OH ELDEN RING! It's finally here. I'm 70 hours deep and completely obssessed. The Elden Ring bosses are phenomenal and as tough as the series has ever had. Today I'll be ranking the easiest Elden Ring bosses and the some of the hardest Elden Ring bosses in part 1 of 2. Last time we ranked Elden Ring bosses including Godrick the Grafted, Rennala Queen of the Full Moon, Regal Ancestor Spirit, Sir Gideon Offnir the All Knowing, Fire Giant, Red Wolf of Radagon, Magma Wyrm Makar, Leonine Misbegotten, Tree Sentinel (Loretta, Knight of the Haligtree), Flying Dragon Agheel, Dragonkin Solider, Commander Niall, and a whole lot more!
Today we get to rank some wild battles like Malenia, Goddess of Rot, Maliketh the Black Blade, Dragonlord Placidusax, Mogh Lord of Blood, Margit the Fell, Morgott the Fell Omen, Starscourge Radahn, Godskin Duo, and plenty more. Mini-boss ranking soon to follow later this week!

This, in my opinion, would make the fight actually bearable, I thought this would be how it worked, so I took my sweet time trying to kill them both in the same window, when I finally did it imagine my elation when no "Enemy Felled" appeared and the skinny fuck just materialized alone out of thin air and then summoned his fat friend. Getting them both to die in the same window takes enough determination, I feel like it would be appropriate if the fight could end like that.

    • @marylandlax3
      @marylandlax3 2 года назад +8

It’s funny you say that cause it took me till I had over 300 hours in the game to realize that. I used mostly a mix of faith based or arcane / bleed weapons for the first 300 hours. Moonveil, Rivers of Blood, Mohgs Spear, Godslayer Greatsword, Ancient Relic Sword, Nagakiba, Antspur Rapier. I could clear out the large majority of the game with ease before you reach Malikeith but once I got to him I always ran into trouble. Malikeith, Godfrey (both versions), and Elden Beast are of the few that I’ve never solo’ed so I’d just summon the mimic just to get it over with.
After the last patch I started experimenting with every strength weapon I knew of and my lord do those weapons make those fights so much easier, Falling Star Beast Jaw is probably my favorite just cause I love the stagger potential and the lighting animation but Malikeith’s Black Blade and Envoys Longhorn are also fun to use. Long story short there’s not a one size fits all weapon or build in the game

Placidusax is one of my favorite bosses. His name is derived from the Latin Placidus, meaning peaceful/gentle/calm; we basically walked in while a dragon was sleeping/regenerating and killed him. If you inspect him closely the wings look ragged and there are scars everywhere. at 13:45 you can see a stump where a neck and head should be, then just after that around 13:50 when he rears up you can see 2 limp necks with missing heads(one is hanging down on our right, and one is wrapped under the arm on our left, pointing up). We fought him like 40% power if we're just talking head count, and that makes this fight all the more incredible to me. This Dragonlord was nowhere near full strength and still pulled out enough lightning to make Gwyn shiver; just imagine him at full strength.

It amazes me how these bosses' difficulty seems to depend on the build. For the first 30 or so hours, I used a sorcerer/spellblade build and I didn't really run into many issues until I ran into Mogh. Mogh easily killed me 40 or so times before I called it quits and respec'd into a bleed build. I still then only just managed to beat him because I got the purifying tear. The only other boss that gave me issues aside from Mogh was Malenia. I first tried my Int build and she killed me 7 or so times before I had enough and I came back respec'd in a Bleed build with a fully upgraded Rivers of Blood. The weapon art on it absolutely punishes her when she leaves you openings and her phase 1 was pretty much a joke for it. Phase 2, on the other hand, yeah it took me a few more tries to beat her phase 2. I really did enjoy fighting Melania because it felt like a dance between two blade masters.

The interesting thing about Godskin Duo is that although killing one doesn't "do anything" because he respawns after a while, the respawn timer is long enough to allow you to kill or mostly kill the other one, as long as you play somewhat aggressive. So even though it's not my favorite fight mechanically, I admit that I like the concept a lot of rewarding aggression. Until Malenia. Jesus, i have NEVER suffered as much as i did with that attack. I forgot to keep a tally, but i'd say 70 deaths is a good guess. It got to a point where i could do a perfect battle just to perish at the Waterfowl Dance move. It was infuriating yet, the rest of the fight is so good (Both in moveset and overall ambience as well as music) so i just kept going (Stubborn as a mule) decided to beat her. I learned how to dodge it. I HAD TO LEARN HOW TO DODGE THE WATERFOWL DANCE "Let me solo her" STYLE. And you know what? that felt both horrible for making me go above and beyond conventional means to defeat a boss, but really rewarding when i finally pulled it off. I think it was partially a mistake. Most bosses are really aggressive and relentless, giving very small windows to heal or attack because the developers counted players using very powerful summons. Like Margit... If you summon the jellyfish, you can almost completely stunlock him with a decent weapon. (just spam charged heavy attack)
So playing with no summons is kind of already a challenge mode. This is especially true for duo bosses. I have nothing against people imposing extra challenges on themselves, but doing so then claiming the game is insanely hard is kind of misleading. (not saying he complains at all, I can feel the true passion for the game).

I finally got my hands on and finished Elden Ring! I know I'm late to the party, but now I am able to watch you and Sunburned Albino's boss ranking videos! It's always interesting to see which bosses in a Souls game are regarded as the biggest troublemakers. Maliketh, definitely deserves a spot. The Godskin Duo most certainly would have been, had I not been using the Dark Moon Greatsword, which I feel okay with using since I fought every single boss without ever using summons or spirit ashes! It was rough! Also, I did manage to end both of the Godskins at the same time, but it doesn't end the fight. They will still revive even if both are dead until that health meter is depleted. This is one of two boss fights in this game where I think Fromsoft has actually included genuine bullshit into the mix for the first time. Unless you count multiple health bars for multiple phases...that's something I haven't liked since Dark Souls 3! Malenia is by far the worst offender. She's got the scarlet rot status effect, has a damn near insta kill grab, can't be staggered during many of her combos, darts and weaves effortlessly around you're attacks since she apparently doesn't have stamina limitations and infinitely more speed than our character...on top of all of this, she has life steal and the satanic waterfowl attack! Seriously, that is THE most bs move in the entire series! It's almost impossible to avoid damage. On top of ALL that, she gets two full health bars. Like, why? Maliketh had two phases but only one health bar. So, why? It's Fromsoft creating artificial difficulty and I don't like it. I wish I could say she was fun to duel, since I really like her design and many of her moves look extremely cool, such as that one where she tosses you in the air and impales you! Unfortunately, I couldn't enjoy it because I was too busy just trying not to die. I think she could have been a great encounter with some tweaks, but as it stands, she is an unfortunate example of Fromsoft creating difficulty without being fair to the player. That being said, this game is rightly being lauded as a masterpiece!

More in-depth advice for Malenia since I know I wouldn’t have minded knowing these things when I fought her:
Malenia is weak to bleed and fire. As such, Rivers of Blood is an excellent weapon for Dex/Arcane builds like myself. Strength/Quality Build, just use Bloodflame Blade, I guess, because I’m not aware of a comparable weapon. Bleed/Bloodfire/Godskin incantations such as Swarm of Flies, Bloodboon, and Black Flame are also highly recommended. For non-magic builds, whatever arrows/bolts/throwing weapons you can find to accomplish the same effect are fine, just watch that stamina and be careful not to leave yourself open..
She’s also weak to Frostbite, so builds with the ability to use that effect will also have an easier time than those without.
Her semi-instakill Vergil copycat combo, while incredibly dangerous, can be mitigated if you book it to the furthest possible point from her as quickly as possible. She’ll likely still get at least one hit in, but most builds with an at least decent amount of HP (~1000) should be able to survive. You can also dodge it if your brain isn’t an under-inflated beachball, but godspeed you on getting that timing down.
Parrying her, while possible, isn’t really recommended since only every third parry is viable for a reposte. The other two will trigger a backstep instead.
The Scarlet Aeonia (scarlet rot flower) she uses at the start of her second health bar and several times thereafter is *very* exploitable for ranged attacks *cough* swarmofflies *cough* dragonice *cough* due to its stupidly long recovery, so just book it to the left and behind her, then let loose.
Her Scarlet Rot Shadow Clone Jutsu is extremely annoying and the clones probably last longer than you’re thinking they do, so just try not to have her use that attack. If she does, just do your best to dodge their swipes and thrusts while keeping an eye on Malenia for her dropdown attack.
Her False Yamato combo gains a Scarlet Rot effect, as if she used a Rotten Grease on her sword, but it’s largely the same attack as her first phase. Just make sure to watch that Scarlet Rot bar.
For Mixed Physick, I recommend Speckled Hardtear and Crimson Crystal Tear. Crimson Crystal Tear because no duh, Speckled Hardtear because Scarlet Rot isn’t fun and I don’t have the recipe for Preserving Boluses.
For Talismans, I recommend the Mottled Necklace, Immunizing Horn Charm (Both for staving off the Rot), Flock’s Canvas Talisman (if using incantations. If using sorcery, use the appropriate counterpart), Erdtree’s Favor (Because extra stamina and equip load), Viridian Amber Medallion/Arsenal Charm/Great Jar’s Arsenal (Replacement for Flock’s Canvas/Sorcery Counterpart, if your build isn’t a magic user).
Spirit Ash (specifically mimic tear) can be extremely helpful if you don’t mind the hit to your pride.
Finally, don’t get greedy but don’t be a coward, because Malenia exploits both.

Watching this and your "unbalanced difficulty" video really made me realize I had a lot more fun with the "easier" bosses. I felt accomplished when I beat them. Not because they were easy, but because they felt more fair. Bosses that instantly get out of an attack, leave no down time, and attack again are not fun. If some of the "easier" bosses had some more HP I think they would have been challenging but fair. The fact that most of these bosses almost require a summon if you want to beat them in less than 30 tries just feels wrong in a series that is about challenging, but fair, 1v1 fights. I died dozens of times to some of these "harder" bosses before summoning others. The result was usually that we would get much closer to a win due to the aggro being split. Winning after summoning 10 different people did not give me that sense of accomplishment, because it felt like I had to summon or waste an entire weekend on the boss. I never felt the need to summon in any other Souls game, rather summoning in those games felt like a way to just beat the boss faster if I wanted to get to a certain item/spell/whatever.
Also I personally dislike how many bosses are bigger than my screen. I died so many times because I could not see the boss attack because their arm was off my screen.
You can use sleep jars on the Godskin Duo boss. I did not know those items existed until I looked at the Duo's Wiki page. Personally I would not rank them that high if you use those items.

I always find these lists fascinating, because everyone's experience differs. Like for me, I went into Malenia expecting an insane grind, so I came in with a bleed build and +10 mimic and beat her in 12 tries. I beat Margott on literally the 1st try (after dying for hours to Margit). The Valiant Gargoyle duo on the other hand, I spent HOURS on and had to eventually quit, and had to come back at level 155ish to beat them. THIS!
Imagine the possibilities, Give us a weapon that turns this game into a fist-version of Sekiro as well as a combo fighting game
One handed, R1 allows punches that can be combed with R2 kicks, both can be charged to make unique combos, L1 allows a Sekiro style parry and L2 allows a flurry of kicks or a stomp depending on how long it’s held
Two-handed allows even more combo potential, the idea being you are now all offense, forgoing the parry, as now the bumpers are assigned to each of your fists while the triggers are your feet, you can combo the attacks up to five times and the combo changes depending on the order and the final hit of the combo changes as well, imagine just a flurry of kicks that ends in a huge wind-up punch, or straight up the Lone Shadow kicks combo.
The best part? Two handed can stun like a great sword but is balanced out by a combo ended having long recovery, knock back and stamina cost

PSA: You can keep attacking a dead godskin in the godskin duo while he is the death animation to keep damaging their health bar. You can get about 3000 damage before he is gone and respawn.

And half the time, THAT won’t even work. I tried it too, at the point where the sword was glowing gold, and none of the parries ever registered. Don’t even get me started on how the Blasphemous Claw is literally the exact same set of animation frames as medium shields, *and we all know how weird the parry times with THOSE shields were in Dark Souls 3,* so they just had to carry it on here as well. 🤦🏻‍♂️ FromSoft can’t even replicate DS3 right!

Malenia is the only boss where I had to throw my greatsword build out of the window and just grab up a bleed weapon. The greatsword was too slow to get good damage on her before she would just heal it all back up. But bleed is just busted and takes chunks out of her health bar.

If you're running a strength build I've had a lot of success with Hoarfrost stomp on the twinblade. It's an odd strategy but the damage it puts out on top of the Frostbite procs it's absolutely wild. It takes a bit of getting used to and you'll still have to dodge her but it can stun on hit and allow you to melt her HP. That being said, best of luck with anime wombo combo as that has demolished everything I've tried other than a great shield with Barricade which still allows her to heal but at least you're not dead in the process XD.

hard disagree about Malenia's fight not being fun. I ran a dual-wield build when I fought her my first time (straight swords at first, but I transitioned to scimitars with Bloodhound's Step eventually), and though it still took hundreds of times for me to learn her moveset, I still found her to be not only engaging, but thrilling as I danced with her among those flowers. Perhaps it's just because I'm insane, but I adore her fight, and can't wait to get to her on my other files to experience her again with all of those different playstyles.

    1. placidusax...i still can’t beat him
    2. radagon/elden beast...i just can’t beat that beast.
    3. borealis the freezing fog...another fight unfinished
    4. godskin apostle (divine tower of caelid)
    5. full grown falling star beast
    6. godskin noble
    7. radhan
    8. morgott (outside of leyndell)
    9. alecto black knife leader
    10. astel natural born of the void...the second one in the yelough anix tunnel
    honorable mentions:
malenia...getting to her was the hardest part!
fire giant...thrilling and manageable once you get a rhythm, but finding that rhythm was the tough part.
i’m so close...that damn elden beast is so hard 🤬

I can hardly imagine how anyone on earth can find another boss than Malenia at the first place of the most difficult boss in Elden ring.
She's BY FAR the most difficult boss even designed by Fromsoft. In fact, I'm convinced she's almost impossible to beat with certain builds.
I love this boss. My favorite in Elden ring, in fact, but I've got to admit, her Waterflow dance is utter BS. If she does it from a distance, fine. It can be tricky to dodge everything unscathed but it's doable. If she does it at close range, however, you're screwed unless you're a master who can circle around her and perform a pixel-perfect roll when the first flurry comes out. And this thing does so much damage too. If you've got scratched before or thought it wouldn't be necessary to heal that tiny bit of health you were missing before, well, bad news because just the first flurry does 1500+ damage (which is more than 75% of your health even with 80 vitality).
And things don't even get easier if you summon since you essentially give her a free boost and a wandering HP dispenser to drain from. There's nothing, in any Fromsoft games, that comes even close to that.

If you have good poise you can dodge to avoid most damage even after getting clipped by waterfowl. It’s not really a matter of dodging all of it it’s a matter of surviving.

    • @GenLiu
      @GenLiu 2 года назад +1

@@CatchTheseMechanicalHands That's precisely the issue I have with this move. "If you have good poise" is already a condition that pushes quite a few builds out of the window. Some builds will have reasonably good chances at beating her but for others, it will be nearly impossible.
If I were Fromsoft, I would nerf bleed to make her tougher against it and soften the first flurry of waterflow dance so it can be consistently avoided by all builds (I'm not even asking it to be easy to avoid, just doable for the like of us...mere mortals who don't have inhuman timing and reflexes).
The problem isn't whether the move can be dealt with or not but the gap of reasonable chances between the best and worst build available in the game (and I mean, best and worst against her).
Because let's face it, while Malenia is basically unbeatable for certain builds, she can be erased from existence like a regular mob for whoever builds around River of blood, for example.

@@GenLiu you can use the great jar talisman and some decent armour like the crucible tree knights without a lot of weight commitment, but you’re right in that a lot of build do struggle against her unfairly

i found radagon and elden beast more difficult, and maybe valiant gargoyles too, everything depends on the build. my melee build with bloodhound fang is terrible against the gargoyles but very decent against malenia

    • @GenLiu
      @GenLiu 2 года назад +1

@@vgcv123 I can see that, actually. Malenia is the kind of boss that can become trivial if you have those very specific builds that destroys her (I mean, your right. At the end of the day, your build dictates your experience in Elden ring).
The fact that you struggled against Radagon and Elden beast makes sense too. In fact, I have a friend who had a similar experience and he was using the Bloodhound's fang as well. So, that weapon really seems to suck against Radagon/Elden beast.
By extension, I can see the Gargoyles being tough too. Everything that's resistant/immune to bleed performs poorly against those bosses.
