Palpatine's Point of View KNIGHTS OF REN...(Canon)

  • in the Secrets of the Sith book (canon) we learn about Palpatine's point of view on Anakin, Vader, Luke, Rey, Kylo, lightsabers, Star Wars planets and many other topics and characters (jedi and sith). Today, we will examine his thoughts on The Knights of Ren.
The Knights were very promising in The Force Awakens. I thought they would have a fantastic story in the last jedi and then hopefully in the rise of skywalker. However, sadly, we did not see much of them or their story at all.
Here's Palpatine's point of view of the Knights of Ren from The Rise of Skywalker.
    What do you think?
Could the Inquisitors beat the Knights of Ren?

I reimagined the Knights of Ren to be radicalized Jedi. They are Light side Force users without compassion and acts in extreme.
When they see someone with Dark Side potential, even if it's a child, the Knights will murder without a second thought. They are cold and calculated to ensure Dark Side never return.
The Knights live by Yoda's quote, "Once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny." Thus, the Knights of Ren targeted Luke Skywalker as he has once tapped into the Dark Side.
They hold the relic of Vader's helmet because to them, the only good Dark side user (regardless former or current), is a dead one. It is mercy to liberate the being so they will not suffer the Darkness they have brought upon themselves.

I once had an idea for my own alternate Star Wars universe. A force technique called "Force Tuning." In short, anybody can use the for, they just needed to be "tuned" to it.
It's a very risky technique for both the Force Wielder and the Person being "Tuned." One slip up and either party would get their brains scrambled. So the Jedi of my universe would only take those already pretty close to being attune with the force. This reminded me of it.

'A good death' as in the first ROKR comic explains, is the sacrifice of a loved one : kin, or close friend of the postulant. Killing a powerful opponent would do too: a high ranking military opponent or equivalent. Killing Ren was enough to grant Kylo acceptance, but it was not quite the good death as expected. Since Kylo was also a very powerful Force-user, they accepted his usurpation of the role. Being Force-sensitive is a base requirement for joining them.
As Force users, they may have heightened senses and strength/agility, maybe some resistance to Force-push or mind-trick, but being untrained, it was very limited, putting them above average fighters, but that's it. Their _savagery_ is what granted them their reputation and power. Their equipment too, enhanced with electronics, or containing Force-enhancing artifacts.
There are few good fanfictions telling their potential stories, since the Reylo fandoms is the most productive one story-wise. I know a few writers - including myself - who incorporate them in re-works of TROS/alternate Ep 9. Every possible version exists then, from reformable Knights truly loyal to Ren, to treasonous curs that turn for a Mutinous Hux. I have written a few combinations myself.
(There are also harem versions of them - I don't go there)
So if you properly filter the Sequel Trilogy fanfictions on AO3, you might find some very _very_ interesting stories about them, for they _are_ a fascinating group of characters.

Idea: The Knights were a dark side order that used to be very powerful and wreak havoc, but were eventually destroyed in an encounter with the Jedi. Then, a few survivors(perhaps partially trained students) rebuilt their ranks gradually and they hid themselves from the wider galaxy as the events of the prequels played out. With the death of the Empire, they saw fit to re-emerge and encountered Jedi Master Luke in the process.

Okay, quick back story about the Knights of Ren if I had total control over it: We start VIII out on a plane, dark figures stand watch as Ren's airship descends. The knights of Ren, all former apprentices of Luke Skywalker awaits Kylo's command, which, to noone's surprise is, that they should split up and go find Luke Skywalker. One of the knights, Kylo's oldest friend Jido, speaks, telling Kylo that Kylo knows of Jido's relationship to Rey, that he once had a vision of her when they were all under Master Luke's training, that he fell in love with that vision and that he could sense her presence If Kylo permitted him to do so through the force. That is Kylo's power over them, and WHY he is their leader: Jido lays a hand on Kylo and THROUGH Kylo Jido senses the force, senses where Rey is and how to get to her. But he also senses Kylo's desire to kill her. He hesitates. BUT Kylo sees his hesitation. The force swells up in Kylo as he holds Jido in a force choke, feet lifted over the ground. "What did you see, Jido?" They spend 8 in that ambivalence, Jido revealing slowly how to find her without wanting to, fearing Kylo might kill her, until Finally Kylo figures out that it is Jido witholding the information. It turns out, that the destination to where Rey is is the same Island as the one where Luke is, but when Kylo finally gets there Rey is already gone and only Luke is left there. That was the reason why Luke whent into Exile. He knew this day would come, the day where Kylo and The Knights of Ren, his former students, would arrive on the Island. He fights ALL of them, and one by one, they succomb to his superior force abilities until only Kylo is left. The two of them fight a battle the length of the one between Obi-wan and Anakin in III and those images are the ones flashing in both Luke's and Ben's mind whil they fight. Suddenly Luke sees the moment in which Ben KILLED Han Solo. The image makes him drop his lightsaber, just like Ben lowered his before Darth Vader: "Go Ahead, Ben. You were named after one of my former masters, the great Obi-wan Kenobi. He once stood as I did, before Darth Vader, before my father, your grand father. He gave Darth Vader a choice, to follow the path of darkness or to lay down his saber. Know this, young one, If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you can ever imagine." A silence ensues much like the silence before Ben killed Han. Then he tries killing Luke, but he can't. "I know there is still good in you." Luke says as Ben breaks down before him.

After all we know he humors Kylo at the start, allowing him to wear the helmet, pretending to be Vader, before ultimately revealing his true thoughts on it later. I bet if Snoke was around he might have belittled the Knights at some point as well.

Ahhhh I forgot about Lucas saying everyone could use the force way before the midiclorians thing. Whats also interesting is the prologue in the New Hope (Star Wars) novelization and the journal of the Whils. Anyways. Lucas said it was like wanting to learn karate or yoga.
Though I did think the Knights of Ren were cool, I think they could've done more with them. I was very interested in them when we we knew very little.

In the current comics the Knights of Ren show up as part of Crimson Dawn. (this was a story taking place between The Empire Strikes Back & Return of the Jedi.) So i guess they were old by the time episode 9 came about & why they died so fast?

"Choose a worthy target" is reminiscent of the practices of the samuri (which would make sense) and that of knights and or vikings/warriors of europe. In each case it means to find someone who has the ability and or promise of beating you in a fair or equal match. A good death as you can imagine is one that is found only in combat to the death. It is a simple concept that is even found in many military dogmas today. This is even a truth among certain ranks of the US and UK militaries respectively though not to be confused as a type of cannon for the military practices. It is more of a mantra and or behavioral ideal.

The 'Knights of Ren' are George Lucas's version of the '47 Ronin' IMO. I imagine their original leader was a person familiar with the entire scope of the Force but didn't adhere to any 'strict' part of it. This person probably ran afoul of the powers-that-be & was summarily assassinated before he could gain any more power. His acolytes (followers) decided that they would avenge their leaders death by taking up his cause., & much like the 47 Ronin, became outcasts. Adopting the mantra of believing that "The ends justify the means", the Knights of Ren had little regard for life & limb.., especially their own. As their 'ship' was now rudderless, they began a slow spiral into darkness.
Now then, the case could be made that their story would have made for a great movie. And I've got the perfect storyline to go with it. Sadly though, Disney will never give me that honor. They prefer chaos now.

The Knights of Ren are a group of darksiders that in ancient times were known as the Eternal Alliance . There power were so great that both Republic and Sith feared them and often formed alliances with them instead if making them enemies. Throughout the centuries there influence vanished and power splintered due to infighting and losing important history until someone claiming to be the descendant of the The Outlander known as Ren took leadership . Ren would reorganize them into the Knights if Ren by having the members fight to the death till there was only 6 survivors were left. These 6 would represent the original factions of the alliance(Jedi, Sith, Eternal, Mandalorian, Republic, Chiss) and together with Ren would terrorize the outer rim and unknown regions. Although they never returned to their former glory they were still a threat to the Jedi and rivals to the Sith.

  • @endra813

Actually, in the recent issue of "War of the Bounty hunters", you can see the knights being a part of crimson dawn( and also different members which means youre right about them switching) which could mean that they were founded or regathered by maul. "Regathered" because there have been legends about the Knights of ren for centuries, so they must have been there for a long time, maybe they were a much bigger organisation in the past and got divided somehow, which would mean that the Knights we see are just one group out of many. Another possibility ist that the Knights from the sequels just used the legends of a completely other group called knights of ren to threaten the people. But either way, i love them, no matter how their potential was wasted, and hope they will get their comeback and be badass, just like boba fett got majorly fixed after his anticlimactic scenes in episode 6.

I honestly think it’s a cool concept of introducing an antagonist force group that doesn’t use lightsabers and instead incorporate the use of their force powers into various weapons. They could really expand on the creativity in terms of the utilisation of the Force via the Knights of Ren. Shame they’re on the hands of people who don’t know what they’re doing at all.

@starwarstheory kind of sounds like a Viking Raider pursuing plunder when you phrase it that way. As well as a Good death sounds really honorable, something Vikings also held strong appeal too. As well as using the Force like a Hammer, again, maybe it buffs there battle prowess, giving them strength or better insight, or something along those lines, like a Hammer can also create versus destroy so maybe they could refine themselves in a different way compare to Ways Jedi use it, and ways Sith use it.
The EU Legends has some out there force powers and maybe they were something similar to that. Same with the Nightsisters drawing off a different side of the force as well.

Sounds to me like the book is saying there was an anchient Dark Side order known as "The Knights of Ren" who were a massive threat in The Unknown Regions. And that The Knights of Ren we see in the Sequel Trillogy is just a bunch of Mercenaries/Assassins that took the name for the street cred that came with it. Thus why they were child's play to someone who was trained in the ways of The Sith.

@Star Wars Theory: To answer your question, the “good death” requirement is that the target must be a person of importance to the applicant. In the comics, they only let Ben join because he’d accidentally killed a friend...but don’t give him full membership because it was accidental. It must be a death that reflects their ideals: pain and death to any and all who cross your path, no mercy. The Rise of Kylo Ren comic do the group more justice than the films imo. Them testing their recruits by requiring a good death makes them more akin to a band of serial killers than the more organized cults like the Sith and Nightsisters. They don’t want anything except to burn anything in their path, and that’s a different type of threat. I would really like a series covering the Knights under Ben’s leadership before he officially joins the First Order.
