I don’t usually comment but I am with you. For some people it isn’t as easy. You can do all the right things and your body can say no. It’s genetics and hormones. Don’t blame yourself. The diet techniques I have relied on in my younger days no longer work for me and I also struggle trying to find what will work. Don’t let anyone say you are doing it wrong because you are not. That’s how I found you. I felt crazy and was glad to see I wasn’t alone.

I am always amazed to see how fast people can gobble down food. It is like they are just trying to get it over with. But isn't eating suppose to be an experience we enjoy? If it is then why in the world rush through it! Especially if it is very tasty, make it last... Savor it!

I need to tell you something too, in my humble opinion, you are making this so much harder than it needs to be, and yes I know what its like to be overweight. Work with Neily and focus on the good that she is teaching you. Did you seriously ask, "can I eat Fruit Loops all day long"???? Food is not your enemy, its just way way too important to you. And here is the part that will probably make you block me but I would rather have that happen than to not say this, and that is your family needs to help and support you. I know your husband does and I love that exercises with you, but your adult children should eat what you eat, or go out and get what they want. Your daughter is precious but baking pumpkin bread with chocolate chips in your kitchen while you are trying to loose weight, that is not very thoughtful. And eating one small slice of that will probably make your want more because those kinds of carbs kick start that craving that makes you want more and more. Don't eat those kinds of carbs while to are trying to loose weight and until you are in a better place with food. I'm sorry to be so blunt and I truly don't mean to offend you. I love your skin care and make up videos. Please don't block me.

She may block me too and I pray she doesn’t. I agree with you. I love you Bobbie and I know you are putting yourself out there for all of us to watch and probably none of our business to comment but here I go…. I think you are way too focused on food. When you are going to eat next and what you are going to eat. Just eat healthy foods when hungry and don’t eat when not hungry. Stop when slightly full. I think you put alot of energy and thought into eating and food. And I agree I would stay away from sugar and carbs for now. That will only trigger more carb cravings. Eat as many veggies as you want. They are healthy and low calorie and full of fiber. Eat protein. Eat some fruit but stay away from those bad things. I don’t care what diet you are on certain things are just poison to your body (bread, rice, pasta, white flour, sugar) and should be avoided or eaten in moderation. I mean did you really need the honey on the toast? You are very addicted to sugar. I know it must be hard. Why aren’t you eating eggs for breakfast with toast. Avocados? Why not eat a healthy sandwich for lunch. Lunch meat and lettuce and olives etc. Pickles. Veggies. Salad with tuna or salmon or chicken. Rotisserie chicken. Dinners can be anything. Chicken, pork chop, tacos on lettuce, steak, stew with veggies. Why should there even be pasta or dessert. Have a frozen fruit popsicle. The more you eat of protein and veggies the less you will crave sugar. Drink a hot tea at night in place of a piece of cake. Some cheese. You have so many options. And I also agree family needs to stop making desserts and food that could be hard for you to resist More support is needed. 😊
Sorry. Just my two cents. From another Theresa.
Love you and sorry if this comes across harsh. Its not meant to. It’s hard for all of us. We are all learning as we go.
The Theresa’s must feel the need to speak.

I agree with both of you and my name isn’t even Theresa, lol. One thing I have to add is I’ve never lost weight eating rice and pasta. I feel like she is just chasing her tail round and round without addressing that refined carbs and sugars are addictive. I’ve been there myself and once I eliminated them by eating anti inflammatory they don’t tempt me. I’m focusing more on eating healthy and nutritious foods. There’s no good nutrition in bread, pasta or rice, but a rainbow of nutrition in colorful all natural whole unprocessed foods.

Thrills me to see you doing this. I used to watch your old Weight Watchers videos, and while I never officially did weight watchers, I used to have my own modified version of it that I followed and successfully lost weight however, like you, just put it right back on as soon as I stopped. I did this off and on for about 15 years and finally when I turned 49 I decided enough was enough and it was time to change my entire way of thinking about food and moving my body. I started lifting weights a couple days a week and walking more. Nothing was off-limits, and I started just listening to my brain and my body and trusting it. There were a few bumps along the road and a few pounds gained and then lost And then gained and then lost but now I am settled at a really comfortable body weight and I am in the best physical shape of my life AND I’m no longer a prisoner to food! Eating is a relaxed and joyful experience now. I am now 52. This is something that will stick because I took the time to develop healthy lasting habits along the way, instead of just restricting myself to a set of rules. I found the easiest way to do this was to focus on one habit for a month and at the end of the month if it felt effortless then I would move on and add a second habit, and if it didn’t feel effortless, I would continue to focus on it for an additional month until it did feel effortless. Habits such as eating one salad per day, building half of my plate with fruit or vegetables first (then adding the other Whole Foods to the other half) taking my B12 each day, adding fermented foods daily, etc.. when you focus on one habit at a time until it’s effortless, it takes time to really develop a fully healthy lifestyle, but you can’t get there if you don’t start… good luck on your journey.

I have an idea Bobbie - I think you have dieted for so long and focused on what you CAN’T have, now you can change your thought pattern to now I CAN have anything I want. Like she said, nothing is a NO, just be careful of how much you say YES to the treats. That’s what I am trying to do myself, I also got so tired of counting points and obsessing on every bite I put in my mouth. I hope this helps you ! I know we can do this !

  • @carrie402
    @carrie402 2 года назад +2

I can completely understand your mental burnout on tracking every bite. It's so laborious. I used to track everything on My Fitness Pal but I just dreaded (and resented!) the whole process pretty quickly. I now eat mostly eggs, beef, salmon, chicken, bacon, and a small amount of greens such as romaine and celery. I also eat dairy sparingly - half and half in my coffee, and some cottage cheese and regular cheese once in a while. I feel very satisfied and don't have the sugar/carb crashes I used to have. I hope that you will enjoy this new journey and I wish you the best!

I love this new approach. I did the "watching every bite I put in my mouth and counting every calorie" method also. Eating and food consumed my thoughts. Which for me had the opposite effect of how I wanted to live. I hated it! When you said you were going to start a plan again, I thought I just can't do it again. Your words about mindful eating instead of focusing on calorie counting made sense to me. I am going to look up the Mediterranean approach and see how it goes. If you find a meal you love let us know! Sharing your struggles is very meaningful to many of us. Thank you so much for sharing your experiences.

Hi Bobbie, Up until about three years ago I was always focussing on my weight, food, fad diets etc. and trying to get to a certain weight. Like you hit the menopause and even though I would starve myself and be pretty miserable and very hungry the weight would not shift. I wasn't massively overweight but being short any weight gain showed even it was just a few pounds. As soon as I put a food category on the banned list I would crave it and think of nothing else resulting in a binge followed by guilt. I decided life was too short and I stopped "dieting". I follow a guy called Joe Wicks (not sure if you have head of him). This changed by relationship with food. I can't say that I have lost a huge amount of weight but I have come to accept that I will never be the weight I was in my twenties. I now eat a good healthy balanced diet with very little "junk" or processed food and over the past three years I don't really miss or think about cake, biscuits, crisps, etc. I do still have them but only very occasionally and very rarely have deserts. My one vice is I do like a drink or two at the weekend. The other thing that has helped is I changed my exercise routine to include more weight training and less aerobic activity. This has reduced my body fat and increased my muscle. Please give yourself time as it has taken me three years to have a "normal" relationship with food and now love nourishing my body. All the best xx

No one can deny you are persistent!! Way to go! When I think of the Mediterranean diet (diet meaning food consumption) I think of a plate full of vegetables roasted or stir fried with olive oil and garlic, a protein and carb - variety to keep it interesting but simple. Weight loss diets make us obsessed thinking and planning our food, it's exhausting for sure. Here is all you need to think about, the Japanese Confucius saying 'Hari hachi bu" - which means eat until you are 80% full. Walk away with the thought that if you are still hungry in 20 minutes you will have something more - more often than not, given that 20 minutes, your brain will figure out that you are full. Wishing you the very best!

I haven't been able to pick it up again because I don't know why. But you inspire me. The only two rules I had was, only eat clean food and that was at my discretion. Mine would probably be different than yours because of my body type probably, and don't snack. Those are the only two. I had baked goods and all sorts of goodies. But they had to be very clean. I got to where I was dropping about 10 lb a week. And I didn't gain it back until covid when we couldn't go outside. You do inspire me

However, your nutritionist is right about eating when hungry and stopping when full. I feel this will really change things for you and bring success sooner then later. I hope you get to the place where you aren’t thinking of food, I’m not a good cook and I get overwhelmed with recipes that require different spices I don’t have on hand. That would be hard for me. I use my fitness pal app and yes it is a lot of work. However because of my condition I see a nutritionist every few months. I had to give up certain foods for my health. I don't track on weekends and sometimes skip an entire week. Bobby I can honestly say the nutritionist has been wonderful you want some support especially if you aren't sure of bout what you are able to eat that can get overwhelming and depressing. My nutritionist doesn't ask me my weight or put me on a scale. I have learned soooo much bout my body and food. I highly recommend seeing a nutritionist. ITS GREAT SUPPORT. I am going to bring up something that I haven't seen or heard anyone talk about. We concentrate on what goes in our bodies but do we ever think about what comes out of our bodies. I was once told by a doctor that a person can hold up to 20 pounds of waste. Do we give thought to how regular we are? If our body is holding onto waste and not regularly getting rid of it, that can hold up our process. We need to look at the whole journey of our food and not just what goes in. I have lost over 60 pounds and it wasn't until I gave this some thought that I was able to not only lose weight but feel much better.

I honestly have to say that I never feel completely full. I usually eat my first meal of the day around 1pm. Then dinner around 6 and maybe a snack after. I was not losing weight, but if I’m honest I was not moving enough or drinking enough water. About the time you announced you were going to try Med, I told my friend I was done with WW and will go back to anti-inflammatory. I will be walking daily and will really try to up my water. I say slow and steady wins the race. You do you! But I think all the diets tend to focus on the good & bad, we get the wrong association with food. I was very successful a few years ago by just eating half of everything I would normally. Nothing was off limits. It was very freeing.

Friend, I LOVE the Mediterranean foods. There is no processed foods. When I go grocery shopping I stick to the outer perimeter and choosing the lean meats no ted meat for me but fish, center cut pork, , chicken , and turkey. I don’t do any white pasta but I do eat lentil, brown rice, whole wheat and garbanzo pasta. The ingredients have to be 1 but no more than 5 I love to eat something sweet every day so I have whole wheat toast with honey and almond butter or 3 dates with a handful of walnuts. I had lots of time on my hands that all it did was give my mind time to think of a snack. So I started a veggie in ground garden and a
Greenhouse garden for the coming winter. I started working out legs in the morning and if I ran out of things to do and I start thinking food I turn on the jams and I work out my arms or my buns then I shower and if I still want a snack I’ll eat a fruit. Bobbi remember lol fruit loops are not natural and Mediterranean eating is fresh . The way I see it is the food needs to be as close to what God made as possible. I like your channel and I love your honesty sister. We GOT THIS!!! P.s. your family benefits from eating fresh as well. Good luck we are with you!!!

You are very brave to put yourself out there in front of us. I think that you are putting that internal dialog, that we all have (dialog that can be about anything), into words spoken. I have been classified as obese (when we lived in Italy) and malnourished at the same time! I since have lost weight, in part to health issues and in part by listening to my body for signs of hunger. I have also been underweight and malnourished. I went from a size 16, on my 5'2" small frame body, to a zero. I tried unsuccessfully to gain 10 lbs for each of my children's wedding. I understand the relationship of being a slave to food. My husband is doing keto, his first time ever needing to loose weight. He understands, finally, the mindset of the power that food holds on a person. I hope that this new approach helps you identify how you can best navigate the healthiest way of eating for you and your family. I also need to say that for me I think there is merit to some of the comments about support from your family. Support looks different to everyone, everyone needs support. Maybe an honest family "sit down" where you can explain to them how they can support you. Don't give up! I can't do the bike rides or walks. I am so happy that you commit to that and can share the time with your hubby. This is your channel. Follow your heart on its content. Don't let public opinion sway your thought and creativity. Hi Bobbie, I’ve been on this journey with you. However, I’m diabetic and recently diagnosed with NASH from doing Keto for 3 years. Regardless, I’ve found that these meal ideas have helped. Chicken fajitas with grilled chicken breast and sautéed peppers and onions on a low carb wrap. I also make fish taco’s with the cod and add some fresh salsa and a little mashed avocado. I also eat a lot of grilled chicken salad with a balsamic vinaigrette and add a veggie soup if I’m extra hungry. Pasta fagioli is also a go to lunch or dinner with a side salad. These are just a few that have helped me. Hope sharing these give you some ideas! You’ve got this. ❤

Team spread it until covered !!! Natural peanut butter is the best ♥ once I switched I can't eat PB with icing sugar ingredients, just find it so gross. Now I love celery and PB in the morning (not everyday or course), not for everyone but so delicious for me 🙂 I believe baby steps help modify our taste buds too. I think I'm lucky as I love to cook so I'm thrilled with a Mediterranean way of eating as there are numerous countries, spices, herbs to change things up for me.
I've come to realize food is my friend not my enemy and my motto is picking foods that I enjoy and no longer omit a food group. It's no longer a diet, or tracking it's a way of life and I it ♥ I still menu plan and make sure I have a variety of food groups. Neily is 100% correct on what goes on the plate 1/2 is veggies, 1/4 is protein, 1/4 carb focus on real food, that's it.
Bobbie you got this, no more tracking, eat whole foods, continue with the outdoor activity or indoor but live you life to the fullest. 🎉✨🎊🥇

Yay! This program sounds so much like the No BS Weight Loss Plan I commented about previously, without the med diet portion. I too have a hard time trying to determine if I'm full and should stop eating. What the no BS Weight Loss Plan suggests is trying to leave behind 2 bites of food on your plate. Some people even scoop those 2 bites and put them and save in a freezer bag so they can see how much food they didn't eat during the week. That part grosses me out 😂 so I'm not doing that but I am trying to leave those 2 bites behind, at least until I can figure out if I've had enough.

Hi Danielle - I've loved working with Bobbie and helping her with this shift.
Diet culture is so pervasive and damaging. Changing our ways is a huge - but life-changing - shift for many people.
And the "diet" in the Mediterranean diet is really a misnomer - it's more of an eating style/eating plan/way of eating. Bobbie is pursuing a plant-based approach and figuring out what works best. There is NO one perfect way to find good health.

Hi! I am so happy for you! No, seriously, I am so happy for you. For the last 2 years I have been struggling. Parents, family, pandemic - I am in my 50s so this the season. Well, 6 months ago my a1c soared to an 8.1 and my liver numbers were extremely high. I asked my doc about keto, ww, and IF and she said no. She told me I needed to heal my relationship with food. Quit the diet this and sugar free that - eat real whole foods and look into Mediterranean. Well, I did live in Italy for 4 years and I know the life style so sure. It has been challenging, but in 3 months my a1c went from 8.1 down to 6.2. My liver numbers are perfect. The biggest thing I got from it is that I feel better. It wasn't just about eating Mediterranean, but about changing my lifestyle so I could have a life. Yes, I have lost weight, but feeling this good and my lab numbers means more to me than the number on the scale. I am sorry this is so long, but I wish someone would have told me about this when I was younger. I love your channel and I hope you have a blessed day! 🌻

Speaking of the amount of meat you eat, if you’ll remember, meat (unless it was chicken or fish) was high in “point” and was supposed to be eaten in smaller portions. Just eat whole foods and not processed. You can do this Bobbie. I get from these videos that food is a stressor for you (as it is with millions of us). I eat because it’s there. I’m not hungry most of the times I eat. You are so correct by saying it’s in our head. When we can get our heads wrapped around changing our lives (eating habits) for the better it becomes easier. Not effortless, but easier. I worked with a man who always told us that eating was a habit. He was right.

Just my two cents….. it seems important for you to eat with your family. Would it be possible for you to meal prep for yourself and just eat your meal with your family? I moved in with my sister when the pandemic started and I regained all the weight I lost because I cooked for the family. I just started WW a few weeks ago and came to the conclusion that I have to meal prep my own meals. I had a conversation with my sister about not cooking for everyone on a daily basis. Putting myself first does not come easy but I had to….. I also find it helpful to keep it simple, I stick to meals that are easy and I tend to repeat them throughout the week.

Yes, chicken Parmesan is fine to eat on a diet! You just have to eat the proper portion! This took me forever to figure out…. I would look up what a “ proper “ portion of a dish or meal would be and eat that. Then I would tell myself, “Okay, this is what I should be able to eat for this meal and now I have to go away, maybe make a cup of tea or something now” ( I spend A LOT of time talking to myself😂). I found that even if I really wanted more at first, if I waited those few minutes i would forget about it. About your daughter’s baking…my solution was to make something really yummy that I could sub for that snack and keep these things around all the time… ( or just eat a small amount of her’s but usually I like my treat because it would be more satisfying). If you want some good recipes, nothing off the table, she doesn’t use” fake foods” look at Sweet Savory and Steph’s website. She has tons of good thing that aren’t hard to make, your family will like them too and calories are reasonable. I will add that THIS TAKES TIME to find dishes that you and your family love, keep you filled up and you look forward to cooking. Also, I concentrate on protein first. It keeps me full.

Italians don't eat whole wheat pasta. Pasta isn't bad it's what you put on it that matters. Go get yourself an authentic southern Italian cookbook and a Greek cookbook( if you are drawn to those foods). You will find plenty of recipes you will like and many aren't complicated.
