Your video was a money saver. I watched it several times before doing the work. Then watched it as I was doing the work. It took me 3.5 hr to complete it and I'm not a mechanic. Again Thanks!
There are many vidoes out of this for the Caravan. BUT, BUT .... Yours is the absolute Best and most descriptive and the one Im using for my help. Im currently about half way thru the process and coming in and out of the house to watch your video so I know what to do. Bro I really Appreciate You ! You are helping me alot and God knows I couldnt afford a Mechanic ! Thanks !
Great video! I just completed this on my wife’s van thanks to this video. Some things I noticed: Make sure you have a deep socket 10mm or a wrench. Make sure you have a few extensions and possibly a swivel head. Buy a gasket. Mine was 4 bucks. I also laid down a thin layer of ultra black rtv before putting the gasket on. If you use ramps, you barely lose any fluid. I didn’t disconnect the transmission lines and was able to work around them easily. You can put the pan on from the bottom with no problem with the lines still connected. You can do it yourself 100%. Take your time.
I’m a mechanic and I just wanted to write a thank you note 👍🏻, that a great video and one of the best work done to a dodge Grand caravan, I see thousands of video your is the best step by step my sincere Thanks goes to you 🎉
It's a T 25 torx bit, the solenoid your changing is the VFS variable force solenoid. The shift solenoid is in the solenoid pack and the whole pack must be changed. Good vid.
I was a little apprehensive on doing the work myself. But after watching your video I have decided to do it. I've watched a lot of car videos, but yours has a special personal touch. I know that if I run into any problems. I can watch your video again and get through it. Thank you so much
Great video. Just ordered my solenoid. Thanks for all the hard work getting good angles for the video shots. So many times folks miss this very important area. Easy to understand and follow. Thanks again!
Hey man, Your awesome! Thanks for the video. I didn't know where to start. Bought the tools and the part. You where exactly right on each of the socket sizes. I am not gonna lie. I had to go back to the store a few times to get the right size. Thanks again!
Ok. I've watched your video a couple of times. I did the work myself yesterday. It's pretty simple. But you will need a , clean oil pan, set of different lengths of extensions. And top transmission pan gasket which is 25.99 at O'Reilly's. Now if you're AC is messed up you will have to recalibrate your ac controls afterwards. And make sure you have the big plug securely in place and snapped in. Otherwise the vehicle will not start. And the dash will show it to be stuck in reverse. After you have put everything back together. Use a very long funnel and slowly pour your trans fluid back in. If it's still good. If not replace it. I ran into problems yesterday. With not a whole lot of information from these videos. You covered most. Just missed a couple of mistakes. The tran fluid will pour out. Trust me. Unless you are low. I was on a flat surface and still drained about 6 quarts worth. But poured it back in
It is an awesome and detailed video. I am actually replacing it myself and this is by far the best video! Thank you! Now I need one to repair coolant leak ha.
I have to agree with a few other comments, VERY well done video, showing all steps and actually showing the work being done. Now, for MY problem, I would like your educated opinion... 2010 Grand Caravan with 3.8 BUT, the transmission was replaced before I got the van. She believes it's a '17 but it is a 62TE. Was getting P733 and 734 codes but what I am hearing is a scraping/grinding sound when starting from a stop in first and second gears. Not so bad if I was easy on acceleration but still very bad sounding. Went to replace filter and fluid, fluid was pretty toasted and there was no evidence of metal pieces or chunks in fluid but the magnet was coated with filings. I was thinking the gears were stripped and the tranny needed to be replaced. My brother, a mechanic, says it is most likely the shift solenoid. I'd much rather replace the solenoid than the entire transmission for financial reasons, obviously. What do you think? I drive for Uber in Vegas and if I cannot get this problem fixed ASAP I will be screwed for paying rent and therefore become homeless, NOT something I want. I have had to scrape for money and even started a gofundme to get the tranny replaced, would much rather spend a lot less so I am asking for a second opinion. Thank you so much!!
Hey thanks for watching! Im so sorry to hear you're having this issue. I don't like to 2nd guess a mechanic especially one who presumably had eyes on your vehicle. But I don't believe your described issue can be fixed by a Solenoid. A grinding noise/sensation is not a symptom typical to a faulty Solenoid. The noise plus the fact your fluid was "toasted" (presuming burnt) it's most likely the lack of properly maintained transmission fluid has caused damage to your clutch plate!! If the fluid was burnt that means it had zero ability to dissipate heat (its main job) and lubricate for the clutch plate and gears. You most likely have a clutch plate if not torque converter issue. If I'm you, I would save up some tips. Spend the 1 to 2hr cost (assuming they'll charge most shops will diagnose most things for free in hopes you will in turn pay for the repair) and have a transmission shop diagnose it. That way you have 100% all the information you need to properly determine what your next option is. As opposed to assuming it's roached and ditching the van, spending time/$$ swapping a Solenoid to have it not fix the issue or have the van breakdown w/ clients. I hope this was some what helpful, happy wrenching!
hi bro, just wanted to say thank you for the great video! I completed this process last night and no more stuttering/stalling when coming to a stop. In fact, i didn't think this would work and was already planning on replacing the valve body. Man, a small price to pay for a huge problem!
Checking out our van now. We have a 2011 grand caravan with an issue that just started out of nowhere. Drive it and once I get to 40 mph the engine just revs up like it’s maxed out in a lower gear. I had 2 codes come up on my small reader. Codes are P0882 TCM P076A (pd)
I have 2015 dodge caravan.i replaced fluid and filter .now am having hard downshift from 2nd gear to 1.only when am coming full stop in slow speed.upshift is perfect
hey brother, i had the exact same issue with my 2015 caravan r/t. I just went through this process yesterday (drop transmission pan, replaced transmission oil, filter and gasket, and removed valve body pan (reseal with gasket maker) and replaced the solenoid). This evening we drove around 100KM and the braking to stop is so smooth, like brand new!
Hi . Thanks for the video. My 2012 dodge Caravan all started with a small noise. When I went in highway was not slipping. There was no transmission code. The car started to run okay the next day. After three weeks started temporary same problem. I took to my mechanic, he told me the solenoid shaft needs to be replaced. He is very honest and I trust him. He told me that he is not 100 percent that will solve the problem. The car has 88k miles . The car drives okay for now but I am the problem will come back. Just wanted to ask for your experience if I think this will solved the problem. Thanks in advance. Joseph.
My van is having the same issue. I took it to a transmission shop and they said the solenoid is the culprit and also said I should replace the valve body while it's apart. They quoted $3k to do that. Looking at this video I'm thinking that's not $3k worth of work...
HI.THANKS for this great video Mine thrown shift solenoide malfunction and just drive on 1r gear. IS this solenoide or the whole valves box? Did you drain the transmission fluid for this job? Thanks brother
Hey thanks for watching!! Sorry for delay in response..I did Not drain the fluid first, However You absolutely should! Some ppl have been able to change this Solenoid w/o draining the pan..others have not been able to. Better safe then sorry. I always recommend b4 changing this Solenoid to do a fluid and filter swap first, the majority of "codes" or sensor malfunctions I've seen in my lifetime are due to poor/thin/dirty/burnt fluid or a bad filter!! BUT as you're finding yourself stuck in 1st gear or limp mode..if it's my vehicle I'd plan on draining the fluid, and changing the filter and Solenoid all in one!! Happy Wrenching!!
Last August 27, 2022, while I was climbing a bridge at 100 km/hr, suddenly check engine light blinked and I could smell burning inside the VAN. It's stinky that I have to stop and open the hood and see what's going on. My temperature gauge is okay, and the engine is running fine. I run slowly, but when it's climbing, I could always smell the stink. I checked the engine light with the OBD11 scanner and it says P0128 (thermostat rationality - generic permanent). The next morning I checked the thermostat and it seems ok, with no leak whatsoever, run the engine and touched the radiator hose if it becomes warm and if the fan runs. It seems okay. While checking the engine, I saw oil just below the oil filter housing, there was an oil leak. I replaced the oil filter housing with Dorman Aluminum upgrade filter housing. Lo and behold, all the symptoms were gone, the transmission shifted smoothly and the rpm is between 2500 to 3000 before it change gear. Tested climbing uphill (steep) without touching the trans lever and it climbs lower the gear automatically and the rpm goes up to 4000rpm. Problems were solved. What are the connections? There are two sensors on the filter housing, one for coolant and the other for the oil?
Great video! Question: Is this the same part that’s responsible when I drive the van, it doesn’t shift to 2nd or 3rd gear and rpm goes up and I can only run up to 40 miles an hour?
Thanks for the video! I have 2014 chrysler town and country, it drives and shifts okay from gear 1-6. However, the reverse is like neutral, it wont engage at all. Even at 5k rpm still wont move. I checked the tranny fluid and its black what could be the issue?
Hey thanks for watching! So sorry for delayed response, I did not receive this notice! If your fluid was black it needs to be changed along with the filter asap! Black fluid= Burnt/dirty which could explain the lack of grabbing/power when in reverse. If the fluid is old, dirty, burnt it wont allow for proper gripping within the gears. The fluid not only lubricates and cools the transmission, it also allows for hydraulic pressure and friction needed for the transmission to shift!! Change the fluid and filter and you should see a noticeable difference in all gears!! Now if the fluid is as "black" as I'm imagining then it is possible damage has already been done to the solenoids, gears, bands etc. Hopefully you've noticed the issue in time!! Good luck and Happy Wrenching!
Great video. I have a 2015 dodge grand caravan. Was driving great all a sudden check enhine light on and wont go over 40mph. Rpms were over 4000. Shift into drive hard and reverse kind of hard. Error code is p0750. Only has 80k miles. Transfluid is only 3 yrs old. Do u think this will work
Oh Geez that's a tough one. That Code can have several causes. Since you've installed a new filter and new clean fluid to the proper level...we can rule out dirty fluid/filter being the cause. But that could still leave a bad PCM, Clogged or Dirty Valve Body, Bad Sensor...Honestly If I'm You I'd take it to a Shop to get properly diagnosed! Something like that is hard to pin point without being hands on! I'm sorry I didn't have more info for ya..if it is as simple as a bad sensor...or even dirty fluid still being in the valve body..the long you wait to get it diagnosed and fixed..the more permanent and costly the damage will be!
Great video! Recently bought a Dodge Caravan 2012 similar to this and my mechanic changed the valve body (because it would only go into reverse and not in D) and did a transmission fluid flush + filter. Drove for couple weeks and now my check engine light is on (PO731 - Gear 1 Incorrect Ratio and P0792 Intermediate Shaft Speed Sensor "A"Circuit Range/Performance). Car drives great but you can feel some hesitation when I press the throttle and the rpm don't match 100%. Would you suspect this is caused by the transmission shift solenoid or transmission speed sensor?
Hey thanks for watching...so based on the Information you gave, and assuming you used a good mechanic who used a new or reliably refurbished valve body...if it's throwing speed sensor and gear ratio codes it is possibly going to be related to the "Compounder". The 62TE transmission is notorious for having these internal gear shafts fail due to bad rings on the shaft. This is a more involved but rebuildable item, but I'd take the van to a Certified transmission shop for appropriate diagnosis. Good luck!
This video helped so much. Got it all changed but them my alternator went after i drove an hour. Got that all fixed now I'm popping this code again. I just changed it 2 days ago. Any ideas?
Oh No, I'm so sorry to Hear That! It's Possible that Strain to the Electrical System Caused the Code to Erroneously display or the Sensor to Not have enough electricity to properly work thus causing the issue. The 62TE Transmission has an electrically activated Clutch so any change in electrical current could cause a bad shift or sensor to throw an erroneous code. What specific vehicle do you have, code are you showing and are there any symptoms associated with the issue?
Well I have a 2010 VAN and it has the exhaust right over the top...and the only thing that is difficult to take out is the pan cove/insulation.. because that needs to be slide out upwards...where the exhaust is. But I am thinking to see if I can sut it on the side open so I can slide it out sideways....is you know what I mean. The rest should come out fairly easily.
I'm tracking! Sometimes you gotta make adjustments on the fly...if its between saving the insulation cover or swapping the solenoid so the van shifts...I'm cutting that cover out haha good luck!
Friend, excellent video, a question, My 2009 Dodge Journey, 3.5 awd, I put the gears on the selector and it doesn't move even with the wheels raised, if it marks the changes on the dashboard, it doesn't make strange noises, I was checking better and yes I have some codes, I have active p0585, and stored p0716, p0791, p0721, the oil has a good level and is not burned, what could it be?
Hey thanks for watching! Sorry for delay in response I did not receive notification of this question! Based on the symptoms and codes I'm lead to believe it may be an issue w/ the Solenoid Pack itself. In this video I replace the TCC/Shift Solenoid but it is Bolted directly to rhe Solenoid Pack so I Show how to get to the area you need to be, and talk about which bolts are next to remove the Solenoid Pack, although I don't perform that specific task as it wasn't required for this vehicles issue. Even though fluid level was full and not burnt if its old/thin OR the filter is dirty/clogged the Transmission will lose ability to develop the hydraulic pressure required to perform appropriate shifts/gear changes. So if it's been..40..50k+ miles since the last transmission filter and fluid swap I'd consider that as first resort, 1 its the most common cause for transmission codes snd hesitations (micro particles shorting out sensors and inability to develop pressure or cool transmission) and its cheaper then buying a whole new Solenoid Pack so if it may fix the issue I'd consider that first. Hope that helps. And Happy Wrenching!
I may have missed it but i just did this job and had transmission fluid leak out. I also scraped my pan surface and applied a new gasket, i dont like that you just put the pan face back on, i would be worried about leaks no? Then - Finally ensured my trnasmission levels were toped off.
Hey thanks for watching! You are correct I did not mention the Transmission Fluid level check in this video as I did a 2nd video for how to perform a fluid drain and filter swap...that's mentioned at the end...immediately after I filmed this one. I should have labeled this 1 of 2 as opposed to thinking ppl would naturally be directed to the 2nd portion. Good catch! As far as the gasket you are right a bead of RTV would not have been a bad idea, although the van didn't have any leaks in the year the owner had it after the fix b4 trading it in for a newer model. Based on the research, it was 70/30 whether a gasket was used or needed. The local Dodge Dealership said they never replace it and when final taking the pan off I didn't see any signs of a gasket so I ran with it! Thanks for watching and appreciate the constructive criticism!
I have a 2016 Grand Caravan with 85k miles. Yesterday I was driving and heard a whining sound. I was in a bad area at the time so I jumped on the highway, drove about 10 miles, and when I exited the highway, after coming to a stop, the van wouldn't go. It wasn't catching gears for a few seconds then finally caught gears enough to get it to the side of the road [no lights on dash]. I called a couple people, and decided to take a chance to go another 15 miles home. The ENTIRE TIME it would only go up to 2nd gear and sometimes wouldn't even do that. I finally got it home. There are still no warning lights on. I checked the trans fluid level with my scored oil dipstick [I learned to do this from other YT mechanics], and it read way too high. The fluid itself did not smell burnt and looked ok. I siphoned about 1.5 qt out to get it right at the top of the hot line. It's still having the same issue. Still no warning lights. This is our only vehicle. Advice would be MOST APPRECIATED. Thank you in advance! Update: I disconnected the battery for a while and reconnected it. From what I read, that exited "limp mode." The van started to go then I heard the whining sound again, and the same thing happened [STILL NO WARNING LIGHTS ON]. I don't know how to diagnose it.
@@ourhousedeals5152 I'm so sorry you're dealing with this. Transmission issues are the worst! What you described sounds like the Vehicle is refusing to shift which thr code confirms. Reasoning can be anything from low/dirty fluid, dirty filter, bad TCM, bad shift sensor, damaged or dirty Valve Body. Honestly the best option is take it to a shop for proper diagnosis. If you're adamant about trying to resolve the issue at home..if it's my van I'd stay by doing a Transmission fluid and filter swap! That may offer some relief and hopefully resolve the issues long term. If it is a bad TCM or Shift Solenoid that would be best diagnosed by a shop!
Thanks for watching! This solenoid I replaced in this video may fix the issue. BUT I always tell everyone. Change your Transmisison fluid and filter FIRST! 99.99999% of the time, Low, Dirty/old fluid is the culprit! The solenoids will throw a code if it senses poor pressure in the valves..which is almost Always caused by not properly maintaining the transmission. Only AFTER driving for a long time with dirty fluid and filter will the solenoid finally lock up or due to a short caused by build up of ceramic/metal material in the fluid from natural transmission use due to..not changing the fluid! Hope this helps, Happy Wrenching!
They also call this is torque converter clutch solenoid. If you get a p07 something code saying low fluid pressure. 90% of the time. This is the culprit and can cause transmission to not shift down wards properly also and get stuck in first. Or second when coming to a stop. Some times it stalls and some times not when coming to a stop
I have a 2014 town and country. It suddenly slowed down on me one day. Then it wouldn't go over around 35 mph. It goes in reverse fine. The code says transmission shifting solenoid. Should I try changing the fluid and filter before changing the solenoid?
The honest answer is...it depends! How old is the fluid and filter? If it has never been changed...or hasn't been changed in several thousand miles (50k plus) it is possible the bad, dirty, or burnt fluid caused the sensor to trigger. I would at the very least try and check the fluid. Make sure the level is at the proper place and the fluid looks clean! If the fluid looks serviceable then my next step would he to change the sensor!
Thanks for watching! Based on the code you gave that is a "generic" code not really associated specifically with the sensor I changed. The most common cause of that code is dirty, old, burnt transmission fluid, dirty/clogged filter, or low fluid. Meaning the most efficient course to take would be a transmission filter swap and fluid fill. If thay doesnt resolve the issue there could be a problem with the ECM itself. I'll link to a video I did performing a transmission flush on this same van. ruclips.net/video/fuM0d4SfTlY/видео.html
2016 dodge grand caravan shifts great from 1st to 2nd im not sure it gets to 3rd the rpms keep going up speed will increase but no shift change this happens at about 25mph on a easy acceleration. what would you say is the issue
@benpetersen2583 Hey Thanks for the Question! My 1st thought (assuming there are no codes being thrown which would offer us further info to consider) is that you may have low or old Transmission Fluid. The overwhelming cause in my personal experience for shifting issues is because the Transmission Fluid isn't being serviced. The older the Fluid the thinner it becomes, and harder it is to shift due to lack of.hydraulic pressure or increased friction amongst parts. Same can be caused by an old transmission filter being dirty or clogged preventing proper fluid filtering and therefore limiting hydraulic pressure needed for shifting. If it was my van I'd swap the fluid and filter first see if there's any changes if not..my next step would be this Solenoid!! Happy Wrenching!
My 2017 is throwing P0750, P0882, and P076A. The tcm isn't communicating with the ECM. Shift solenoid A and H are stated to be faulty as well. Any advice would be great.
Hey thanks for watching and reaching out! I'm sorry you're having these issues. Based on the codes you've given, if it may van my main focus or area of concern would be code P0882 (Low voltage between TCM and ECM). This can be caused by a host of issues from bad/faulty/corroded Pin connector, bad relay/fuse or even wiring within the circuit. If it's not getting the proper voltage it cant read the codes appropriately and could also mean the Computers aren't even sending proper signals to the solenoids you mentioned so they could be reading falsely. Unfortunately this issue doesnt have a simple solution, it will require a hard diagnostic to verify proper voltage in several different areas of the system to confirm its functioning! 😬 too complicated for me to type out and I would highly recommend spending the $200-300 a sharp would charge to diagnose such an issue to have a definitive answer provided..could be an easy fix..could need an entirely new wiring harness or computer!! BUT if you want to try a few things first, you could take your battery to a shop or auto store to verify it's good. If your battery has a dead spot it is possible its sitting at proper voltage stationary but under certain load circumstances its voltage or ability to maintain voltage is lacking which could result in the system faulting. Verify the battery terminals are clean and solid, if battery is good then perform a reset of the computer..several different ways to go about this process I'd suggest youtbubing a few methods and see which your comfortable with (certain vehicles have specific intervals of key rotations and timing to perform a reset or just disconnect the battery and ground the negative to the chassis for 2 to 3 hrs to drain every relay and capacitor within the system). If this doesnt change the P0882 code then itll definitely need hands on ohms testing by a technician (if you're handy with a multimeter you can try yourself all voltage readings are listed on several sites with a brief Google search). To address the solenoid codes those could definitely be caused by the p0882 (low voltage) issue or dirty/low transmission fluid and bad filter. A simple fluid and filter flush is always recommended b4 swapping solenoids due to contaminants in the fluid routinely causing false reads. Wish there was an easy answer but the spectrum is so broad when it comes to electrical related issues. Good luck, and Happy Wrenching!!
A very useful video, thanks for taking the time to record it. Just FYI: those 5/16" bolt heads probably are 8mm, which is essentially the same dimension. Doubtful that Mopar would use a mix of metric and SAE bolts on the same assembly. While I'm at it: my 2015 C/V Tradesman (same drivetrain) sometimes will downshift 4-3 under load (uphill) when accelerating, and run up to 5K rpm without upshifting even if I ease off the throttle; only by momentarily getting off the throttle will it agree to upshift 3-4. No codes. Does this sound like a shift solenoid issue? (no stalling as evidenced by the car in your video) Cheers
Thanks for the info on the Bolts Partner!! I'm not good at Metric/Standard equivalencies. As far as the shifting issue..if only occurring "underload" and "uphill"..and is downshifting that to me sounds like normal Transmission work trying to compensate for a heavy load...is it accompanied by any burning smell, chugging, slipping...something that indicates the Transmisison is working hard?
@@minutemaintenance7385 No burning smell or other scary symptoms. Perhaps it's time to flush and replace the fluid & filter. Thanks for your reply. Cheers
Hey thanks for watching! The solenoid replaced in this video is not the "high shift" solenoid. To get to the various specific gear shifting solenoids i.e. under drive, overdrive, low clutch etc..you'll have to remove the entire Solenoid Pack which I describe the process of how to do around the 22min mark of this video. All the other solenoids are behind the solenoid pack! The Solenoid Pack in itself is fairly in expensive and if you have to replace 1 of those solenoids..I'd personally just swap the entire pack with all new solenoids as well. Good luck and Happy Wrenching!
Awesome video. Most detailed instructions I've seen. I'm thinking about undertaking this job. No check engine light, but my 2015 Caravan will sometimes die at stoplight. Shift to park and it will start back up. Battery, alternator are all good but no check engine light and this is the problem that comes up when I looked online.
@joshdavis6753 I haven't had it occur again for me to go out and bite the bullet on this repair. I'm a little hesitant reading comments about transmission fluid leaks while accessing the part and other comments suggesting I replace a seal while I'm down there. Let me know if you end up doing this. I'd like to trade the damn thing in, but times are tough
Hey thanks for watching! My instincts say no, the main symptom would he stalling. Basically when the shift solenoid fails, it causes the torque converter to lock in place causing the vehicle to stall. If the van just isnt going into the right gear or has low power in a specific gear I'd check my fluid first. Make sure it's full AND clean. Not old and burnt. If that checks out I'd unfortunately recommend going for a formla diagnosis at a shop, its fairly inexpensive, lots of places do it for free expecting you to have them perform the work afterward. But at least youd know. If fluid looks suspect, swap the filter and fluid. Good luck!
I have a 2013 Caravan and sometimes when it accelerates from a stoplight or sign, it jerks into gear. And lately it wouldn't shift going 50mph at 4k rpm. Is the shift solenoid also the problem? Also the fluid is dark not red. Your thoughts please?
Hey, Thanks for Watching the Video! If Your fluid is "Dark" I'd Consider Changing the Fluid and the Filter First and Soon!! The Darker it Gets=the More Burnt/Old it Is. Most Common Transmission Issues as Far as Slipping, Hesitation Shifting etc Can be Resolved with New CLEAN Fluid. If Its My Van, I'd Do That First, If That Doesnt Resolve the Issue Then My Thought Would be a Bad Shift Solenoid.
Hello! I have a 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan. does not shift beyond 2 speeds and when you turn on R and D you feel very strong impacts. Changing the oil and sensor did not help. Do you think replacing the same salinoid as in your video could help me?
Hey thanks for watching and.the question! I apologize for delayed response I did not get the notification form RUclips sent directly!! Based on the symptoms you described I don't believe the TCC Solenoid would be the culprit. The most concerning issue mentioned was the "strong impact"..I'm envisioning some form of clunk or drop when shifting which could be caused by a worn out bearing or internal part. If you changed the fluid and filter yourself and can recall if it smelt/looked burnt..overly dark or even silty as if there were fine particles inside that'd be an indicator of a More severe internal break down. You could always pull the dipstick and check the current fluid for any sediment type material (ceramic or metal flakes) or a strong burning smell but won't be as accurate as the old fluid would have been. But if I'm you..I'd have it inspected at a Local transmission shop as soon as possible. Some transmissions can be saved before it gets to the point if replacement/rebuild, let them diagnose it, most in my experience do it for free to attract potential customers, but even if it costs an hrs labor it'll give you the knowledge needed to make an informed decision!! Not the answer you were hoping for but best I can do! Good luck boss!!
Hey Thanks for watching and the Question! That is not a symptom in my experience that can be caused solely due to the Solenoid Pack. If the trans pump was recently changed hopefully it's still under warranty as that would be my first guess as to the problem.
my 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan, dose not shifte gears when picking up speed and dose it when i slow down and then have to pick up speed on long drives. in town with all lights and stop signs, it works just fine. any suggestions?
@lindaramirez5296 Thank you for watching! If I'm understanding what it is you're describing, my first suggestion would be to get the Transmission Fluid and filter changed. Old, dirty, thin fluid or a dirty/clogged filter will prevent the transmission from developing the pressure needed to properly shift gears..especially at higher rpms..(faster/higher the van goes hotter it gets, thinner the fluid becomes). It is possible however the torque converter or solenoid pack could be at fault here as well but my 1st order of business would be the fluid and filter. Good luck and Happy Wrenching!
My. Dodge grand caravan shifting hard and have major problems shifting down fast and stalls going from 60 hwy to a complete stop at the red light turns starts losing rpm then stalls? Any thing will help
Thank you for watching! Based on your brief explanation there could be varying issues that would cause this issue. I'll list them in the order I'd check.. 1: Low/Old/Dirty transmission fluid and filter. If the fluid isn't the right viscosity due to being old and thin or dirty the van can't maintain the fluid pressure needed to shift/hold gears. Quick shifting will force the van to stall out. 2: Shift Solenoid. It is possible one of the shift solenoids is faulty (or sending bad readings due to issue outlined in #1) 3: Torque Converter going bad. The torque converter I'd the Muscle behind the transmission working, if 1 or 2 have been acting up for to long it will cause overheating and damage to the converter. If you can find a mechanic shop or transmission shop preferred, if have it properly diagnosed. Your issue is clearly a safety concern for you and others on the road. Most shops will diagnose for free (hoping you'd pay them for the job in the end) but even if it costs $100 or so..better to "know" for sure which sensor, which wiring issue, what's part is bad and if it's fixable as opposed to chasing possible sources as the issue described does truly have dozens of possible causes, I simply outlined the 3 I'd be focused on if it was my van. Happy Wrenching and Good Luck!
I have a 2016 Grand Caravan and it has an intermittent problem where it won't shift into the highest gear. When this happens it also won't shift down when I put the pedal to the floor. If I come to a stop it will start off in first gear though. It just won't kick down when I try to accelerate. Any ideas?
Hey Thanks for watching and sorry for delay in answering your question, I did not get notified of your comment! 1st thing I would do is pull the dipstick and check fluid level and clarity! Is the fluid old, thin, burnt..especially look for any signs of burning via dark discoloration or smell as your issues sounds like it could hena fault within the torque converter. If fluid doesnt appear burnt and level is fine, I'd consider a fresh fluid and filter swap regardless as removing old containments/debris and adding fresh thick fluid is the number 1 way to resolve most shifting issues. The older the transmission the less pressure it can build up to allow shifting the more important fresh, thick fluid and a clean filter become! While I dont think the symptoms you describe match that of the TCC solenoid if none of the above helps get you closer to an answer..I'd take the van to a shop for diagnostic. Most shops will diagnose for free to minimum cost hoping you'll pay them to repair it and they'll make money on that end of things. That way you'll at least have a better understanding of what's wrong and what your options are. Not the best answer but hopefully it helps, good luck and Happy Wrenching!
@@minutemaintenance7385 Thanks for the reply. The fluid level is correct and is not burnt or off color. I discovered one more thing. When it won't shift from 5th into 6th I just need to put the car into neutral and shut the engine off. I restart the engine and put it back into drive and it always shifts into 6th gear and stays there. It's not the shifting into neutral that has an effect, it's the shutting the engine off and then on again. It would seem to indicate that the issue is some kind of signal to the transmission to shift that is wrong. The transmission works perfectly once it has shifted into 6th gear.
My 2012 dodge grand caravan just started not shifting from 2nd to 3rd under load on its own but if you put it in manual mode you can shifting it. Also it's not shifting into 6th gear on its own or in manual mode
Hey Thanks for watching! I always recommend ppl do a transmission fluid and filter change first before changing solenoids or the pack...reason being in my experience the majority of codes thrown or shifting issues occurring..95% or higher are because the fluid is old/thin/dirty or rhe filter is dirty and or clogged! But to answer your specific question you would need to replace the Solenoid pack as opposed to the TCC Solenoid I demonstrate in this specific video. Good luck, and Happy Wrenching!
I have a 11 grand caravan every once in a while it stalls at a stop when I put my foot on the gas does fine until I put my foot on gas does right away put it in park start right back up. Also sometimes downshifts hard from 2nd to 1st and almost jerks. Do you think this could be the culprit
Hey thanks for watching! What your describing are similar symptoms for the solenoid I swapped in this vehicle! I always suggest, changing the transmission fluid and filter FIRST as in ANY vehicle the most common cause of shifting issues is old, dirty or low transmission fluid! But I would say you're on the right path!
Some things I noticed:
Make sure you have a deep socket 10mm or a wrench.
😊
Kainslaton366, your recommendations are as valuable as 12 of these very important Videos! Thank You SO Much !!!
hi sir, is there a gasket for this pan? From all videos ive seen so far, its just gasket maker for the seal.
I’m a mechanic and I just wanted to write a thank you note 👍🏻, that a great video and one of the best work done to a dodge Grand caravan, I see thousands of video your is the best step by step my sincere Thanks goes to you 🎉
Hats off working with one hand and holding the camera with the other. 👍
It's a T 25 torx bit, the solenoid your changing is the VFS variable force solenoid. The shift solenoid is in the solenoid pack and the whole pack must be changed. Good vid.
Great video. It gives me confident to buy a used Dodge Caravan.
You showing how the clips release! Priceless thank you!
Hey Man!!! Thank you so much!! Your video saved me lots of money, I took me 1:30 mins to do the job!!!
I was a little apprehensive on doing the work myself. But after watching your video I have decided to do it. I've watched a lot of car videos, but yours has a special personal touch. I know that if I run into any problems. I can watch your video again and get through it. Thank you so much
Update? Did it work out for ya!? Peace
Great video. Just ordered my solenoid. Thanks for all the hard work getting good angles for the video shots. So many times folks miss this very important area. Easy to understand and follow. Thanks again!
Thank you very much for taking the time out to do this for us. It helped me out a great deal. Blessings to you.
Nice video. I like how you took the time to show exactly what you were doing but at the same time not waste time. Great info.
Thanks so much for the tutorial! This saved me a lot of time and money. Swapped the shift solenoid and now it’s shifting great 👍🏼
One of the best home wrenching videos I've ever seen.
I want to thank you for such a great job on the video about changing the solenoid on the 62 TE transmission..
amazing to have the patience to record this difficult to see solenoid part removal
But poured it back in
Great video with instructions. Thanks for being so detailed about the clip removal. Some of those wiring clips are like a puzzle to me.
Thanks for watching Partner! Hope your Vehicle is Shifting like a Dream after this!
I replaced the entire valve body , cost about $120 on eBay, worked like a charm
all i have to say is this is one of the best videos i ever seen.... salute!
THAT IS SOME EXCELLENT VIDEO AND EXPLANATION!! DAYUM. GONNA DO THIS. THANK YOU SIR!
Thanks for the details on how to unlock the transmission solenoid connector. It's lock is different from the other connectors in the van.
Yes you are a good teacher and a good mechanic and the best part that you walk we step by step
Great video on how to fix the solenoid.
Thank you very, very, very much!!!! I was scared to do it but after watching ur video got it done!
I’m actually about to do this. My husband believes it a lot of work 😂
You make it look too easy, GREAT video to understand 👍
It is an awesome and detailed video. I am actually replacing it myself and this is by far the best video! Thank you! Now I need one to repair coolant leak ha.
NICE WORK WITH 1 HAND APPRECIATE THE VIDEO 🎉🎉
You do such a great job explaining each step. Thanks for your vide, my friend.
Thanks@@minutemaintenance7385, your input is much appreciated!
I like that it was step by step .that make it possible to attempt it your self
Thank you my friend..! Excellent clean job.
Thanks for the video! Appreciate the help!
A pro with the cam and one handed work. 😂👍
hi bro, just wanted to say thank you for the great video! I completed this process last night and no more stuttering/stalling when coming to a stop. In fact, i didn't think this would work and was already planning on replacing the valve body. Man, a small price to pay for a huge problem!
Woah YT does have a little of everything. Thank you for this detailed video!
Checking out our van now. We have a 2011 grand caravan with an issue that just started out of nowhere. Drive it and once I get to 40 mph the engine just revs up like it’s maxed out in a lower gear. I had 2 codes come up on my small reader. Codes are
P0882 TCM
P076A (pd)
I have 2015 dodge caravan.i replaced fluid and filter .now am having hard downshift from 2nd gear to 1.only when am coming full stop in slow speed.upshift is perfect
hey brother, i had the exact same issue with my 2015 caravan r/t. I just went through this process yesterday (drop transmission pan, replaced transmission oil, filter and gasket, and removed valve body pan (reseal with gasket maker) and replaced the solenoid). This evening we drove around 100KM and the braking to stop is so smooth, like brand new!
@@stevensly what solendiod you replaced.
super excellent video man you say me a lot of money thank you so much
Joseph.
Great video brother
great video . I liked and subscribed
excellent video very well explained
Awesome tutorial, absolutely the best on how to do, especially when it came to taking the connectors apart.
Bob Ross of auto repair.
After watching this I'm feeling pretty confident I can do this swap ..what size tools did he use
Hell ya! Thanks man. Jeff from Ottawa Canada.
Awesome teacher
Great video!
Excelente video pero al colocar la tapa no es necesario ponerle silicon ? Saludos
I recommend using air and blow gun to blow off the trans and anything around to keep sand and whatever debris from getting inside.
Great video man
My van is having the same issue.
Very good job brother
i have a p0520. im gonna try this if tightening the pins on the connector doesn't work.
Do u think this will work
I have a 2015 town and country. I am having a shifting issue. It slams rear hard going from natural to drive and it won't shift out of first.
Oh Man I'm So Sorry to Hear About Your Transmission Problems. Are There any Lights or Codes Being Shown?!?
@@minutemaintenance7385 code says low line pressure, has fluid, new trans filter ect
Good luck!
BRAVO GREAT VIDEO , YES
Update 2: After disconnecting the battery again, I finally got the van to throw code P083B
@@ourhousedeals5152Did you get your van fixed?
I don't know if you mentioned this or not. Maybe I just didn't hear but is it necessary to drain the transmission fluid before opening the front pan?
My friend Caravan has P0760 and it is literally crawling with high RPM and not shifting properly. Does this fix apply to this issue? Please confirm.
Does anyone have a part number for the vfs? By the way great video
My town and country runs great i just cant go on reverse anymore u hear it struggle on reverse n wont move.. can this be the same problem?
Good 👍 job brother.
Teach me how to fix noise when driving
Good video
Hi bosss I have the problem P076A shift solenoid (H) it’s that one in your video ? Thank I for the help friend❤ dodge caravan 2011 mainstreet
@@minutemaintenance7385 the fluid was recently replaced by a shop as for the filter id assume thats what they did too thanks
That's your tipm causing that...tipm is the motherboard of the car and only Chrysler and Dodge have them from 2008 and up ....
You're awesome!
(no stalling as evidenced by the car in your video)
Cheers
Thanks for the info on the Bolts Partner!! I'm not good at Metric/Standard equivalencies. As far as the shifting issue..if only occurring "underload" and "uphill"..and is downshifting that to me sounds like normal Transmission work trying to compensate for a heavy load...is it accompanied by any burning smell, chugging, slipping...something that indicates the Transmisison is working hard?
@@minutemaintenance7385 No burning smell or other scary symptoms. Perhaps it's time to flush and replace the fluid & filter. Thanks for your reply. Cheers
My town and country 2013 sometimes gets stuck in one shift. I have to turn the car off and then it works perfectly again. Solenoid problem??
So this would help me replace a high shift solenoid on a 2013 Dodge Journey SXT 3.6L vvt
My 2015 is doing the same as yours, did you replace the solenoid and if so did it fix the problem?
@joshdavis6753 I haven't had it occur again for me to go out and bite the bullet on this repair. I'm a little hesitant reading comments about transmission fluid leaks while accessing the part and other comments suggesting I replace a seal while I'm down there. Let me know if you end up doing this. I'd like to trade the damn thing in, but times are tough
Great video, my 2012 dodge reverses gear is not working. Do you think could be the solenoid too?
My dodge journey 2015 has a code P075A Shift solenoid G, would this fix the problem?
Wonderfull job Sir,thank you
Good job … thanks you
Can a faulty solenoid pack or valve body make a winding noise? My trans pump was replaced just a few months ago.
It is possible one of the shift solenoids is faulty (or sending bad readings due to issue outlined in #1)
3: Torque Converter going bad.
I like your video and I'm getting ready to attempt the same thing but you don't have to put a new gasket around the pan before you bolts back together
2016 town and country shift solenoid h.. is it the pack or the shift solenoid that is bad?
