Any sane person doesn't want a movie that promotes mentally ill people taking after this movie and getting more crazier. This movie looks dark and it looks like it will pull you in. No I don't have problems playing video games and do on the daily if time is available. What I have a problem with is this movie is promoting a persona that will trigger with sum trigger happy individual after seeing it. Not saying it will happen, but I dont rule out something that looks this good and not have an effect on someones life. Such as some mentally ill person. Watchmen was dark, but this looks dark on a decrepit level that would just make you go, jesus christ. This is for sure the darkest portrayal of Joker.
And by the looks I hope it goes all the way with an R rating and violence and dialogue. Because joker is a Dark mischievous character that I feel does not belong in a pg 13 setting.

Unfortunately that's what was said about Logan, these types of movies tend to get snubbed. Endgame will be the biggest and most successful movie of the year without a doubt though, and possibly Joker one of the best! :D

I am..speechless. This looks beyond incredible.
This trailer was so good. It's about character study and hearing Robert De Niro singing in the background was perfectly captured. Definitely the dark gritty storytelling process fits the Joker so well. It's The Killing Joke mixed with Taxi Drive and Kings of Comedy. De Niro's character for sure will play Jerry Lewis' character in some way where Arthur Fleck could kidnap him to making him like his comedy act. Laughter is the medicine the Clown Prince of Crime really needs.
Hauntingly beautiful. Phoenix is perfectly damaged.

Ledger's Joker was great, but Joaquin is portraying the evolution of the Joker. How did Arthur become the Joker we know today? How did he get there? What happened to him?
I think Joaquin is going to show us Arthur's descent into madness. Madness resulting from everyday life tragedies and losses. Tragedy and loss, something all human beings can relate to. Also, the movie portrays the role society often plays in helping to create these maladjusted, discontented psychopaths. We see the fierce bullying and hurtful treatment Arthur receives from other people, this compounded by his own personal tragedies, became a putrid melting pot of dissatisfaction and discontent, inevitably resulting in rage.
This is not just a movie, rather a snapshot of society's challenges today.
Which begs a question, are psychopaths born or made?

This is a man suffering from mental illness in a world that kicks him while hes down which ultimately leads to his descent into madness. The shot of him pulling his cheeks to smile while hes crying is heartbreaking and actually choked me up and I dont choke up.

Honestly looks like it could end up being not only my favorite film of year but one of my favorite of all time. Finally a deep tragic character study of the most notorious fictional villains and my favorite villain that pays tribute to the comics

I'm so happy they aren't trying to make this like the Marvel movies and inject lighthearted happiness and bubblegum into it. I love the Marvel movies but what Warner did to Justice League was awful.

The next four DC films are as different and unique as you can get - Shazam, Joker, Birds of Prey, and Wonder Woman 1984. And that's what I love about them.

Anyways, there's also the chance, timeline wise, that this is just the first joker and leto's the 2nd to show up later on. There's different ways to spin it.
Actually DC is keeping Leto's storyline going for Suicide Squad 2 in 2021. A little funny they will be pitting the actors against eachother. Phoenix will blow Leto out of the water.
@Jorge Molina that can alsp be credited to writing and direction which was also fantastic in TDK where as SS writing is atrocious and directing isn't much better. Leto is a good actor who didnt have much to work with and bad direction.

*This* is exactly what I've been wanting a lot more of when it comes to comics based movies for a long time. Standalone films, not part of an interconnected universe or larger franchise, which are just their own, unique take on a character. Not meant to be definitive, just its own thing.

Looks so much better than the stuff DC has been releasing over the past few years.
Marvel has the cinematic universe, and builds your care for characters through wit and charm. By doing it slowly over multiple movies etc etc
DC should focus on the individual character pieces. They should tackle issues and break characters down. Looking deep into what makes a person tick and work in the world they’ve built.
Not to be the same and have another ‘universe’. Be a different choice, not the worse version of something that’s already brilliant.
Really hope this is the way in which they target films for the future.
Character driven works has always been the thing DC excels at. Look at the new Doom Patrol show, its simply amazing. They managed to make me care deeply about characters I didn't even know before. DC should definitely produce more standalone character focused movies.
DC has always created deep rooted character pieces, some have worked and others haven’t (I’m a fan of all). This in my opinions makes them better than Marvel. DC doesn’t follow a formulaic trope.

Every comic book company follows tropes and clichés, because that’s what comics are. However within the whole body of work, you’ll find gems and uniqueness in areas. You can like the DC movies as it’s your preference, but to say they’re subjectively good would be wrong, as many film critics have panned them with no obligations to the ‘comic book community’ of side picking and all that crap. Which is why Marvel is more successful with audiences and critics, they’re thoroughly thought through and it shows.
That’s why this is good form DC’s part, it’s driving in towards what makes their comics good and not attempting to stuff their comics into a witty formula. It just doesn’t work on a tonal level.

What I like about it is that it reminds me of the movie Logan.I say this in the sense that it doesn’t feel like a comic book movie and it’s so much darker.Also i like that we get to see him slowly become mad instead of him just being crazy sense he was a kid.

I really hope they do more standalone movies like this, that are Elseworld stories. Imagine a live-action Justice Society of America film, or a Kingdom Come film, maybe even a Midnighter & Apollo, or a Superman - Red Son film.
We know the Joker to do terrible things but this trailer makes my heart feel so badly of how he lost his mind :(

I love watching both DC and Marvel I get excited for both. Also I hate how people hate on this because it’s always in comparison to the late heath ledger. Ledger took the character and gave us this maniac and mad joker and immortalized that character. But that is in the past and was for that trilogy. All respect to him for making an amazing joker and I can’t wait for this incarnation of the character! Hype for October is here🔥
Dc in the past has good ideas and poor execution and marvel has borrowed ideas and uses good execution but Dc finally found a way to use good execution
In times where comic book movies couldn't be more generic and mediocre, never pushing the envelope because they're too afraid to step out of their safe formula (formula that works for them so why take risks...) movies like this gives the genre hope, movies like Spiderman Into the SpiderVerse and Logan did the same, I hope Joker joins that club, it looks amazing.

For me, this trailer really showcases the relationship between Arthur and Gotham and how the city distorts Arthur's seeming desire to spread joy by its own cynical reaction against it; the poster really evokes a sense of putting on a show, perhaps his shift in perspective on seeing his traumatic experiences as "comedy" compels him replicate that kind of violence as a way of performing "comedy" and therefore joy sourced from rage. Great review as usual guys.
