With this being nearly a year since my channel blew up with Dark Souls 3, I wanted to really put in as much effort as possible to make this video great, so sorry for the long wait. Stream incoming at 6:00 PM EST (www.twitch.tv/thedemodcracy). I'll be streaming Bloodborne speedrun routing - so I hope you'll join me there after watching here and voting. Don't forget to leave a comment with your thoughts on the bosses if you don't mind! Thank you all!!

He has Pontiff at 12 now which I find shocking when I remember saying last year he got his ass kicked by him the second time he versed him and the community voted him at 2 for hardest boss. I wish he ranked the bosses of the experience in general rather than his experience with his speed run bleed build. Not everyone runs a build like that or can parry Pontiff that easily during their first play through. It would make a better list if he listed them on the experience he first had with the bosses and the mechanics of them, not just say "you can parry him and he's easy". The community votes is the one I'll actually care about.

I personally would rather a fight be short yet difficult, rather than long and drawn out. for this reason I despise the number 1 dragon. I hate endurance fights, they are lazy and unappealing in my opinion but I do believe they have their place. Dancer gets my number one as most memorable boss in dark souls. Who get's yours?

I think a big part is play strategy, I was a dex sword and board build and I found a lot of the fights like dancer, abyss watchers, or Nameless to be easier then fights like Midir because I can block attacks. Midir does not allow a shield build he just breaks your stance every single hit.

Playing as a Sorcerer my first playthrough, the most fun fight I had was probably Friede, she has the perfect mix of fast attacks which are fun to dodge and giving you good windows to hit (as a Sorcerer), and it's quite challenging learning to dodge her attacks, especially when she goes invisible in the first phase. I started thinking there's no dodging that since she can do 2 different attacks after uncloaking, one where she hits instantly and one where she winds up before attacking, and the one that hits instantly I was pretty sure was impossible to dodge, or so I thought until I heard the steps and the screeching sound of her scythe on the ground and then it clicked for me. Such a fun fight, same with the Demon Princes and Gael (probably didn't enjoy Gael as much because I beat him so soon I couldn't fully "enjoy" the fight, as I did with Friede), but Friede takes the top spot for me.

I found out that weapon choice will heavily influence the difficulty of a boss. After i discovered the redistribute-featue from Rosaria during my first playthrough, i tried out the widely-used Twinblades.
They are great, I understand why everyone uses them. Many things were suddenly easier.
However I struggled against Midir and couldn't beat him in 20+ tries. However after I changed back to my strength build and my heavy Greatsword, it was second try.
Turns out the additional range and the wide overhead-swing when two-handed makes it a lot easier to punish many of his attacks.

Probably in the minority here but, despite how easy they are I really like the Deacons of the Deep as a boss fight. In my personal opinion aside from the difficulty they have to be one of the most immersive bosses in the series. They are the boss of a huge cathedral which is just awesome, they fit the area. And on top of this the Music... The music is just *perfect* for the boss, theirs no other way to describe it. And in addition to this the way the fight plays out is just really fun and different, all of these deacons trying to protect the archdeacon as they all channel/ pray together to curse you. Though they are an extremely easy boss, I don't think they deserve the hate they get, in design/ on paper they are great, its just their stats/ numbers need to be better. But again I can see if theirs people who play DS mainly for the difficulty I could see why this boss would have been disappointing

I personally like Dancer of the Boreal Valley in terms of music, just because I recently discovered in a video that you can track her attacks through the music, you can also hear her footsteps which is kind of a hint to listen out during the fight, in my opinion the Dancer wasn't a very difficult boss but I like how unlike other brutish bosses and whatnot you get this one who sort of just flows into her attacks. I just started on NG+ on a playthrough and once again I had to kill Emma but I did it before I even went to Vordt this time. Took a few tries as she two shotted me without being embered but it is a great boss if you ask me

In most games, if a boss fight is cool to look at, or listen to, then I'll forgive it if it's easy.
But remember that this is Dark Souls we're talking about here. One of Dark Souls' defining features is its difficult but rewarding gameplay, and a Dark Souls boss fight should exemplify this point seeing as they are meant to be a final test of the player's skill before letting them move on to the next area. The Deacons don't do this at all, so they fail by default in my opinion.

On my first playthrough (which I'm still on) I decided to do the ariandel DLC while I was underlevelled (meaning I didn't have enough damage to kill gravetender fast enough), and let me tell you that gravetender & greatwolf becomes VERY difficult if you have to fight them both at the same time, taking me a really long time and inflated attempt count to beat this guy (though not as much as friede, that's for sure). Also even after beating friede while pretty underlevelled and inexperienced, I found Pontiff to be a surprising challenge, because after doing the entirety of ariandel I was pretty overlevelled and was steamrolling through the content up until pontiff. That boss feels like it should be placed much later due to how overtuned and agressive that fight is, especially without parrying (though he still isn't easy to learn how to parry).

...Goddamn, the bosses in this game are pretty much all flat out incredible. I could talk about so many, I could talk about the beautiful buildup and creative gimmick of Lothric and Lorian, I could talk about the absolute *awe* inspired in me by the Abyss Watchers, I could talk about the wondrous finale brought on by both Slave Knight Gael and the Soul of Cinder, but I’m not gonna talk about any of those.
Instead, I’m going to pay some due respect to one of the most looked-down upon bosses in the entire game, that being the humble Vordt of the Boreal Valley.
I’ll never forget my first time facing Vordt, about a month ago, since I only recently bought this game after waiting SO long and went through it blind, which was another unforgettable experience all it’s own. But even after all this time, and all the fantastic foes I’ve come to terms with, Vordt still sticks out in my mind, and I think the reason is that he is such a *good* gateway boss.
Of course Vordt is piss easy to veterans of the game, that’s natural. But the first time facing Vordt, this is your first bout against a beast-type foe in the entire game, and while he may seem simple on your next go, he’s *deceptively* simple. He looks intimidating, he acts intimidating, and he hits like a fucking freight train, and all this is meant to scare new players and make them feel insignificant against this massive foe. But with how simple his attacks are, it’s not long before you start noticing the patterns, and, consciously or not, the new player begins to learn how to dodge. While Gundyr is a great first boss, it’s very likely that new players will scrape through it on their first go by the skin of their teeth and not be subjected to the learning experience that comes with Souls bosses. Vordt is not that. You *will* die to Vordt, probably multiple times (I died a total of 8 times to him), but in the process, you begin to understand the learning process that comes for beating every boss to come. Even when Vordt changes it up halfway through (in one of the COOLEST music drops ever conceived, don’t @ me), it still doesn’t stop teaching, because these new attacks are more generously telegraphed, allowing players to “learn on the fly” what to do and how to dodge, culminating in the ultimate adrenaline rush as you take down the most imposing foe you’ve come across in the game. His moveset is deliberately made simple for new players to contrast his intimidating appearance so that new players can get the full experience of learning how to take down a big baddie in the best environment possible.
I’ll be moving onto Bloodborne soon, after I finally defeat the Soul of Cinder myself, and I’m sure many more worthy foes and memorable scrapes await me in Yharnam, but I will always remember the lowly Vordt, as the perfect example of teaching the player without saying a single word.

Imagine if Yhorm was as large as he seemed in the first trailer for Dark Souls 3..
Imagine you're on a cliff, and while you're looking out into the vast open battlefield, Yhorm stands and you see his massive size in the distance.
He starts throwing boulders and trees at you from this distance. Keeping the main idea of the boss fight, there is a special bow that you can equip which is located on a narrow passageway, so you'll have to time it right if you don't want him to chuck a boulder and smack you off of it. You can avoid this easily though, as while he's rising up in the beginning, you can quickly run towards the narrow passage and run back, so he doesn't smack you off.
Run back and start firing the arrows. ( and the arrows are unlimited only for the boss fight.)(it's a greatbow btw) One he's down to half health, he throws a final rock, which causes the cliff to crumble, sending you down with it.
You survive the fall, and Yhorm comes running straight toward you for the final phase, where you can now face him head on while he is engulfed in flames. To increase the atmosphere, the camera is zoomed out so you can view most of his massive stature. You don't need a special item for this phase. Just a classic boss fight between a little man/woman and the true lord of giants.
    How amazing would that be.

I agree with you actually, he's up there on my list of favorite bosses in the game. It starts off as a straight duel - my favorite kind of boss. He's intimidating, keeps you on your toes, but he's not that hard. Then phase two starts, and things really go nuts. The soundtrack picks up, these scary butterfly things are shooting LASERS at you, he gets pissed off and starts two-handing that axe, destroying the railings all over the place. The fight gets so intense you start to wonder if the bridge is gonna collapse from all the bombardment. Love the boss. :D

The hard ones on pretty much every play through:
    1. Midir
    2. Nameless King
    3. Gael
    4. Demon Prince
    5. Friede
    6. Soul of Cinder
Challenging, but easier each time you fight them:
    7. Twin Princes
    8. Pontiff
    9. Champion Gundyr
    10. Dancer
    11. Dragonslayer Armour
    Mid level difficulty bosses:
    12. Halflight
    13. Oceiros
    14. Aldrich
    15. Old Demon King
    Easy:
    16. Abyss Watchers
    17. Gavetender & Greatwolf
    18. Crystal Sage
    19. Vordt
    20. Curse-Rotted Greatwood
Easy to the point where you almost feel bad about yourself if they kill you:
    21. Deacons
    22. Iudex
    23. Ancient Wyvern
    24. Yhorm (w/ Storm Ruler)
    25. Wolnir

    • @ryanwilliams6221
      @ryanwilliams6221 7 лет назад +7

Idk, for me personally the Twin Princes were very hard the first and 2nd times, but got easier and easier each play through. I feel like they're hard initially because of Lorian's teleporting and the awkward combos that follow this. Once you get that down, all you really have to worry about is his beam attack because of it's power, but even that is very easy to avoid. Phase 2 is pretty much the same, but you just have to always remember that Lothric's magic attacks are hidden a short amount of time behind Lorians's attacks. Plus it's extremely easy to get Lorian down in this phase, which allows you to do massive damage to Lothric while he's reviving his brother.
Vordt is super easy, but I don't feel like he belongs in the bottom category.... Yhorm takes like 5 total hits because of Storm Ruler, Wyvern can be one-shotted, Deacons are the definition of pathetic minus their ability to curse (which is easily preventable), Iudex is the tutorial to the game and Wolnir's bracelets make the fight almost impossible to not win. At least Vordt, while very easy, is an actual fight and requires you to somewhat pay attention to what you're doing in his second phase.

    • @ryanwilliams6221
      @ryanwilliams6221 7 лет назад +1

Iudex was probably the only boss on that list that I was a little stumped on where to put him. I personally thought he belonged there due to his relatively low damage output and his pretty low health pool. His combos can be tricky if you aren't used to the way Souls is played though and his 2nd phase can be an awkward fight, so I could definitely see him being a little higher up.

I commented here a few years ago, on my first playthrough. Now i’ve been playing for 2 years and nearly 1400 hours. Here’s my new list.
    (Least difficult to most)
    25. Iudex Gundyr - Could probably win playing with my feet and blindfolded.
    24. Vordt of the Boreal Valley - Used to be the bane of my existence, now nothing more than a speedbump on the way to the Undead Settlement.
    23. Ancient Dragon - I hate the Dragon Kin
    22. High Lord Wolnir - Do I really need to explain?
    21. Deacons of the Deep - Self explanatory. Just slap the first five once or twice, then backstab the archdeacon and whale on him.
    20. Curserotted Greatwood - Incredibly annoying boss, but with charcoal pine resin, this boss becomes a cakewalk.
    19. Yhorm the Giant - Very well telegraphed hits, only lands hear because hits pack one hell of a punch.
    18. Champion Gundyr - I have this fight Down to a science, i can fairly regularly no hit this fight, but his hits do pack a punch.
    17. Abyss Watchers - Very low health and high stagger potential makes this boss very easy.
    16. Dancer of the Boreal Valley - I don’t really know what to say, just not that hard for me.
    15. Old Demon King - Does a lot of damage, especially if you fight him midgame, but attacks are well telegraphed and health isn’t that great.
    14. Crystal Sage - The only early game boss that gives me any trouble, i almost always die 2-3 times to this boss.
    13. Halflight, Spear of the Church - NPC is easy, but if you fight a player, then you could either have the easiest fight or the hardest.
    12. Champion Gravetender/Greatwolf - Really really annoying boss, almost always gives me some trouble.
    11. Pontiff Sulyvahn - One of my favorite bosses, and certainly fairly difficult.
    10. Aldritch, Devourer of Gods - GOD i hate this boss. The arrow spam can kill even the beefiest of builds, and the spells can do serious Damage.
    9. Nameless King - Only this high because of the King of Storms. I can no hit nameless, but that’s if i even get to him past that stupid fucking bird.
    8. Dragonslayer Armor - Probably my
strangest ranking. I genuinely could not explain why I have such trouble in this boss.
    7. Oceiros, The Consumed King - Extremely RNG dependent boss, can be easy or hard, I usually find it to be hard.
    6. Twin Princes - Same reasons a Dmod.
    5. Sister Friede - Same reasons as Dmod
    4. Soul of Cinder - This boss has always and probably will always give me trouble. Weirdly enough, I find the second phase harder, the wombo combo is devastating if you get caught in it, granted it’s fairly easy to dodge.
    3. Slave Knight Gael - Immense health coupled with high speed makes this boss extremely difficult.
    2. Darkeater Midir - Having to stay in front of the boss and hit the head leaves you vulnerable to it’s highly damaging attacks, which can 1-2 shot even the tankiest of builds.
    1. Demon Princes - I couldn’t tell you why this boss is so difficult to me, it is to date, the only boss I cannot beat solo, and the only boss that has made me cry. This is not satirical, after about 6 hours on this boss and very nearly defeating it, i was killed and had a full mental breakdown. This is far and away the hardest boss in soulsborne for me

Cheap build is highly subjective, you could get the same results just by using A LOT of weapons with resin if you already know the game enough to find upgrade materials early. I feel like this is more a list from the perspective of "The game has been out for one year and I've been playing it nonstop". For example, in a speedrun Abyss Watchers are probably the hardest boss, while Champion Gundyr and Pontiff wouldn't reach the top half at all. I also feel like exploiting the weaknesses of bosses and using the most effective methods to kill them should count towards a difficulty ranking.

X3N4 this was a personal list I believe. Anyway you should keep in mind that theDemocracy did several playtroughs, and this quite changes your point of view.
In the first 3-4 playtroughs you may find some bosses easier (for example the Dancer) simply because you haven't yet find a proper strategy for other bosses (for example the Nameless King or Sister Friede), to which you die a lot.
But after a while, when you have perfected your skills and you can quite kill every bosses in one try, your perspective changes

I just want to pay respect for Dancer cuz she taught me how to roll like a god.
I never played any of soul series and when I first faced her after vort I really wanted to fight her. Even after my bro told me that she is mid-late game boss I kept trying to beat her at this moment. Now imagine how hard it is to kill her when you only experienced 3 bosses, playing without a shield and your sl is around 30.
After that I roll my way to the victory. Literally. All of the upcoming bosses were jokes including pontiff, Aldrich, soul of cinder and gael.
The only bosses I struggle with rn are the bigs from ringed city (midir and demon princes). All because I were taught how to roll properly.
Thanks you, Dancer Of The Boreal Valley

Wolnir and Aldrich take the crown of easiest bosses since I beat them 1st try. Bought this game a couple of weeks ago. Including DLC
    First ever souls game
My top 5 after first playthrough
5- Consumed King Oceiros-His second phase always got cause I was too defensive
4- Gael- at this point in the game I "got gud" and was able to get the hang of his moveset rather quickly. Only took me half an hour or so until I beat him. Favorite boss battle in terms of presentation though.
3- Midr- took longer for me to beat him compared to Gael, but I got pretty comfortable dodging his attacks quickly.
2- Nameless King- after my first attempt I learned not to lock on. What makes it hard for me is that his attacks are delayed, and my dumb ass quickly reacts and rolls prematurely.
1- Friede- The fight is long. The 3rd phase. Friede is too quick for DS3. Even after many attempts, if I was just the least bit of careless/greedy she killed me. When I finally got her I felt like I just got lucky. Her and Nameless are what trained me for Gael and Midr, so that's why those two were rather easy for me.
After a couple of more playthroughs, my rankings will obviously change.

I Personally find that Gael is not only the Hardest boss in DS3 but also the most well designed. His Quick moves, unforgivable damage output and large pool of health gives him the challenge Darksouls 3 needed. All three phases rely on you switching your style of combat. Not to mention His Small nod to Artorias by swinging the corpse off his sword directly at you. An absolutely Flawless boss.

after dying like 25 times, I could flawlessly dodge through the 1st fase. The 2nd and especially the 3rd fase were a lot harder for me at least, where I would need all my remaining flasks. His 360 slash with both his sword and cape is one of the hardest attacks to properly dodge while staying at the boss. Sometimes he would strike once, sometimes 3 in a row, I felt him to be unpredictable, less of a robot then in the 1st fase. My relief was very high when I finally killed him after a 10 minute fight, and I got reminded why I loved the game so much :)

I'd have ranked Gael at mid tier personally. The only real attack of his that gets me is his quick double slam in the first phase. Always tried to predict the second swing when I should have just followed my gut reaction. He leaves decent openings at the ends of all his attacks and they have a fair amount of wind up even if some come out quick and while annoying most of his projectile attacks aren't too crazy to dodge. Mostly I healed just because chip damage built up. Sulyvahn and everyone ahead of him on the list on the list are definitely more difficult.
I completely agree that he is well crafted though, a true duel and probably the most cinematic battle of the series. The perfect balance of substance, and spectacle.
