    Nice job, one of the worst things removing the soundproofing gunk, looks better in the rear arches than when we took the trim off our green mk2, keep up the good work guys. D

      @@FaskaRestoration Dry ice pellets will freeze the sound deadening after a few minutes, few blows with a mallet completely shatter it off the metal leaving a virtually clean surface. Only works for horizontal surfaces

    Great video! Removing undercoating and soundproofing is brutal! Reminds me when I was restoring my Mk1 Jetta GLi coupe. Your car is remarkably rest free and in great shape for a 30+ year old car! VW knew how to undercoat cars that's for sure!
    Here in Western Canada where it's below freezing and snows half the year, we salt the roads to melt the ice for traction. All four of my fenders lips needed new metal, as well as the body flange for the fuel filler neck, floorboard under the driver side pedals, and the inner-fender behind the right front wheel, which incidentally blew water up into the interior and shorted out the ECU! Fun times with the hammer and dolly to fix it all!
    I'm really looking forward to seeing this project mature to completion! BTW - what motor did this Mk2 come with? 16v or was it still the 1.8v? I'd love to stick a VR6 or a 1.8T in the Mk1, but the old 1.8 CIS is still going strong and not burning oil after 200K. Time will tell! Cheers mate!

    • @RotboxMetalworks
      @RotboxMetalworks  4 года назад +1

      Thanks so much for the comment! Well to be honest this car has been off the road for the last 16 years so that might have something to do with why it doesn't look too bad. VW certainly did know how to undercoat cars!
      Massive respect to you and everyone restoring cars in Canada, must be an absolute nightmare!
      This one came with the 8v which I prefer to a 16v anyway as less to go wrong- even if it's not as quick! Haven't got any plans for a big engine overhaul at the moment, we're just trying to tackle the rot, tidy it up and get it back on the road as a nice little daily for a few years.
      Cheers!
