Best tip I ever got was to spend less time on the driving range and more time on and around the practise green.
Note to self: stop correcting people’s grammar and spelling on YT and practice golf more
@@angrygilmore1573 I love this.
driving range ruins golfers
@@John_Wood_ not true at all. It depends merely on what you do at the driving range. If you’re swinging as hard as you can or aimlessly just hitting shots of course it’s not gonna help. I mean if you are deliberate practicing with the intention of getting better with full focus you will improve
@@Cammers5 yes, driving range is the best practice, spend time on the range, working on the right things, then you go the course with confidence.
Real talk, keep my back facing the target more (allowing that separation of lower and upper body) brought some distance back for me. Great tip!
Love these pod casts now, some great insight to top level catching of Dan 👍 new studio looks awesome 👏
I would rather know how to hit it straight. If I learn to hit it further it just means I have to go further into the trees to find it 🤣🤣🤣
Really enjoying the pod lads! Keep up the great work 👍
So much awesome info from this episode. Been clicking so fast on these clips
I started feeling that last bit about separating the sections of the torso, and it is a freaking game changer. Not very complicated to feel if you can hit relatively well. Really accentuates the coil effect!
Incredible insight. This is genius level thinking and analysis to look at the body performing better for golf. 😍👏🏻
Thanks guys, listening to you reminds me to never try and coach my mates when I'm playing my one round a week! 👍
That was great, nice highlight from the podcast broken down well...soooooo off to the garden to practice. Might need to listen to it once or 20 times more😁 least its sunny today
So cool that pure biomechanics is noted as point for performance and thus not certain stands from the old school that I hear about so often. Very cool. 🤘🏻😎🤘🏻
Shaun Clement teaches to hit a drive 150 yards with a full swing. Just to see how smooth and slow it needs to be, then add 10 percent speed. It messes with your head but it works.
Love the idea of it , now I am going out into the yard and try it. Wish me luck.
Great knowledge. Love the hoodie
I've been doing the counter move recently and it really helps with rhythm.
This is the kind of detail I love.
I always love when you guys have Dan Whittaker on the show. His insights into the details of the golf swing are clearly at the next level and it is always an education.
I'm goint to put these tips to the test and see how big of a slice I get
Get all my tips from you! Thank you
Love the "protein shakes" wink wink remark 💉😂
The upper to lower body separation is very similar technique in generating torque and speed as you uncoil.
Reducing spin loft. I was hitting 7 iron 150 after lesson increased to 185 yards. 35 degree 7 iron my dynamic loft at impact was 10 degrees more than some pro’s . 1 degree equates to 2-3 yards. Pro had trackman .
In baseball, the counter move is called a load. Its what you see when hitters do a leg kick or a toe tab. makes a lot of sense the way they explain it here. I was avoiding doing that after I started playing golf.
it's a bit different, the load is more moving weight to the back leg before you move it forward. He's talking about moving it forward then back then forward, which I'm not convinced happens in a lot of other sports aside from juking a defender
I have found the best way to hit it farther down the fairway, Is to play off the forward tees.
I agree with what he’s saying except the super fast backswing that’s just a good way to get into an inconsistent poor positions at top of your swing. What will create that initial speed is the transition you make at the top starting down. Width of arc increases club head speed take away long and wide and reaching out long and wide through the impact zone. I still use dynamic gold x-100 shafts in my woods and 7.75 loft on driver and still get 300 on misses.
3.42 Aesthetically pleasing, Jesus it’s a golf swing not a cat walk I hate people who are more interested in what there swing looks like than what actually does the job in hand, hit that little ball down the strip of grass, golf isn’t half talked up to sound super difficult it’s not play to your ability and enjoy it, what these boys are discussing is what only the top 5% in the world can do not us normal people
Thank you! Couldnt have said it better! I am using a single plane swing at the moment, even my best friend says it doesnt look right and it may be true, but it serves me better and I am the one using it so...who cares.
Just snapped my left ankle trying this 😂
Sorry for the late response. Just watched the great video. When you state your stance should be wider than shoulder width is than measured from the inside of your heels or outside of your heels? How much wider?
A lot of golf teachers are saying that a narrow stands with the stance no wider than underneath the hip bones is better they say you can turn easier faster and with a lot less tension.
Interesting. I feel like I would lose balance turning faster with a narrow stance though.
I think power from the larger muscles is the premium, not just spinning your hips as fast as possible. If you think about any powerful athletic move you are going to have wider than shoulder width stance, vertical jump, power clean, squats, etc. I think, if a narrow stance generated more power, then long drive champions would already be doing that.
subscribed to both
My biggest problem seems to be understanding the downswing and shallowing. I've recorded myself many times and the funniest thing is still seeing the sharp down angle of my swing even though I feel like im swinging it like a baseball bat. There is some strange disconnect between what im doing which still makes me pull the ball. I've seen major improvements overall just watching a million different videos with tips and drills but the "general" swing still looks the same, just a bit cleaner. Remember folks, feels is definitely not reals in this game. That being said, im still struggling with understanding how to gain more power through the lower body without messing up the overall swing with just faster arm movements. Comparing my clean 8 iron shots going 140yards with very nice height and quality and then my 5 iron shots going substantially shorter (relatively) at like 165 yards... but the distance increase is so low and its so much harder to hit long irons. It makes no sense to me how better players can hit 5 irons like 200 yards.
Great podcast as ever. Admittedly I don't know why I listen as I don't like golf, but a top job nonetheless.
Hank Aaron the home run king. His right foot was almost off the ground at contact.
Fantastic content! I do feel for Dan having to hold up his mic though ;P
Basically just do what Rory does. The guy is 5'9 and hits it like 340.
He hit one 377 at the Wells Fargo Championship on Sunday. Still trying to wrap my head around that one.
@@ratstrat1984 his technique is incredible
@@leroyrodgers6089 Yeah, he's fun to watch.
Hit up on the ball to get higher launch and lower spin
These tips sound like a perfect way for amateur golfers to spray the ball even more.
Itll be like a warzone friendly fire from all directions
@@Simeon-the-Magnificent lol, I’m afraid so.
I’ve heard of a fast backswing being important to increase the whiplash effect onto the downswing BUT….look at Colin Morikawa and a couple of other leading pros who are long hitters but with slow takeaways…..🤷♂️
I think one of the risks you take when pushing into the ground with your left foot, is that is is hard to fight the torso going up which also bring the club up and thins the ball. If you keep your torso from elevating it works. IMHO.
Ya, a good golf swing shouldn’t be a slave to freaking timing. I also wonder if people r inviting injury.
What are the headphones for?
Reputedly, a pupil asked Harry Weetman how they could hit it further. Hit it harder, was Harry's reply!😂
Dan is so clear, even for French people.
What about the Power jump.?! Those who started in their junior years know. There are several on tour that have it mastered.
How do I hit it farther?
How to hit it further: Swing faster and make contact in the center of the club face.
Lol should be that simple
Really like Guy
The equipment is such that anyone with good technique and fit should be able to drive 260-300 yards. This leaves a mid iron in on a long par 4. If u got mad distance, good for u. However, I am stunned by how often pros r severely missing the fairway these days. Additionally, look at the injuries we r seeing to top players like brooks koepka. Better to concentrate on golf game. Also, I can’t help but be skeptical of these coaches, coaching can b a dark industry.
So basically, swing exactly like Jack Nicklaus - especially when he was early in his 20s and destroying everyone in distance. There are 2 video comparisons I've seen, one is a young Nicklaus and Tiger and also a young Nicklaus and the now Bryson. It is a face-on view and you start with Tiger - and it's just a savage amount of power thrown at the ball. You then see Nicklaus - and it's even more savage than Tiger - your brain goes - wow. Then Bryson is basically Nicklaus but Bryson has a bigger upper body. Their swings are almost identical
Biggest change I made
Shorter driver length
Found the centre more
Able to swing at higher speeds confidently
I’m not an elite golfer and I know shaft length increasing clubhead speed
At my level, it’s worked great for me
Marcus Bell Zen Golf teaches this, check him out.
Hi Rick
The left heel lifting slightly will move your right butt cheek towards the target, ergo more torque.
The question about how important this distance is, I would have answered totally differently. I wouldn’t have stressed how important it is, I would have said it’s more of a threshold issue. You need to be in the neighborhood of 300+ off the tee. If you can do that you are fine. Hitting 350+ isn’t necessary or even that big of a deal, otherwise Bryson would win every week and he’s fallen off the globe. Still all about precision and short game
Speed =distance.
Dan whittaker is an elite dribbler
No idea what he was talking about but yea
Not lifting the lead heel looks horrendous in my opinion.
I was hitting over 300 at age 13 and distance is a huge advantage. But if you don’t keep it in play it doesn’t matter or you better have an amazing short game with feel.
Yeah I'm sure you hit it 300 at 13. That's some 🧢
No chance
Biomechanics 101
And keep up the great work guys!!
🤘🏻😎🤘🏻
god video , couldn't afford a 3rd mic stand ? lol
Fully expected Dan to be about 60 years old
I've got it, copy the guy on the ice
Sorry Rick, word is FARTHER not FURTHER. (he says with love) 😉
"Protein Shakes"
If you want to hit it further go to the gym and learn to use the ground force your legs produce, that's the easiest fix, Dan might be a great coach but his clubhead speed with driver is 95mph, not exactly the person to explain how to hit the ball further, when I first picked up a club I could get ball speed in the 170s with a 20 euro slazenger driver, distance comes naturally when you're strong
I'm to old for this shit. Love it but. The old dog just can't keep up with it anymore. Again great content.
Thus is the secret, never old, learn when ur young to hit it far. It's waste of time of effort after yiu have played for years.
Who can’t play golf. The people talking about things they have knowledge about.
No shortcuts here guys. Go to the gym, get a trainer and a coach. And PRACTICE
Stop...Stop...Why would anyone that plays for fun/pastime on a 6,000 yard course need to hit over 240yds. The top Pro's play on 7,000+ yd course with crazy par 4 holes over 450 yds. Par 3's at 200+
Rick said it himself that he struggles off the back tees on championship courses and he averages 280 yds. Accuracy is the requirement.
It bumps up the views?
I mean you look at bay hill, when Bryson hit it straight over the lake and Westwood went around the “normal” way, and they both birdied🤔 hmmm
This is great advice, thanks.
But please Rick ditch that producer you have he’s soo 🤬 annoying!!
Not sure why we are asking a golf coach that question! The very best person to answer that is a long-driving competition coach, who focuses entirely on that topic.
Great tips for those better players. Surely for most amateurs, getting a better clubpath and face control to stop them losing so much distance with the slice is far better...no need for protein shakes and an easier way to gain 20-40yards
Have kids. Dad strength from all the extra lifting has given me 30 yards on my drive.
The downside is you don't have any time to play golf!
@@mgibuk true. I had a kids enforced 15 year golf gap 😂😂
Why does this look like a 20 year old tik toker with an old man face filter on...
