that just _looked_ like it belonged to the bottom of the ocean and not the dry land?

Havok wait what lol
those aren't primordial serpents. they resemble the puss of men black oily snakes that explode out of the high wall of Lothric and other Lothric locations wandering hollows very clearly.
Yeah that's more plausible than primordial serpents.
Especially considering there are statues of primordial serpents in the Ringed City. I forget exactly where, but they clearly have torsos, arms and legs (or maybe just four legs, can't remember).
EDIT: Just checked (not in-game, through a Google search) but they definitely have arms.
They were definitely pus of man, but one has to wonder if the pus and Primordial Serpents have something in common?
rjcripe There's been primordial serpents status with different bodies around Lothric related places. i think they make up the bodies because they don't know what they actually look like.
Yeah, explains why the lothric knights would try to exterminate them.
9:54 That castle on the background is actually Drangleic. It's the same Drangleic as shown on the first cutscene of Dark Souls 2
3:59 got to thanks Lapp's voice actor for his work. From this line I can really feel the despair of him, and motivate me to struggle through the questline.
I'm pretty sure the egg is the one who the dragon come from ,it's say that midir was raised from the egg to protect the realm of god , and since he is an archdragon , to do is duty for ever . there is the point , the egg of an immortal dragon who is unaffected by time must have some kind of power , in dark souls the part of monster still has a bit of power when passed down ,(choped off ect) . Meaning that the immortality may have imbued the egg shell. Maybe filianor use the egg as a catalyst to gave herself and to the city , maybe the whole world immortality , like "stopping the time" who would explain why everything reapet itself ( chosen undead, powerfull sousl who reappear= look dks 2 ng+ ) , the time can't end , so it reapet itself , BUT since life and disparity ( not sure of the word tho) came from flame , it just can't reapet endlessly , each time the flame lose some power to the point it's almost impossible to re-kindle it ( that's dks3) . SO with all that we may conclued that touching fillianor's egg and destroying it ( scumbag we are) we "break" the spell that was holding world fragment together , and the world collapse without is last support.
That's my theory , never read it anywere ( if someone ever tell it befoer sorry to him/her/it/appach hélicopter , and sorry to you im pretty bad in english )
alpha971 That's actually a very good theory
alpha971 that was a good read. nice theory
Its one of the theories that make the most sense . Congratz
I give you a lot of credit man for taking the time to put all of this theory into english despite it being not your first language.
I like this idea. Not sure I agree as much with all the finer details, but the core is solid.
I liked how Gael in this dlc and Artorias in the DS1 dlc both throw the creature on their weapon towards you. And it looks nearly identical.
Gael's fight gave me a lot of Artorias vibes, really.
Mostly just in that it was fucking great.
PGFwith Johnny I'm pretty sure it's because they both are Guts. Both of them have big ass swords and do flips and shit. And Gael has a freaking automatic crossbow. Miyazaki sure loves his Berserk. Not that I blame him though, Berserk is great.
Definitely a reference. Though Artorias doing that was actually a reference to The Penetrator in Demons Souls.
They are basically the opposite, one is trying to stop the darkness, and the other is trying to embrace/consume the darkness.
But they were also both consumed by the darkness and went mad. And after we kill them, we complete their tasks for them, finishing Artorias's quest to defeat Manus in DS1, and bringing the Dark Soul to the painter in Ariandel in DS3. Their intentions may have been the opposite when they faced the darkness, but they both suffered the same fate.
Filianores "Egg" looks like the transposing kiln we get from the cursed greatwood
"To gather tongues for their mistress"
The egg also has a strong resemblance to a Transposing Kiln, which also resembles the Vagrants. After this DLC does anyone else believe Ludleth is a Pygmie? They look exactly the same, same body structure, same frailness, same facial structure, fuck everything other than us not really being able to see any of his hair. Even with legs he would still be the same size as them and is the only Lord of Cinder that is significantly smaller than the player, just like the Pygmies.
But Ludleth was once the "Soulfeeder" a really powerfull kind of demon or beast that ravaged whole Courland. Until his corpse got burned that is (hence Ludleth's charred skin). That indicated to me that Ludleth became so powerfull because he fed on the souls of others, and in the end he gained so much power he became a lord of cinder, pretty similar to Aldrich.
And the pygmies are pretty much humans, so many characters have the same size as the pygmy in the ash area.
Ludleth WASN'T the Soulfeeder, he KILLED Soulfeeder and transposed his soul.
Lord Helmchen I don't believe he himself was the Soulfeeder but I'm not going to say he isn't because I honestly don't know. One reason why I don't believe he's the Soulfeeder is the fact he's wearing a ring that, I believe it's description notes that(I'm not currently looking at it so I might be wrong) it was transposed from it's soul and if Ludleth was the Soulfeeder then wouldn't that make him a hollow since he has no Soul or at the very least wouldn't that make his presence ultimately useless? I don't believe anyone would willingly put themselves through that horror of being burned alive(undead but they have feelings too) knowing that it serves no purpose?
Ludleth is the only NPC I've ever seen in the Souls series(I haven't played the first so I can't include that one as well, fuck I hope they remaster or at least port it and DeS, I'd be happy with a simple port) that has that structure. There's no modern humans that look like that from what I've seen and their differences are very distinct from everything we see, besides Ludleth who shares their likeness.
Hmm you got a point. But Ludleth speaks about his "charred/burned" body multiple times, and the Skull Ring's description says something about "even after his body was burned" or so. Always made sense to me... :D But yes that "transposed from" thing is a valid argument. *Or* could it be that the ring was automatically transposed from Ludleth's soul when he died? Maybe because he had the transposing kiln with him and is skilled in transposition.
Besides, have you ever killed him and listened to his dialogue after he respawns? He seems to have a nightmare, and he says "It burns, it burns, help me...'' so I think he either is the soulfeeder, or talking about when he linked the fire

Time is convoluted on RUclips

Well done
And doesn't let any of it play afterwards. I was excited to listen to that too.
Instead of Gael showing you where to go, I think it was for him to get home when he finds the blood of the dark soul.
Vaati! Don't know if you'll see this, but I got an idea of what the new painting might be! I think she's depicting a new Age of Ancients. It's to be a "cold, dark, and very gentle place", and that describes the Age of Ancients to a tee. Furthermore, she would name the painting "Ash" if you tell her you have no name...and what color is ash? Grey (crags)! Going farther down the rabbit hole, the Painted World of Ariandel is on fire...and the new painting is IN that world! So as the old painting is consumed, the new one gets its own little piece of flame..."But then there was Fire, and with Fire came disparity". And of course, if the painting is made using the Blood of the Dark Soul..."Then from the dark, They came. And found the souls of Lords within the Flame". AAHHHHH
what you just said made no sense to me at all
I just think she wants to paint a nice painting and it's going to get ruined by fire and I'm honestly terrified for what could happen.
Niceee. The circle continues. I like the symbology
Lmao i like the AAAAHHHH at the end. Nice theory tho :D
Holy crap that's a good theory. I've always wondered where the first flame came from. Now that you mention that, it would make an awful lot of sense to why fire suddenly appears far below.
On another topic, what significance does the Arch Trees play in this world? Are the completely irrelevant in DS3?
Gael kinda reminds me of Solaire. His search for a certain something, the way he helps us with bosses, the way where he found what he searched for and gone insane because of it. It would explain why I got a bit nostalgic every time I saw Gael......
DeScrow I honestly felt guilty and sad fighting him. He was guiding you to him to take the pigment and give it to the painter because he had lost his mind. I didn't feel proud or even happy killing him. I felt sad.
I joined the dark souls pain train last christmas. I missed seeing everything this fandom went through. Seeing the end of the world in the ringed city kind of reminded me how joining this fandom after the series ended felt: like everything was over, and there was nothing new to see, just a lot to look back on and think about. I doubt many others had that same feeling, but i did.
Rip dark souls, one of my favorite game franchises, i hope one day we will get a dark souls 4
Nope we will get elden ring
There are statues of primordial serpents outside the entrance to Darkeater Midir's boss fight. They have arms. ARMS.
I find it interesting that nobody has brought that up yet.
Rubyre THEY HAVE ARMS?
puu.sh/vlH7u/e083487688.jpg There they are :|
would've been cooler if we got to fight one of those instead of some dumb anime dragon
I agree. The Midir fight was cool, but as far as we know at the moment his only connection to anything is the DLC itself. I would have preferred to fight a primordial serpent.
There's something extremely badass about the thought of fighting a being which has had [arguably] the most impact on the world, and who has steered an unknown number of pawns towards the end goal of kickstarting the age of man.
It literally could have been the Midir fight with the same mechanics with a different boss design and it would have been leagues better.
Who else is kinda depressed now about the souls series ending
I think the message of DS3 is that there's peace, mercy and dignity to be found in death. It's kind of poetic that it's over in this age of never-ending sequels.
Caden Allen Noone said souls series are ending... no more dark souls yeah but they said to make souls like games so probaply similiar to demon souls or bloodborne only with different lore... im kinda glad they are moving on, bloodborne had much better PvE combat and dks combat style is very primitive just use R1 in PvE and you will be fine other attacks are too risky
jepukebu97 Way I see it is that if there ever was another Dark Souls, it won't be as we once knew it. Kinda like Mass Effect, it'll have the same dev team, but few to none of the same people that made the series great. It'll be nice to see them try something new. Bloodborne was a great step in the right direction, but I hope their next work is kind of like Guerrila Games and moving from Killzone to Horizon(which I thought was amazing for a game with a smaller team and budget than the buggy mess that is ME: Andromeda).
I'm more depressed that we didn't get that unique Ledo armor. *siiiigh*
Caden Allen like miyazaki said "We're done.... at least... for now..."
Here's hoping that sometime in the future we'll get to fight Velka

Vaati, I don't know if you'll see this, or if you've already considered it, but the desert at about 13:52 looks to me like the ocean floor. The seabed, if you will. I saw it, and thought of the "Age of the Deep Sea", as said by Aldrich.
Perhaps the ending of the ages of fire and dark, usher in the age of the sea? Like how the fire spontaneously appeared in the primordial times, perhaps the sea shall spring forth onto a waiting sea bed? Maybe. Maybe not. I just wanted to share.

Hey, Vaati! Maybe those snakes in the dreg heap have some semblance to the snakes in the painting in the church of Ariandel where you fight Friede? Not the same, necessarily. But this consistency of two snakes popping up in this game time again might be too coincidental? Or a red herring, perhaps.
who else noticed that the entire journey through the DLC parallels your journey through lothric? you start in lothric castle find some dilapidated houses like the ones in the undead settlement, followed immediately by a swampy forested area, like the crucifixion woods. After being carried away you end up in a large building filled with clerics much like the Cathedral of the Deep, discover another swamp, some catacombs, and an old chapel, like Anor London. It seems to skip straight to the Kiln of the First Flame in the form of Gael's boss arena. Overall it isn't very important to the lore but just something I noticed in my first playthrough.
These words must be seen by others
whocares I just kind of picked up on it around the crucifixion woods parallel. Thanks it means a lot :)
Erik Cessford you also fall deep into a place with big demons
David Stubbs oh yeah good catch man. As mentioned in the video there were also the statues from the boreal valley. I'm just trying to think of some prison in the DLC to mirror the profaned capital. Perhaps the black flame Midir breaths is a reference to the profaned flame. That seems like a bit too much of a stretch but it wouldn't surprise me
Vaati, we want edwad lore.
Elite はっ。アホが! Who is edwad? edwad emberpants?
Elite はっ。アホが! Hoping for that for his 1 million subscriber special ;)
oopopp x haha, I agree with the first part, but I think it's more down to the fact that these videos must take a tremendous amount of effort to make than him being lazy
oopopp x The second half of your comment is pure ignorance
why you keep posting this? bad meme 0/10
Midir’s arena is actually the abyss i think. The leap and area is really similar.
What a journey, I just completed my binge of your entire channel, from the earliest to this, that I started over a week ago, suffice to say it was a great one that inspired me to pick up the other two Dark Souls game that I didn't have.
Vaati maybe you should make a prepare to cry for gael
No Ludleth mention? There is a space for 9th missing throne in Gael's fight area. So we actually found the place from where he was exiled following the engraving on his throne in the shrine. So he was banished for what? For linking of the fire?
Would that make this Courland?
Snowskeeper Ferenczy that might've been the ringed city's name before it became the ringed city and its original name was lost to most minds
Could those ash covered snake things that bleed when struck possibly be Pus of Man if not Primordial Serpents?
They could be. I can see the resemblance now that you mentioned it.
There is a variation of the Dragonslayer Armor set in the swamp of the Ringed City. From the Ringed City Streets bonfire if you go straight across the swamp and hug the wall going right you will eventually come to an area where you fight a reanimated Dragonslayer Armor. The description of the set explicitly mentions our character defeating it in Lothric and says the armor has been possessed by the memory of the hunt.
Patches' does seem to keep his promise to be a friend forever, this time he kicked you with no lethal intent just to say 'Hey, I'm Patches.' Afterwards you can summon him to the Halflight boss fight.
Patches actually seems to have an honor code or something....but he still is a goddamn jerk that I would kill if he wasn't a merchant
He does save you from a somewhat dangerous trap by kicking you.
The end? It ain't over till Edwad Emberpants finishes it, vaati!
oh my god edwad! i havent thought about him in so long XDD
SacredWind Edwad will finally end the lore this time.
I want to hit you guys with a theory I've been working on for a while now. Before I get into it, please note that my TV bit the dust before I could finish Ringed City so that may have some answers here that I'm not aware of.
I want to talk about the Curse of the Undead, and Humanity. The crux of this theory is a quote from Aldia:
"Once, the Lord of Light banished Dark, and all that stemmed from humanity.
And men assumed a fleeting form."
Now, many, it seems, have taken this quote to mean that when Gwyn Linked the Fire, he caused/created the Undead Curse, either inadvertently or intentionally. Even VaatiVidya, everyone's primary source for Souls games lore, went in this direction. But when you think about it, it doesn't really make sense. Undead are not fleeting. They endure. They die over and over and yet still remain. Humans, on the other hand, are fleeting. Humans can die and stay dead. We know this from many sources, but most notably from Anastacia, the Firelink Firekeeper from DS1, who wants you to Link the Fire so she may die as a human. Is this not more a fleeting form than Undead?
I posit that there are 3 forms to mankind: Human (when with fire/light), Undead (with the Dark Soul) and Hollow (with neither). When the Furtive Pygmy found the Dark soul and split it among others, he created Humanity. But in the Age of Fire, the Darkness was cast aside by the strong First Flame, causing mankind to be Human. As the fire began to fade, the dark in man grew stronger in comparison and the Undead "Curse" began. Gwyn, fearing the Dark Lord and all that as we know, set out to Link the Fire. We're never told explicitly what that meant, but I agree with Vaati in that not only did he provide fuel for the First Flame, but he also Linked it to mankind. I go further to say that this Linking temporarily banished the dark from man; a bright enough light casts fewer shadows. This cause mankind to once again assume the fleeting Human form. This is also the origin of the Darksign, but I'll get into that in a moment.
We are told from multiple sources that when the Fire begins to fade in each kingdom and age, that's when the Undead Curse emerges. Under my theory this makes sense; the Fire is not strong enough to keep back all the Dark. But because of Gwyn, the Undead now appear with the mark of the Darksign upon them; a brand on their undead forms that attempts to bind them to the light and the fire.
I think it's fairly clear that the Darksign is connected to the Linking, Undead, and Bonfires, all from visual clues. The Dark Sign is often represented by a swirling pattern, especially apparent in Dark Souls 2 where it's a huge spiral on your back. This motif appears elsewhere; In the Kiln of the first Flame in DS1, the main structure has a spiral pattern in its architecture. Furthermore, in the Boss Arena where you fight Gwyn, the sands/ashe on the ground are arranged as a swirl around the fire there. Of course, even the swords planted in every bonfire have a twisted, swirled blade. Hell, if you look at the fires in the basement of Majula's mansion, there's a vague spiral to them. In DS3, the previous worlds churn around Lothric, churning often havinf a spinning or spiral to it.
You might now be asking about the Humanity item in DS 1 and how that lets you become Human. How can Humanity, a shard of the Dark Soul, make us not Undead anymore in this theory? Well, think of what you do: While Undead, you can have any number of "Liquid Humanity." But to become Human, you offer one up to a Bonfire. You let the Bonfire burn away your Dark Soul Humanity, and become Human. Still makes sense. And we know from the Evangelists in DS3 that the Curse can be burned away.
TL;DR; Linking the Fire did not cause the Undead Curse. Instead, mankind is naturally Undead with the Dark Soul, and Gwyn Linked the Fire to mankind to force us into "fleeting" Human forms.
that part about humanity doesn't make sense really because then you would be in human form when you don't have any soft or hard humanity on you. plus you can still have humanity on you when in human form
Warren the Hero that is actually really interesting
Warren the Hero so the symbol is seen in multiple games not just dark souls and it usually represents a god of war but not just any god one that clammed no side and no pain so it might be a symbol of balance maybe?
Warren the Hero and yes the undead die but more of a loss of thought would be the best description for it for when one looses its purpose than it goes mad and is killed or absorbed by another to further usify that power like keeping the flame burning
This makes the most sense out any theory I've seen.
I think the tower at 9:02 could be where you fight the final boss in the future.
well it’s the future
@@PossessedGlitchjust a little longer im sure theyll add it
Angel's Egg is a masterpiece but somehow even more esoteric than the entirety of Dark Souls:
Let me start by saying Angel's Egg is to parts of Dark Souls 3 as Berserk was to parts of Dark Souls 1. There are entire cut scenes that are almost exact replica of scenes from the movie. One in particular is the male character stabbing the girl (which is almost the Anri wedlock scene verbatim.) The way the film symbolizes how people seek faith is also really similar to the way people seek the age of fire.
One interpenetration is the egg in the film symbolizes the blank slate we are all born into as children or at the very least innocence. The characters in the film are spiritually unripe as are the undead in relation to humanity. And many parallels can be drawn to the ambiguity of the male in the film and our role as the ashen one. Both are almost christ-like figures, both seeking to change something inherent to human identity. Whether we choose to have faith in protecting the egg and linking the flame or destroy the the egg and let the flame fade is up to the characters in the narrative.
Beautifully said, I too have noticed the Christ-like and even biblical similarities the Souls series has. Partly why I am so infinitely fond of it! #praisetheSON and #praisetheSUN :)
there is a mention of faith in general, not Christianity exclusively. It's taking a pretty big logically leap to say Dark Souls is an allegory for Christ. In fact there's more evidence to the fact Miyazaki is pointing out the flaws in faith, as the Gods curse humans and trick them into preserving their power. If that's a reference to Christianity or any other religion then i'd wager Miyazaki is not too fond of them
Am I the only who finds it funny the andre is the only one who has a moving mouth.
*beard
Ariandel has a moving mouth too
"rise if you would... for that is our curse"
Don't skip cutscenes.
Is that why he has such a unique moveset when you attack him? I've always wondered why he has such a different moveset then any other enemy in the game.
OnyxMythrilDragon
guess what
even his mouth doesn't sync with the words that he's saying
just talk to him and don't skip any dialogue
when he finishes saying the first sentence
there's always those 2 seconds of wait until he starts saying the second sentence
in those two seconds
his mouth is still moving
yep
moving mouths isn't fromsofts job
The amont of work and the editing is always so good, i mean you made this game even greater and deeper with your video
What about the dark spirit fight with Shira near the fight with Gael. For anyone who hasn't had this fight starting from the place with Filinore turn right when possible and head through the door.
There's some interesting dialogue there too.
That FUCKING bow spam
bruh, she wouldnt stop. Accidently found her after gael.. the bish was spamming
4:35 that Wilhelm scream
I don't think we travel in time to get to the Gael's boss arena. Rather I think Fillianore is just like Gwynevere in that waking her up breaks the illusion, which in this case is the illusion that the world is still in one piece. The dark sign we see in the sky of Lothric is signifying how this illusion is slowly breaking, and bringing all the Lords to their thrones ends most of the illusion, as it is no longer needed. The last fragments of Fillianore's illusion still remain until we arrive and wake her from her slumber, only for her to realise that she was already dead, just like the egg she was holding. The egg crumbling symbolises how time has truly passed quite a lot, and how everything in reality is already in ruins.
Or at least that's how I see it.
Arexion5293 That's what I originally thought and, to be honest, I think it's the more likely explanation. Vaati's theory seems more majestic though. I like his more, I just don't think it is the case.
Um he even looks older when you fight him tho
I think so too. The moment we raise from the bridge guarded by Midir and see the sun, I can't help but remember ds1 Londor sun. And Fillianore waking up of how fragile the ilussion of Gwynevere is.
but... everything else is still there once "the illusion breaks". It happens with Fillianore, and after the Lords are returned. I think time travel is much more likely.
At the beginning of the ringed city theres that guy who asks us about the gods and shit. He's one of the pigmy kings like in the ending with Gael. So yeah, I thought too that it's just an illusion. But it's so weird. At the beginning of the DLC we're in the ruins of Lothric and everything else and then at the end we see Lothric again more or less in tact.
i can really hear the passion in your voice. you've connected all the breadcrumbs that i have been wondering about. thank you.
the videos you produce enrich my souls game so much. i hated the fight against abys watchers, but after hearing your theory in a different vod, i feel so damn sad and sombre in defeating them. please keep doing what you do, every vod is a damn amazing treat.
I want to see a video where all Souls game storyline are explained in one whole project. That would be epic.
Your voice did sound rougher, but it's still smooth as butter my man
Your videos are always so beautifully made and narrated. Thank you!
The part about the buildings about halfway through blew my damn mind. That's so bad ass, I didn't realize they were actually there. I swear, the intricacies and symbolism in these games is on an untouched level
Well, that's the end of Dark Souls.
I'm gonna go play Dark Souls 1 again. A lot.
LeadFaun I don't want Dark Souls without Miyazaki. I'll just wait for more Miyazaki games instead
the end of good dark souls games
LeadFaun Well... this end is. Miyazaki himself said that Bandai Namco may chose to continue the series under different developers, they own the rights. Hopefully, if they do, they learn from their mistakes with DSII.
rjcripe and I hope they learned from all the mistakes in ds3.
So...the end of Dark Souls then.
Something I still don't understand is why is there a ringed knight at Filianore's Rest ? He is wandering around behind Filianore's room with his twin blades and he is the only enemy we can encounter before or after Gael. I'm pretty sure From Software did not wonder "hey, we have a spare ringed knight, where should we put it ?". He is basically the only survivor of the end of the world, but since we encounter and very probably killed him before entering the Church of the Spears, how could he still be there ?
He dropped slab for me too. He definitely made me think for a minute.
The Ringed City is full of Hollows. Very likely it just keeps popping up, and remains throughout time as the Church's guardian, even when the city no longer exists. Kinda like the Silver Knights of Anor Londo, ever patrolling a city of gods long dead.
L Faraone This could be a good answer, but why only one ringed knight ? In the first DS, we had at least 4 or 5 silver knights, and we all understood they were the guardians around Gwen and the fire, but this single one ringed knight seems lost, all alone and without purpose.
Sébastien Petitjean Buried under ten tons of sand? Idk. Lol
Sébastien Petitjean never encountered a ringed knight at however the spell her name's rest
It is nuts that how much this game levels And everything is connected. Thank you for you hard work!
Love the story/lore in these games including the kings field series. I find it funny how the moonlight sword is in them but not much else, linking them by that sword
Finally!!!!! waited all week for this
"Middle finger Kirk" its long finger Kirk, but that is much more Kek.
Lorewhise i suppose, Vaati doesn't like Kirk 😁
AcidicVengeance well your middle finger is the longest one
Yes, but his name is "Long finger Krik"
In Japanese he is called "Middle Finger Kirk", but they changed it because it would sound strange in English.
le lore implications le vaati! xd ima plagiarize redgrave
The Preacher doesn't only talk about dark souls 3 characters. When you first talk to him after the first judicator giant, he describes Artorias
Legit these locusts are so creepy, the small faces on the swamp gave me chills
I legit thought the giant threw you into the air for a hot min there
Cryowolf how did he do it?
He used the power of friendship of course silly
Cryowolf underrated comment👏👏👏
Those "snakes" are clearly those puss of man monsters that appear in Lothric and on Gundyr.
Love the Tim & Eric "The Universe" episode clip ya threw in there!!!! Love it!!!
almost 3 years later and i still love these vids
we all do!
I re-watch them once every few months because there's nothing more interesting than DS for me, fromsoft spoiled me with lore gameplay and replayablity. No other game can fill the spot for me. ❤️♥️❤️
Hey vaati coming from the abyss watchers bonfire heading outside you can see the sun and it's black with a grey ring around it. Surprised you didn't notice the sky turned grey.
And believe it or not, if you overlay one of the furthest kingdoms, what will you see? None other than the Holy Grail of them all....Boletaria. And the winged angels made of trees....
Oh....UMBASA....
Umbasa
U M B A S A
Legend of Gaming Umbasa? Umbasa.
U M B A S A
i know this is old video and i recently started ds3, im happy to watch your video, since i have no time/chance to look around the places (more desperate to survive)... xD
"Thats something we'll get into in the locust video." It hurts 😭
Yea i know...
I had my volume high when watching he pigmy crawl and I was on my phone so when it dies I almost shit myself with that loud noise
I hope in an upcoming patch they add in one of those Super Mario 64 cannons that you can enter into and launch yourself to the mysterious promo structure in the distance through a glass window, where then the interior will have changed drastically since its noclip version shown here and you discover its REAL secret - a place called Miyazaki's Tower, where you must brave several floors of challenges, Game of Death-style before reaching the top and facing off against the actual, _actual_ final boss of the series, why none other than Hidetaka Miyazaki himself. He'll have infinite poise, infinite stamina and will wield Yorshka's Spear as his choice weapon, only this version of the weapon is actually good and can kill you. You can use his soul to transpose to either the Pendant or Bloodborne in its entirety to play, a good bonus for PC and Xbone players who were left in the cold by its PS4 exclusivity. Sadly you still won't be able to obtain a good version of the Yorshka's Spear. Dem's the breaks.
Na, man. Hidetaka Miyazaki is the NPC vendor of the tower. The REAL final boss is Giantdad, who upon reaching his second phase summons Havelmom and Stonechild to gank you. And worse is that they have active, infinite, DkS1 style poise while you don't.
joshua kim well is dark souls so thats sound completly fair
His kill dialogue is either "POISE IS FUNCTIONING AS INTENDED" or "YOU SHOULD HAVE CHOSEN THE PENDANT."
Yup, this sounds about right.
jonjonmcjonjon Na bro, he'll be dual wielding a Scythe (there's a boss with a Scythe in like every game) and the Moonlight Greatsword.
That egg theory was something, Thumsbs up!
Extremely interesting video! It would be insane if you could see Drangleic in the distance, I already thought adding Earthen Peak was awesome.
Vaati, when they say let the feast begin do you think its a reference to the new IP Bandai Namco teased? With the hashtag #preparetofeast ?
Gaming Shorts dine not feast
Locust Souls: Prepare to Dine edition
I thought at first it was a sort of reference to what the apostles are saying at the eclipse in Berserk. Thinking of that imagery also makes me think of Gael feasting on the pygmees at the end. Is that what they were talking about when they say 'fear not the dark my friend and let the feast begin'? Don't fear the dark soul, but rather, consume it?
If anything, it's likely a marketing thing symbolizing that their new game has Souls-like gameplay or other aspects, but is not made by FromSoft. "Prepare To Die" was a Bamco marketing phrase, not FromSoft's.
Rhtrt Trhhtr well given that we can clearly see them consuming the large growths of Dark Gems in the ringed city swamp, I'd say it's something like that.
I don't care what anyone says, my one true lord is Vaati!
Kirawa Akuma *Edwad Emberpants
Just like in Dark Souls 3: as there are many Lords of Cinder, there are many Lords of RUclips.
Also Lappe is still in use in German as “Lappen” - same meaning still.
Point no. 10: It's interesting to note that the "Ash Serpent" in the Dreg Heap you point out
is quite close to the Covetous Silver Serpent Ring +3. Maybe those serpents weren't
the Primoridal Serpents we are familiar with. Maybe they started to change when they
began to consume Humanity.....
