The day didn't quite run to plan good job you had a knowledgeable friend and a lift had you paid for that little lot your budget might have got badly hurt, good fleet car the mondeo and you bought from a relative so knew its history so worth persevering with as its s nice spec, prefer something a bit simpler myself I bought a 205 diesel and keep it as a spare car for when one of my sons wants to borrow mine it's simple and very non digital which I like though bills mount up when you need to pay a pro to do something. Still everyone has to make a living.

I was hoping to see more of the front end removal as i have to change my air conditioning condenser on my Mondeo

Good video because it illustrates why cars become "economically nonviable" . At this end of the market nobody wants to give a give a garage mechanic £100/hour blank cheque to sort everything that's wrong with it. However there's a great opportunity for cheap motoring if you can save a car form being scrapped and then take on the work yourself and you have a friend with a ramp like Sam 😀

Ever since Eurocarparts got taken over by that big US corporation, the discounts have disappeared, and the prices rocketed. I now buy hardly anything from Eurocarparts.

Not being critical, but if you had to pay a garage, that budget would be in minus. All cars are bargains until they meet big bills at a garage

How about giving it a good old valet.

People are too quick to get rid of cars today. With some basic preventative maintenance and regular cleaning there is nothing wrong with a 20 year old car. I’m close to 50 now, done well financially through my life but never paid more than 3k for a car - I quite like having the nicest oldest car

Inspiring video! Thanks How much have you saved in labour if this has been done garage? PS Road trip thoughts: A great road trip is down through Europe, through the Balkans to Greece. To return can take the ferry Greece to Italy and go back that way. Have done one time, amazing but is a long way. Or a loop visiting the micro states of Lichtenstein, San Marino and Monaco, also nice, can do in a week. In the UK can do the Scottish north coast, but it’s become very/too popular and you don’t have the weather and great food of southern Europe.

Is there any proof of cambelt as that engine in Freelander (if you’ve got 2.2 tdci 173) got revised from 10 years to 7.

Rear engine mount out+dpf out and you can easily can take it out through the back , done it twice already

It looks to be the 2.2 hdi Peugeot/ford engine shared with the Citroen c5, pug 407, mondo… regular oil and filter changes and it will out live you…

Spray some Lanoguard over those springs, it will protect them, stop the rusting and the MOT man will be happy next year.

An oil and filter change is not an annual service. Find the service checklist and work through it!

Done well getting the car so cheap but bangernomics at its best, there's no way I would be paying 300 a month to rent a car or even on hp. I have bought and run cheap cars for the last 20 years, it can be done.

£30 for an Mot? Bloody hell, that's cheap! Nice series, I've always run second hand cars. If in their death they've cost me less then £20 a week in purchase repayments, reckon I've come out on top. That oil off ebay was cheap as well, but I'm a bit wary of buying oil from there. Was a big scam from Eastern Europe going on with oil few years back, cheap oil rebadged iirc. Subscribed 👍

Can't run carplay/android auto and have unit using phones wifi hot-spot at the same time....only way you can have data runnung when using carolay is putting a sim card un the unit. Personally I prefer Eonon over Xtrons

In my house, we also lease a 23 plate car for £300 PM. And I have the 08 plate Ford Mondeo mk4 2.2 tdci. Best of both worlds in my opinion. One new warrantied Kia, and one much older diesel estate. I prefer the Mondeo 👍

Loved my old mk4 mondeo 2.0 tdci.. Had to change to a ulez compliant 2016 mk5 2.0 tdci 4 years ago. Bought at 100k, Cars currently on 182k miles.....its had a radiator and thermostat housing at 175k, and a clutch master cylinder at 126k, gets serviced every 7-8k miles, and has needed nothing else apart from tyres and one set of brake discs and pads

I've got the same a 2011 Mk4 Mondeo and the only fault I have is knocking at the rear when going low speeds. I've changed the rear springs, drop links, shock absorber, top mounts, trailing arm bushes, anti rollbar bushes and cross link arms. Any ideas?

Love my 2011 Mondeo 2.0l diesel. 157k miles and 10 years of ownership. Done all repairs and servicing myself with the exception of the timing belt and more recently the rear trailing arm bushes. Best car ive ever had. Big, comfortable, reliable and 50mpg. What more could anyone need?

How about tax and insurance??

I've just done some numbers on my 14 year old Volvo. I've spent £5300 on servicing, MOTs, repairs, wheel refurbs, tyres, battery, etc. I'm trying to keep it looking like new. That's about £380 a year. Of course there is fuel, road tax and insurance on top, but you'd pay that on any car. I know plenty of people who pay more than £380 A MONTH on a PCP to drive a car they don't even own. For a low mileage driver like me it makes financial sense to drive a reliable older car.

Honestly I really like that car imo it looks great really enjoyed the video looking forward to seeing how things work out with this car , I'm pretty sure it's a winner
