Saw her on a rerun of "Murder, She Wrote" a couple of weeks ago and she was playing piano and you could tell it wasn't fake, so I looked her up and found out about her music career. She's awesome!
I saw this late one night randomly. I had never heard of this band and I was instantly amazed. Love this band! What a way to be introduced to Rilo Kiley
That's exactly what happened with me. Had never heard of them; was floored. One of America's best-ever bands. I saw them twice live, and I put their show up there with the very, very best. I saw Springsteen in 75. The energy RK brought to their shows was comparable.
Austin City Limits did the same for me but with Wilco. Right now im watching Jenny Lewis on ACL with my tem year old son and remembering watching The Allman Brothers on ACL with my grandma on the farm when I was his age.
As someone who went to High School with Elliot Smith, I think he would have loved that rendition of Ripchord, and laughed about it in the best way possible. RIP ES and thank you RK for your songs too.
I think they were poised to with their last record, problem is they’d already been together 10+ years by then and Rabbit Fur Coat is probably a better record than Under the Blacklight.
Watched this in 2021, thank you for posting this amazing performance, I listened to take offs and landings during a car ride this summer and was hooked on rk since then, this band helped me get through some tough times
Jenny Lewis is a goddess. Caught them twice in D.C. (Black Cat & 9:30 Club). Both shows were wonderful. Too bad they broke up soonafter the second one. Miss 'em.
thank you @skylinenumber9 - i recall seeing this performance on tv yeears ago and was enchanted by Jenny voice (not knowing who this band was) but had no luck finding who the artist was. Luckily weeks later, my friend had me listen to Silver lining, and they were my favorite band since!

If you thought rkives was a revelation, find a free download of their initial album, which is sometimes just (self-)titled "Rilo Kiley", and sometimes titled "Initial Friend". Some of the tracks on there (like "Glendora") quickly became my favorite RK tracks, but hardly anyone knows about this album. It was so amazing discovering all these "new" songs by them.

Same! had it on my dvr for years and then was gutted when I moved and lost it. Keeping coming back to watch. Just can’t stop.

In some ways, "RKives" is my favorite Rilo Kiley album. It is the most consistent from start to finish.
