Excellent video! Taking the tire off makes it a little easier but its not necessary. Just turn the wheel all the way to the right and remove the wheel well liner and you can take out the TCM that way.
I just replaced the TCM on our 01 DGC EX, with over 325K miles, last month from this company. The first TCM they sent, wasn't communicating with the PCM. I sent them my test results confirming the TCM wasn't working. They sent me out another TCM within five days. After over 500 miles of driving, It's worked perfectly. Just remember, shifting will not be smooth during the re-learn process. Once the re-learn is complete, it should shift smoothly. They have really good Customer Service. I highly recommend them.
Had a ol' Chrysler master tech say only use OEM if you can still find the original Mopar part its best to go with that one. He said the is a lot of, not great after market parts out there. for both the TCM of the control solenoid.
Good video. What are the symptoms to know that this module needs to be replaced? This video could have been much shorter too! No need to show complete unscrewing and screwing of screws. I hope you agree. Thanks again for taking the time to video and post.
I too recieved a ridiculous quote on this repair, ordered the part online and am about to fix. I understand shops need to make money, but charging less and getting more cars threw the doors might be a better answer!
i have 2011 dodge grand caravan. what are all of the symptoms of TCM going out? I would much rather replace it then have to replace the transmission. Good informative video.
I have a 1998 Grand Caravan and I can't get ahold of my mechanic and I watched your video and you made it look pretty easy so I was wondering if it the same on my car as it is on a 2002 if you can get back to me that would be great
I took my 2018 Ram Promaster city to a transmission shop to swap out the transmission with a low mile 2019 transmission I found. The shop included a $220 charge to reprogram the transmission which I felt was high. After the install they told me my TCM was bad and needed to be replaced (parts and labor) for an additional $525. The shop is now telling me the TCM needs to be programmed by the dealership for an added cost... How many kinds of programming do modern transmissions need and would the shop being doing any kind of programming if the dealer is flashing the TCM?
i have 02 grand caravan sport the speedometer is not working but rpms is working i have no reverse lights and transmission wont shift to 2nd gear the lights reading PRD3L wont move to drive o reverse would the tcm control those fetures...
In the video there was a mating harness mounted above the TCM. On my 2003 Dodge Caravan, this set of wires and one harness were disconnected and corroded. My problem is they do not mate. Not sure if you can identify what connection this is and if this is causing a P1684 code. My only thought was to match the wires together and heat wrap, but the wires are all color coded different. Any help or suggestions, would be great.
I have 03chrysler town country. when im driving and let go of the gas pedal it makes a bump bump and when i come to a stop it does the same thing i don't know if it the transmission cause it feels like it don't down shifting can you help me

Thanks for posting this video - it looks fairly simple actually now that I have seen this video. You didn't specify which tire to take off though. It looks like the tire that needs to come off is the drivers side front. I wonder why the modules go bad? Do the parts inside come loose or do the connections get corroded or something?
I have a 1993 Caravan, I have already replaced the input and output sensors and it improved the performance, however I still experience problems and sometimes it seems to get stuck on 2nd gear... I have to stop and shut down the engine and that solves my problem until it happens again. Wonder if replacing new the solenoid pack might solve the dilemma? I checked Advance Auto and it is an expensive part about $180.00 and can't afford to keep on replacing parts unnecessarily.
Exavier Rivas It's always a good idea to drain the oil, change the filter, and fill and flush out these transmissions through the oil cooler return line until the oil comes clean (takes about 13 qts). Always use Dodge 7176 4+ Oil if you want long life from this transmission. Then add a quart of Lubegard from the red bottle to top it off. With the oil changes and two input sensors through the years we put 100K on the tranny since it acted up. The engine and tranny are still strong at 280K (the shock tower and other things quit)

P.S. this re-boot worked for me on a Dodge Dakota 2002 with the same problem....

Lokey,....not yet....when van was "shifting"....a local Tran shop said need a rebuilt....I have no problem with that if in fact that is the diagnoses but of course most if not all shops will say that....worst case scenario.....
I find most of the time the diag codes are correct....ie...po740..."torque converter clutch solenoid circuit".....does that mean torque converter and or solenoid pack is bad?
I have a 2001 grand w a 3.3l engine, trans fluid changed every 25-30k not burnt, clean & full. Van was running great, suddenly it was I'd shifted to neutral. No indication of anything wrong. No engine service light. Has anyone run into this issue before.
+Christopher Schweiger I had this problem only today. It started with a harsh jerking between first and second gears, it would go from first to jerking to neutral. It would't engage again! Also reverse doesn't engage, pretty much all I can do is engage the L gear and drive it at 10-12 MPH, please let me know what did you do with yours??
+Mohammad Saadeh + there was no indication of any issue what so ever. In fact, I had just come off the highway and the the van was running great. I stopped for a light , proceeded after the light changed. Started up a slight incline and it was just like I manually shifted the transmission to neutral. Fortunately for me there was no traffic. I coasted down hill backward into a parking lot... that was it. Transmission fluid was clean, serviced with filter about every 24000 miles and the vehicle had never been used to tow anything.
+Mohammad Saadeh I had that happened to me I finally found out the problem bad camshaft sensor the cps ( from what I read that go out all the time I read about one car bigger loser then we went out 7 times in 6 yrs.... they are cheap easy to replace 20-30$ I have a 05 dodge stratus did the same thing I thought the transmission was done for and just bought it but got a pocket diagnostic tool and a P code came up...... it took me about 10 minutes to replace it two bolts in a little piece of plastic a little bigger than a silver dollar.......Did you end up having the same problem or something else ?
+ShadyT82 Seriously man! I wish I knew this before but I already disassembled the transmission and will service it soon. I noticed some valves in the valve body were a little stuck. At this point I was quoted 2.5k to fix the whole transmission problem, I'm going to buy the master service kit ($175) and the valve body kit ($35) and see what happens. kinda shooting in the dark and either I save myself a fortune or I threw the transmission away. but will let you guys know what I find, next thing I'm trying is the sensor. thanks for your input
+ShadyT82 I found out that the front sun gear on the 2-4 hub was broken. Reading about the symptoms, it seems the first thing you lose will be the Reverse, second, and fourth gear. However there is no way I would have made it to third if the van didn't engage the second to accelerate, pretty much you can move forward without attempting to accelerate as it will neutral itself. I did re-built the transmission and ordered a used 2-4 hub with the sun gear, will be putting it back in the van soon.
No. The Transmission Control Module or TCM/TCU is the computer located in the driver's side wheel well as seen in this video. The Control Solenoid is located on the transmission bell-housing near the engine block - can be seen with the hood open and looking down between the radiator and engine. It has a wire harness similar to the TCM connect to the top of it.
that's it? get the left tire off, get the shade off, and tah-tah, TCM well exposed? The shop wanna charge me 250 for the labor well I guess I'm doing it myself
I own a 2001 town and country. my van kept shutting down when i was driving it and i thought it was the ecm so i used my carmd and gave me a code of 13. it didn't tell me what the exact problem was, but i ended up replacing the ecm. but i'm getting the same code. would the tcm cause the vehicle to shut down? also when i turn the key on the transmission light blinks and then stays on so not sure if that is suppose to do that, please help anyone
There's some kind of modular on the front of the fuse box in my 05 Town and Country but needs to be replaced because I have no horn The person said the part is like $500 is that the computer
Seems people can't detect en electronic malfunction from a mechanical malfunction. Doesn't look like there was a lead in on the video for symptoms. I bought a neon. Runs fineish when warm. But trans acts like it's in neutral when driven cold. Leads me to believe that it is an electronics problem. One of the TCU remanufacturing companies says their products are refitted and reprogrammed. I would imagine that the TCU is my problem. Since my car does not go into limp mode, a symptom of the solenoid valve pack
They tcm comes programmed when you purchase it..... Shhhhhs give the seller your vin and it's only to your vehicle. This is s how to replace video! Not diagnose your problem
Komanelli The God well the video should have explained that you need to re flash computer is not a take off put on bull shit it won't work ... bad video
+biglyon123 that's what I thought was missing from this video. Do you need a scan tool to program the TCM? I see you can purchase what's called plug and play versions that don't need programing.
carl seminerio That's exactly what you need plug and play it goes according to your vin number and milages it goes around $150 google it they usually all over florida or you will have to go to dealer so they can install software vey expensive thought..
Excellent video! Taking the tire off makes it a little easier but its not necessary. Just turn the wheel all the way to the right and remove the wheel well liner and you can take out the TCM that way.
Thank you for taking the time to make this video. It was very helpful.

Thanks bro you are good at it
super video..gracias senor.

?
What's up with all the dislikes?
Seems people can't detect en electronic malfunction from a mechanical malfunction.
Doesn't look like there was a lead in on the video for symptoms.
I bought a neon. Runs fineish when warm. But trans acts like it's in neutral when driven cold. Leads me to believe that it is an electronics problem. One of the TCU remanufacturing companies says their products are refitted and reprogrammed. I would imagine that the TCU is my problem. Since my car does not go into limp mode, a symptom of the solenoid valve pack
I'm pretty sure you have to program after replacing. This video isn't very helpful.
you can buy remanufactured flashed plug and play TCM on e bay real cheap.
No info on if it worked I see.
