The local Memphis radio station, 89.9 WEVL, was playing one of Valerie June’s songs a few days ago on the way to work. I grabbed my phone to look up the song. Just now finding out a few days later that she is not only from Tennessee, but my guy has also met her through mutual friends a few times. So much better to find out she’s from (here). She’s great!

I have been following Valerie June for a few years now. She like many of us souls is connected to the stars, to the universe. It is a soul thing, a spirit thing. Her music and energy is so needed in the world as tumultuous as it is today.
The most unique voice I've heard in decades! I hope she never makes it "big", it would just ruin a beautiful woman. I know that sounds bad for me to want her to NOT become a household name, but experience has shown what happens when hungry artists become sensations. God bless and protect this woman. Please.

Goodness me - she can' t sing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Out of tune almost all the time. I know some people around here think the same thing could be said about early career Sting or Rod Stewart or Joe Cocker - but not true!!!!!!! They were out of tune a few times but never ALL THE TIME!
It hurts listening to her songs - as much as I like her style being quite original as a songwriter!
WE JUST LOVE HER SINGING THE WAY IT IS, RAW, NATURAL AND REFRESHING AND SUITS THE SOUL BETTER. SINGING PITCH PERFECT IS FOR COMMERCIALISATION OF MUSIC, RECORD SALES AND THE CHARTS.

SHE IS NO DIFFERENT THAN ERIKA BADU. STUDIO RECORDINGS HAVE SPOILED YOUR HEARING TO GOOD MUSIC FROM A GOOD, GIFTED TALENT. STUDIO RECORDINGS GO THROUGH MANY TAKES AND MANIPULATION ELECTRONICALLY ON SOUND MACHINES BEFORE THEY ARE RELEASED FOR YOU TO BUY OR HEAR IT ON RADIO. HER SINGING HERE IS LIVE, NOT IN A STUDIO DONE IN VARIOUS RETAKES. WHAT YOU HEAR HERE IS WHAT THE GIFT AND TALENT SHE HAS IS AND IT SOUNDS GREAT AND NATURAL.
