My Grandma used to say if we over ate, "you feed your eyes and not your belly". Years later, when I lived in Nairobi, I had a dietician friend and she would say " don't cut anything out, just cut everything in half" Same thing really! You are doing good, and you make sense to me. Love Cindy 😊😊

I’m 73 now and have found in the last few years that my need for food volume has significantly declined. It’s not easy to shift gears when the body lets us know that you just don’t need or really want serving sizes that used to be very no4mal and typical. What you’re moving to makes sense. Good for you!

It’s interesting to see your journey. When I stopped WW, I tried low-carb (not sustainable), then intermittent fasting, which has worked amazingly well for me. These days I just have my morning coffee then water until dinner, so I fast about 20 hours a day, with maybe a small snack (yogurt, hard boiled egg, or apple) before dinner. Food tastes so good, and I find it easy to control my hunger during the day. Congratulations on remaking your relationship with food.

For anyone interested: I've gotten better to load up on veggies, while keeping it simple for me. Every weekend I prep raw and/or cooked veggies, some are staple every week and some will be seasonal and always have soup readily available. For lunch I have the choice of what I call the 4 S's - Soup or Salad or Snack plate or Sandwich. It allows me to have variety and ensure I'm eating what I enjoy - that's the key too.

Omgosh! Laughing so hard at your voices at the end - love love love that!
And you know how much I love this change in thought process for you. Eating by some plan or diet or whatever does not (usually) allow for that mindful eating aspect. It's the "I'm going to eat this regardless how I feel because I'm allowed!" I've had that conversation with many women over the years.
You are getting it and I'm thrilled to see this shift in thought process on a weekly basis in our calls. Keep it up! xo

Maybe you could stock up on frozen veggies to microwave to add to lunch. A teaspoon of real butter and a sprinkle of low sodium chicken bouillon or Mrs. Dash is tasty, full of nutrients and fiber. Another nutritious “filler” is quinoa. Cook up a couple cups all at once, can scoop out 1/2 cup portions to add to any chili/soup for some protein, added to veggies it’s honestly a satisfying smaller meal, have cold over a simple salad with a little vinaigrette, even warm in place of oatmeal with cinnamon and stevia plus fruit and nuts. Also, cubed zucchini can be added to virtually any dish, it tastes like whatever you mix it into. Can even be substituted for pasta in soups and casseroles. Keep at it! This is all new to you and takes time to figure out what works. Focus on healing your relationship with food. It is energy. You get to pick the form of energy that is makes YOUR engine run well and tastes good to YOU. It isn’t a reward, a counselor or a friend. It can make us ill if not used wisely, but it isn’t your enemy either. Best wishes for making peace with your body’s fuel.

My go to vegetable at lunch is cucumber slices. These don't require a salad dressing. I love salad but I hate fat free and low-fat salad dressing. My favorite snack is plain potato chips. During my dieting phases I would restrict and not eat these then end up binging on them. So I stopped dieting and restricting foods that I like and ate the potato chips. I do put these in a small bowl-I don't eat directly out of the bag. The first week I started doing this I ate chips every day. The second week it was a couple of times that week. The third week it took me two weeks to finish the bag-not family sized, normal bag. I don't even have chips in the house currently, not even interesting in eating them. But if I do want these, I am confident that I can eat these like a "normal" person.

A trick I do with reheated vegetables is to cut them up into bite size pieces and heat them in a "broth" made of a little water, maybe a 1/2 tsp of real butter, salt, and pepper. If I am home and can reheat them on the stove top, not microwave, they are actually quite good. I know the butter adds some fat but a little butter goes a long way. I got the idea when I go to buffet or catering events, they always have the veges staying warm in a broth and they usually taste pretty good. I rotate steamed veges, salads, and cut up raw veges for lunch. Sometime my salads are only lettuce. Basic but it's something. Also, I like to chop up my lettuce fine so I can eat it with a spoon. I hate all the chewing at lunch when, like you, I just want some quick nourishment and move on with my life. Love your channel and your honesty.

Don’t be so hard on yourself this is a lifetime adjustment and you are trying so hard and that makes it harder . Portion , at home you know measure and as far as restaurants, ask for a box when you order and put half of it away in the beginning :) you got this

Getting the veggies in can be hard due to repetition. Costco has single serving packs of both guacamole and hummus. If there are cut up fresh veggies in the fridge (think outside the box, not just carrots and celery), easy to grab, plus it helps us get used to “normal” portions, be satisfied but not binge. Also, plain Greek yogurt blended with Ranch dressing mix or Mrs. Dash seasoning is a delicious dip. I know.... “chemicals” in the ranch mix, but let’s be realistic here. If you feel snack deprived, you will eventually binge. And it won’t be on veggies and dip either! This is the much healthier choice.

I prep 7 salads for the week. I eat a huge salad of lunch every day but you could make a big salad for the week. I out things in it that won’t make the lettuce wet-bell peppers, mini tomatoes, cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, etc. then at the time you serve it, you can add cucumber or whatever. I always eat the salad first then any cooked foods. Just a suggestion that you . can try a variation.

Sounds like you are on the right track now. If one is eating healthy (mainly) yet still not losing weight, then one is simply eating more calories than needed. Years of ignoring when your brain told you that you are full has dulled that message and it takes time to retrain yourself. It will be surprising how little food we actually need compared to what we used to eat once you retrain yourself. The types of food one eats and the exercise one gets are entirely for the health of our bodies-bones, muscles, heart, etc. Overeating, even healthy food, causes weight gain, not the occasional cookie or Cheeto. But that occasional cookie/Cheeto will trigger the brain craving for more so be prepared to fight those cravings. That does not mean you can never have them-just realize what is coming. And that fight also will get easier the less you feed the brain with the crave triggering foods. You are learning-good for you!

Hi Bobbie, I was put on tablets that I was told would make me gain weight. I became very conscious of what I was eating. I weighed food, denied myself food and ate diet foods that were low fat or had sweeteners. I put on a lot of weight and constantly thought about my next meal. I came off the tablets for a while and when I went back on them I made a decision not to weigh myself or consciously diet. I have put on a few pounds this time, as opposed to the stones I put on last time. I try to eat whole foods and have sugar rather than sweeteners. I’m astounded in the difference that not dieting has made. Good luck with your journey. Ps. Tomatoes are my go to lunch vegetable, or I have fruit for pudding, and eat my pudding first 😀

I like salads but so time consuming to make them. 🤷‍♀️ I have the time, but just need to think about doing it ahead, because I wait until I’m too hungry, and want to eat NOW. 😂 I’ve been making the turkey bacon too, and cook it in a little Avacado oil to get crisp. I make it for breakfast, or lunch, with eggs, and low carb wrap. I never get tired of it.

The only Greek yogurt I like is Costco's Greek yogurt. Its the only one that doesn't have a slimy texture to me. Throw in a handful of fruit, like strawberries or raspberries, and top with between 1/8 and 1/4 of a granola you like. For lunch veggies, I buy frozen veggies from Costco. Their stir fry mix is great. Throw a frozen handful into a microwave safe bowl, add a tablespoon of water, cover and microwave for 3 minutes or so. I like it with low sodium soy sauce and serve it with some chicken nuggets or some other protein.

I feel like your different way of thinking now is going to serve you well on this journey! You said you don’t want to speak ill of WW-but don’t forget, their plan is a product to purchase. They teach a point system that keeps the customer in their WW universe (for fees) but does not teach about healthy portion size or actual nutrition. And as you realized, it’s not really sustainable in the long term. I think what you’re doing now is great! Also, you look beautiful-I wish I had your skin!

Yes, WW is a business and that is never to be forgotten. I do think they teach nutrition and if someone is going to be on a commercial diet, I'd encourage WW. I’ve heard it will become more like Freestyle/Blue plan. I just can’t do points, but I do find it helpful to have limits. I do a “rough” calorie count of what I expect to eat for the day in the morning based on my tastes and what’s available. One thing that has really helped me is to slightly reduce the amount of food I take like half a sandwich, little size bowl of chili….Eat that much, then wait a bit and go back for more if I’m not filled up. Also, regarding family members with snacks, etc. I’m with you. Nothing should be off limits to them because of me. I just usually ask myself if that’s what I really want, if so I measure the serving out, track the calories and go on down the road. But I try to have something lower calorie that would be better for me and serve my weight loss purpose better that I can substitute. ( low cal hot chocolate, apple with a bit of peanut butter?) it’s not giving the Cheetos up so much as stopping and making a conscious decision and giving yourself a limit instead of eating half a bag of them and not even remembering eating them. It allllll takes time and practice, at least for me it does😂
