    So my trans pump was starving making bad whining noise and the started doing some funky shifting stuff I replaced filter and fluid took away the whining and it's accelerating fine so that fixed that problem however now I believe I'm in limp mode it will not shift would the car do that cuz the pump was starving. Do you know another way to reset the sensor and get it out of limp mode now that the original problem is fixed?

    I just found out on my 2011 dodge grand caravan,the issue may be the thermostat or a clogged radiator, when checking my van I saw the reservoir overflow and all that overflow antifreeze went straight to the solenoid pack conector causing all that problem..

    • @kgpreacher7777
      @kgpreacher7777  2 года назад +1

      Bad deal. We had a similar issue with our reservoir overflowing. Initially we thought it was head gasket related, then thought thermostat. Ultimately, there was a little hose that had come disconnected that caused the coolant not to circulate and then to overflow. Hope you are able to figure it out quick!

    • @fishinwithhomer

      @@agustinnaranjo1924 the overall replacement was easy. I struggled with the three metal tubes that connect the solenoid pack to the inner transmission while removing it. Allow rtv to dry overnight.
      I did order a transmission dip stick specifically for the van year/make.
      Our van was on ramps and it stayed on ramps until the rtv was set.
      I was on a budget so I just swapped the solenoid pack. I didn’t go the extra mile. Buy one quart of transmission fluid just in case. I didn’t need any, I think because our van was parked and on the ramps for 5 days before I started working on it, all the fluid settled to the bottom and back of the transmission.
      Borrow or buy a torque wrench (inch/pound) don’t wanna over or under tighten anything transmission related.
      Some videos show them testing it with a multimeter, my old one tested fine compared to the new one.
      What would I do differently? I’d order the solenoid pack from Amazon. I needed asap so I got for the parts store. Getting from the store, they’ll ask for a core. Amazon is cheaper, parts store has it in stock.
      Good luck!

  • @johnlobbestael626
    @johnlobbestael626 Год назад +3

    you don't have to disconnect the upper radiator hose, just lift the reservoir up out of it's clip on and then lower it down and remove from below. It's also easier by removing the battery and battery tray, not hard to do, gives you much more room to work...

    I have a 2016 Grand Caravan with 85k miles. Yesterday I was driving and heard a whining sound. I was in a bad area at the time so I jumped on the highway, drove about 10 miles, and when I exited the highway, after coming to a stop, the van wouldn't go. It wasn't catching gears for a few seconds then finally caught gears enough to get it to the side of the road [no lights on dash]. I called a couple people, and decided to take a chance to go another 15 miles home. The ENTIRE TIME it would only go up to 2nd gear and sometimes wouldn't even do that. I finally got it home. There are still no warning lights on. I checked the trans fluid level with my scored oil dipstick [I learned to do this from other YT mechanics], and it read way too high. The fluid itself did not smell burnt and looked ok. I siphoned about 1.5 qt out to get it right at the top of the hot line. It's still having the same issue. Still no warning lights. This is our only vehicle. Advice would be MOST APPRECIATED. Thank you in advance!
    Update: I disconnected the battery for a while and reconnected it. From what I read, that exited "limp mode." The van started to go then I heard the whining sound again, and the same thing happened [STILL NO WARNING LIGHTS ON]. I don't know how to diagnose it.

      I’m not sure. It definitely sounds a little different from what we experienced. Is the check engine light on? If it is (or even if it isn’t) I would try to find out if it’s thrown some kind of code and that will help with narrowing things down. Most of your auto stores should have the reader to see if it has thrown any codes.

    • @kgpreacher7777
      @kgpreacher7777  3 года назад +1

      It sounds like something isn’t making connection right. When you plug it all the way in that harness should engage again and it’ll make it difficult to unplug it like it should have been that first time you took it apart. If everything is engaging correctly, then it’s possible that either you solenoid pack or the plug is defective or possibly dirty and not making a good connection. If it works sometimes when you move the plug, by guess would be it’s an issue with your plug. It could be in the wiring harness or even in the wiring itself. Someone else may be of more help than me, but those are my thoughts.

    I have an 09, Chrysler town and country 3.8 v6, touring, 25th anniversary. Does have close to 193,000 miles. Im 2nd ower. Van is from Florida. Van has had two transmission flushes from 1st owners. They never beat on this van. It was my grandparents van... one night on my way home from work, i took off from a red light in town, it took of fine, shifted into second gear fine, i notice the RPMs are climbing and not shifting to 3rd gear. I let off the gas thinking it would go in third gear. It idles down like its in neutral,🤔. I step back on gas and it revs back up till it catches same spot in second gear. When this happens, some times it will take off from a stop in second gear but i can let off gas pedal, and press it a little further and I can feel it drop down in first gear and it will shift fine. Other times i have no choice but to pull it over, put van in park, shut the van off all the way, restart the van right back up without waiting, put in drive, and it will shift through all the gears like its brand new?!? When i do restart it, and take off again, it shifts very smooth, dont miss any gear, dont stick in any gear, it shifts perfectly then! Then it might not act up with not shifting problem for another day, other times it might do the same thing after two or three stop lights. Another thing i have noticed is where you can shift it manually.... (where you can pull shifter past drive, and shift up and down by hand ) will not work when it acts like this, it wont even show on dash thats its in 2nd gear. Nothing shows at this point. I'm stuck between the issue being a speed sensor, shift solenoid, or i have heard of a computer/brain for the transmission... most of these components are a little out of my price range since my kids and I lost their mother from a drunk driver taking her from us Dec, 15th 2018. So any extra cash goes to keeping kids and i under a roof. So if anyone can let me know where the issue lays, I'd more then great full. I also do all my own mechanical work. I was raised on a junk yard and can safely say i personally never took my vehicle in a shop. I have took it to part stores and had them scanned, because its easier to trace some things down. Have took it to OReilly and plugged in obd2 but didnt really give me an answer to a specific part... thanks in advance for any advice. SO SORRY FOR TYPING A DAMN CHAPTERS BOOK!! Just tried to get as many details in here for people who can help me understand this on-going issue...😒

      I had this happen to me the other day. Wouldn’t shift into 3 rd. No engine light so I thought the clutch packs got worn out.
      Today I took it out and had all gears.. I gave a good shot of fuel and after a few times it stopped shifting again, this time it threw a p076A for the shifter solonoid “H” hopefully replacing this fixes the problem and I don’t have worn out clutch packs.

      @@ernestoreyes8050exactly that's what mine does it'll start off at first gear then shift from first to second and then from second to third if you easy on the pedal it will shift and work out great but if you giving it too much gas it'll slip out a third and go back to second gear and stay there you got to pull over shut it down let's sit for a second start it back up and move on your way very easily cuz I believe it's not pushing enough fluid. And if you do this I would recommend to change the transmission fluid at the same time when you put the new solenoid pack on.

    A bad solenoid pack and a person trying to get away by not giving it a lot of gas to make it shift it will destroy that transmission when it falls back to a lower gear and person tries to keep up with traffic in second it will burn the transmission up as long as you replace the solenoid pack when needed you'll never have a problem with that transmission

This is a 2011, so make sure yours is similar because I’ve heard some models are a little different which could add some work to what you would need to take off to reach the part.

You will probably lose some fluid when you open it up to replace the solenoid, and I believe there is supposed to be a certain amount of tranny fluid (3.6L) in there with it being a closed system. Good luck!
