Visiting churches as a foreigner was of course impossible in the times of Stalinism, but I remember travelling through Siberia in the seventies. A priest in Irkutsk opened a side door for us to stand in a very dark part of the building. This was how I first heard this kind of singing live. Listening to this the memory comes back...thnx!
I can’t imagine what it would be like to be in the room when this was happening. Some of those final descending notes were Forte or even Fortissimo. Can you imagine standing in a room with several oktavists singing at Fortimisso well below the bass clef like that? It must rattle the floor like an earthquake
The choral music of the Russian Orthodox tradition gives a glimpse into the rich culture and faith that has been hidden from the western world. Rooted in the artistry of counterpoint, voice leading, and text painting, this music opens the heart and mind to worshipping God Almighty, who created man with the gift of music. I must learn more of this tradition.
I know that listening to this choir on RUclips is like TRYING to imagine the real taste and feeling of a cup of coffee on a beautiful sunny morning while listening to the birds. .... I try to imagine the feeling of how it is to listen live to such great singing!
When you got an oktavist in a choir, sound excellent! Whe you got an entire group of oktavists, now you get the real stuff. Tremendous power and harmonics.
I can’t even hit D2, the power behind that D1 is incredible Edit: I can now do Db2 after 2 years more practice, but the power behind my voice an octave higher than these guys is so much lower than what they are managing. The Oktavists here are impressive to say the least.
Being a bass I can hit D2 easy but it took me a while to hit D1 comfortably. Learning subharmonics is easily the best thing you could do, assuming you don't know about it. In which case ignore me.
This is one of the greatest choirs and choral recordings I have ever witness, seen and heard! Every time I listen and watch, it moves my heart and soul! I AM OVER COMED!

Je n'ai jamais rien écouté de si beau; parfaite harmonie des voix et entrée précise des basses profondes. Quel ravissement ! Je reste subjuguée. Merci pour tant de beauté.
check out the anomalous orb activity by the guy in the striped red shirt on the right side 4:25 a "dust particle" makes a sharp turn as it flies from his elbow area. also cute how the sun starts shining into the camera when they start singing
Absolutely amazing. What male choral piece has ever had that kind of bass presence in recent years! I'm also really glad that there is a more international collaboration of oktaists evident in such music. I look for more profundos singing together in the next few years, with the international appeal of "the Millers."
That was fantastic, the members of the choir were so together. How long does it take to get the different tones going, how much endless rehearsing is involved, to make something as moving as that. I suppose the phrase move over Rachmaninov is a tribute to the choirs conductor. I have never heard an English choir sing anything as moving as that, all the superlatives apply, simply stunning.
IF ONLY ALL NATIONS COULD LEARN THE ETERNAL LESSONS OF CHRIST THROUGH MUSIC LIKE THIS, THEN THERE WOULD INDEED BE ONE PEOPLE ON EARTH, FULL OF LOVE, PRAISE AND ADORATION. NO MORE PARANOIA, VIOLENCE AND WARS. FOR GOD'S SAKE STOP THE MADNESS!
Wow. That really really is low! I wonder if all ten octavists did hit the D1 . You can hear several did. It's so low that only a very few men could hit that convincingly. Does anyone know ? Amazing. Sure beats the American close microphone brigade.. Lol
Hello friend. I can hit even lower, only thing that is a problem is that I don’t have enough experience with such vocal type. I started doing singing in later age and so I cannot lean the low notes enough as well as not beimg able to phonate is correctly and the resonance isnt the best. But I am getting there. Problem is lack of good teachers able to work with such low voice in my country. Nobody I have spoken to has any clue. And my tessitura is very low, everything I sing for normal basses I sing octave lower basically. My current teacher has said that i truly have a rare vocal type and that there surely will be more than enough attetion for it and success. So I just need to get there so I may bring joy to the world nothing else matters;) be positive :)
I can hit a resonant D2 in chest and go down to G1 in less resonant chest but after then it turns into subharmonics until E1 and maybe even D1. So basically they're a whole octave lower than me in resonant chest. Sad

I love this! And I want to sing it with a new Russian Chorale we are forming; is there anyone who speaks Russian here who can help transcribe the cyrillic letters to English ones? It would be still in Russian, but in the English alphabet. Please help me on this, it's the one song that can create a new Chorale.
Imagine if Beethoven got ahold of the manuscripts for some of these works... one can only imagine what great music he could have created with the basso profundo.
can someone explain how that chandelier moves slightly by itself when they first start singing? click from the beginning to like a minute in... you'll see. that thing must weigh hundreds of pounds. it should have oscillated if enough force was able to nudge it, it stays perfectly still. something that heavy is going to retain inertia and oscillate. explain that for me. are there other views of the mounting of the chandelier? because it'd be hilarious if it's not supposed to move.

What an absolutely wonderful memory to have!

Stalin morreu quase (senão) 20 anos antes... Não ouse sujar seu glorioso nome

No you did not.
I first heard this hymn on 30 years ago on a cassette by the Orthodox Christian Chorale of Metro Detroit. Divine.
These Christian Orthodox chants have to be some of the most beautiful peace of music ever written.
Male voices have such a pleasing sound, especially a cappella. Beautiful!
Absolutely!
Heaven opens up a little while ... as perfect praise raises up to reflect fulsom peace.
Such beauty points me to God Almighty, the Creator and I worship Him alone.
Thankyou

Incredibly rich and powerful -- choral work at its finest. I could listen all day.
Insane descent from 4:49! Those balrog growls are out of this world.
That last note is not even human , insane drop to the depths. Incredible Oktavists. Truly a gift from God.
I already hear Gandalf shout "Run!"
That is not growl note thats either chest or subharmonic
@@ericslack681 But the final note sounds a little like growled and could be right from that one scene when the balrog first showed up.
fantastic... I wish I had such a deep voice
