"Contemplating the problem of not personally holding any religious beliefs while at the same time recognizing the historic importance of music and architecture and art which is labeled 'religious,' I finally arrived at the conclusion that labeling magnificent examples of art as 'religious' is always a misnomer, because even though the experience of great art throughout western history almost always is connected to religious life in a very practical, direct sense, the religious experience and the experience of great art is never the same experience. I visited Russia, Moscow, St Petersburg. Sadly when I visited St Basil's, it was closed. I never knew it was so beautiful inside! So sad. I have to go back and see it again, with this music in my ears. Russia is a grand place, grander than any other country I have visited. The architecture is so magnificent and gilded. Every church is a jewel. The food is excellent, and people so talented. There is a grandeur to Russia that must be seen. The best literature, music, ballet, sports, architecture, crafts - all of the highest caliber. I have seen greater art pieces in Russian museums than any other in Europe. The subways are Art Deco masterpieces. There is a magnificence in the country that is never shown on TV, we only hear about the ugly politics. Visit Russia. The Hermitage museum takes a week of visiting alone. This music, like everything Tchaikovsky has done, is sublime. Salutations from California, USA.

Tchaikovsky had to have been influenced by something divine when composing this perfect art. This music has touched me on a level I've never felt before. I sat frozen in awe with goosebumps, yet feeling warm and at peace, with all of my stresses melting away and tears of peace forming in my eyes. I feel redeemed and forgiven for my tainted life. The Holy Spirit has truly touched me tonight. Thank you, Tchaikovsky, and thank you Lord.

@@marclayne9261 Lucifer was a talented musician though. We have to keep this in mind. Music is used as a powerful motivation tool during military parade or before a battle too. It is directed to the soul & appeals to the emotion ; it sounds good to the ear and stirs you up. People can be soulishly motivated through their passions to give a large offering ; but that doesn't need to be done in them. That's why it is necessary to be able to discern between the spirit (pneuma in Greek) and the soul (psuche in Greek). Music doesn't feed the spirit ; the Word of God does. Peace only comes by hearing the word of God and applying it into our personal experience.

In 1989, on a visit to Moscow, a friend asked me why I love Tchaikovsky so much when there are so many great Russian composers. I was embarrassed to tell her the truth, that his music, especially his No. 6, the Pathetique, is celestial to me. When I hear the music he heard in his soul when he wrote it, I believe he has been touched by the Divine; his music does just that to me. This piece and Samuel Barber’s Adaggio for Strings (made popular in the film, Platoon) are the most ethereal compositions I know. Their choral parts sound just like I imagine angels sound when they gaze upon the face of a newborn human child.

This touches me deeply as I think why I returned and so many didn't. Barber leaves me with such as feeling of loss while this work offers hope for all in God's love. I pray someday the Lord will let me hear the angels.

I feel sorry for the younger generations who don’t know excellent music that is godly. Pray for our youth that they may find God. Pray that the good overcomes all of the evil that is taking place in this world.

That’s exactly how I feel. I’m of Russian descent and I remember going to specific masses and to funerals in the Russian Orthodox Church. The artwork is stunningly beautiful and the music is unrivaled. Music and art unites us all.

I have been in Russia and in the Cathedral of Moscow and the Church in St. Petersburg and I’m so glad that I found this video. It brings me back to the time I’ve been there. This music is so divine and Beautiful!! It is almost if an heavenly Choir is singing this.

I have heard and read many ill-thought comments, but the one above is quite stupifying. Anyone listening to this music feels the deep spiritual connection which inspired it. "Kitch" it definitely isn't. Prejudice is a soul-destroying thing.

I consider myself agnostic, but when I listen to works of art such as this, I can't deny having an ineffable experience that I describe as "spiritual". As a flawed human being who does his best to interpret these experiences, I don't immediately call it a "connection with God" to avoid being led astray down the wrong rabbit hole.
Kitsch to define religion is not a commentary on the Spiritual. And there are times when words, catagorizing, and labels get in the way. It’s is possible to have an experience that transcends all that we put words to. Listening to this piece is one of them.

Tchaikovsky was completely visionary in this absolute masterpiece. An orchestra of voices ala acapello with incredible range and each voice with perfect tone and without error. Perfection is a prerequisite to the singing of this song because it represents the heavenly host singing to a perfect God ! Perfect in all of his ways. Maybe Tchaikovsky recieved this song from an angelic messenger or maybe he wrote down what he heard in Heaven. Was this the work of his spiritual mind, his heart or a spirit from Heaven ? Only God knows what this is but this is a purely musical phenomenon with many mysteries attached. Thank you for bringing this wonderful labor of love to our ears. May God bless you and those you love ! A friend always ! I love you and you are loved in Heaven because Jesus loved you first !

Это "Херувимская песня", поют ее на каждой литургии в каждом храме. А литургию написал Василий Великий и было это вроде как в четвертом веке. С тех пор и поют.

That masterpiece is of divine nature. I heard similar angels singing once being alone in the house at night in the age of 8 The music was flown from the ceiling of the house and was so beautiful with the pure voices of angels that left me in awe with goosebumps

I dreamt TheGreatBear 🐻 arrived holding a bucket. In this bucket filled to capacity was UnlimitedLove. The Great 🐻 serving as the AquarianAge elegant being delivering the essence of life flowing from the "chalice".
The bucket as in "bucket list" (things tossed into a bucket to do soon before physical death).
Each infant birthed receives the gift of the GreatBear's bucket with their name on it, filled with unlimited love. From conception the ovum learns, trained, tutored, instructed and educated all about love...receives the birthing bucket and smiles at the GreatBear and LittleBear constellations that are "collectively" known as Big and Little Dippers. They connect all the dots
( stars ) knowing the navigational north star in the LittleDipper is similar to love's heart*soul guiding GreatBear here there everywhere.
The dream continued on a wee bit more...

And I have to say when returning to the UK occasionally I do marvel at the wonder of the old Cathedrals , there is a certain peace in them . ( When they are not full of tourists )

Extraordinary. I’ve always loved Tchaikovsky for his great tone poems, symphonies and concertos, but I had no idea he wrote music like this. It’s quite a revelation.
