Joker quite often steals the show. And he often steals the show in a way like this, where its best to cut him, cause too often he's gonna captivate people away from the story's intended villain. The Clown Prince of Crime is best to be the focus, or not present i think

As great as this deleted scene is, I kinda hope we get Hush or another villain first. Just seems so interesting. Save the Joker for last.
It kinda of would’ve took the spotlight from Riddler, but it would’ve been a great surprise. All the the trailers showed the Riddler in Arkham, could you imagine being in the theatre, at the Batman in Arkham scene about to interrogate the Riddler, but surprise, it’s an established Joker instead?! That would’ve been NUTS. And NO ONE would’ve seen is coming! It would’ve been like Captain America grabbing Mjloner in “Endgame”!

This version of the Joker really does look like he fell into the acid, which I think it a really cool touch! The scarring, the hair falling out, the boils and blisters, and even his iconic smile looks like a chemical burn! I was also amazed by how quiet he was. I think I'm trained now too expect the joker to be flamboyant and loud in his mannerisms, barking out laughter at the top of his lungs, but honestly these more quiet, quick laughs make him seem so much more unhinged! This unexpected drop of The Batman's deleted scene was just a shock in a good way. Barry Keoghan plays it as a deranged psychopath with a Hannibal Lecter twisted personality and definitely gets under Batman's skin with ease in this deleted scene. When you think about it serves as the perfect catalyst to setup the story in The Batman. The whole blurring out the Joker but at the same time kind of giving that nice setup is so perfectly shot in this scene. The look of the Joker is based on I believe Death of a Family/New 52.

Much better then the last two Jokers we got. Which of course it's easy to beat Leto. But I enjoyed this one scene much more then I did anything in the Joker film. Which I always get hate for not liking that Joker. Never mean it as a knock against Phoenix as I'm sure he could be a great Joker. It's just the character of Arthur never once felt like The Joker to me. And I know people argue no shit it's a prequel film but to me even in 5 or 10 yrs I could never imagine Arthur transforming enough to resemble the Joker. As he's already in like his late 40's in that film he's not magically gonna become smarter at that age. As the most Arthur could come up with in terms of smarts was to just shot people. Not to mention how he killed the late night host made zero sense as what the hell production would invite someone with mental health issues and not even bother to search them for a weapon at the door or before bringing them on stage.

I like the Hannibal/Will Graham vibe from the scene. Returing to a previously captured criminal for his perspective on a new case feels ripped right out of Red Dragon and it works. While I may not be the biggest fan of this Joker’s look, the dude really does look like he fell into a vat of toxic skin-melting chemicals. Almost like the images of victims of acid attacks in the Middle East. (Yes, I know that he’s supposed to have a birth defect that makes him smile, but the rest of his body looks like Goldblum’s The Fly, mid transformation as his skin degrades.)
Honestly, I would’ve cast Alexander Scheer as Joker (who essentially was the Joker in “Blood Red Sky”), but Keoghan does a good enough job.

A director with less refined instincts would have left this in, because this is clearly Grade A Joker material. But not only was Matt Reeves good enough to make this scene and realize what was needed to make a good Joker, but he had the tact and respect for his story to not let it overshadow his main antagonist even though this scene probably would have been the most hype moment in the movie and gotten the most social media buzz.

I hope Matt Reeves can treat Joker like Thanos in that he needs to be gently threaded through and teased a bit often before the big showdown. I understand the Joker fatigue, and I think this would be the best way to give the rest of Batman's rogue gallery some breathing room. Just chronicle Batman's efforts to take down various supervillains while constantly winking and hinting there's something big to come with the Joker. This'll also give Reeves enough time to really figure out where he wants to take this character and truly refine his spin on him.
And then, by the time the Joker gets his Infinity War/Endgame moment, he'll potentially be even more glorious than Heath Ledger's portrayal.

I wasnt even aware Keoghan was getting hate. I enjoyed his scene with Dano at the end of the Batman. As a marvel guy, who doesn't know much about DC, I know Heath did an awesome performance, but time passes, reboots happen, maybe cause I'm not as invested to DC? But Druig from Eternals did awesome here
EDIT: idk much about DC, but Joker's chemical spill/burn happens in the comics right? Glad Reeves' did it this way

  • @StevenDavisonYT
    @StevenDavisonYT 2 года назад +45

I loved the scene but I'm glad they cut it, one of the best scenes in the whole film is Riddler and Batman's conversation when Riddler reveals the truth about being an orphan etc and it would have seriously undercut all that to have Joker near the start of the film basically announce all the main points of Riddler's motivations.
It's kind of perfect though bc this scene being deleted means it isn't canon, so Matt can listen to honest feedback and if he wants to change certain things about the character without it impacting anything.
For example this Joker looks more like he fell in a vat of acid than any Joker we've ever seen, yet Matt Reeves said this one didn't and just grew up with a muscle disease so he looks like that. I trust Matt Reeves but that's the one thing I hope they change, we don't even need to see it but just have it confirmed that he fell in a vat of acid to look that way etc
EDIT: Maybe a backstory point of this Joker could be that him having this muscle disease and maybe being a psycho as a kid caused somebody to cover him in acid and that caused all the injuries or something(?)

Brilliant scene. I see why it was deleted. He clearly tells you the whole motive of the Riddler. So as someone that seen the Theatrical Version twice, I would appreciate the Directors Cut to have this included to have a more complete understanding of the "Intro" of the Joker in Arkham with the Riddler. I think Reeves should have the Joker be a subtle (but major) villain throughout the entire series... A manipulator of other "Main villains" for the next additions. It would serve almost identical to the nature of how much of a master mind the JOKER really was.

One of the greatest deleted scene of all for the producers. It sets up sequels if they wanted it, they tested their interpretation of another Joker (pass with flying colors), makes the audience speculate enough to google search the Joker actor and create theories, and having it as a deleted scene didn't conflict the spotlight for the Riddler.

This is a very very good scene. Having watched it, I can see why it was cut. The movie didn't "need" this scene, and as a director and editor, if it's not "needed" it shouldn't be in it. The movie is already nearly 3 hours long, so 5 more minutes wouldn't have made a difference in that regard, but Batman didn't need this interaction to find and stop The Riddler. I actually like the end tease better as it lets us know what could be as opposed to this which could make us think, what did we miss in Year One? Bookending the movie with the "Joker Gang" at the start and The Joker at the end is perfect.
