Grambee what was that she was holding anyway? and why did it seem to teleport time forward? that whole area you end up in looks exactly like from the opening cinematic. Lothric seems intact in the background though.
In fact, the old woman npc at the begining of the dlc, eventualy dies "naturaly" when you complete the dlc. And in that case, the angel appears but it isn't hostile.
No i think it grows over years also i think the angel is only hostile if you kill the hag if she dies at the end without player input i think she still retains a bit of her sanity
Exactly the same in Norwegian. Seems to be a theme in this DLC (lapp, "Harald" knights - Norwegian/Scandinavian first name), along with Irish mythology (Midir, god of the underworld).
blender7 the Scandinavian languages (Danish, Swedish and Norwegian) are actually so similar that in most cases we can understand each other just fine even though we aren't speaking the same language.
thats nice, she is one of the many characters i grew irrationally attached to despite only talking to her 3 times... i just went to see if she was fine after finishing the DLC a few days back and was really sad to find her ashes...
the story of Lapp is honestly one of my favorites in all of souls, maybe even ever. your sole "friend" who's been with you, one way or another, through each of the games, always up to his usual tricks, always persisting. yet, finally, he was able to reach the true end of the world, only to lose himself. We see a Patches that is perhaps the original Patches, before he saw the corruption of the church, an honest, helpful man who wants nothing more than to discover the truth, to discover himself. He helps you, and promises to be your friend even after he recollects himself. It is only by your actions that he's able to remember his past. And, like the good old times, he kicks you off a cliff... except this cliff leads not to a pit, but to the way forward. Patches and Lapp have both acknowledged you, just as you have come to acknowledge them. You part ways, not through betrayal or death, but with purpose, a goal to end the rein of the gods and the corruption of the church, to fully unveil the truth.
Another cool thing they did is that before Lapp regains his memories, he tells you f a treasure hidden in a dangerous place. When I played this part I got serious warning bells going off in my head because it wasn't until then that I recognized his voice as Patches. But the treasure he mentions is actually there, and there's no trap waiting for you.
@@mlggodzilla1567 As far as I remember, Dark Souls lore implies that Solaire burned himself to the first flame so any further appearance wouldn't have made any sense, but maybe I'm wrong! It really would have been awesome though.
I had some fuck named "crusty pillowcase". Suffice to say he immediately killed me because I just stood there mind broken trying to comprehend this 'NPC'.
You know one thing that bothers me is that they have the skill to make a huge fucking badass dragon like midir but they don't have the skill to make patches mouth move when he talks
#7: Gwyn couldn't figure out how the hell to pull out so he just sorta masked his mistakes by putting them in the farthest corners of existence and building entire cities around them.
"not knowing how to fix mistake so he goes utterly above and beyond what's sane or rational" is literally a description of everything Gwyn did in his misbegotten life
@@TheCreepyLantern I really find gwyn to be stupid. Dude just had to let go of his pride and accept that all times have a ending . I think at the end, Patches for once wasn't trying to kill you. At that last point he was instead teaching you a lesson. In DS1, Patches kicks you off a cliff to your death. In DS2, his reincarnation (Pate) tries to trap you if you help him survive. In DS3, he tries to feed you to a Giant and locks you in Firelink to fall to your death. But at the end, he doesn't try to kill you. He kicks you off, to an area he knows you'll survive. He's Patches, he doesn't make mistakes like that if he wants you dead. He tells you that every age has the greed of men, perhaps taunting you for falling for his trap one last time. He says he is devoid of all worldly wants, then laughs. But... I don't feel it's a smug laugh. It sounds almost bittersweet. He then sighs and tells you that maybe that's just how humans are. He says he'll put you into his prayers, but not smugly or with the chuckle he's always had, but solemnly. As if letting something go or saying goodbye. He mockingly wishes you a fine Dark Soul, but not to mock you, but to mock what feels like the City itself. We saved him from his hollowing, and he promised to remember you as a friend. And he does, he remembers you, this undead who's lasted so long, trolled and killed so many players, he truly remembers you. And then he's gone, all that's left is the memory of his last ruse against you, one last prank to pull, one last undead to scare before he calls it quits. Aside from that, we get his armor, the last thing he left us as a reward for surviving one more time. So at the end, he was trying to tell you to not be so greedy, to think a bit more, to trust a bit less, which is the best lesson anyone can teach us in this hellish land, even if it's just a bit too late to matter. Patches truly is one of the best friends one could have.
Heck, he gets you safely to the place you need to go without fall damage or the chance of accidentally falling off. If you try to go up the stairs you fall through, take fall damage, get attacked by enemies and invaded. When he kicks you off you have time to prepare for it

Funny you should mention that, that pattern (the circle with the line down the center) is kinda similar to the Sword of Avowals, the ceremonial blade you “marry” Anri with.
I am surprised you made no mention of Midir's boss area. It bears uncanny resemblance to the intro cinematic of the first Dark Souls. The long rocky passage, leading to a massive cavern... where the first flame was found.
Not to mention all the undead corpses inside it, which probably suggest the "dark" he was kept around to eat was just the humans the gods were oppressing.
They said that Midir was raised by the Gods (Gwyn) and made vows to protect Fillianore (his daughter) and consume the dark. For he is "immortal" (I assume ageless, still die by stabbing). Also the gods "punished' the pygmy lords by creating their own city hidden at worlds end containing them and their knights who were so close to the power of the abyss, (since humans came from dark their power also comes from the darkness). SO to me it seems Gwyn kept a dragon egg after the battle against the dragons, raised it. Placed the Ringed City on top of the location of the first flame. that's just my thinking. Really amazing to see old places melded with the new from the countless ages. Like earthen peak, anor londo, etc. And how they've changed or see it completely taken over by a different force and twisted in their vision. Alright I'm done typing.
The Old Woman's ashes shows her hand wearing the High Priestess Ring and the description mentions her as the "wet nurse of royalty". Could she be Emma after she disappeared from Lothric Castle?
+Berg Electron Lapp still shows up in the DLC even if you kill him in the base game, so there's no reason to assume that they didn't simply come back to life like us, keep in mind the DLC takes place in the far future though. Weirdly enough we never even know the circumstances of Emma's death if the player doesn't kill her himself. A circle apears below her resembling the offensive spells used by those crawling clerics in the DLC, so she may have been killed by them?
Just want to point out that the egg imagery in the Fillianore sequence is remarkably like the quote in Demian “The bird fights its way out of the egg. The egg is the world. Who would be born must first destroy a world. The bird flies to God. That God's name is Abraxas.” Now Abraxas is a deity meant to encompass both light and dark, both chaos and order, so in my mind this is a subtle commentary on how maybe the cycle is broken, that rather than have gods who fight to rekindle the age of light or create an age of darkness, the God in power is one beyond the cycle of light and dark, instead encompassing both in one.
I think it's neat, the differences we're shown between those statues in the Ringed city - where the Serpents appear more monstrous, and foul - compared to Lothric - where they appear more Divine and angelic. I guess the pygmies really fucking disliked the Serpents!
Hearing patc- I mean Lapp say “no matter what, I am your friend” makes me wanna break down and cry. No matter how much shit he puts you through, I’ve always had sympathy for him because in the real world, the only type of people who end up like him are the ones who have never truly been treated with kindness themselves.
Something cool I'v noticed in the DLC is that you can see Lothric Castle and I think Anor Londo in the background of the final boss arena. The boss arena is the place in the games cover art too.
Alright, I've got a neat little detail for y'all! Did anyone else figure out that the Old Piligrim Woman is actually High Priestess Emma? In the description of her ashes it says that she was "a wet nurse of royalty", and if we consult the description of the Priestess Ring, it reads "The High Priestess also served as the prince's wet nurse". And just in case you need further convincing, take a look at the ashes' picture - there's a certain ring on one of the fingers :)
I said "oh fk not again." While having ptsd flash backs of being kicked off of various cliffs. Also he's doing the Patches Squat when he tells you he got his memory back.
It really made me feel a certain goodness when he kicked you but in the direction you needed to go. Said (from what I understood) that the things he's done to get what he wants was futile in the end, and wished you luck, then he helps you fight the spear of the church which is pretty sick. My only question, is that the last we see of him in the ringed city?
Here's another cool detail, the desert area from the future where you fight Gael was already shown in the first seconds of the teaser trailer for the original game I think (the scene where the pilgrim falls)
Before the fight with Midir, you see serpents with arms and legs. So wait the primordial serpents are growing wings.. now arms and legs.. HMMM? Comes on now people, it's obvious what's happening. Primordial serpents have been profiting off of mans struggles from the start, you can see almost serpent like symbols on Gwyns armor. They're turning themselves into dragons through the power of souls. 'The serpent is an imperfect dragon and symbol of the Undead. Its habit of devouring prey even larger than itself has led to an association with gluttony.'
Most of scandinavians serpents are considered dragons. There is a difference between a dragon and a wyvern, but both can be seen as a serpents since they are represented with a long snake-like body. The primordial serpents could be the dragons we know.
I summoned shira with me to fight midir, did not interact with her after, then when I was searching the area with Gael, I walked into a shrine, and Shira appeared and called me a traitor, and I had to kill her :'(
She turns hostile only after you shatter Filianore's Kinder Egg. Once you do you are thrown into the future, which is why you fight her in her room, only destroyed by time now.
Nah fam, its the future, first the whole 'time is convoluted' mechanic we keep hearing about throughout the series and the fact that the pygmy lords call Gael "The Red Hood" serves as proof that he has built up a reputation over time.
Not sure if you found her, but Shira most certainly does not approve of you waking Filianore. I'm not sure if you can trigger this after the boss fight at Filianore's Rest, but if you hug the right edge of the area you'll find a small ruined structure. Walk into it, to the far end, and Shira will "invade" your world (similar to Vilhelm's entrance in the painted world) and face you. Afterwards, go back to Shira's house and the door will be open, and you can claim her armor set. Also, if you hug the left wall of the same area, there is a dual greatsword Ringed Knight. Kill him for a Titanite Slab. Oh and Alva invades near the Black Witch Set, and Moaning Knight not-Eygon invades in the Shared Grave. There is a Silver Knight invasion, but I see you found it by your weapon choice against Midir. EDIT** Lastly, just stumbled upon this, but the stone humped hag in the Dreg Heap dies on her own if you progress far enough into the DLC. I'm guessing it's once you beat the boss at Filianore's Rest.
Moaning Knight is definitely Eygon. He gets referenced earlier by one of the Locusts and he drops a blindfold, referencing Irina. At first I thought he might be Morne, since it is Morne's armour, but then I realised he was using the Moaning Shield (hence the name) which was unique to Eygon.
I'm not sure what caused it, but the lady behind the door no longer speaks to me. I haven't killed the final boss yet, nor the secret one, though I have pushed the dragon off the cliff and touched the egg.
Hey Vaati! Since this DLC ends the dark souls saga and its lore. Do you plan on making a "final video" explaining the entirety of the main lore of dark souls or nah? : )
In the shrine where you drop off into Midir´s boss fight there are statues showing the entire body of a Primordial Serpent (Most likely Kaathe), it´s pretty disturbing...
I'm thinking It's Fraampt, considering there's titanite in his mouth. He's known to grind titanite down for you in DS1. And now we know angels are part of the religion of the Church of Londor, who follow Kaathe. So, I'm now rethinking the Serpant statues in Lothric castle altogether.
There's actually a lot of potential narrative to be gained from that room. First of all, there's statues of -a- Primordial Serpent, whether it's Kaathe or Frampt or something else is up to you, but also there's a symbol prominently displayed in this small church that resembles the same symbol that the Sword of Avowal resembles (you see this symbol in multiple places throughout the ringed city, primarily buildings that are the most submerged in the abyssal water), which might possibly link it to the Sable Church. Then there's the fact that little church is actually kept secret behind a secret passage...WITHIN a temple that has a monument to Gwyn giving the Pygmy a crown. All of that says quite a bit about the situation.
+Sensko Time is convoluted also This huge speculation but I think The Millwood Knights are forsworn (they are in the painted world) because they lost all purpose when they discovered that the abyss dragon they thought a manifestation of dark was actually defending the world against it
I've been trying to decipher what the Man-Locusts are talking about during there little speeches about the dark, and as far as I can guess right now they appear to be talking about various NPCs. "One was a wayfaring knight, on an endless, forbidden search. Only the Abyss granted closure, if not reunion with his beloved." - Most likely this refers to Alva, considering his later appearance within the city and the nod to him being "Wayfaring". Likely the Abyss granting him closure refers to his taking comfort in Zullie, a dark witch. "One met the dark with learning. But in the end, learned his knowledge was wanting." - This one is tricky. I personally think this is referring to Aldia, who attempted to understand the Dark but only came to appreciate the futility of the curse as a whole ("Beyond the scope of light, beyond the reach of Dark... what could possibly await us?"). This also could be referring to Orbeck or Logan, both of whom responded to their being cursed by adventuring out for knowledge, and both of whom met their fates because of it. "One poor girl slew her own kin, but even so, was embraced, enveloped by the Abyss." - This is most likely referring to Karla, as the Dark Edge sorcery described how it was "passed from mother to daughter" and "the young girl [if this is indeed Karla herself] never swung it more than once", presumably to kill her mother. Other than her, another girl who we know slew her kin would be Seiglinde, though she is as far as we know completely unrelated to the Dark, so unless something happened to her after the events of DS1 this seems unlikely. "And so, she lived in fear. Of the dark, of the things that gnawed at her flesh." - Obviously Irina, though what is interesting is how the locust claims that "The Abyss has spawned no such creature". Indeed, the insects that we assumed to be haunting Irina are from the Deep, not the Dark, so I wonder how Irina is being affected by them, unless the two forces are more related than even the locusts know. "And so, despite his weighty armour, he lived in fear. Of a delicate thing, little more than a girl." - Given that this line is from the same locust as the previous one, we can assume this to be Eygon, who also appears later in the DLC. I wonder if he did in fact live in fear of Irina, or lived in fear for her. I always knew he cared ( ˘ ³˘)♥ If not him, this description could also apply to several characters from DS2, including Raime, Alva and Vendrick himself, though none of them match up to the whole statement as much as Eygon does. What's really interesting about all this however, is how the locusts even know about these people. Have the become almost legendary figures throughout the ages? Can the Dark share experiences between it's creations in the same way you talk about how demons do in this video? Very odd.
I could totally see that, I completely forgot about her! The only issues I could see with that would be that Sirris has no direct connection with the Abyss, and that the Locust also talked about how she did not find comfort in the moon, which would be a little odd for an acolyte of Gwyndolin. Then again, Sirris is not an active Blade of the Darkmoon according to Yorshka, so maybe she left the order at some point to seek her grandfather? Would her death then be her being "enveloped in the Abyss"? EDIT: The specific quote is "Twas a comfort that neither moon nor sunless sky had afforded her before", which yeah, is pretty clearly about Sirris. I suppose that her apparent envelopment in the Abyss must just refer to her taking her own life after the end of her questline, but it was that specific description that made me think it'd be Karla. Guess the Dark ain't picky?
I think that irina was lying about the creatures nawing at her. I mean think of it she wants to become a fire keeper and when she does her voice changes and she becomes cold like she's lost her motive. maybe she thought being a fire keeper would restore her vision and so she lied and used us. I feel like eygon would have mentioned the creatures
Tin Can i think the moaning knight refers to morne, as id you change it a little - mourn - then it fits the description of "moaning", and he also has the same armor and all... however i do not know morne well, so...
You can see the original firelink architecture on the arena. A round indent on the ground where the bonfire should be, a well next to it, all the arches, and the hole in the ground that should lead into the altar.
Malcom Alexander I said the same thing when I saw it, fortunately I was the only one of my group of friends that noticed it because I played dark souls 1
The purging monument one, I happened across a weird hit-box in the middle of the swamp... right past the staircase and just randomly popped items next to it. Within a few minutes I turned into a humanity and was like, "AWESOME!" Then, I found the "riddle" and solved it by being like, "oh, yea, maybe I can turn into the sprite?" PURE LUCK BUILD, YO!
Alexandra Wicks Someone left a message saying "Monstrosity ahead" in my game when you first see him. I didn't get it at first then it randomly hit me while I was exploring the swamp. lol
I never had a more perfect feeling of fulfillment, then when you fought the spear of the church with patches. This alone made him my favorite character in all of the games.
Infected Nobody, Would've been epic! Although the subtle almost completely unrecognizable shrine felt like a perfect hint of how much things have changed since the glory days
I figured it out as soon as I met him because he literally has the same voice... I said to my friend "either this is patches or they completely ran out of budget and had to reuse a voice actor."
I know a cave's a cave and I'm probably like 5 years late to this revelation, but the cave in which you fight Darkeater Midir, doesn't the view look like the cave in the cutscene where all the nekkid not-yet-humans find the fire before the age of disparity?
i just assumed that the preacher were just cannibalistic or something, "fear not the dark my friend, and let the feast begin", "dont fear death and get in my belly"
Right when I gave the painter girl the blood of the dark soul, I knew the series has finally come to an end. I decided not to give my name up since the dark soul isn't about me, it's about all of us. For we have all dived and played in From Software and Miyazaki's painted world called the dark souls series. What a wonderful video game series that is dark yet holds hope for humanity as a whole. The real world is foul and broken, we surely have all come to this conclusion. It's the painted worlds from our imagination that gives us the drive to tackle what we call life everyday. Thank you From Software for a wonderful gaming experience that far exceeds any other during this generation.
hi everyone! i'm not advertising but i'm a lore enthusiast such as you all! please if you have the will, read this post made by me, i really want to bring up a comprehensive look on the entire dlc! www.reddit.com/r/darksouls3/comments/62fjlr/ringed_city_dlc_lore_analysis_and_interpretation/
Considering the paint for a new painting is literally made out of the blood of the desendants of the pygmies this has to mean that the new painting will be most powerful and grandiose. But here is what I want to believe(but highly unlikely): that because she used blood she drew the world of Bloodborne and BAM here we have the origins of the bloodborne universe. Again highly unlikely but LET ME DREAM DAMMIT
Thats what I was thinking as well lol The ending is so abrupt I was thinking that the "blood" of the dark soul must be there for a reason. Blood Souls hype
It's interesting because she wants to create a cold world, which could mean a world without fire, but it is born of blood, so it is possible the world of Bloodborne was created here. Although I don't think I'd want that world to be named after Dat Boi, the character I just beat the game with lol.
alienArcanist it does sound good though. Imagine a sage in the distant future telling an adventurer ,"Seek the cold, dark painting of Dat Boi." Sounds cool, no? (my painting's name is Kawaii Desu Chan and I'm damn proud of it)
One thing I recognized being a massive dark souls 1 fan, is that after smouldering lake, you enter the demon ruins, which is almost what's left of the witches and Lost Izalith. I found what looked like Quelana or her younger sister, who was the leader of the daughters of chaos covenant.
I would have killed him.... but he already survived the kill in firelink/the cathedral of the deep and now he's undead and a Hollow so I figured it would be pointless and maybe it would make me unable to expirience his last lore (or not because there'd be none, I didn't knew that at the time)
at one point Lapp told me there's a cool treasure just a skip and a hop away in the swamps and I was like "HA! Yeah right!" and then later I came back to talk to him and he was like "Oh I went and got the treasure. It was real easy, here you go" and gave me a Titanite Slab...
The Demon Prince boss room is the Firelink shrine from Dark Souls 1. After the boss we're walking down the tunnel where Frampt once talked to us. Oh and don't forget Earthen Peak form Dark Souls 2.
I only just now discovered that after defeating the Spear of the Church. You can go back to the statue of Velka in the Undead Settlement sewers and revive this boss! Kind of an absolution for once specific NPC.
The final boss implies there is something special about our protagonist SPOILERS When Gael is killing the Pygmy lords and taking their Dark Souls, he turns to you and demands your Dark Soul, implying your Dark Soul is powerful enough to be on par with the Pygmy lords.
I know that I am late and propably no one will read this, but after hearing about the many children of Gwyn I realised he has a lot of common with Zeus, as portrayed by ancient greek mythology. Both command lightning, both are the greatest gods among their respective pantheons and both have a lot of children with different women. Not that this changes the lore, but it is a nice touch
+VaatiVidya Did you notice the striking similarities between the ringed city and the city of Londor while you were playing through the dlc? The small Envoy Banner states that Gwynn gifted the ringed city to the pygmies who took the dark soul, who would later become hollow and as Yuria states, Londor is a city of hollows. Another large resemblance to this is that we're told that Londor was founded around a church, and we find the same thing in the ringed city, with the church of Fillianore being at the center of it all. And by far the biggest thing I found during my time playing that hints at me that the ringed city is or is related to Londor, is that if you use your binoculars to look at the tops of the towers from the wall at the start of the area, you can see that the symbol from the Sword of Avowal is all over the ringed city, on the tops of all the biggest towers. Just something I thought was kinda neat ^^
It's strongly hinted at in game that Farron Swamp is actually where Oolacile used to be, by the prescene of the talking mushroom corpses, Elizabeth's corpse, Dusk's set next to said corpse, and the Oolacile magic scroll all being found there. And another thing pointing towards the ringed city being Londor that I only noticed a few minutes ago, is that there are little figures of Sister Friede carved onto the door going into the church of Felianore
KittyGirl 586 The ringed city is Londor and it also seems to be every other world in dark souls including earthen peak Ds2 and original firelink shrine Ds1. A lot people aren't getting all the refrences because they never played the other two.
I believe it was the old pigmy lady at the start of the dlc who says that you are at the place where all the great empires go when they lose their might and power. This was what she said: "At the close of the Age of Fire, all lands meet at the end of the earth. Great kingdoms and anaemic townships will be one and the same. The great tide of human enterprise, all for naught. That's why I'm so taken by this grand sight. This must be what it's like to be a god."
Well..the demon prince area looks a lot like firelink shrine and..below that far below..in the dark waters of the ringed city, you do find the white trees and items from Oolacile. You also turn into a humanity sprite if you use chameleon, It's very possible that it is oolacile
iWillWakeYouUp also, the massive tree-goat things in Farron Swamp use them, I don't think they're reused assets. Knowing Dark Souls, everything is chosen extremely specifically. More lore implications maybe
Hey Vaati! I have a quite interesting one, if you didn't already know. Lapp, in Swedish actually translates to patch in English! A little hint towards who Lapp really is
a small thing to note but, in the room where you summon shira, just before midir's drop into his fight, the statues in the room look to be of primordial serpents, showing what their full bodies look like. it's a small detail but it debunks the kaath and Frampt are two sides of one being from Dks 1
I have a note as well The starting shield for the pyromancer features a two-headed serpent of some kind... I like to believe that even the characters ingame thought the primordial serpents were connected too, so that's how it was portrayed to us.
I just finally beat the Ringed City. At the time I was just overwhelmed by the difficulty of the enemies and the constant invasions and hard boss fights for it to have much lore impact, but coming snd watching this video now gives me this nostalgia that I was hoping for while playing through it. I’m attempting to platinum the game so I’m going to play the Ringed City again as well.
I was hoping you would touch on the Primordial Serpent statues in the new DLC and how their body differs greatly from the statues located in the Grand Archives. The new ones seem to have much more of a Dragon type body whereas the old ones in the Archives seem to have a much more humanoid type of body albeit with wings instead of arms. It seemed very curious to me and I haven't found anything on Google or the Steam forums about it. Hope you see this Vaati, I love your videos and am sure you'll be able to make something of it
My heart burned when i saw u made a video about the ringed city because i first wanted to play it. But after ive finished it yesterday i was so sad cause the only bad thing about dark souls is that it ends. But then i realised ''hey, vaati is still there!'' and i was so happy remembering that there is this one youtuber that mastered the skill of telling the stories of dark souls and my joy returned! Thank you!
I've never seen mentioned that there is a ringed knight wielding paired greatswords in the Gael boss area. If you leave filianores rest and trek left you will see him. He drops a titanite slab.
they preach that humans should not fear the abys and embrace it but the mask you find says that they failed as preachers of the abys because they let their hunger consume them hence the let the feast begin and why the npc keeps preaching how the abys is not to be feared.
They also seem to hint at invaders when they tell of three people who embraced the dark. The first one clearly refers to Alva and we find him later as an invader. The other two im not sure but i guess one is the silver knight, the other maybe the moaning knight.
One is Alva (or Greirat, if you think he's somehow a knight and Loretta is his beloved) The girl who fears the crawling things is Irina. The knight who fears the girl is Eygon. The learning guy is Orbeck. The one who slew her kin is Sirris. The non-grub Finger is Leonhard.
Interesting. I seem to have missed one encounter with the talking locust. After the first one and the alva invasion, i thought they were are heralding the npc invaders. But it did not seem to fit after the first one. Never crossed my mind he might be referring to other Npcs outside the dlc. But you seem to be spot on, i totally missed the hints for Sirris, even though they are very clear and precise XD neither moon nor sunless sky. Just like the others.
You can tell vaati had fun playing as an humanity sprite.
He couldn't help but to dance as one. xD

Interesting info: Lapp means patch in swedish :-)
lap in Danish means patch aswell xD
Exactly the same in Norwegian. Seems to be a theme in this DLC (lapp, "Harald" knights - Norwegian/Scandinavian first name), along with Irish mythology (Midir, god of the underworld).
It's almost like Sweden and Denmark are the same country.
In norwegian too. So, in all scandinavian languages.
blender7 the Scandinavian languages (Danish, Swedish and Norwegian) are actually so similar that in most cases we can understand each other just fine even though we aren't speaking the same language.
The Hag also transforms into an angel once you kill Gael, the angel patrols peacfully and doesnt attack.
thats nice, she is one of the many characters i grew irrationally attached to despite only talking to her 3 times... i just went to see if she was fine after finishing the DLC a few days back and was really sad to find her ashes...
Slightly wrong information here. She turns into angel after you wake Fillianor. Doesnt require to beat Gael
the story of Lapp is honestly one of my favorites in all of souls, maybe even ever. your sole "friend" who's been with you, one way or another, through each of the games, always up to his usual tricks, always persisting. yet, finally, he was able to reach the true end of the world, only to lose himself.
Well said
Yet finding solaire at the end of the world would have been a lot cooler.

'Oppressing' is such a harsh word... I prefer 'Containing'
Humans and their Abyss are full of hunger and greed.
Gwyndolin I love you.
Gwyndolin I really like this theory, I didn't even think about it even though I've fought him countless times

That depends. Do they share the same voice actress?

Vaati! You can also revive Judicator Argo with the Velka statue in the Undead Settlement.
I guess it has some story significance.
Like the "True" ending in ds2?

Before the fight with Midir, you see serpents with arms and legs. So wait the primordial serpents are growing wings.. now arms and legs.. HMMM?
Comes on now people, it's obvious what's happening. Primordial serpents have been profiting off of mans struggles from the start, you can see almost serpent like symbols on Gwyns armor. They're turning themselves into dragons through the power of souls.
'The serpent is an imperfect dragon and symbol
of the Undead. Its habit of devouring prey
even larger than itself has led to an
association with gluttony.'
and BOOM ancient dragons. Everything happens again. Dark Souls 1 remastered confirmed?!
pa ms we only ever saw the head they could have had feet and little fat bodies we dont know
Considering they're called primordial 'serpents', doubtful.
Well probly easier to carve statues in that manner
Most of scandinavians serpents are considered dragons. There is a difference between a dragon and a wyvern, but both can be seen as a serpents since they are represented with a long snake-like body. The primordial serpents could be the dragons we know.

James Kun she's always hostile dumbass
Same with me when I thought hawkwood was a hollow sitting on the shrine's stairs.
She turns hostile only after you shatter Filianore's Kinder Egg. Once you do you are thrown into the future, which is why you fight her in her room, only destroyed by time now.
Jay F It wasn't the future. It was the illusion. Bitch been druggin us since we 1st came in.
EDIT**
Lastly, just stumbled upon this, but the stone humped hag in the Dreg Heap dies on her own if you progress far enough into the DLC.
It's probably because you woke Filianore. Check if she's at Filianore's Rest maybe?
After you wake Filianore, you've pretty much betrayed her, and she'll later invade you to a ruined structure to the right of Filianore's rest.
Its touching the egg
Did you notice that you can also revive Argo through the Velka statue in the Undead Settlement? There are certainly some lore implications there.

@@3700rero except that would be way harder because Manus was a human and Midir is an archdragon so thank the lords we finished Midir beforehand.
@@nguyeninhtri1155 Fuck the lords but yes so agree.
Didn't notice the titanite, that's awesome
Awesome statue, sadly all you get is a Chloranthy ring +3
there's no potential. we already know from yuria of londor that she was either working for kathe or carrying on his will as she mentions him by name.
Anybody notice that "Oscar of Astora" his name broken down in Old English is "Os" = God/Divine "Car" = Spear
so is midir the abyss dragon mentioned by the milwood knights ?
Was wondering the same thing
Hrishikesh Sriman Narayan yes. I'm about 90% sure.
Wouldn't think so.
According to Shira, he was in danger of forsaking his vows, meaning it hasn't happened yet.
Hrishikesh Sriman Narayan no
+Sensko Time is convoluted also This huge speculation but I think The Millwood Knights are forsworn (they are in the painted world) because they lost all purpose when they discovered that the abyss dragon they thought a manifestation of dark was actually defending the world against it
I've been trying to decipher what the Man-Locusts are talking about during there little speeches about the dark, and as far as I can guess right now they appear to be talking about various NPCs.
"One was a wayfaring knight, on an endless, forbidden search.
Only the Abyss granted closure, if not reunion with his beloved."
- Most likely this refers to Alva, considering his later appearance within the city and the nod to him being "Wayfaring". Likely the Abyss granting him closure refers to his taking comfort in Zullie, a dark witch.
"One met the dark with learning. But in the end, learned his knowledge was wanting."
- This one is tricky.
"One poor girl slew her own kin, but even so, was embraced, enveloped by the Abyss."
- This is most likely referring to Karla, as the Dark Edge sorcery described how it was "passed from mother to daughter" and "the young girl [if this is indeed Karla herself] never swung it more than once", presumably to kill her mother.
Other than her, another girl who we know slew her kin would be Seiglinde, though she is as far as we know completely unrelated to the Dark, so unless something happened to her after the events of DS1 this seems unlikely.
"And so, she lived in fear. Of the dark, of the things that gnawed at her flesh."
- Obviously Irina, though what is interesting is how the locust claims that "The Abyss has spawned no such creature". Indeed, the insects that we assumed to be haunting Irina are from the Deep, not the Dark, so I wonder how Irina is being affected by them, unless the two forces are more related than even the locusts know.
"And so, despite his weighty armour, he lived in fear. Of a delicate thing, little more than a girl."
- Given that this line is from the same locust as the previous one, we can assume this to be Eygon, who also appears later in the DLC. I wonder if he did in fact live in fear of Irina, or lived in fear for her. I always knew he cared ( ˘ ³˘)♥
If not him, this description could also apply to several characters from DS2, including Raime, Alva and Vendrick himself, though none of them match up to the whole statement as much as Eygon does.
What's really interesting about all this however, is how the locusts even know about these people. Have the become almost legendary figures throughout the ages? Can the Dark share experiences between it's creations in the same way you talk about how demons do in this video? Very odd.
The wayfaring knight is in reference to Alva and Zullie
I thought the "Poor girl who slew her own kin" was Sirris, since the locust also mentions a "Sunless Sky" and Sirris slew her own grandfather.
Here is a neat little thing: the arena you fight the Demon Prince in seems to be the original Firelink Shrine from DS1.

You can see the original firelink architecture on the arena. A round indent on the ground where the bonfire should be, a well next to it, all the arches, and the hole in the ground that should lead into the altar.
Olli Sippola thats crazy
lol no
Malcom Alexander I said the same thing when I saw it, fortunately I was the only one of my group of friends that noticed it because I played dark souls 1
The purging monument one, I happened across a weird hit-box in the middle of the swamp... right past the staircase and just randomly popped items next to it. Within a few minutes I turned into a humanity and was like, "AWESOME!" Then, I found the "riddle" and solved it by being like, "oh, yea, maybe I can turn into the sprite?"
PURE LUCK BUILD, YO!
Luck: 99
and behind this wall is a secret giant dad boss battle and behind this wall is another boss battle but its solair and behind that wall.....
TheNamesNate Ocelotte?
OOOOOCEEEELOOOOOOOOOTTTEEE
That's COMMANDER Ocelotte for you
i totally forgot about Ocelotte.
Why is he no Boss? From, why is this the last DLC...
GermanKraut because he is an invisible baby.
I could've called Lapp's identity just based on that voice alone. It's ALWAYS Patches.
It's always Patches, except when it's Lautrec.
Alexandra Wicks i put a "liar ahead" message before talking to him the last time, he couldn't fool me squatting like that ;)
Alexandra Wicks Someone left a message saying "Monstrosity ahead" in my game when you first see him. I didn't get it at first then it randomly hit me while I was exploring the swamp. lol
Oh man I couldn't believe that Lapp was no other than the beloved to us all Siegward of catarina? Amirite guys?
his favorite character !!
Yeah I bet Matt was shocked to see good ol' Siegward in the DLC.
I never had a more perfect feeling of fulfillment, then when you fought the spear of the church with patches. This alone made him my favorite character in all of the games.
Vaati you missed the fact that the Demon Prince boss fight arena is the Firelink Shrine from Dark Souls 1. Well included, Upvote so he see's this!
Hell! You're right! If only Frampt was there :(
All I want is a reunion with the serpents!
Infected Nobody, Would've been epic! Although the subtle almost completely unrecognizable shrine felt like a perfect hint of how much things have changed since the glory days
Infected Nobody Statues.
Awoken Genius Aren't they found throughout the base game as well? I might be mistaken but they didn't seem new to me, the ones near Midir
I thought the room was that shit cave of DS2. Hell, even the swamp village is a big shout out to DS2.
I figured out #1 early on. "Lapp" actually means "Patch" in Norwegian.
same in swedish, would therefore guess it has a similar translation in danish since the three languages are so similar
Didrik Lundh It does. Yet in Danish it is only with a single "P"
Thats what happens when you get lost and lose your personality. You become a nordic speaking person.
I figured it out as soon as I met him because he literally has the same voice... I said to my friend "either this is patches or they completely ran out of budget and had to reuse a voice actor."
If you put your sign down in the room before midir hole you get summoned as a church of a spear and fight patches.
I know a cave's a cave and I'm probably like 5 years late to this revelation, but the cave in which you fight Darkeater Midir, doesn't the view look like the cave in the cutscene where all the nekkid not-yet-humans find the fire before the age of disparity?
It indeed is the same place
DONT SLEEP DONT EAT DONT DRINK JUST THINK ABOUT POSTING MORE VIDEOS
FEAR NOT THE DARK MY FRIEND
And let the feast begin.
Invisible Fiddle I have no idea.
i just assumed that the preacher were just cannibalistic or something, "fear not the dark my friend, and let the feast begin", "dont fear death and get in my belly"
Trust Patches one last time? You bet your ass I will.
Pff you fool
would've been really hype if he kicked you down first, then jumped down with you.
Great video lad. They never cease to inform and impress :)
thenthapple holy crap you watch vatti vidya
Dude...did u die?
Am I the only one who thought Lapp was Lautrec at first because his and Patches' voices are pretty similar..?
Lautrec is Patches though...
No, lautrec isnt Patches. The version of lautrec in DS3 is Leonhart.
They both have the same voice actor
@Bernardo Alves the bedpost you've stubbed your toe on. Yep it's patches.
@@theblackbaron4119 your loving girlfriend? You guessed it, kicked off a ledge
MatPat's gonna lose his shit when he sees Siegward in the Ringed City
EDIT: I can't spell
Matpat is a cleric
Idunno, he looks reasonably sane.
wcs792 lmfao, matpat dumb af
Yes.
Siegward The Spider? Of Catarina Hyena?
Right when I gave the painter girl the blood of the dark soul, I knew the series has finally come to an end. I decided not to give my name up since the dark soul isn't about me, it's about all of us. For we have all dived and played in From Software and Miyazaki's painted world called the dark souls series. What a wonderful video game series that is dark yet holds hope for humanity as a whole. The real world is foul and broken, we surely have all come to this conclusion. It's the painted worlds from our imagination that gives us the drive to tackle what we call life everyday. Thank you From Software for a wonderful gaming experience that far exceeds any other during this generation.
ronjon707 ok cool but I wanted the world to be named after fart sniffer so I gave my name
PrettyDamnDandy lolz
but who could resist 'the painted world of DLCharacter'
ronjon707 I gave the painter my name. Why? Because Kawaii Desu Chan is gonna be a very interesting name for the painting ya know!
hi everyone! i'm not advertising but i'm a lore enthusiast such as you all! please if you have the will, read this post made by me, i really want to bring up a comprehensive look on the entire dlc! www.reddit.com/r/darksouls3/comments/62fjlr/ringed_city_dlc_lore_analysis_and_interpretation/
Again highly unlikely but LET ME DREAM DAMMIT
woah
Thats what I was thinking as well lol
The ending is so abrupt I was thinking that the "blood" of the dark soul must be there for a reason.
(my painting's name is Kawaii Desu Chan and I'm damn proud of it)
Luka Kapanadze i think she created the dark souls 1 world which is why so many details are different in the sequels
One thing I recognized being a massive dark souls 1 fan, is that after smouldering lake, you enter the demon ruins, which is almost what's left of the witches and Lost Izalith. I found what looked like Quelana or her younger sister, who was the leader of the daughters of chaos covenant.
I had an emotional moment when Lapp said he would always be my friend, cause I knew what would happen when he got back his memories. :(
I literally heard lapp begin to talk, heard who he sounded like and said, "Nope, fuck you patches." And that's the story of how patches died for good.
SAME!!!! as much as I like the lesson taught by our "old friend" I went "nope, your dead you lying sonofabitch!"
It was real easy, here you go" and gave me a Titanite Slab...
if ypou get the slab before he does, he gives you a Siegbreu and makes a toast ^^
It's L If he fetches you the slab, he leaves behind a brew after the boss fight next to the bonfire.
It's interesting that the various dark spirits in this DLC can invade you without you being embered.
Thanks to Vaati we don't need to do all this work ourselves... or even play the game lol
Eh to be fair there is still enjoyment to be had doing it yourself. These vids just help you find em :D
even when i found all of them by myself, i still want to watch this
because well... Vaati
It's been out like a few hours and there's already things I missed?!?! I literally just downloaded the DLC now
I can't watch the video now because of spoilers but I'll leave a like anyway and come back when I'm done 😊
Kokkie Monster 69 are you done?
Its been out for 13 hours now lol thats more than a few bruh
Well vaati got the dlc a few days ago before it became public so he had some time to find these things.
I recognized Patches' voice. But I never thought this... god damn.
The final boss implies there is something special about our protagonist
SPOILERS
When Gael is killing the Pygmy lords and taking their Dark Souls, he turns to you and demands your Dark Soul, implying your Dark Soul is powerful enough to be on par with the Pygmy lords.
Hmm.... you're on to something.
VAATI COME SEE THIS!!!
and actually powerful enough to defeat Gael who already having so much darksouls in him..
Well no, plus those pygmies aren't strong.
TheDandyWizard And how do you know that? We never saw them and what they could do before Gael slaughtered them
TheDandyWizard And how do you know that? We never saw them and what they could do before Gael slaughtered them
I know that I am late and propably no one will read this, but after hearing about the many children of Gwyn I realised he has a lot of common with Zeus, as portrayed by ancient greek mythology. Both command lightning, both are the greatest gods among their respective pantheons and both have a lot of children with different women. Not that this changes the lore, but it is a nice touch
Ant Pic Was thinking about that after Vaati mentiones Yorshka's mother. It helps to cement him as even more of a dick, doesn't it?
Not trying to rain on your parade, but the Gwyn -Zeus idea has been obvious since the trailer for Dks1 man.
well no shit Sherlock
Isn't it weird that Patches says "I'll stick you in my prayers"? He hates clerics after all.
mocking them perhaps

Hey Vaati stop playing Monster Hunter you're doing a Dark Souls video.
I caught on that the ringed city is indeed londor but I had a constant feeling that it might have been built on top of oolacile.
This was what she said:
"At the close of the Age of Fire, all lands meet at the end of the earth.
Did you notice that Gael's red aura is composed by skulls?
Martyr Logarius?
Reused assets from Bloodborne.
Oh ok, didn't play BB :P
iWillWakeYouUp also, the massive tree-goat things in Farron Swamp use them, I don't think they're reused assets. Knowing Dark Souls, everything is chosen extremely specifically. More lore implications maybe
LucaShonen94 Gael 2nd/3rd phase = Guts
Sneaky Miyazaki is sneaky ;-)
> new ds dlc drops
>gets more pumped for vaati videos.
You probably realized already but Lorian killed the demon prince not Lothric like you said.
@Spin-chan Art nah, lothric was tiny and weak
Hey Vaati! I have a quite interesting one, if you didn't already know. Lapp, in Swedish actually translates to patch in English! A little hint towards who Lapp really is
You probably have though, went through the comments and saw that many people have already pointed it out.
The building after the Demon fight is Firelink shrine from Dark Souls 1. It's the place where Frampt pokes his head up.
Lapp is the swedish translation for Patches
spenespene Good find!
spenespene hey that's actually true
Wonder what name the Swedish Dark Souls players got saddled with.
Famygdala Most just bought the English version.
Lapps whole armour is a 16-17th century swedish armour set with a frogmouth helmet! Nice find!
Patches laughing sounds like Mark Hamill's Joker
That first secret blew my mind. just an amazing puzzle put into the dlc.
vaati, the milwood arrows say that they fough their sworn enimy, the abyss dragon with these
a small thing to note but, in the room where you summon shira, just before midir's drop into his fight, the statues in the room look to be of primordial serpents, showing what their full bodies look like. it's a small detail but it debunks the kaath and Frampt are two sides of one being from Dks 1
I have a note as well
The starting shield for the pyromancer features a two-headed serpent of some kind... I like to believe that even the characters ingame thought the primordial serpents were connected too, so that's how it was portrayed to us.
"Every age it seems, is tainted by the greed of men..." -Patches
Hope you see this Vaati, I love your videos and am sure you'll be able to make something of it
If you load into your game in the Judicator Argo boss room when he is dead, he calls for the Spear of the church.
his exact words are "Divine spear of yore, make haste"
My heart burned when i saw u made a video about the ringed city because i first wanted to play it. But after ive finished it yesterday i was so sad cause the only bad thing about dark souls is that it ends. But then i realised ''hey, vaati is still there!'' and i was so happy remembering that there is this one youtuber that mastered the skill of telling the stories of dark souls and my joy returned! Thank you!
I've never seen mentioned that there is a ringed knight wielding paired greatswords in the Gael boss area. If you leave filianores rest and trek left you will see him. He drops a titanite slab.
what's up with that bug thing that says "and let the feast begin"?
there are some of them who are just talking if you get near them.
they preach that humans should not fear the abys and embrace it but the mask you find says that they failed as preachers of the abys because they let their hunger consume them hence the let the feast begin and why the npc keeps preaching how the abys is not to be feared.
They also seem to hint at invaders when they tell of three people who embraced the dark. The first one clearly refers to Alva and we find him later as an invader. The other two im not sure but i guess one is the silver knight, the other maybe the moaning knight.
One is Alva (or Greirat, if you think he's somehow a knight and Loretta is his beloved)
The girl who fears the crawling things is Irina.
Jarnauga I guess so. there are actually three of them you encounter, the same number of those invaders if i'm not mistaken.
I think the main trailer for Dark Souls 3 foreshadowed the final arena where you fight Gael.
Wow, so much time have I spent on DS3 from launch, and still I find new things about it after all these years.
