I'm Japanese. I checked the video about Dome S102.
The video begins with racing driver Daisuke Ito wanting to check out the course before his first attempt at Le Mans.
Afterwards, the Best MOTORing editorial team visited Polyphony Digital's studio and asked them to create a special simulator.
Producer Kazunori Yamauchi readily agreed to this request, and a simulator exclusively for Daisuke Ito was created.
Kazunori Yamauchi clearly states in the video, "We created a special version of Gran Turismo."
Therefore, we can see that the Dome S102 is a model created for this version and has no relation to the released version.

As someone who's fortunate enough to have played the auto show build of GT6 and drive the Hyundai Vision GT, it's always confused me how the car was fully playable in the game, but polyphony decided to leave it out. Thank you for covering this!

    • @e-money9251
      @e-money9251 4 месяца назад +14

My guess is that they decided to release the car for gt sport due to how the car looks. Unlike most gt6 vision gt cars that i’ve seen so far, the hyundai actually looks like it could be made and race in real life at some point in the near future, like a decade from when it was first shown. It contrasts itself with the existing vision gt cars in gt6 which many if not all of them have a fantastical and highly futuristic look to it. With gt sport planned to be a more grounded take on the series compared to previous entries, they probably thought why not shelve the car for now and release it in gt sport since it definitely blends itself better with the more grounded and serious aesthetic and atmosphere of the game

    • @CyanRooper
      @CyanRooper 4 месяца назад +10

@@e-money9251 Some of those Vision GT cars were actually built in real life and were fully drivable though. Volkswagen built a Vision GT car in real life (which you can see in this video). There was a company (forgot what it's name was) which took SLS AMG Black Series cars and turned them into Mercedes Benz Vision GT cars for wealthy customers, one of those cars was even driven by Ben Affleck's Batman in the Snyderverse movies. I think Hyundai found out about Gran Turismo Sport being in development and decided that it would be better publicity for them to officially introduce the car through GT Sport instead of in an update in GT6.

    • @e-money9251
      @e-money9251 4 месяца назад +6

@@CyanRooper i mostly refer to how the hyundai looks like it could be feasibly made and raced by hyundai themselves which actually corroborates with your theory that they withhold the car from gt6 because it would generate better publicity if it first appeared in gt sport, the “grounded” entry of the series. Meanwhile, while indeed there are vgt cars that exist in real life many of them are part of the gt sport lineup of VGTs, like the audi e tron vgt and bugatti vgt. I heard about the mercedes being planned to be built but it was never confirmed if they ever went through with it since Mercedes were and still is very strict when it comes to licensing their concept car to be built as is, the justice league vgt is actually a personal request by zack snyder himself to Mercedes. The golf meanwhile is a somewhat unique case as it was based on an actual drivable golf gti concept, the golf design vision gti, so i imagined it wouldn’t be too difficult to make a full size probably drivable version of said car, kinda like the lexus vgt and the lf lc

Well, I'm Japanese and saw the episode in the description.
In the episode, the game was mentioned as:
    1. Using "Secret data" of S102 by dome to build virtual counterpart of the car.
    2. It is the Special build of the game to let both drivers of Ito and Kataoka, who had never been in salthe circuit, to learn the track with Tsutiya.
and no more mention about the game itself in the video.
I think the car exists in only the special build sown in Best Motoring, without body models. The possible reason to PDI to ditch the car, is mentioned in the beginning of the best motoring; "Daisuke Ito has injured at July 11, 2008, while filming HotVersion (another Japanese video series featuring car culture, specially in tuned vehicle)." PD seemingly avoid the race car that caused injury in real life just like Mercedes CLR.
I hope this will help you.

An interesting thing I've noticed while watching this video is seen at 6:13 .
In the background of this shot on the Nürburgring there is an advertisement board for Opel saying: Wir sind Opel (We are Opel). Now, most people who have played GTS will tell you that Opel cars aren't in the game. In fact they have been absent from GT since GT6. This was later changed with this section of the Nordschleife getting AMG advertisements instead. However you can still find Opel logos on the Nordschleife as part of the Graffiti on the track. One of them right before the "Bellof-S" section even has text reads: "Go Manta Go". Most likely a massage for the Legendary Kissling Motorsport Opel Manta B which has a total of 21 Starts at the 24 hours of Nürburgring. Quite incredible for a car that's nearly 40 years old.

Fun fact about the CLK GTR , Mercedes actually secretly bought a privateer McLaren F1 GTR (chassis 11R) and modified it , using it a test bed for their eventual CLK GTR. They swapped their own powerplant in, along with their own aero bits.
Even though they made sure to have no Mercedes logos on it, during testing it had a crash and with the media taking interest, they stopped using the test car.
Thankfully , Mercedes did restore the F1 GTR to its original spec and quietly sold it in an auction. The new owner then did a conversion to make it road legal.

I would like to add some cars that I think should also have been mentioned.
    GTC:
    • 350Z Razo version - It was essentially a "350Z" Gran Turismo Aero, with a Razo livery and tinted headlights.
    • Peugeot 106 '01 - In GTC, the secretly included 106 was a 2001 model. However I'm not sure if it had major differences to the '03.
    • Civic Type R EP with CTR EK colours. (Additionally, there was a model of the Del Sol with a white colour, which was never seen again.)
    GT3:
    • R34 GT-R M-Spec '01 - An almost finished GT-R, that was cut from the game. It also features menu graphics, and its banner is styled in the same way as beta car banners.
    GT3 Beta/GTC
    • Ford Mustang SVT Cobra '99 - The beta versions of GT3 & some versions of GTC have a hidden Mustang model representing the car from GT2. Its day model was essentially finished for early beta standards. It also featured complete physics in GT3 beta, so it was actually driveable.
Additionally, I believe the "Dome S102" they were driving was most likely using a placeholder model from another car, but they probably had modeled the physics accurate to the real thing. Otherwise it wouldn't have helped the drivers very much if they were using other cars.

Rofl, If you are reading this comment, I have a suggestion for a video topic. You need to talk about The Citroen Xsara F2 Kit Car and it's time in the WRC, it is a very esoteric and cruely underrated story in rally history. Akin to a Formula 2 car beating Formula 1 cars outright. This car is one of the fastest, if not the fastest tarmac rally car of all time.

Overall, I loved your take on Gran Turismo's secret/scrapped cars; covering them in the right amount of detail and giving your take on why they were scrapped. While I have known about most of these cars at this point myself, I just love hearing someone else's commentary on them.
For what you said regarding the 406, a common idea that fans will say (I know because fans have constantly told me this on my videos) it's down to PD's bias towards Japanese cars. They'll allow special treatment of their home country's brands in giving them a million variations while with foreign brands to them; they'll just go "ehhhh". In which, there is merit to that argument as there's quite a few cars that PD didn't necessarily have to get rid of, but choose to anyway. Like the 1999 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra that was hidden in early builds of GT3 that was never finished, the BMW e46 328ci that was in GT2-3 and dropped in GT4, and the Ford GT40 Mk.1 road car that was in GT3 and was dropped in GT4 for some reason.
As for what cars I wished made it to their respective Gran Turismo games. The Mercedes-Benz CLK-GTR in GT2 is at the top of my list; I'm still salty they let that model out of the game because of EA's interference. Second place would be Kaz's Porsche 996 GT3 in Gran Turismo 3 and 3rd is the Dome S102 race car. I do believe you in saying the Dome is pure vaporware as I believe PD would've put effort into modelling it by GT5 if it wasn't. With that said, they really should've put time into modelling and licensing it. It could've made for another good LMP competitor in GT5 & 6, but PD didn't want to put in the effort in doing that.

The flying isn't even exclusive to the CLR. The 911 GT1's also had issues with taking off at certain tracks, but that isn't nearly as memorable as the same model taking off 3 times in a single event. It was mostly due to the overhang allowed by the regulations at the time that caused the issues. I'm surprised none of the F1's had such issues; Mercedes would've probably bought the crashed chassis and cannibalised them like they did with the street car during the CLK GTR development lol.

    • @BlueVerti

A video idea I did have is, since you've looked at and rated every mainline Gran Turismo game's implementation of endurance races and rallying, what about doing the same format for the licence tests in each game? There's a surprising amount of variety within these tests between games, such as how (un)fair the difficulty is, and how well they actually teach the player to become a better driver.

  • @AJ_593

Regarding the Dome S102 in GT5P it seems like at least based on the RPM limit of 7500 in-game the engine in question is not the one actually used by the S102. The real-life car ran with a Judd GV5.5 S2 engine which as far as I found only raced at a restricted 7000RPM and which unrestricted could go up to 10000RPM anyways.
GT4 however features some other LMP1 cars which also used a Judd engine, the 2004 and 2005 Pescarolo Courages, which used an earlier and smaller version of the same engine, the GV5, which also in GT4 has the same redline of 7500RPM. This could suggest Polyphony reused some of the data from those previous models to create a "Dome S102" at least on paper which to use in the game, which I believe they did since there exists a text string of the model even if that "car" was only a reused chassis of a previous LMP1 car from GT4 with a few values tweaked.

33:15 The McLaren MP4/13 probably wasn't just for testing, the IRL cars had sponsorship from West, a German cigarette brand. With how the Winfield logos were modified on the eventually-cut '98 Rally Australia Mäkinen Evo, Polyphony must've been testing the limits of how close they could get with their depictions without getting the game's ESRB rating bumped from E for Everyone, up to perhaps T for Teen. However, the top view of the in-game MP4/13 still has the original West logo on the top of the car, right in front of the driver, so unless there are still some Polyphony employees from the development of GT2 with some insight, we may never know for sure.

Quick clarification on the Polo opponent in GT2 - the game has one big list of opponents, and the data for each event lists which opponents from that list it uses (e.g. number 123, 124, 125, 126). The Polo exists in the opponent list, but the Compact races don't use it, hence why it doesn't show up in them. Its opponent number however is in the middle of the opponents that actually are used, implying that it was once used there too.
The game also has a setting per car which can hide it from specific regions / languages. For example, this is used to make Vauxhall opponents only show up in PAL English, and Opel opponents only show up in the other languages, or to restrict Acura to the US version only. Most of the unused / incomplete cars (including the CLK RC) have this set to hide the car in all regions. The Polo however is the odd one out, and is not hidden in any region, which is why it can pop up in the Event Generator.

Speaking of cut content, I can recall the pain of detailed Impreza WRC 2000 from earlier build GT HD never made it onward. Pretty sure there are existing chassis to model on, but Polyphony still refuse to do the work.
For the Stratos, I'm afraid the OG vehicle is impossible to include authentically (as seen in PS3 titles) due to the issue of the livery's sponsor, Alitalia (now known as ITA Airways).
And awesome for try to make sense of the Dome S102 story-which begs the question did Dome or Sega disallowed the Mother Chassis JAF-GT300 cars appearing in Gran Turismo?

another cool thing about the car of tomorrow: the front lip. the original cot had that weird hole in the grill with the bars holding the lip. it caused an issue where if a car went into the grass, the lip would get stuck in the ground and total the car. when the wing was removed, they also removed the weird grill and the lip. i'm not a gt player so i might be wrong, but the footage you showed of the post refresh cot in gt5 had the spoiler, but the front lip was still the old one. it seems like the gt5 cot is some weird pre and post facelift hybrid

I was ready to type a comment saying many cars were missed in this video. But at the end I'm glad you mentioned the fact not every cut car was featured.
One thing I'd like to be researched is GT5/6 and everything surrounding it. The PS3 era of GT is full of unused content which would be great to be shown off to more people.
The weird wedding build of the game is one I'd love to know more about and I'm surprised that wasn't mentioned in this video since pictures and footage does exist of it. That build in particular features a 599, Roadster and a DB9 volante which is never seen in any other game as only the Coupe is seen.
There's also the fact that GT5 has most of GT4 content still inside of it and old tracks can still be loaded. Most likely being remnants of what GT HD was meant to be.
It would be great to see stuff like this shown off to the growing audience on this channel!

And funny how the in-game CLK LM still using the wrong wheel since GT4, despite people praising GT7 to have *the most accurate car model* (I do think it'd be one more reason that Roffwaffle was right about GT Sport and 7 could have brought back the same premium car model from previous PS3 GT)
Anyway, answer for the end question, is the Dome S102 itself, I'd like to see the car appears for real in GT, and no more as a myth

Second: "Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution Final Edition N300" (It has an unused thumbnail that was used for the mission challenge in early stages, i think)

So, I'm not sure if you're aware of this, but Japan & Korea have had a rocky relationship for many, many years. What this means, is that you seldom see Korean cars running around in Japan; and from what I've seen in Gran Turismo the past 25+ years, is that Polyphony Digital (a Japanese company), has seldom featured Korean cars in their games.
Of course, older titles gave us the Accent Rally Car; and later GT games gave us the Tiburon and a few other Korean cars. But it is no small coincidence that Gran Turismo has featured numerous cars from every other major automaker; but not from Kia & Hyundai.
As Korea does produce some pretty AWESOME cars these days, I hope the attitudes towards Korean cars will change amongst Polyphony Digital in the years to come.

honestly my best guess for what the dome clip's actual car was would probably be the audi 8 or r15 (I can't remember what they called it). Either that or the peugot from the same era. that engine sound is very disticntly a turbo diesel to me, which would also explain the spin you showed one of the drivers have early in the clips, since the torque comes on way earlier in the powerband. I know personally from playing forza motorsport 4 that both of those cars had odd lines at le mans and were easy to spin being diesels (I know that's not the best comparison since different handling models, but driving characteristics usually stay similar between cars). The audi especially liked to turn in way quicker than you'd expect, and one of the drivers nearly hits the inside wall going into the first chicane in one of the clips. To me though, the thing that seals it is the acceleration mixed with the lower engine notes. Both the audi and peugot had fairly low rev limiters, only around 3500 rpm, but both cars accelerated very quickly, even for high level racing standards, and seeing how quickly they were able to go on the mulsanne from 200 to 300, it really makes me think it would be the audi.

I know it may sound like utter bs, but I think it's worth looking into, it was also on the same site page they found evidence that Vemac was meant to be in the game somehow.

You are missing 2 additional hidden VGT cars which were shown on the website but never made it to GTSport. A modified VW VGT for the Gr.B class featuring foglights, raised suspension and other racing bits.
Also the ISO Rivolta Zagato with an additional huge GT wing attatched, propbably intended for the Gr.3 class, again, shown on the website but never released in that config.

Would be cool. Knowing GT2 had drag planned yet GT4 has the Las Vegas Strip, Sega GT Dreamcast had it which being a GT1 or 2 competitor was interesting.
Forza Motorsport 3 or 4 among other games had it always was interesting seeing how they presented drag racing. Not an area I know enough about but would be curious.
Then again a comparison of oh PS2 racers or Xbox racers would be a fair dive as well.
      Or locations in racing games.
Just seeing the 4 different ways the Nurburgring was done in PGR2, GT4, Forza Motorsport and Enthusia in a Digital Foundry video was like wow whether the time they got photos or thought it would suit the look of the track it is cool.
Or PGR city layouts or other tracks just being fun to drive on. Original tracks in games not real locations.
