That "rubber striking the killswitch" incident at 20:07 would warrant a full page feature in a motorsport magazine if it were to happen in the early 2000s. I mean, how is it even possible nobody picked it up? It's just soo bizarre
This video also shows me Japanese commentators in motorsports are seemingly like Brazilian commentators in football. You don't know what they're saying but you can really feel the hype and passion.
You mean 26:15 seconds? If so, a marshal was distracted by a fire in a Murcielago on the track, jumped into the pit lane, made contact with the NSX rear wing, and took it out. When another marshal delivered the wing to the team, he was hit by a team staff member, and the team finished in second place, but without points.
To this day, I still don't know why Sugo has never appeared in a GT game. I would say weird licensing problems, but the Toyota 7 appears in Gran Turismo, so... Licensing is weird.
The only game I've played SUGO in is Project Cars 2. I know people dislike the physics in that, but it had some of the best cars and tracks in any racing game
I love this channel so much. I always have a smile on my face hearing Rofl's passion. I rarely find channels where almost all videos are such an immersive experience Edit: typo
Sugo used to host a round of World Superbike, and has also seen its share of mayhem and upsets while hosting motorcycles. It is an underrated gem of a track.
YEEEESSSS!!!! I WAITED SO LONG FOR YOU TO MAKE A VIDEO ON THIS TRACK! There's a japanese guy who made videos of the best JGTC moments of this track throughout the years and it's awesome. That was how i learned about the 1997 title decider, the chaotic 2002 race, the 2003 finale, the 2007 race, the 2010 finale, the 2013 race, the 2015 pit road incident, etc. It is easily my favourite track on the Super GT calendar. Btw, love your stuff. Have always loved your stuff since your series critiquing Gran Turismo 7 and ever since you started to cover JGTC/Super GT stuff, you are now one of the RUclipsrs i can't help but feel excited once you post something new. If i had to suggest something, please make a video on the 2 last JGTC races. They were all star races that happened in the USA and i think it would be fun to mention. Also, small nitpick, please record GT4 in native 16:9. I have noticed that your footage in GT4 looks wide and stretched compared to GT3 even lol.
Part of me wishes the pits were more interactive in GT7 because you could absolutely have a situation like what occurred at 29:00 and it would be amazing.
I really like Sugo, it's a great little track, and it's a race I always look forward to on the Super Formula calendar. It was a shame this year's event was heavily disrupted by the weather. The stories on here about its hi-jinks with the SuperGT field are great as well, it's tricky to pick a favourite. Probably the traffic jam in the pit lane in 2015 or the tyre ending up on top of the tyre barrier Canberra 2001 style.
0:50 RAHHHHHHHHHH SUPERCARS MENTIONED WHAT THE FUCK IS A MILE edit: 17:25 RAHHHHHHHHHH SUPERCARS MENTIONED YET AGAIN WHAT THE FUCK IS A BAD COMMENTATOR
Awesome video! Maybe an idea for a future documentary: how good was Keiichi Tsuchiya really as a racer? There's plenty of content about his drifting, but not much about his professional racing career. I heard a story that he started drifting because he's so good at racing and got bored, but I doubt that's true.
Love your love for the Japanese racing scene. I've been following all series from Japanese F3 upwards for decades now and never thought I would see some fellow European talking about JGTC and SUGO on RUclips :D Thanks mate, keep it up!
Sugo is an amazing circuit. Loved racing it on PCARS2 in cars ranging from FWD Touring Cars to an IndyCar. Remember reading Takuma Sato recommending Sugo for real life IndyCar.
Another great video! You really nailed some of the things I love about Super GT. Whenever I hear people talking about F1 being a bit boring, I’m thankful there are other racing series’ out there that are more entertaining.
fun fact, Ohta Kakunoshin did a 1.26.7 at Fuji earlier this year and last weekend, the Caddy did a 1.28.9. I honestly don't know how they drive on Sugo and Autopolis... I mean they also drive Super Formula there so...
Don't forget that the WEC hypercars are made for Le Mans first which means downforce isn't as important, and their max downforce is kept relatively low to reduce costs. They probably lose multiple seconds compared to GT500 cars in the last sector at Fuji. Not to mention that they all run on Michelin tyres, so there is no competition pushing for better tyres there while GT500 has Bridgestone, Dunlop and Yokohama trying to make the better compound.
Would've never expected a video like this for Sugo track. Finally gave a chance for Japanese racing by starting to follow SF actively from 2021 onwards and Sugo definitely has been an interesting track to learn. Old school little runoff, high speed track (except first sector) with that brilliant final corner. Sadly haven't produced the most drama in SF except this year with the chaos caused by the downpour but I know this is the site of closest SF finish (0.041s Duval vs Lotterer). Haven't really watched SGT but after this video I'll definitely give this years SGT Sugo race a watch.
25:19 If I can remember, this is the first time Tsuchiya Keiichi mentioned for an extended period of time in Roflwaffle's videos, and it was so hilarious because of his amateur mistake. Even our beloved Drift King could not escape from the Demons of Sugo😂.
Japan tracks have a different vibe because some of them are just in the middle of nowhere or surrounded by trees and hills. Autopolis is another example
Since driving in it on PCars 2, i've always really liked this track. As usual, nice work ! I really like those retrospectives on motorsport. Also Tekken music is a nice addition.
17:50 bro actually made a perfect shot and finished the race at the end. Also, can't think 28:44 without thinking about that one time British GT had something similar, forgot which race it was but a _lot_ happened during pit stop that the cars stack and collisions during/after pitting were uncommon during this specific time.
1. I know sugo from super formula and it still baffles me why this track is not in many racing games (Project CARS 2 is the one I remember). Gran turismo has had all super formula tracks but not this one. 2. Man do I love Japanese commentary. It is so passionate the somehow the flow of the language is quite matching with the action. 3. Japanese sports camera work has some something sitcom like. It's very officeesque especially in motorsports
Is the music in the introduction (at least at the end) a music from Test Drive Le Mans 24H ? I'm sure at 99% it gave me flashback of me playing this game with my father on the Sega Dreamcast it was so much fun especially the endurance races !
It's a track purposefully built for testing road-going motorbikes (Yamaha admit that it's unfit for testing for racing programmes other than supermoto) so... of course the car racing will be brilliant! Btw, bike racing there is, well, alright, as the bike layout has a ridiculously sharp chicane before the final corner which strongly spoils the fun (though without it, each race would be a happy buisiness opportunity for doctors and undertakers)
After your earlier videos about the Super GT I always wanted to check this series out but it slipped my mind plus I was cutting back on my racing watching time, after all there is only so much free time. But I will definitely watch the up coming race.
Best Video I watched at RUclips in a long time. A topic I am interested in, I learnt something that I didn´t knew before (except that Super GT is great) und well narrated. Thank you very much. I wish more Series would bei presented and done like Super GT or at least that it would get some more attention here.
I've heard the ratchet and clank sound track in a few of your vids and see your icon, so I had to take a look and see if you posted anything about that series.. seems like you're pretty locked in on motorsports though... I really appreciate hearing thst OST popping up elsewhere though.
As I becoming increasingly more enthralled in the world of super GT (thanks almost exclusively to your content) I become more and more frustrated that they don’t have a larger following here in North America. I have no real way of purchasing merch unless it’s from a secondhand site like eBay where the charge double the list price. Frustrating
That’s because it’s only really relevant within Japan. The series doesn’t have a lot of international appeal, wether it’s from manufacturers, teams or drivers.
The first memory I have of sugo was a couple years ago in a GTWC Asia race, where either the leader ran out of fuel coming to the line or he let off the gas because he thought the gap was big enough to the car behind for him to secure the win. But obviously he didn't. Racing there never disappoints and It is now one of my favorite tracks lol Found it: ruclips.net/video/KbYVA2EGA84/видео.htmlsi=5PGDBqAqIfnjagwS
I thought I'm the only madlad that think that Yakuza soundtrack is good for racing. Still running laps in GT PSP (yeah, I'm a strange guy, sue me) with Yakuza OSTs as my custom music
If I remember right, there was also a race there where the Calsonic GT-R was essentially sentenced to life without parole in terms of penalties. I'm not sure if it was 2015 or 2018 or some other year, but what happened there?
Consumed too much WW2 content and read your nickname as Luftwaffe
Same
Warthunder/ Wikipedia Gets to you.
Spat out my drink reading this comment
At least it's not CoD related, I thought MrRofflewaffles was suddenly into motorsports
Don't feel bad, we've all been there
That "rubber striking the killswitch" incident at 20:07 would warrant a full page feature in a motorsport magazine if it were to happen in the early 2000s. I mean, how is it even possible nobody picked it up? It's just soo bizarre
Sugo just looks like your average GT Lobby lmao. Loved the video!
Or more like RIDE 5 lobby.😅
I would loose it if this track ever made its way into GT. The fact that every Super GT track have not been present in the series is a damn shame.
doesnt gt world race here in the asia series now
*lose
Sugo is Japan's Brands Hatch. And much like the Kent circuit, it's a hoot to both watch and drive on, be it IRL or in sim.
Or more like combination of Brands Hatch + Donington + Autumn Ring.
This video also shows me Japanese commentators in motorsports are seemingly like Brazilian commentators in football. You don't know what they're saying but you can really feel the hype and passion.
Eu sem entender porra nenhuma 🙂
This just proves my point that Sugo needs to be in more racing games.
How did the dude just TAKE THE WING OFFF???!!
automatic DRS🔥
With one hell of a bruise the next day
with difficulty
You mean 26:15 seconds?

the most underrated track in Japan glad you shed light on it
also the Sugo round for Super GT is this weekend, what timing
TBH when the tekken kicked in I was half convinced you were gonna tell me one of the cars managed to wavedash
you play celeste don't you
@@petervarga4093personally, I play poorly
12:25 that purply blue NSX looks AMAZING
Super GT cars never fail on looks: they are bloody amazing looks wise but…
Behind inside of the looks they are full blown prototypes
To this day, I still don't know why Sugo has never appeared in a GT game. I would say weird licensing problems, but the Toyota 7 appears in Gran Turismo, so... Licensing is weird.
The only game I've played SUGO in is Project Cars 2. I know people dislike the physics in that, but it had some of the best cars and tracks in any racing game
Sugo was also in Codemaster's TOCA World Touring Cars as well
Sugo has appeared in Milestone's WorldSBK titles, as well as their RIDE titles.
this is actually a really good history lesson on this track, thank you rofl!
I love this channel so much. I always have a smile on my face hearing Rofl's passion. I rarely find channels where almost all videos are such an immersive experience
Edit: typo
1:28 Bro, pausing in this frame is 🔥. Just look at the beauties up front.
Awesome as always. SuperGT is one of the rare racing series where I can't think of a single bad race I've watched.
Incredible video! Narrow circuit + Super GT + RAIN makes this track incredible!
And 40 odd cars on track at the same time makes getting through the traffic can be a right pain for the GT500 cars
Sugo used to host a round of World Superbike, and has also seen its share of mayhem and upsets while hosting motorcycles. It is an underrated gem of a track.

That's one of my favorites tracks, I just love to race there on RIDE games, It's a shame she's not very well known.
Ofc de la rosa is everywhere holy heck
Part of me wishes the pits were more interactive in GT7 because you could absolutely have a situation like what occurred at 29:00 and it would be amazing.
Great to see one of racing's underrated gems getting some appreciation, long live Sugo!
You and The Squidd are my two main sources of automotive infodumping, so thanks for another video!
I really like Sugo, it's a great little track, and it's a race I always look forward to on the Super Formula calendar. It was a shame this year's event was heavily disrupted by the weather. Not just Sugo but also every track in Japan that has been used in Super GT has offered incredibly close and sometimes chaotic racing
I remember watching the Sugo traffic jam live. Absolutely incredible scenes. Definitely underrated as a circuit.

Alright, i hear you with Dudly's 3rd Strike theme. I heard one of Yoshimitsu's theme in another video too.

Roflwaffle seriously should talk about D1GP
Most underrated track I have never even heard of

I am now convinced that with all the epic victories, controversies, and the "demons" in the track...
SUGO is Japan's Talladega. Unequivocally.
I was not expecting to hear 3rd Strike music on this channel, well done!
Another great video! You really nailed some of the things I love about Super GT.
Whenever I hear people talking about F1 being a bit boring, I’m thankful there are other racing series’ out there that are more entertaining.
Sugo was also featured in the 1982 japanese motorcycle racing film the last hero.
Sugo was always a highlight on the WSBK calendar. Like the British round there were always high quality wildcards in the mix for wins
Happy birthday Roflwaffle! Hope you'll continue to make Motorsport videos

I swear, WSBK and MotoGP need to race here. The ARRC is always interesting here, especially in the wets
JGTC has got to be the most underrated series ever.
This is my home track. Had no idea it used to only have five corners.
Roflwaffle fam, you MotorsportTV must hire you at some point, your coverage of SuperGT is the best advertising to begin following this series lol!
As if we needed more reasons to watch SuperGT this weekend, this just puts the nail on the coffin for an early rise this weekend
What an awesome video about a series I hardly knew, and a venue I cant even remember if I knew about it before this video. Thanks for making this!
If you want to see some other weird pit lane shenanigans, you should check the final hour of this year's 24 hours of Spa.
I love sugo so much after project cars 2. Reminds me a lot of brands hatch but I prefer Sufi’s layout
1. I know sugo from super formula and it still baffles me why this track is not in many racing games (Project CARS 2 is the one I remember). Gran turismo has had all super formula tracks but not this one.

"Forza lobbies are such bull. Theres no way you can spin someone out intentionally and not get punished."
Juichi Wakisaka: 13:44
Sugo is the Japan's version of the talledaga speedway on the level of crazy and weird
Never really watched this category of racing but they produce some of the coolest race cars in all racing, like GT3s on roids
12:25 Damn this looks awesome
13:44 ⭕ ⬅️ slightly suboptimal
Is the music in the introduction (at least at the end) a music from Test Drive Le Mans 24H ?
I'm sure at 99% it gave me flashback of me playing this game with my father on the Sega Dreamcast it was so much fun especially the endurance races !
Was hooked from the very start, great video. I know exactly what I’m watching this weekend. Thanks!
Sugo was also ever used in Gran Turismo 6 during time trial mode.
I hope they add SUGO to GT7, it looks really fun to drive
Excellent video yet again! I was about to ask how can I watch this for years until I saw the end of your video!
im glad I seen this video in time. I will for sure watch the race this weekend !!
Most calm sugo race
Sportsland Sugo is awesome track in games, so IRL too I think^^
It's a track purposefully built for testing road-going motorbikes (Yamaha admit that it's unfit for testing for racing programmes other than supermoto) so... of course the car racing will be brilliant! After your earlier videos about the Super GT I always wanted to check this series out but it slipped my mind plus I was cutting back on my racing watching time, after all there is only so much free time.
But I will definitely watch the up coming race.

For me the greatest race of the world is the isle of man TT.
Brilliant stuff, thanks.
Man your videos are so awesome. Best thing I've seen today by far!
Nice vid, thanks 🏁
I Hope next super GT reg will push for rear/mid engined cars
Still waiting for Sugo to be in GT7
19:50 There's no fucking way 😂 I don't whether I'd cry or laugh after losing the race like that
If I remember right, there was also a race there where the Calsonic GT-R was essentially sentenced to life without parole in terms of penalties. I'm not sure if it was 2015 or 2018 or some other year, but what happened there?

32:42 we could possibly have the same birthday lole
The old Japanese commentators always sound so crazy lmao
Happy birthday Mr Waffle
The ARTA NSXs are just Tragic
Have to finish the video later today but rofl, Tha in you for covering these types of things.
Email iRacing this video, repeatedly. Although Palmer Motorsports Park should be bundled with it because I said so. 😂
Japanese commentators are great at adding drama.
