Weight loss has more to do with diet, than exercise. I started a low-carb lifestyle the summer of 2020. The pandemic was making me feel sorry for myself and all I was doing was eating. I started at 215 lbs and have lost 65 lbs and have kept it off. I will be 60 years old in December. If I can do it, I think anybody can.

@@kara5958 I used an app to keep track of my macros when I first started out on my weight loss journey called “Carb Manager”. I purchased the premium version when I first started because I wasn’t always sure what I was doing and I wanted to be very accountable for all my intake. To this day I care more about the number of carbs and calories that I consume, than the amount of fat grams. I consider myself low-carb instead of ketogenic, because I don’t eat 70 to 75 grams of fat daily. That much fat, is just too many calories!

I agree 100% Christine. I had a similar experience with low-carb. At 64 I lost nearly 60 lbs 4 years ago and have kept 50 off over the last 3 years. Unheard of for me.! Exercise does very little for weight loss, but does everything for balance, muscle building and energy, which is very important for those of us over 50.

I have learned as a 62 yr old wife, nana and working real estate agent to give myself GRACE. Give yourself GRACE Bobbie and don't worry so much about your weight. Also, I only weigh myself once a month, I have learned since menopause, my weight goes up and down weekly. FYI, I don't watch you for your weight lost, I just love your beautiful smile and happy attitude and the way you share real life events and feelings.

This is coming from someone that has spent their entire adult life battling these demons. I was 187 and now 149. The ONLY thing that finally worked was convincing myself that I was worth it . No matter how hard or how long, I was worth it. I’m a different person. I’m happy and finally everyone around me is. No stinking diet that cost a fortune, just start making one little change a week and it will become second nature. You can do this✌️❤️

I've been a Weight Watcher for decades with lots of past success. Over the last 10 years due to hypothyroidism and menopause, it's been a terrible struggle. I would work so hard counting points, exercising, etc. just to lose 7 pounds in 9 months. I also plateaued for much of that time. Restricting calories was no longer working for me.
Last May I came across intermittent fasting. I never thought I could do it due to blood sugar issues. What convinced me to give it try is that I didn't have a calorie problem but a hormonal problem. I was constantly spiking my insulin (fat storing) causing hunger and not tapping in to my fat stores. I decided to give a 16 hour fast with a 8 hour eating window everyday for one month. Since May I have lost another 12 pounds with a steady 1.25 pound average weight loss. As a bonus, I haven't felt this good in years. It took time to get use to it but this is by far the easiest way to lose weight and maintain for the rest of my life. I also no longer worry or obsess about food. I'm free!
If nothing else, please check out the podcast here on RUclips, "The 5-Minute NP Podcast: Ep. 25: Gin Stephens, Intermittent Fasting, Author of Fast. Feast. Repeat."
    God bless you!

Dear Bobbie, this is why I never diet, I know I am much older, but I don't restrict myself. Remember my dietician friend from years ago - don't cut anything out, just cut it in half. You are such a good kid! Love Cindy xx

You are human. The weight after menopause is sooo frustrating. I’m 77 ( when did that happen ??). I retired at 68 and moved to help my daughter with her girls-- knowing my husband had Alzheimer’s. It was through all that I packed on the lbs. it’s good you’re tackling the weight now because it only gets harder. Keepgoimg☺️👍👍👍👍

I am 75 years old. What finally worked for me was keeping my blood sugar under 140. I don’t follow any restrictions. I just eat what enables me to control my blood sugar. I am less hungry than I have ever been in my life. I am not taking any medications like Metformin. My answer was educating myself about what was going haywire in my body. I designed my own program and it has worked like magic! I only wish I knew what was going on in my body when I was in my twenties. It would have saved me 50 years of grief, struggling and wondering what was wrong with me. I have seen so many friends struggle with their weight and blame themselves for being weak. Most doctors will not tell people that they are insulin resistant. They wait until people are full blown diabetic to say anything. My mother had severe neuropathy in her legs and feet for several years before her doctor told her she had diabetes. I just wanted to share what helped me in case it might help you too.

I’ll be 70 next week and in 2019, I had a Epiphany and realized I needed to take my health and make it a priority…I went from 195(size 16/18) to 130(size8) I cut out all white foods and started walking at least 4 miles a day…I’ve gained 6lbs and started back to being very cognizant about what goes in my mouth…it’s all a journey and as long as we are moving forward…I call that a win!

I’m a wellness coach. Also post menopausal. The struggle is REAL. I have been on every diet under the sun and they work…until they don’t. I recently read a book called, “Breaking Free from Emotional Eating” by Geneen Roth and it’s really opening my eyes to how I use food for SO many things…other than satisfying hunger. I do know I am 56 years old and tired of tracking my calories, macros, steps, etc etc. Surely it doesn’t have to be so hard for us 💗✌🏼😌

When you say “I had a bad week and I do what I want to do” it’s literally your body responding to restriction. What breaks my heart is seeing you blame yourself, I can see the disappointment you have towards yourself when it’a not something you’re doing wrong at all. It’s your body trying to keep you alive.

Thank you for being so real! When you hit menopause, your estrogen goes down and your cortisol goes up-hence belly fat. Intermittent fasting for women during this time is not good as it drives up your cortisol!! Also, we need carbs for hormone balance. I think carb cycling will work for you, and I would suggest trying a few days of low carb, then a few of higher carbs, more than the 40-50 you mentioned. One more thing; don’t overdue your cardio, it also raises cortisol which causes weight gain!🥰

At age 68, I'm older than you and know that life can be overwhelming as we age. Over the course of the last 20 years, my husband and I have experienced the loss of many family members and friends. As Boomers we take a lot of heat and mostly we are hardest on ourselves. Please don't be so hard on yourself. I pray every day to be able to worry less and fend off anxiety by "casting my cares." It ain't easy but I'm finally getting the hang of it.
Regarding the weight, my husband has been forty pounds too heavy for years. Last summer he underwent radiation treatment for prostate cancer which was successful. He lost 15 lbs. and we saw it as a jump start. Unfortunately, family issues took over and he put it back on and more. His doctor cracked down and he's been on Keto for 2 months and he's done well. I'm cooking Keto but it's tough. He really misses fruit more than anything. He also knows that heart disease runs in his family and I want him around for a long time and he wants to be around as well.
I'm trying to see all this as the new season in our lives. I'm praying for you Bobbi. God bless you and prayers for your friend as well; and of course your family.

Hi Bobby, Firstly I love watching you, you're so natural and real. Your frustration with different diets could have easily been me talking. I'm around your age (55) and out the other side of the menopause. I can honestly say I have been dieting up and down for the last 27 years. Since my youngest boy was a couple of months old. I have four grown up children. I've had lots of success with most of them, lose a stone put it back on, lose three stone put two back on and on and on.
I hit rock bottom last year and realised I just couldn't continue waking up every day thinking about food and going to bed every night doing the same. I had a long chat with husband, my biggest supporter and I decided to give up dieting, once and for all. No new plans, I was done. I immersed myself in the body positive community and did lots of work learning to accept myself just as I am. I started to trust my body to tell me what it needed and when.
The biggest thing I can say is it was a massive relief. I did overeat initially all that so called bad food but you know once I truly realised no more diets, forever, and the food was always there if I wanted it, I soon began to crave other things, oranges, salmon, chicken, salad. My weight went up and then it came down. I seemed to have settled at a comfortable weight for me. Would I like to be 20 lbs less, yes, but I'm comfortable at this weight and I stopped weighing altogether. I haven't eaten the world and I have so much more time in my life and space in my head. When it comes to exercise I also hate exercising just for the sake of it, to burn calories.
My favourite exercise is gardening and I'm outside most days but it's because I want to, not because I have to.
You light up when you talk about cycling and that's obviously what you love.I hope my story can help you just a little bit, but I wish you every success for the future.
My thoughts and prayers are with your friend, I pray for a speedy recovery for her xx

Bobbi, I started WW the same time as you did. Between the weighing ups and downs, I have lost 4 lbs. 4 lbs!!! Menopause really doesn’t help. I am 58 and there are some days I feel like I am 65. I exercise five days a week and just bought myself a tricycle. I don’t sit and relax all day. I clean my house, I walk my dog, now I started bike riding. I have a major portion control problem. I also have problem with someone telling me how much and what to eat. I did WW years ago and lost 75 lbs. It seemed easier then, I think, because it was new. I don’t know. I need to do some soul searching also. I will go on because what else can I do. I will get heavier if I quit. I’m going to see and pray for inspiration. Good luck to you.

I used to do 3:1. So for 3 days I ate lower carbs and then I’d a have what I called a FUN DAY and I’d eat whatever I felt like then back on the next day for the next 3 and so on. I did lose weight and I was working out on an elliptical each day. I agree menopause is horrid. My body has changed so much in the past year that I don’t recognize myself. It doesn’t help that I have an autoimmune disease which killed my thyroid gland. So I’m double hit as far as metabolism. I’m anxious and hopefully that you will have success. I’m rooting for you!

If you find it doesn't work for you, that doesn't mean you "failed"...it means that one wasn't right for you...you will find your way, don't be so hard on yourself...not everyone trying to lose weight finds an easy route, but you will find yours..trust that no one out here is judging you. Keto has always been my go-to since Atkins days. I also have trouble staying on it, heck - I'm Italian, I love pasta and bread, but whenever I am on Keto my arthritis goes away. Well- it did when I was in my 20s, now it just gets much better. My thinking is much clearer. And I just feel all-around better. But then I see someone eating bread or pasta, and my thoughts get in a gutter and I order pizza, and then get chocolate ice cream. Yep, I get it girlfriend.

I read once that your current weight is someone's goal weight!
If i Weighed 228 pounds, I would have been able to get knee replacement surgery back when it would have changed my life.
Now my knees are in a bent position and I cannot straighten my legs. I'm in a mobility scooter a 100% of the time and dealing with being disabled for the first time in my life. .
Still struggling with losing weight even though knee replacement will not give back the range of motion I've lost. Not being so heavy will help me get around easier. I'm 63 and can't walk losing weight is an up hill battle.

Well, I for one, think you are amazing! You rode 27 miles! That is awesome. It sounds like you are on the right path. I am in the same boat. I am 51 and going through menopause. I have more belly fat than ever before (I was someone who only gained in my legs and butt). I easily need to lose about 40 pounds. I’ve tried it all like you-WW, keto, south beach, etc-those used to work. Now I am struggling. I have recently started HIIT workouts which are shorter and recommended for menopausal women. So far I have seen definition in my legs but my tummy hasn’t budged. I need to watch what I eat and that is what is hardest for me. You inspire me! P.S: I think there’s a reason WW has been around so long. It works if you work it. I just have a hard time sticking with it lately.

Bless your heart - it’s a mind set. It really is. I like seeing the scale at 125 too much to go ham very often. But I do on occasion and figure tomorrow is another day. Clear out the pantry of sugary salty and crunchy things. Just until you have a handle on your weight then reintroduce them back into your life. Once you start to see the favorable results - food won’t have that hold over you. You’ll be pumped with looser fitting clothes. I often tell my husband that eating and sleeping are a waste of time. Also staying out of the kitchen is key to loosing poundage.

Oh, Bobbie, I can relate! I’m sorry you’ve been having such a hard time lately. I had a Roux-n-y (gastric bypass)when I was 48, which was 12 years ago. I lost 100, gained back all but 27. I quit trying for 12 years. Then I hit 60 & decided to try again because I have very bad arthritis & need double knee replacements. I have been watching my carbs since June, am getting medical help & I have lost over 30 pounds. I can’t be more accurate than that since disabilities cause me to be very unsteady on the scale & the numbers keep changing! Anyway, I was told to stay under 100 grams of carbs but find I can’t lose weight unless I stay under 70. That is very doable. Hang in there, I’ll be praying for both you & your friend.

Or makes you feel uncomfortable. Menopause is a beast🥶😈. It's no joke. . You're glowing not glistening🤗 I give you credit for what you've shared so far. Thank you😊

I agree with several others here....it's the food, not the exercise. I lost 40 lbs by ONLY cutting out sugar! My 1st step was to switch from sweet to unsweetened tea. Then NO sweet snacks or desserts. Finally, no biscuits (I'm from the South, so this was huge!) l ate eggs, all the veggies and meats (including mac n cheese) not prepared any special way and did NOT exercise. I'm 63, also post menopausal. Counting points, calories and macros was beyond me...I'm of the K.I.S.S. camp (Keep It Simple, Stupid). 😊 I agree everyone has to find what works for them! Praying for your friend! Best wishes on your weight loss journey! ❤️

💯. I’ve even had trainers tell me that exercise is NOT an effective weight loss tool. It’s good for mental health and toning, etc but 90% of weight loss occurs in the kitchen and 10% in the gym. For that reason I think you’re going to have to try to make cooking your thing. We only have so much time to dedicate to weight loss, and focusing on your eating is a much more productive and beneficial use of that time. Also assess your hunger after your big rides; does it make you hungrier?

Age related weight gain is a reality. I read The Whole Body Reset and upped my intake of protein throughout the day…made a big difference in losing and maintaining my weight. Had to count calories when losing since protein rich foods are also higher in calories. But I now feel like I have control over my weight and my health.

Like you, I’ve had success with WW in the past. I regained all the weight I had lost plus an additional 20 pounds during the pandemic. I started up with WW again a few months ago. Things were going well but now I’ve pretty much stopped losing weight. I’m down 15 pounds, but the scale has not really budged for 3 weeks. It’s frustrating. My husband is trying to encourage me, but my inner rebel is feeling like you’ve been. Weight loss after menopause is a struggle, to say the least.

Weight loss sucks. But it’s 90% what you’re eating. Be kind to your body and don’t over exercise. It’s easier when your partner joins you so you can rid the house of bad foods. Eating/snacking at night has held us back. ❤❤ You can do this!!

First of all, you look beautiful, you ARE beautiful. This journey you are on is so very hard. I lost 50+ pounds in my mid-50's, and the only way I could keep it off was tracking every single thing I ate and all my exercise. I did really well, kept it all off for four years, then the pandemic came along and in the space of a year I gained back 10 pounds (yes, I stopped tracking -- and lost awareness of how I was letting my appetites overcome my judgement). Those 10 pounds make me feel like a failure, and it has been an ongoing battle trying to get rid of them again. I have not given up, but I just want you to know that you are brave to share this story with the world, and that you should celebrate every single win you have, no matter how small. Even a tiny improvement leaves you in better health than you were before. So celebrate your tiny successes, and forgive yourself for the times when you are not perfect. None of us are!

I had to go low carb, then turn the dial down to super-duper low carb. Clean eating & calorie restriction always worked before but not now! Menopause got me. Going whole food, low carb-no grains, sugar actually cracked the code & stopped my constant hunger. High fat, moderate -high protein

Don’t know if you are still in your weight, lose journey but I’m in the same boat. What I found out was I have a reaction to white starches and am allergic to all white starches. That means no potatoes, bread, French fries etc. to me those were my standards of food. So to me what I did was go to whole wheat wraps with turkey, lettuce, cucumber slices for lunch and IF I eat potatoes I will literally have 1-2 tablespoons or 4-5 fries. That satisfies my love of white starches. What it did was make me lose weight and for the first few days I lived in the bathroom peeing my brains out. And yes,I’m hypothyroid and am post menopausal.
I wish you luck and TAKE CARE OF YOU!

I did keto in fall of 2016. Suck w it for a year & lost 60 lbs. I missed certain veggies & fruit so I transitioned to low carb for a couple of years. I was able to maintain the weight lost but didn’t drop anymore weight. About a year ago I stumbled across a Faster Way weight loss coach’s Instagram page and heard about carb cycling & IF being the base of their program.
Since then I’ve been doing my own version of 2 days low carb (50 or below) and then 2 carb up days (100-120) and just keep rotating the days along with IF of 16/8. I plan meals & outings around my days so no guilt or feeling left out. Due to a gluten sensitivity I don’t eat anything w flour and have chosen to to eat sugar. Eating this way helped the scale to move down again. I started wearing a size 22 and now wear a 12/14. Am I at the weight my doctor says I should be, no but I’m happy & heathy and perfectly content where I’ve landed. I feel better, have much more energy, all the aches/pain are gone. There’s no right or wrong way for everyone. We are each made up a little different and must find what works for us. At the end of the day YOU must be happy & content.

Bobbie. Just an fyi when I was doing spin class 4 times a week it always made me much hungrier the whole day. Maybe just a couple of days a week and definitely free weights. I also started intermittent fasting. And the “whole 30” diet. The diet is super simple. I’m 61 years old and was finally able to get back to my ideal weight. This is what worked for me. I wish you luck on your journey. It’s not easy.

It’s such a struggle, especially after menopause! I’ve gain weight in places I’ve never had it. I feel uncomfortable and unattractive which isn’t a good mindset. I had lost 40 pounds between 2020 and 2021. From Christmas to now I’ve regained it all back so I can relate. I so all the same self sabotaging behaviors. Like you, my back on the wagon and trying to ease into low carb and working on my thoughts. You’re honesty, openness and authenticity are so inspiring. 🙏🤗

Hi Bobby, my husband and I decided to change the way we eat. We cut out a lot of carbs, refined sugar, potatoes and starchy food. Both of us have lost. I lost 30 lbs and once in awhile we have a cheat meal. I know it is hard but our A1C has come down to a safer level. You find out what type of lifestyle suits you and go for it. I don’t use the word diet but lifestyle. I know you can do it❤️

From one Bobbie to another…I hear ya. At 70, thru menopause, but I can honestly say weight , at least in my head, has been an issue all my life. Finally, I can say while I have my dads “full back legs”, they continue to support me in good style. While my stomach isn’t as flat as I would like, it probably never will be, etc., etc. But, I am really healthy, had both knees replaced ( fabulous outcome), I have the love of my life for over 50 years, wonderful children & grandchildren. So on balance, 5 pounds up or down seems quite unimportant. What has worked for me is intermittent fasting & I walk 5/6 days a week. The walking is good for my weight, but mostly I consider it my natural therapy. In my kitchen I have a sign…”Being cremated is my last hope for a smokin’ hot body”. I’ll take my imperfect but perfect for me body over that for decades to come. Love your channel, be kind to yourself❤😊

Chris Powell has a book on carb cycling. I just looked it up and it must have been a long time ago because it showed the book on ebay and other places. I never did that diet I don’t think. I did many other including weight watchers, keto. four years ago I started Whole Food Plant Based, no oil. I lost my weight and am very happy with it. I will never try another way of eating again.i do not miss meat and eat tons on potatoes, rice, beans, fruits. I LOVE Carbs and am always satisfied.
I know you said you did not want anyone to tell you what to do. I just wanted to tell you a little of my story. And I wish you success on this adventure you are starting.

I love pork rinds dipped into my homemade ranch dressing. Yum! If carbcycling appeals to you then check into THM, Trim Healthy Mama. It’s actually based on Somersizing, where you follow food combining. You can have carbs with no fat or you can have protein with fat, the idea is to allow 3 hours between meals to allow your body to switch between fat burning or carb burning. You can have oatmeal and fruit for breakfast then have chicken and salad with full fat dressing for lunch. It’s all over you tube if you decide to research, with no membership fees. My first go around with WW the weekly dues were $2, back when it actually worked for me before they changed up the plan yearly. Good luck! My thoughts and prayers for your friend.
