Love bangernomics. I bought my 2008 Astra SXi at auction 3 years ago for £675. I've put 35,000 miles on it (now on 122k) and done all repair work and servicing myself. Nothing serious has gone wrong with it and it has never let me down yet. Looking at car adverts, it's probably still worth more than i paid for it!!

Bought a 2008 Citroen Grand Picasso back in October 2009 for 1350 Euro. Drove it gor 4 years, only time it let me down was when the alternator failed. Very practical, good driving position etc. Cheap driving.

I'd think that the drive interface has to be turned to match the notches in the end of the camshaft to be able to put the pump in place properly...

The burn with topdon is the annual subscription. Apart from that, it's a good piece of kit

Why not remove seats to clean?! Quicker and easier to do seats and interior

Had a 2008 titanium x a few years ago with 250k miles and it was very reliable. Got a 2011 one now with 125k with fsh and it’s great with no problems either.

I've had 2 Mondeos. Both were great cars and reliable. Just had to replace my Astra - was going to buy a 2014 Focus Zetec TDi, nice car but dodgy garage that messed me around so in the end went to a bigger dealer and got a lovely Peugeot 308 1.2 petrol. Mint condition 2017 just before the tax changes so £20 a year road tax. Was double the cost of the Focus but hopefully worth it.

Looking at the MOT history I don’t think your brother did everything that needed doing on it.

Various companies I've worked for specify a personal car can't be over 3 years old, so you've lucked out there.

I ran the same 2.0 Litre diesel Mondeo for ten years. I only let it go because the clutch failed at 190,000 and I didn't want to spend more than the car was worth getting it repaired. I still miss it. It was one of the best cars I've ever owned and super reliable. You made a good choice.

Cars like this are brilliant, useable comfortable load lugger with a great spec and decent performance for little money and unlike a lease car you don’t have to worry about monthly payments or mileage and can park it anywhere and not care if it gets scratched!

We had a similar wreck a bit worse and ours jumped timing almost 3 teeth on the belt, retimed it and seems to be ok. Still wrong design tho somehow

I sold my previous Seat Leon Cupra 1.8T because of gearbox issues. Loved that car though. So then found my current Ford Mondeo Mk4 2.2 tdci titanium X estate in Silver. Quick, powerful, handles damn good, and is very practical. Just doesn’t have the cooled seats. But all the TX option’s on it. And it also runs the same Goodyears tyres. Just a tad tatty on the bodywork. But I love it 💯

All in with bangernomics 😊 we still need people to buy new cars in order to have great used cars deals

My 2.0 mazda petrol owned for 10 years now, buying a diesel old mondeo is risky (turbo, egr, dmf, injectors) but i like teh space.

Am I the only one feeling sorry for the Freelander if thats what's going to happen to the interior. 😢

Just spent £5000 on a Aygo with 40k on the clock plan to keep it till it blows the engine or it rots away. But if it last 10 years thats only £500 a year. A little more than the usual £500 i spend but should prove more reliable and the fuel efficiency is outstanding

I don't have access to a company car scheme, and don't need it either. I'm quite happy driving my Mk3 Mondeo ST220 to work and back. Not doing many miles a year, probably about 6k, if that. The satnav is a really common issue. Water ingress on the shark fin means no satnav. On my Smax you have to remove headlining to replace it and its expensive. You can buy a generic aerial and just run it up the a pillar and hide it behind the a piller covers.

Get the titanium x sport front to rear bumper and twin exhaust cheap enough

I used to own 59reg mk4 Mondeo Titanium X Sport till 2013, One of the Best cars I had for 3.5 years. Last of the good ford's till I went over t the Germans 😊

I did this myself 3 years ago, spend £1k on a petrol late model Vectra C SRI (2008) - been an absolute mule of a car, just keeps going, routinely does 1,000 miles a month, sometimes a week in business mileage, up to 170k now - 1.8vvt pretty simple solid engine, no worries with that unit rather than the diesels, easy does 50mpg on a steady cruise.

Cheap cars are the best cars! I recently sold a 2018 car(Profited from the huge price increase in newish secondhand cars) and bought a 2007 Nissan Primera 1.8L with only 131.000Km (81.300 miles) fully equipped with leather seats,auto-aircon, color reversing camera, cruise, rain sensors, heated seats.... from an old lady (1 owner) for 1000€. its now on 143.000Km with no issues. Can´t beat cheap cars and good deals. A new car is NOT an investment, its a waste of money.

Use a mondeo 2.0tdci as a daily work car on a 13 plate, great car for carrying everything and and good on fuel and cheap parts.

If your fuel economy isn't good on the Sportage you're driving it wrong. And you said at the start you were going to get something interesting, then got one of, by your own admission, blandest cars ever.

Have had my Peugeot 407, X line 2.0 hdi since 2006, way ahead of it's time spec still looks the part 130,000 miles on, am sure the Ford will go well for you on a £300.00 a month budget , good luck

I bought a 2009 i10 for £300 four years ago with 69k it's now got 134k still worth more than what I paid for it probably spent £500 on it inc tyres brakes change the oil every 5k and did cam belt at 74k so will probably change it again at 140k returns 48-50 MPG £35 to tax never had MOT failure or advisories makes brilliant little van through the week and surprisingly spacious car for its size on a weekend so I'm probably close to 12k in what I've saved happy days.

Dash camera, front and rear would be high on my desirable list.
