I tried that location on my race car and I had to move it. Although that space provides a lot of air for cooling, you are now feeding your radiator with whatever oil temperature is exiting the oil cooler. Most of the time oil temp is hotter than coolant, so you are introducing heat to the radiator instead of ambient air from the outside. Move it to the side of the radiator and shorten the oil lines.
Yeah the water to oil cooler is located on the front of the block. When people run an external cooler the easy way to go is with a sandwich plate which attaches to the bottom of the OEM cooler and the oil filter screws into it.
@@BarnClubCars took the car out today and snapped the stud holding the ball on the selector shaft somehow. pulled in to find gear oil on the garage floor after having a friend fix a cupseal. pretty bummed.
Bad times mate. I know the feeling, I went to back a car off a ramp and the ramp flicked up and smashed the fuel cooler off the bottom of the car 🤦🏼♂️ Guess that’s this weekend’s job
The stainless mandrel bent exhaust looks great. Who makes the muffler? I didn't see any thing on it. More importantly, what engine is in your car with that 3" exhaust??? The only real engine that would benefit from anything larger than a 2.5" would be a 1.8T or something less popular to swap that has forced induction- 2.0TSI, VR6T, FSI Turbo, etc... I'm guessing it's a 1.8T swap??? If it isn't F.I. you'll actually lose a little whp/ bhp and trq. The 2.5" is the biggest you'll go with a normally aspirated VW engine that will fit in the mk2 bay. You'll lose a good amount of backpressure which you want unless your boosted. If you're boosted full 3" should be mandatory if you're trying to make any gains. Theres a reason why tuners like Techtonics, Autotech, Eurosport Acc, NGP, etc. all sell they're exhausts in those specific diameters because all those companies have dyno proven what works best. Needless to say, it's a really nice looking system, with smooth mandrel bends which is also crucial. The resonator is in the perfect spot as well to eliminate the drone. I have to remember that I am in the states and you would have a different selection of parts over there across the pond.
It’s a Trackslag exhaust. They’re really well made 👍🏻 Yes a 3” exhaust is overkill for the current engine, it’s a 1.8 single point injection. But that’s not staying in there for much longer.
@@BarnClubCars You could buy a couple A/N fittings to make it fit nicely. A grinder with a cutoff wheel makes the cut very clean and quick. You need to tape the braided section before you cut it to prevent fraying of the stainless braid. I think it would be worth asking the sponsor for a kit with the fittings uninstalled on one end of the hose. I would be more interested in buying one if they offered that option. I love your channel BTW. Hello from Los Angeles California!

I would prefer this oil cooler to the leaky "heat exchanger" behind the exhaust manifold on the Astra.
Does this oil cooler adapter plate have a thermostat in it?
Wow that is shocking 🤣 loosen off the AN fittings and cut the pipes down to the right length.
brake off oem plastics? OEM cooler and cooling hoses should be better and cheaper!
Does this front oil cooler mod require also a higher flow oil pump? (Having a longer route of the oil now after the install)
No it’s all good.
I wonder if you can take the AN fittings back off and shorten the pipes?
I’m thinking it might be worth a go 👍🏻
I do prefer the silver Jetta with no decals but clean lines :)
Good job done 🙂👍
Learned a lot! Did all GTIs come with a similar oil cooler from the factory?
Gti’s have a water cooled oil cooler. There’s water pipes that go to where the oil filter is fitted

ahhh good stuff. I need to get some content up.
I was just thinking I hadn’t seen anything from you in a while. Hope you’re ok 👍🏻

I might have a piper 272 just sat there looking at me 🤷🏼♂️

It would bee nice if they offered the kit with unterminated cooler lines so you can cut them to length.
Those super long lines will not work for me.
I know what you mean, that would be great if you could cut to size.
