Just a quick side note…if you have your heart set on Baccarat, just spring for Baccarat. A dupe probably won’t satisfy you. I know you said this, but I’m reiterating based on my own experience. I’ve wasted a lot of money on perfume….🤪 I should’ve just gotten what I wanted to begin with

I’m definitely not into dupes for eyeshadow palettes or fragrance, but for powders, brow products etc-absolutely! I have been finding some really high end fragrances at Marshall’s and TJX lately. Skylar changed their packaging recently and I picked up the vanilla sky for $19. They also had the scent sampler on a recent trip for $15.

    • @brendadawson4912

Heather, yes! I recently purchased 2 Mancera fragrances at TJ MAXX. They’ve had some really nice fragrance deals lately at both TJ & Marshall’s. I’m just getting familiar with niche brands and it’s been kind of fun learning about fragrances. I’ve ALWAYS worn perfume. I’m a girl who likes her scents. My signature scent for a long time was Red Door. I was get stopped everywhere, men & women alike wanting to know what I was wearing. My kids snd hubby would always know what to get me as a gift for special occasions, etc. lol. But several years ago, the company changed the formulation of Red Door and it never smelled the same or had any lasting effect from that point on. It just was NOT the same ever again. Honestly, I was kind of heartbroken.. It was a fragrance that just worked so well with my body chemistry, and I would get stopped in public constantly by men and women alike asking what fragrance I was wearing. The men wanted to buy it gir their wives, the women wanted to buy it for themselves. I still don’t know why the company changed changed it. I was never able to find out. I was so disappointed. Anyway, it’s forced me (years later) to try to expand my knowledge of fragrances and it’s only been very recently that I’ve started to dabble into the niche fragrances. I’m glad I was able to find a couple good deals a few days ago. I hear everyone talk about the Bacarat 540. I have not smelled it as of yet, but I imagine it must be divine. I have smelled some of the Skylar brand and they are nice too. I’m glad you were able to find something you enjoy at a good price 😊

This is such weird timing I was JUST looking at the dossier dupe for Bal d'afrique! I am almost done with my sample and I am trying to avoid paying for the Byredo. Your review really helped confirm what I knew deep down..if I want that delicious scent in my life I really should just get the real deal.
Side note- I know you love fig.. You might love "Smoky Fig" EDT by West Third Brand. They are an affordable brand, not nearly as fancy as the popular houses. I adore their Tobacco 1812 scent almost as much as I love "by the fireplace." (Not meant to be dupes but same cozy vibe)

Personally I was so against dupe house but then I started being more conscious about what I buy. I don’t personally buy product that have been tested on animal anymore bonus point if it’s vegan as well. Most dupe house are vegan and cruelty free so I prefer the dupe over the original for the most part.I will buy the expensive original over the dupe if it’s cruelty free tho ( for exemple le labo is hella expensive but cruelty free I’m gonna buy the original). Dupes are nice because you can find your favorite smell in a cruelty free version. Eden perfume have very good dupe.

I completely agree that the Ambery Saffron is a fantastic dupe. It’s one of my favorite scents now. I’ve bought three bottles of it. It’s definitely one I have to have in my collection.
I’m also completely in love with Floral Marshmallow. I love Kilian’s Love Don’t be Shy but it’s expensive and I go through it quicky. Floral Marshmallow is almost identical to Kilian’s LDBS. It may be a little sweeter. Another great dupe is Woody Chestnut, which is a dupe for Replica’s By the Fireplace. Obviously, if I watched the entire video before commenting I would see you are very aware. Lol. Anyways, I agree it’s not a perfect dupe, I feel it’s not as smoky. I do like it and it layers really well with other fragrances but I do prefer the original. I’ve tried others but those are my favorites.
I think we have very similar taste in fragrances.

I have bought Madame Rose (PDM Delina)
    Orphic (BR 540 extrait)
    Sweet Addict (LDBS by Killian)
....I am thoroughly impressed by the strength and longevity of all 3. Madame Rose has a stronger incense note than the original but the other 2 are👏🏻 spot👏🏻on👏🏻

Alexandria Fragrances is another dupe house that I really enjoy, and they do a seven 5ml sample pack for $50. I find something like that is a good value if you're interested in niche houses but have no way to smell them at a counter or don't want to buy a tiny sample that doesn't have a sprayer. My experience with Alexandria is that letting them sit for a while does make them smell much better, initially they smell really alcohol-y.

I also got the By the Fireplace dupe, which is my fave perfume, and didn’t think they smelled alike at all. It’s not bad but definitely not the same and I commented that on another perfume vid and there were a ton of people that said they though it smelled exactly the same 🤷🏻‍♀️ oh I also got the Woody Saffron and I liked it a lot but I don’t think to the point I’d get the original 540 another kinda don’t get the hype kind of moment and I don’t understand because these are all notes that I absolutely love!!
I actually ordered some dupes off of Etsy and they come tomorrow (Valentine’s Day) they had great reviews so I can’t wait to see!!
Oh and they stopped the little sample and I think now you just send the whole bottle back.
I have a full Mojave Ghost and I swear I smell almost nothing even if I spray it all over and on my clothes!!!! I was shocked and thought what is the hype about!?
Oooooo I did get a sample of Tom Fords ombré leather and 🤤🤤🤤
Lauren do our bodies change over the years for holding scents? I used to wear perfume a ton and whatever I wore would last all day and night and I’m just getting back into fragrances and have bought so many and nine seem to last very long at all unless I’m going nose blind??? I did hear years ago that after your nose smells something for 60 seconds straight it tends to not smell it anymore but idk if that’s true.

Olfactory fatigue or Hyposmia is when the ability to detect odor is reduced. Just smell something like coffee beans to reset. Some factors like aging, sinus, smoking, dental issues etc affect ur sense of smell. Also it can be the purfume type: Eau de parfum (EDP) is the one that lasts the longest at 8 plus hours and its usually the most pungent type with a 10-20% fragrance strength. Eau de toilette (EDT) lasts less in time with a fragrance strength of 5-15%, then u get Eau de cologne with a 2-4% fragrance strength and the final type is Eau fraiche with 1-3% fragrance strength that would last approx 2 hrs. General rule: The more concentration of fragrance oil in the scent the longer it lasts.

It’s difficult for us passionate cruelty free shoppers because I might like the smell, but 99% of popular brands test on animals or pay third party companies to test on animals. I have the option of buying the product and compromising my morals and supporting the industry, of spending a long time researching for a potential dupe, if there even is one. I will never never condone or support testing cosmetics on animals, so of course that leaves most popular brands off limits for me. It also doesn’t help most brands use certain chemicals that give me a massive headache/swollen sinuses.

Lauren! I bought ambery saffron to figure out what the baccarat rouge bandwagon was about-and I’m glad I paid less, cause I barely smell it! I don’t think I can smell ambroxan. I’m so sad. 😭
Edit: I love JM wood sage and sea salt! I tried the woody sage, and it definitely is more grapefruit, sweeter, and more “screechy.” It lasts better than the original JM though. JM longevity is so bad unless you get the colognes. I love them both, and sometimes layer then together.

I've been wanting you to review Dossier! I am vegan and the large majority of popular and luxury perfumes are not cruelty-free and vegan so I am super interested in Dossier for that reason. For my fellow Canadian babes I recently contacted the company to find out if they have any plans to start shipping to Canada and they said it is indeed actively on their radar! Fingers crossed we will get access by the end of 2022!
P.S. Lauren I am so curious for you to try some Demeter fragrances. They are so kooky and strange (and iconic and cheap) I would love to hear your thoughts!

Take your time and find a fragrance you love, buy that fragrance and wear it until it’s finished before buying the next one. As someone who has a massive collection that I started in my 20s, I regret spending so much money on so many fragrances. I probably have perfume to last me until I’m 120 and goodness knows what they’ll smell like by then 😂

I consider Perfumery an art, and that's why I personally don't buy dupes. I don't judge people that do, frangrances are expensive. I usually will try to get a sample of the original fragrance and wear it, then I have to save $$$ to get it, saves me from getting things that don't work for me or getting too many fragrances.

I wish dossier would do a dupe of g*psy water! I absolutely love it but don’t like that they haven’t changed the name and also don’t want to have to pay that price tag. I know Tocca Colette is often touted as a dupe, which I do agree with to a certain extent- that’s actually been my signature fragrance for a couple of years now! But I’d love to have more options for similar GW dupes.

What I find interesting is some talk about dupes “stealing “ or something, yet, like you said- there is always going to be there customer base. Established brands are HUGE like LV , Estée Lauder, Coty, etc and some people may like the scent profile, but will NEVER be able to, or want , to pay luxury prices. If they buy a dupe or cheaper product, it’s same as buying drugstore or mid to high end products, as that is likely where they always buy products. I think there is a point made however; if a brand is outright stealing design and artwork, or passing it off as their own idea. Which happens a lot and I never see outrage. I will buy indie perfumes ( Valerie’s Uncommon Scents is one I bought from for YEARS, and her dupes are often better than the inspiration and she has her own logos, bottles etc and makes it clear where the inspiration came from.) I also get smaller sizes of name brand perfumes to test out to see if I’ll have reactions, staying power, etc but also will try a dupe to see if what notes smell good on me if I’ve not tried a perfume with that note before. I’ve not found Louie Marie’s L’Tang Noir to be dupable for me, as that scent is PERFECT for me and all my “checkmarks” and full size is $60 but if it was $300 I’d still buy it.

I have Orientica Amber Rouge which Lauren recommended to me recently as a really good dupe for Barracarat! It's £100ish for 80ml. It smells very very similar except for a slight peppermint note.
The annoying thing is that both the original B540 and Orientica don't at all last on me so I've purchased an Iso E Super perfume to increase its longevity!

  • @mandyads
    @mandyads Год назад

For me, I am definitely the type who will absolutely purchase the original of a fragrance I adore. I’ve started looking for dupes in fragrances that I like the experience of, but don’t love. For example, Baccarat is a fragrance that I liked and probably would have purchased at a designer cost. I actually prefer fragrances with that essence, but much sweeter (Burberry Her EDP for example). I would appreciate it as an easy grab and go fragrance but it doesn’t speak to me andddd it’s ridiculous for that price. A dupe is the perfect for fragrances you either just “like enough” to want them in your collection or want to be an easy grab you just run through guilt free. Another way I’ve started using dupes is when I buy a super expensive fragrance but then end up not liking it as much as I thought. For example, I purchased Xerjoff Italica and wanted to love it soooo badly, but something turns off on my skin and it’s not as sweet as I thought. Before I declutter it, I want to shop around for some dupes and compare the then to see if I can find a dupe that has what the original is missing. I’m literally talking to myself for no reason right now, lol… But a final way I think I might consider dupes is to either layer with originals that have poor longevity or replace them entirely for that reason. For example, I would 100% have purchased Lost Cherry at its price if it lasted on my skin, but it doesn’t. A dupe with a similar smell (though less special) that lasts all day on my skin is worth the trade off.

As someone who does NOT like By the Fireplace nor its longevity, the Dossier one is a bit intriguing. I don't like the smokiness of Replica AT ALL and detested it on my skin. lol Even tried washing it off and it WOULD NOT come off. But if you like the scent, that's probably perfect! Still, I do think it could use more sweetness.

If anyone enjoys BR540, you should also try Electimuss Trajan. I don’t love the medicinal notes in BR540 and Trajan takes that away and it’s only $210 for 100ml bottle…so less expensive too.

The alt one is more kinda like a burnt Cotten candy scent & the Zara is the same but it’s more on the fresh scent & less of that burnt Cotten candy scent/vibe. To me it’s very burnt Cotten candy vibes but it changes, some days it’s sweet other days it’s like not good imo. I’ve found it smells better if the skin is wet idk I’m trying to get into this scent still it’s so odd, but everyone loves this when I wear any of them tbh

I'm someone who'd prefer to buy the dupes than the originals, IF they were really close and smelt high quality.
I could, and have in the past, saved up and gotten the original of a scent. Bit if I get one good/expensive one then I want to make sure I finish it, so that will then be the only one I get till I finish the bottle.
I do prefer though to have a selection of perfumes, so I cannout on whatever suits my mood of the day. Wuth Dossier I can fo thst, have a nice selevtion for the same price I could otherwise have spent on the one origial bottle.

this isn't really a dupe in the sense that its a less costly alternative. but since The Body Shop's Oceanus is discontinued here and i have really nostalgic memories of wearing that all through high school i was looking for something similar. happy to report that Giorgio Armani's Sky Di Gioia is a spot on dupe for that. Tiffany & Co's EDP is also pretty similar but its a bit more spicy than The Body Shop's Oceanus or Giorgio Armani's Ocean Di Gioia

I tried a few dupe houses when I was first getting into fragrances and each one I had to return because there was something in them that was giving me an allergic reaction. I dont mind dupes as long as I can try them in person before purchasing. I have a dupe for BR540 that I think is amazing and I found it at an outlet mall and knew it worked for me. I think if I ever get through the bottle (4.2 oz) I might go ahead and get that actual BR540.
