Trey Lance must be insanely grateful for Zach Wilson because he took all the attention away from Lance being arguably one of the biggest busts of all time.
Update: 5 interceptions in one preseason game, 3 first round picks burned in the incinerator 😟

Trey is definitely a bust but it really hasn't affected the Niners all that much. They're still one of the best teams in the league and will be for many years in the future. Zach Wilson being the next Ryan Leaf/JaMarcus Russell is the main reason why a Jets team with a Super Bowl caliber defense hasn't even sniffed the playoffs in 3 years.

I don't know about grateful, dude got paid $30M to deal with a broken finger and a broken ankle, now gets to happily ride the bench to earn some cash without being in harms way, if he can get past the broken ego he'll be just fine. The question is whether the Cowboys keep him around, he's going to cost them 5.3M to be a backup? Ouch.

This team is special and it is really cool to see how energized my area is with Lions hype. As long as I've been alive the Lions have been a punching bag, but now people are openly wearing Lions paraphernalia, we've had billboards stating pro-Lions quotes and the entire atmosphere has changed. It really feels like the team has exorcised some of its demons and resolved the defeatist attitude of the fan base.
Old Lions absolutely would have fired Campbell that quickly. It just feels like something new and competent is in the air. I'm not sure if we'll win it all, but the fact that we are in a legitimate position to do that is a fantastic feeling. The Cowboys fans may be mocked, but "This is our year!" Is a much healthier fan attitude than "We are doomed and going to blow it".

Thanks for actually covering Lance's story properly. I get annoyed when people call him a bust because the fact is he was never given a chance. 4 games that was all, and they weren't really fully games. Shanahan also didn't want him originally and didn't like him. The GM wanted Lance, not him. So once Purdy came around and fit Shanahan system, how he wanted better and was cheap enough to make up for the draft capital loss. Lance was out the door. Any other player would of gotten more time to develop and actually prove their worth. Lance didn't get that and was never given an opportunity to really prove it. He's not a bust.
Also, wtf was San Fran thinking when they drafted him on a team that was built to win now. Should of just traded for a starting QB with that capital.

Hot Take: I'm a New England Patriots fan and Mac Jones didn't fail in New England because of the Switch to Matt Patricia and Joe Judge as offensive coordinator in 2022. Mac Jones confidence actually died in a game the Patriots won, On December 6th 2021 the PATS beat the Bills 14-10 in a game where Mac Jones threw only 3 times. That was dud to wind gusts of 55 miles per hour happening in Buffalo during that game. Mac lost his confidence when the media made jokes about the Patriots not needing a quarterback. On December 6th 2021 after that win, The Patriots were the Number 1 seed in the AFC. They finished the season going 1-4 and Mac Jones having a 79 Passer rating. That's where he lost his confidence. Then in 2022 and 2023 it was exposed that he had little arm strength and athleticism. Bill and The Patriots did things to hamper Mac Jones, However his lack of arm strength, weak mentality and lack of athleticism is the reason why he became a bust. The Patriots also didn't account for the fact that Mac Jones looked so great at Alabama because he had elite talent around him, Mac Jones struggled when faced with any adversity. The Patriots drafted him at 15 after Patriots guaranteed $163 million in unrestricted free agency in 2021. Belichick put him in a decent situation on day 1. Much better than what Drake Maye is doing currently. I believe Maye will succeed over Mac Jones because he has the Arm strength and athleticism needed to become an elite QB in 2020s NFL.

Aye. Brock Purdy is a pretty good example of this, honestly: He’s not an exceptional talent, though hardly unskilled either. Moderate floor, fairly low ceiling all told… but the 49ers surrounded him with amazing players at basically every position. He didn’t suffer injury after injury, he was well coached (…setting aside questionable tactical decisions in the Super Bowl), he wasn’t getting sacked ten times a game. He had the support needed to develop. I really do wonder what Lance might’ve turned into if he’d not been injured in his first non-Monsoon game as a starter…

"Prediction time before the season begins: The 2021 QB rookie class will be the greatest of all time.
Here are my ballpark estimates for the careers of the top five QBs.
Trevor Lawrence: 1-2 MVPs, will accumulate really good numbers, but I don't know about him getting to a Super Bowl. Think of an Andrew Luck career if Luck never got injured.
Zach Wilson: Really solid franchise quarterback for years to come. He'll keep the Jets relevant. I'll say 1 MVP and 1 Super Bowl appearance if Saleh can keep them going in the right direction. Comparable career to Matt Ryan.
Trey Lance: Will have the best career of the top 5 QBs. At least 2-3 MVPs, and I'll say 3+ Super Bowl appearances with 2 rings. Comparable to 2001-2010 Tom Brady.
Justin Fields: Will be the Bears first true franchise QB. 1-2 MVPs, and I think he'll win the Bears a Super Bowl. Similar career to Aaron Rodgers.
Mac Jones: If Belichick stays for the long run, which I think he will, I think he takes OROY, 1 MVP and 2 Super Bowl wins. Won't have the best stats but Belichick will build him up with his exceptional schemes. Similar career to Troy Aikman.
At least three of these guys will be in Canton one day.
Now go ahead and laugh at me and we'll all check back here in 20 years."
    WOW, JUST WOW 😂

There's plenty of high drafted QBs that don't meet expectations but these are the guys where I wonder "How did you ever end up on an NFL field in the first place?" All had notoriously bad attitudes and maturity issues on top of it.
