  • In the Secrets of the Sith book which is canon (and from Star Wars episode 9 The Rise of Skywalker), Palpatine's point of view covers many topics, characters, and worlds.
Today, we're going to talk about the chosen one and how Palpatine felt about Anakin Skywalker who then later became Darth Vader. He goes into great detail about his thoughts from first meeting Anakin to becoming Vader and then again, rising as Anakin (or in his view, falling as Anakin in the end).
Make sure to check out yesterday's video regarding Matt Smith confirming the Star Wars Episode 9 Rise of Skywalker rumors were true regarding him being part of it. As to what his role was...I don't know, and he didn't say...but he said it would have changed the history of Star Wars.
Maybe he was a young Palpatine in a flashback against Plagueis, where Plagueis took over his body, and Palpatine this whole time was actually Plagueis. Just a theory...a...Star Wars Theory

One thing I keep considering, and because I was of that generation, is the advantages and disadvantages of Luke and his father. In the realm of Nature versus Nurture, Luke had more ingredients to go very Right. Anakin was skiing uphill from his slave origins on up. Everything that could be thrown his way was. Luke, in contrast, was a kid with promise in a fairly basic upbringing. For Modesto. Lot of Lucas in Luke. His life was sleepy, waiting to be woken up. Anakin was awake from day one. Trauma is the difference.

It makes sense for the franchise's main villain (especially with everything that Palpatine has done throughout the mythos) to have that level of power; to be virtually untouchable by anyone except the protagonist when they muster up the strength over the course of the story.
Who knows, Palpatine might've just told Yoda that Anakin would become more powerful than either of them as a means of scaring or unnerving Yoda, when in reality he knows that the most powerful Sith of all time is none other than himself; that Anakin might rival him and might even be able to surpass him given the chance, but not completely blow him out of the water in power level. Given Palpatine's motivations, I don't think it makes sense at all for him to knowingly encourage a being who could potentially defeat him -- Palpatine had no intention of being overthrown and he *_CERTAINLY_* wouldn't stand for anyone having more power than him, so why risk Anakin if he knew he could become stronger than even himself? To me it makes more sense for Anakin to be merely a rival to Palpatine, given Palpatine's status as the main villain and Palpatine's character as a whole.

The light that never left Vader, in my opinion this is the real reason why Vader was never able to achieve his full power. Not from damage to the flesh, but damage in the heart and mind. He never embraced the Dark Side like Palpatine. It’s a mindset Vader was evil but not as much as Sidious, that guy was a complete psycho.
I believe that’s why Sidious wanted to replace Vader with Luke, he is Anakin’s son, he inherited a lot of power from his father but he doesn’t have Vader’s personality issues so he might just be able to fully embrace the Dark Side unlike his father.

Interesting. Here’s my take on this book, of which I will explain using this book as it is (allegedly) made in-universe, similar to Luke Skywalker’s Secrets of the Jedi (and other Legends books such as The Jedi Path and Book of Sith respectively made in universe)
While there’s no doubt some contradictions in this book, don’t forget: this is a book made by the Sith for the Sith. Deception, manipulation, and treachery are amongst the most powerful traits a Sith could have. Whereas Force Lightning could eradicate a dozen or so adversaries unfortunate enough to be caught in its deadly arcs, a Sith is able to subjugate an entire populace through deeds that aren’t always out and center.
Point is Sidious is the ultimate master of subterfuge and a skilled manipulator. To believe everything he says as gospel is to be taken with an entire salt mine from Crait. While Plagueis understood the concept and prefers immortality through physical/scientific means (ie manipulate midichlorians), Sidious has come across this knowledge (in legends from Cronal, aka Blackhole from early Marvel comics; currently unknown in canon) of transferring his Essence to a different host.
In regards to Skywalker, he was Palpatine’s favorite tool to manipulate: by acting as a kind fatherly figure that rivals (and then supersedes) Obi-Wan Kenobi, he has done much (with seemingly so little resources) to not only groom the Chosen One to become his next apprentice, but one that is worthy to carry on his legacy. Hence why he told Yoda “Lord Vader will become more powerful than EITHER of US”. What better way to depose of your greatest rival in the Force than conversion to one’s cause? It’s a tactic that both Jedi and Sith has used over millennia in one instance or another.
And again, Palpatine isn’t known for his stark honesty, nor does he believe that he should ever be replaced (with the exception being Vader pre-Mustafar), hence why when he teaches his apprentices (and other acolytes) it is given in bits and pieces, never a complete package, one that shouldn’t be taken as gospel.
Even his gatekeeper of a few Holocrons (like the famed Telos Holocron) isn’t above manipulation and deception with his point of view.
So whatever Palpatine says in the book Secrets of the Sith that seems contradictory, that’s his deceitful nature coming to the forefront.

@@11bluekitkats at the same time, we can’t just blame Disney for everything. Disney has given Kathleen Kennedy the same amount of autonomy as Kevin Feige (in addition to Pixar and 20th Century Fox), with some guidelines sure.
It’s like in Labyrinth of Evil Mace Windu even thinks that “not everything can be explained with Dooku” (especially when it comes to the Battle of Coruscant. While this “could” be referred to the “Disney era”, that doesn’t mean that this is Disney’s own continuity.
Before the acquisition by Disney, had Lucas went through with his own Sequel Trilogy, it would’ve definitely contradict the EU post ROTJ . Even a few people at Lucasfilm has even talked about resetting the continuity, but I’m getting off track here. Moving on
Is everything from the current canon set forth by Lucasfilm fantastic? No not really, but the same could be said of Legends (plenty of duds for every gem) as it’s also discombobulated even moreso than Canon (not defending Canon, that’s just an observation growing up with Legends material all my life)

    • @tweso1499
      @tweso1499 2 года назад +3

@@11bluekitkats again that’s Lucasfilm that creates the stories and characters, even moreso than Disney. ESPECIALLY moreso than Disney. Disney’s the distributor whilst Lucasfilm’s the producer of Star Wars content. Even when creating attractions, hotels, and experiences at their theme parks/resorts, Disney relies on Lucasfilm having the most accurate representation of the Star Wars mythos that is currently at work.
A counter argument to your statement is that regardless as to who creates the stories and characters, it’s not just “conforming” to the lore that makes it faithful to what has come before, but also to expand upon the universe.
For instance, there’s more questions than answers about the Force that even wise and experienced masters of any order isn’t privy of.
Nothing is impossible with the Force. It’s the users and how they utilize the Force that depends just how powerful they could be (as well as being receptive).
If we kept to how stories are as they appear to be, we wouldn’t have amazing stories such as Grand Admiral Thrawn in the original Thrawn trilogy outsmarting the New Republic; Darth Revan wouldn’t have been such a popular figure; even ordinary people or citizens would be overshadowed if they weren’t represented right.
So it’s not just a Disney matter, it’s Lucasfilm’s responsibility to deliver the best they can get, even when they’re not with the company.

Considering it's Palpatine's point of view it could also be skewed to his perspective as well. He considered him a rival, though Anakin had the potential to be stronger than him might mean he knew how to manipulate him thus making him also weaker in his eyes. The omitting of any meeting in the Kenobi show could be explained as "it was just written before that decision was made" or that it wasn't as significant to Palpatine as Obi-wan's death.

Wow I always heard Palpatine say "Lord Vader will be more powerful than I ever was." So I assumed that he was speaking about Vader eventually using the Dark Side to his full potential in the future if he (Palpatine) were to fall in battle to Yoda. Makes sense considering how emerged in the Dark Side Anakin was and how powerful he became in such a short time. But now knowing he says "Either of us" makes me want to go back and rewatch the movie just to see if makes that scene feel like a weird Mandela Effect. Thanks to you I learned something toady. Since it's Palp's POV, I think that line was a combination of hubris and retroactively re-writing history for any readers in the future. By that I mean he would want someone 1000 years from that point to think that Vader was always destined to be beneath Sidious- "The HEIGHT of Vader's power is where I am now and I'm still growing so you see how much more grand I am as a Sith? The man who wiped out the Jedi, the enemy no Sith has vanquished, is my inferior!"

This literally is the mythos and lore. Anyone still refusing to accept that after all this time is just being indignant. Legends was never canon, just glorified fan-fiction. I for one am glad they are taking the great aspects of old stories and weaving them into a coherent narrative for the first time. Before, star wars was a huge stinking mess of contradictory narratives and really ridiculous plots that very rarely showed any original creativity. There were far more stinkers than gems in Legends. It deserved and needed to be purged for the sake of the Star Wars continuity. Current canon is actually engaging and creative while also dipping into Legends for those gemstones.

The lore here. The recent Darth Vader comics fudged some ideas of Shmi's pregnancy and what role Palpatine had in Anakin's inception. It was a page that went nowhere, in my opinion. And it really didn't need to. How far do you want Palpatine's mechanations to go? Dude thinks ahead. Period. I am going to say Plaguius and his meddling in the Force should be canon again. THAT was a thick idea. The idea The Force itself, dark and light, smacked back and frelled up Darth Plagueis, and by proxy his apprentice. Their over ambition was their Achilles heel.

It seems like Palpatine wanted Anakin to overthrow him, due to his statement to Yoda in Revenge of the Sith. Honestly it seems like Palpatine wanted to see the rise of the Empire and it's construction get underway, then pass ruling over it to Anakin, when Anakin challenges him. I think he saw Anakin as a better suited leader due to how Anakin wanted to make and shape his world, and Palpatine saw that vision in Anakin as great potential for leadership and management of an entire empire.

Honestly, it doesn't sound like contradictions to me. If you look at Plageius when he was younger, sure I could see him thinking that Essence Transfer was a myth, a joke. But in his elder years? He could have had second thoughts about it. Plus HEARING of a thing doesn't require that the person knows how to do the thing, merely that it exists is enough.
The Force allows for TONS of abilities, Palpatine experimented as did many other Sith before him, an he was well aware of this. It doesn't matter if his master thought it was nonsense, it only matters that he mentioned it. Just an example - You can hear of a religion, but even if the person you heard about it from sees it as nonsense isn't enough to tell the person it's confirmed nonsense.
As for Anakin's power. He said his power rivaled his own, WHEN ANAKIN WAS FIRST DISCOVERED.
All Jedi & Sith powers have to be nurtured and strengthened. He may have had COMPARABLE power when he was younger, but as we all know, once you train yourself & strengthen those best parts of yourself, you become stronger.
Basically, you're looking at it from a single time viewpoint. You can say you liked this person BACK IN THE DAY, but now you hate the person. Saying you liked them is not a contradiction. Past Tense.
As for "Balance", the funny bit was is that the Jedi did NOT promote Balance. The Grey Force Users were more Balanced than the Jedi, even Mace Windu was more Balanced cause he had one foot in the Dark Side. Balance is Neutrality. Good is a side, as is Evil. Neutral is in the middle. Balance has no side.
Anakin DID bring Balance to the Force. The Jedi were simply deluding themselves by thinking they were balanced, when they clearly weren't.
Just cause Anakin wasn't the Jedi's idea of the Chosen One, doesn't make them right, it simply makes them ironic fools.

You gotta be careful comparing canon material to non-canon material. At best, any such comparisons are novel thought experiments. That’s it.
I still fail to see why people heap so much blame on Disney for not accepting novels like “Darth Plagueis” as canon. Disney purchased LucasFilm, which never recognized the EU material as official Star Wars canon.
I was a little surprised that the film novelizations were [not] regarded as canon. But, I can understand that policy, seeing how “Revenge of the Sith” novelization tells a significantly different story from the film.
As far this book goes, the writings of Darth Sidious do not contradict canon. There are his own personal thoughts.
If he believed he was the most powerful being to ever wield the Force, then so be it. After all, he did have “unlimited POWER.”

    • @LazerzFalcon
      @LazerzFalcon 2 года назад +1

SWT will never be careful in that regard, because his whole anti-disney obsession hinges on him treating Legends as pre-existing canon and the weird mental caricature he and other sweats have, of the evil Kathleen Kennedy supplanting Legends timelines while cackling and burning copies of "Heir to the Empire" in the backroom of Lucasfilm studios while a weeping Dave Filoni gently tucks the last copy under his fedora.
That's the thing they can't wrap their heads around --- treating the mess that was legends just like Lucasfilm intended to treat it (as a functional" what if series" or fan fiction adventures) was the best thing Disney could have done to start building out a coherent story.

    • @thesharpercoder
      @thesharpercoder 2 года назад

@@LazerzFalcon I agree, 100%. LucasFilm probably never owned the rights to any of the EU material, with Timothy Zahn’s “Heir to the Empire” being a possible exception, or a negotiated exception.
I do not think Disney has ever wanted to dispose of all of the EU material, which is why they renamed it Legends. I think the the Legends material fits into official canon as mythology, or the stuff of dramas on the Holonet.

I always wondered, did you name it after Darth Bane’s first apprentice, before she changed her name? I know you love Star Wars, so I thought it was possible. Peace.

Just curious - do you think it was the will of the Force for Anakin to have lost to Obi-wan and lost his limbs like that and then need the Darth Vader suit we all know and love? You state it was the will of the Force for him to turn to the Dark Side. Or was losing to Obi-wan not really in the actual cards? Like I said, just curious.

@Star Wars Theory This might be a dumb question. But did Legends have a lot more inconsistencies when it was canon than disney canon?

What if the Force was warning Anakin that as long as Palpetine was alive Padme would never be safe? I like the fan fictions that say Anakin could have stayed in the Light.

I think it would be cool to see the Palpatine save jump Anakin but, the way Palpatine ends up on his knees looking at Anakin looks like he cares for him but he’s more devastated his new power has been broken.

With how much they retcon stuff from Star Wars books, I wouldn't be surprised if they retconned this one to say Kenobi and Skywalker did meet again. The way Ewan McGregor talked about it on the sizzle reel seems almost certain that they will meet.

Interesting what you said about Anakin's most powerful force ability being Foresight. Isn't that the same power that Sipho Dyas was exiled for? Perhaps exiled isn't the best word.

Speaking of "we see him on the forest moon of endor in his young form once again", could you make a video on wich digital alterations to the Original Trilogy were justified/look better?
I've seen one or two videos/lists in other places, but I would like to know "Nia's Point of View"😉👉

The only plot point movie wise that I feel makes Anakin returning as a force ghost a last minute addition to his story is the fact that his body does not disappear after rejoining the force.

Could you do a theory video on why qui gon didn’t reach out to dooku before and died to make him become a force ghost like obiwan did anakin? It’s just weird dooku is the only one in that lineage that didn’t get to get one

Why would he lose his premonitions? I always believed that he new the Death Star was at risk of destruction in ANH when he stops in the hallway and prompts for his T.I.E. Fighter be prepared to extradite.

Ya i feel the same, maybe it means he only lost then for a bit while he was leaning toward the darkside. Because it is said he had internal conflicts during the padme/Obi-Wan scenes. Which is why i think he lost that fight (high ground as well) but he was a much better all around fighter before that.

That was always one of my problems with palpatine claiming to have learned it from his master and in that book clearly stated he didn't know it.
